How Christians can be easily fooled by conspiracy theories

INTRODUCTION

“The Coronavirus is not just making people sick, it’s also making people stupid”

That was the opening line from the Malaysian comedian Ronny Chieng, starting his episode about the Coronavirus pandemic and its effects on our everyday life.

And even if the sentence sounds harsh and judgemental, I have unfortunately to say, that he is right.

With the threat of the pandemics and the quarantine measures limiting our movements, most people live at home and a in a constant psychosis, sharing all possible conspiracy theories on the social media.

And unfortunately, Christians are not immune to conspiracy theories, actually gullibility is very much present in some denominations.

CHRISTIANITY AND GULLIBILITY

But did I say that we Christian are easily gullible? Off course no, but I need to say that most of them are, especially in these days.

This happens because most of them, especially Fundamentalists evangelicals, read the Bible in a sort of “extreme way”, without understanding and throwing away all the things they learned.

And this goes back to my last year blog where I wrote about the Abecedarians and the Chick Tracts and their common thread of blind faith.

One big example is the misuse of the Book Of Revelation in two different wrong ways:

1. CORONAVIRUS: PUNISHMENT FROM GOD ?

This is the first mistake. In some denominations ( or better to say, SECTS ), there’s this idea that the pandemic was sent by God as a punishment against abortion, homosexuality and so on, this also based about the stories on the old testament.

Well I am not a theology expert, but according also to the evangelist Tom Loud if the coronavirus was from God, He surely would be a vengeful bombardier without mercy, a completely different version of Him.

Then comes also three big questions:

If the coronavirus was from God so what about  Black Plague,  Spanish Fever, SARS or Ebola?

If it’s a punishment against abortion, homosexuality and so on, why didn’t He spare also conservative nations like f.e. Poland, Hungary, Brazil or the “Nation Under God” USA?

What about all the closed churches for the quarantine ? Is it God’s will too?

So before saying that Corona is God’s punishment, try to answer these questions.

2.CORONAVIRUS: END TIMES SIGN

This is also the second mistake, similar to the first but also more dangerous.

As I wrote two years ago in my post about the psycho cults  there’s a sort of infuriating emphasis on the end times prophecies, and this emphasis sometimes lead to deviated and distorted reality thoughts , just like conspiracy theories ( like NWO, Mark of the Beast and so on.. ) or, in the worst of the cases, delusions of persecution like this.

The pandemic has highlighted a lot these “end times” stuff, and a lot of opportunists and deranged gurus have taken advantage of their feeble-minded followers. Same situation that happened in the ’80s and ’90s with the Satanic Panic, where con-artist like Bob Larson or Rebecca Brown were hailed as heroes.

USA: BETWEEN THREAT AND QUACKERY

But let’s go to USA, the “Nation Under God”, but especially under president Trump, who not only cut the funds to the WHO, but is going also to fire Anthony Fauci, the virologist who’s making a great job in the fight against the CoViD.

And this is just the peak of Trump’s series of mistakes against the virus, while USA is right now the country with the highest number of contagions and deaths by coronavirus.

And it’s really sad to see how still many evangelicals still say that he’s always right. But after all evangelical christianity in USA has become a circus, where there are “prophets and clowns”

Exactly, PROPHETS AND CLOWNS, like our song says. And some clear examples are:

Shawn Bolz, a self-proclaimed prophets who said in a gathering that “God showed him the end of the virus”, and it was the beginning of March, now we are on 16th of April and the situation is going from bad to worse.

Kenneth Copeland, the prosperity preacher, who tried to stop the virus with a prayer that looked more like a charade.

Rodney Howard-Browne, the head of River Church and well known conspiracy theorist, who got a warrant for violating the quarantine measures. It’s such funny how his followers blabber about “persecution” when he almost put a lot of people at risk hosting a gathering, if we think what happened in France last month.

Jim Bakker, the controversial televangelist who claims silver solution as remedy against coronavirus

QAnon, the conspiracy psycho-sect, who promoted MMS, the pseudo-medicine containing bleach

Last but not least, this guy in sackcloth, wandering and preaching around the empty quarantined American metropolises

FINLAND: THE PETRI PAAVOLA CASE

Unfortunately also Finland is not immune neither from coronavirus, nor from conspiracy theorist.

And unfortunately, as I wrote before, Christians are not immune. The most obvious example is Petri Paavola, the anti-catholic liar upon whom I wrote almost two years ago.

At the end of March mister Paavola hold a service for few people because of the quarantine measures, and all the service was a complete concentration of persecution complexes and conspiracy craps.

He said, during his “service”, that coronavirus was created by Bill Gates to create new mass vaccination’s program, I really don’t know if laughing or vomiting in half of such idiocy, buy anyway here’s the parody.

Is Paavola completely deranged or is he just a liar ? Well it could be both of them, but what it’s worse is that he claims to have received a “revelation from God” about all that quackery. And obviously gullible followers believe him easily, like for example the author of this comment

For the non-Finnish speakers the translation is:

Yes, because in the middle of this conspiracy psychosis, the 5G is nowadays one of the most popular theme and someone, like the crackhead who commented, believes even that 5G causes coronavirus.

It could sound funny but unfortunately is not, as in England, just weeks ago, some cell towers were set on fire because of this psychosis.

A LIGHT INTO THE DARKNESS

Thank God that into this marasma of darkness there’s always the light.

One example is this great article from ChristianityToday, written by Ed Stetzer, and I absolutely like to quote the first part of this article.

A major crisis provides a fertile field for producing conspiracy theories, and the current global pandemic has created a bumper crop of them.

One of the sad things that I’ve learned over time is how Christians are disproportionately fooled by conspiracy theories. I’ve also said before that when Christians spread lies, they need to repent of those lies. Sharing fake news makes us look foolish and harms our witness.

We saw this in the last election when some of the troll factories focused on conservative, evangelical Christians. This is disappointing. Now we are seeing it again. So how do we respond?

First, we need to speak up and speak out to others— particularly those fooled yet again— and lovingly say, “You need to go to trusted sources.” Your social media news feed is not a trusted source.

But you can find them if you are willing to look. That’s why we created coronavirusandthechurch.com, to provide credible information for churches. But, there are plenty of credible news sources— generally from outlets that do not have a track record of conspiracy peddling.

Second, God has not called us to be easily fooled. Gullibility is not a Christian virtue, and we ought not to act like that. Believing and sharing Covid-19 conspiracies does not honor the Lord.

Yet now, it appears we are dealing with a new flood of conspiracy theories. Take a look at the list on Wikipedia, or just search for yourself using a few keywords.

No one is born “hyper-intelligent” but someone needs to speak out.

I am just sooo done with everyone on tumblr/reddit/all social media trying to make Dany look like the mad queen. She is not just some token princess turned evil ruler. 

Let’s make this unpopular opinion nice and loud: 

The Tarlys deserved to die

It may have been a mistake, or maybe even cruel if they were just scared, poor soldiers, with no titles doing their job fighting a war they didn’t want to be a part of. What everyone seems to forget is that the Tarlys were SWORN BANNERMEN to Lady Olenna and by that, sworn to Daenerys. Do you know what this means? TREASON. 

If anyone tries to argue this by saying that killing prisoners of war is bad you can go away right now- this is GOT not the 21st Century. The characters must be judged by the standards of that world, not ours.

Randyll was a cruel, racist (would be Brexit/Trump loving) w****r and would never change his mind and Dickon had 0% interest in being pardoned. Also, let’s not act like he was some sort of golden boy- he never helped Sam or even stood up for him in the past. If any male ruler would’ve done what Daenerys did they would be deemed strong and just. Because Dany is a woman and her father was the mad king she is suddenly crazy, unfit to rule and in general biggest bitch ever. Also, most rulers do not have a dragon at their disposal as a killing weapon.

All the above considered, Sam is well within his rights to be upset (also, SUPERB acting there!) and break the news to Jon in a way that paints Dany as the devil. Also, in case anyone doubts it, Dany would give up the crown for her people. She already did by going North instead of storming King’s Landing. She also listens to her advisers even if this seems to be her downfall 99% of the time. The only time she didn’t follow counsel was when she flew North to save Jon and company and I think we can all forgive her for that?

What I do hope, despite all the hate and angsty prophecies, is that this destined couple, the couple for whom the whole series was written for (Song of Ice and Fire anyone?), the soul mates, the ‘he loved her and she loved him’ perfect lovers will not be split up after just two episodes of being together. They will probably have to go through some drama to work things out but if this splits them up then the entire idea of Jon and Dany was a fake to start with.

And I refuse to believe that.

I also call bullshit on people saying Daenerys was rude with her ‘Whatever they want’ response to Sansa’s question on what do dragons eat. I mean come on you people, this is the truth. Bit sassy, but still the truth. Dragons eat goats but as we all know, they’ll happily eat humans and there’s no stopping them. Sansa would be much more clever not to waste time on sarky questions and instead come up with solutions because THAT is what true leaders do.

It may not sound like it, but I actually really like Sansa and thought that her character became really interesting in seasons 6/7. This episode was a major disappointment for me. Why is she turning into Cersei? The comments she makes, the faces she makes, she’s like a younger double of that evil woman and that really creeps me out. Sansa’s obsession with titles is also super reminiscent of Cersei and I’m starting to think that all she wants is to become queen herself with how she does nothing to defend Jon in front of the lords. 10/10 for being a good sis.

I also have to say that the last thing I imagined Arya to do is look blindly past all the racist crap the Northerners are saying -including Sansa- and not see the bigger picture here. Like yes, Jon is STILL your family and he really could do with some support to save all yer asses. The lone wolf dies but the pack survives- the issue is in how narrow the definition of the pack has become. I have real concerns over the xenophobic attitudes in the North and think it’s a bit of a commentary on what’s happening in the Western world atm... (maybe I’m just reading too much into this). 

Maybe the Night King should sit on the throne... seems like he’s the one breaking down walls. Jk, jk.

REVELATION: 2021

Imagine, if you will, millions in a democratic country, who gladly make (and addictively want to) their private thoughts known via social media and are quite happy to tell random pollsters on the street their feelings on any subject of which they are asked. And plenty on which they are not. So pleased to be asked their righteous opinion, so ego led deluded that anybody might ‘like’ their words that they will spout the hatred their hearts feel on issues of the day and in their lives without a care where such information goes. They want to be heard and so, they are. Now imagine a computer driven listening and watching station with instructions from media masters, political leaders, and advertising companies paying close attention to the data gathered. Not actual facts as such but almost all emotion led opinions, collated to show the group mindset of a subsection of a country.

An algorithm can be created for what products would most likely appeal to that mass. Guns, (for random example), waterproof bibles, clothing for survivalists. You have direct knowledge of this already when You tube, your email, Alexa etc ‘suggest’ something you might/should like, based on what you have ordered, written, or spoken online. This year I have been getting dozens of spam emails for bad eyesight, Viagra type stuff and hair loss. HA. My age must be written somewhere. Not much stress on imagination to see how simple it is for organisations like the ex Cambridge Anal lytica etc to capture and utilise such info via Facebook. Or how enemies of a country could understand in no short order what makes a country really tick below the surface and how to manipulate those emotionally crippled, poorly educated AND those who seek power over others. Psychographic profiling...stop giggling at the back there...

Cui bono (who benefits) from seeding disorder? Follow the money, ‘it’s only business’. An algorithm which reveals just what people believe and who can then be exploited en masse as useful idiots to disrupt the usual inbred spastic normality of daily life in a human country. And it is dirt cheap because people WANT to reveal themselves and a rival country need only a minimum outlay of actual infiltrating agent provocateurs (many of whom will be actual natives.) A set up involving ‘sock puppets’ which serves the same purpose as APs...the legendary bots and fake identities rattling off tweets and false flag Facebook pages, rallying the disaffected faithful. ‘More evidence that the targeting works and predicts our behaviour’.

Now, once the group targets have been identified, seek out those among them who long for their moment of fame, their years of special importance and time of power. They will have already made clear their characters in online posts. Weakling Alpha types cowering their insecurities behind a loud voice. They hunger for followers, to be ‘liked’, (a basic larval human need for most) and admired for their rightness. Show them support, aid their voices to spread, mysterious donors for the message; Anybody not similar to you MUST be the opposite...and therefore, the enemy. Step by step, the daily hormone rush reprogrammes and the opinions become a self fulfilling prophecy, imprinting over all sense of reason. So now you have your moronic masses (and those dumb enough to want to lead them) most of whom are too stupid (or busy surviving) to realise they are being manipulated from afar by those who understand what is within and do not have their countries’ interests at heart. Bombarded with attack ads and propaganda... ‘Until they saw the world the way we want them to’...

Some of the leaders, big or small, will actually know they are puppets but will think it acceptable as long as they are given a little pat on the head via position and power. And a lot of money. Most, (whether mass or leader of such infiltrated countries) will be certain they are doing what they do in the name of Freedom and Democracy, while all the time, being used to further limit the same. Hilariously, bleakly, deathly ironic. From hubris to nemesis.

Yes, I am writing about Brexit and Trumpists and Q Onan. Et al, etc. Ad infinitum. Almost. Those in democratic countries who are ceaselessly working unbeknown to themselves against most of what they demand the most. ‘To take back control’. No children, you are creating a system where you will have less and less of this. ‘Follow the white rabbit’? Good morning to billionaire Mr Robert Mercer...a ‘Christian’ Conservative, gun lover, climate change denier, donor of over 100 million dollars to right wing candidates, 15 million of which went into Cambridge Analytica/Brexit and more to Breitbart and Trumps 2016 campaign. On the face of it, both he and his second daughter Rebekah would seem to have their fingers hard on many triggers of chaos, all of which serve only the rich and Russia. The ever lovely Good Catholic William Rees Mogg called UNICEF’s feeding of poor English children during a pandemic at Christmas a ‘publicity stunt’. Hmm...well in 2019 the charity received 6.4 billion in contributions of which the Tory government of the UK donated 494 million. Perhaps UNICEF wanted to make a point that the UK has the largest number of food banks in the democratic world (over 2000, Germany has 900) and that it was a little beyond shameful that this was necessary. Still making money from selling birth control/termination pills in Indonesia after having said all contraception even in cases of rape was wrong Billy? The English gentleman also said he found the rise in food bank usage as being ‘rather uplifting’. Verrry Christian man. And that rotting British fish are ‘happier’ now out of Europe. A joke? The 2019 EU clampdown on tax avoidance will be avoided by him thanks to Brexit. Heavenly off shore interests, Glory! ‘How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God’. Met a Christian guy again who tried to tell me a parable of sorts. A little bird was flying and suddenly fell into a field dead, a cow walked over and took a dump on the little bird and the heat of the manure brought the bird back to life. Adam Curtis - Hyper normalisation

I think the most successful element of its documentary is its pacing and flow between topic to topic. The basic premise being that in society there is an inevitable cycle of those in power lying to us and us as a society simply ignoring it. “we become so much a part of the system that we are unable to see beyond it. The full definition of hyper normalisation was  provided in Alexei Yurchak's 2006 book Everything was Forever:

‘everyone knew the system was failing, but as no one could imagine any alternative to the status quo, politicians and citizens were resigned to maintaining a pretence of a functioning society.[6] Over time, this delusion became a self-fulfilling prophecy and the "fakeness" was accepted by everyone as real, an effect that Yurchak termed "hypernormalisation" ‘

I think the very nature of basing a whole documentary about terminology and looking at different cases that show this instead of say a documentary about “trump” or “brexit” or “facebook” is so much more potent. The ability to seemlessly link the social engineering behind islamic suicide bombing to facebook’s echo chamber algorithms to Trump’s rise to power not only is jaw dropping but also beautifully poetic. It’s a fantastic way to cover a huge range of material in a genuinely linked way.

For this reason I intend to shift my focus of my work.

I from now on intend to yes, focus on perception and how we perceive the world but with the angle of exploring the nature of “doubt” and scepticism towards commonly accepted truths such as:

I think it’s really tricky in philosophy (unless one already has an interest) to create genuinely engaging work to a demographic of “regular people” (not negative or looking down whatsoever)  due to the abstract disconnect between philosophical discussion and our every day lives. I think taking the idea of scepticism in a as Curtis explains in his documentary “Post Truth world” where the media will happily skew facts, create caricatures and shift focuses out of self interest.

With that in mind, creating work based on being sceptical of information at face value I think not only is more impactful, but more genuinely useful and engaging for any audience with a slight interest in politics and the media.

Going back to hyper normalisation, Curtis is able to create an extremely visually fluent cohesive work through “found footage” which can either directly correlate to what he is saying or hold a more subtle symbolic meaning. A screenshot provided depicts this most effectively. As Curtis discusses a disconnect between politicians and the real world he could have used a direct clip of say, trump saying an inaccurate truth, but he doesn’t. He picks a clip of David Cameron walking through a ghost-like town with noone living in it. I think this almost ironic re-purposing of film, combined with the “found footage” aesthetic really enforces the anti-establishment and somewhat “punk” themes of the documentary.

God promised to bless the world thru one of the offspring of Abraham. We also saw in my Samuel study that God made a promise to King David that one of his sons would sit on the throne ‘forever’- 2Samuel 7:13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. These promises were fulfilled thru Christ. The first promise of a coming Messiah was given to Eve in the creation account-Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. We call this the Protoevangelion – meaning the first time we see the good news [gospel]. At the time of Christ they were awaiting for a Messiah who was prophesied to come. Yet they were looking for a deliverer In the natural sense- meaning someone who would save them from the ‘occupation’ of Rome. Yet- Jesus fulfilled the promises in a different way- He told us his kingdom was not like the world’s kingdoms- John 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

God made these promises to various people thru out the history of the Old Testament. The main figures he gave these promises to did not understand all of the implications at the time. Abraham obeyed God- yet the promise of a son- Isaac- came to pass thru many trials. David had his struggles as well- yet he did Father Solomon- experienced divisions in his kingdom and family- but yet the one seed- the one child spoken about- was still to come. The first promise foretold that this coming deliverer would ‘bruise his head [satan] and he would bruise his heel’- Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Hmm? Heel? The prophecy was fulfilled at the Cross. Yes- Jesus would indeed suffer a bruise- wound- in this battle. Yet- it was thru this ‘bruising’ that he would fulfill the promise. Yes- he is the seed of Abraham- that would bless the world. He is the Son of David- that would arise to sit on the throne. And he is the woman’s Son- who would suffer an injury- And in doing so- would redeem the world- Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

Because it is an effort- by the media- and our country- to change the narrative. Meaning ‘look- we are really attacking- and killing- ISIS’. ISIS has had this city for about 2 years- many of the people in the city see ISIS as their defenders- because they are on the religious side of ISIS- in the division within Islam. The Iraqi govt. forces are not on the side of some of the citizens in Mosul- and the history is when the Iraqis take back a city- with our help- the people are treated like ISIS. So- we- the U.S. – are willing to side with the actual murder of some of the citizens in Mosul- simply because it serves our political purposes leading up to the election. It gets the story on the front lines ‘look- the Obama administration [who Hillary was secretary of state] is really doing a great job fighting ISIS’. Yet- when [if] the city falls- what will happen next? In a year or 2 [or a month after the election in the U.S.] it will either go back to ISIS- or the Iraqis will persecute the citizens [kill] who they see as siding with ISIS. Some in the city sided with them because ISIS gave them a type of government- which they did not have under the American backed Iraqi leadership. So- that’s why you are seeing this as a top story- sad indeed.

They were a people that felt like they were unstoppable. The alliances they made were their downfall. As I read the book the other night- it made me think about our present situation. Let’s see if I can hit some high points. [parts] NEWS- [Mosul- 3 Americans shot and killed yesterday in Jordan- Wiki leaks reveals real corruption] I mentioned the last few weeks about our actions in Mosul Iraq. The U.S. is backing up the overthrow of this city- for political purposes. I mentioned how the Iraqi troops we are backing are Shia [Muslim division] and some of the population of Mosul are Sunni. Should we be backing up a ‘genocide’- meaning one group [Iraqi Shia] wanting to eliminate another [Sunni]. I saw a report on PBS news- the interviewer brought up the fact that the tanks that are now rolling into Mosul are flying Shia flags. Meaning- they are not there to ‘liberate’ people- but to murder Sunni. I saw another report where the U.S. backed Iraqi troops shot bullets ‘blind’ into a hiding place. The report on U.S. news did not say if women and children were hiding in there- and if they were murdered by U.S. backed troops. The military man that was confronted with the question ‘why are U.S. backed tanks flying Shia flags’- he avoided the question- and used ‘spin’. As of now- its possible women and children have been murdered- with the backup of U.S. power. That’s wrong. 3 of our men were shot and killed in Jordan yesterday- Last year a Jordanian captain shot 2 Americans. In yesterday’s incident the Jordanians claim the U.S. men did not stop at the gate- so they killed them. Yet- there are resentments that our men are there. The U.S. says it is investigating- because we don’t want it to ‘strain relations’. Meaning- yes- it’s possible they murdered our men- but- it’s more important to not have such a bad headline right before the election- because it might make Hillary and her record on foreign policy look bad. So- maybe they simply murdered our men- but- we have more important political things. Our nation is obviously divvied on the election- and it’s shocking to actually see the corruption in our government that was exposed the last few weeks by WIKI leaks. It shows a level of collusion within politics that covers up for those who have connections. The FBI agent who tipped off the Clinton people about an investigation into the emails- broke the law when he did this. The government’s official response was ‘when he tipped Clinton off- he was using his own personal email- so that’s ok’. People have gone to prison for stuff like this- but it is showing you a level of corruption inside our government. This is not simply a ‘Trump- Clinton’ thing- it is a national corruption scandal. [parts] (1143) THE FALL- God puts man in the garden, he gives him only one restriction ‘don’t eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil’ sure enough, he does! The serpent [satan] tempts Eve in 3 areas, the tree is good for food [lust of the flesh] good to look at [eyes] and can make you wise [pride]. In 1st John 2 we see these three areas mentioned as the common categories of all other temptation. These were the same areas the devil used on Jesus in Matthew 4. The temptation to Eve essentially said ‘look at this God of yours! He wont give you the freedom to do anything you want, he is withholding such a good tree from you’ sounds like the philosopher Freud, he taught that the problem with man was Gods restrictions. That if man would cast off the limits that religion imposed upon them, then all would be well. But what man did not know was that these basic limits were for his own good. When man would choose to walk out from under Gods limits, he would suffer for it. In this chapter [Gen. 3] we also see the great prophecy of the child of the woman eventually crushing the serpents head [called the Protoevangelium- Latin] a prophecy about Christ’s future victory at the Cross. God also covers man with animal’s skins, a type of the future sacrifice of Christ on behalf of man. Man tried to cover up with leaves, God said it wont do, so he sacrificed the life of an animal and used the skins as a covering. The wages of sin is death, the price was paid. In Romans chapter 5 Paul will show us that death and sin passed upon all mankind from Adams sinful act, but thru the obedience of one man [Jesus dying on the Cross] righteousness comes to those who believe. This is the basic Christian doctrine of original sin. Some refer to this as the federal head theory of redemption. I believe it’s vital for Christians to have a grasp of this doctrine. In the 19th/20th centuries you had liberal theologians deny the doctrine of Jesus dying on behalf of man. Along with this they also denied that original sin existed. Most believers realized that this denial was heresy and avoided it, but some are playing with the idea again. The bible clearly teaches the substitutionary atonement of Jesus Christ on the behalf of man [Isaiah 53] and it is a foundational doctrine for all true believers. To some it seemed unfair to charge God with the doctrine of original sin, and along with it the doctrine of Penal substitution [Christ being punished for us] these are core Christian truths, if people want to deny them, that’s their choice. But to be a Christian in the biblical sense of the word, these truths are necessary, they are part of the foundation of all true Christian churches.

WHY TRUMP MAY YET ESCAPE THE MICHAEL COHEN FREAK SHOW

Yes, Michael Cohen is in trouble because he’s knee-deep in dirty work. No, this isn’t the end stage of the Trump presidency. Any big shot with half a brain knows the importance of plausible deniability. How many Wall Street chiefs got jailed after 2008? How much time did Chris Christie serve for Bridgegate?

One simple reason fake news had such a great run during the 2016 election—and still enjoys it—was that there’s a lot of money in telling people what they want to hear. Gullible partisans loved to read that ISIS had encouragedMuslims to vote for Hillary Clinton or that Donald Trump had once groped RuPaul. (Not that I don’t enjoy fake news myself sometimes.) No wonder, then, that variants on the Trump-is-finished genre have had such a good run over the past three years. For the second half of 2015, you could barely open Politico without finding a headline about why “D.C. Insiders” were confident Trump’s candidacy was over. After November 2016, they remained a staple, with flare-ups when National Security Adviser Michael Flynn got fired, when James Comey got fired, when Robert Mueller got hired, when Anthony Scaramucci got hired and fired, when Flynn agreed to cooperate, and on and on. (I’ve dabbled in Trump eschatology myself.) So it’s hardly surprising that we’ve seen another outbreak of the genre now that one of Trump’s lawyers, Michael Cohen, has had his premises invaded by the feds.

One of the more readable takes came from The New Yorker’s Adam Davidson, who argued—in keeping with the form—that Trump is all but finished. Cohen, wrote Davidson, “knows everything, he recorded much of it, and now prosecutors will know it, too.” As reasoning goes, Davidson is fine, provided you accept the premise. If Donald Trump has indeed been running a criminal enterprise, then it follows that a bean-spilling henchman will bring down the boss.

But the premise is the problem, and it gets to one reason why Americans are divided so bitterly these days. Partisan suspicions on both sides have hardened into lore, strengthened by the feeling that if enough people believe the same thing it must be true. For instance, in service of the idea that Trump’s business is an illusion, Davidson offered, “I am unaware of anybody who has taken a serious look at Trump’s business who doesn’t believe that there is a high likelihood of rampant criminality.” That may be true. But it’s not the sort of argument that closes a case.

Investigators of any sort—news reporters among them—rely heavily on their noses when they start their work. Often, this serves them well, but not always. If you’ve ever tried digging through public files on someone, you might have noticed that the point of departure—i.e. a suspicion—plays a weighty role in coloring your perceptions. A non-profit’s tax filings that would otherwise look boring or unremarkable instead seem to hold clues or raise flags: what do you mean by “exhibits and fixtures” on line 24b? Who are those independent contractors? Whatever is disclosed just makes you want to look at what’s behind it. And the sense of suspicion can be overwhelming if the person you’re concerned with has a tendency to cut ethical, if not legal, corners. Stuff that’s merely unseemly can send up a lot of smoke. But you may never get to any fire.

Ironically, the mindset of Trump haters sometimes looks familiar to veterans of the 1990s, when much of the right became deranged over Bill Clinton, and countless investigations ensued. So many episodes and arrangements in Clinton’s life seemed dodgy, and Clintonian dirt-digging experienced a boom, at a societal cost. Countless conservatives laid down their careers and their sanity waiting for the big payoff of Clintonian criminality, like a homeowner confident of tracing the smell in the house to one dead rat. Meanwhile, the rest of us had to read about Whitewater and Travelgate and Cattlegate and Vince-Fostergate and Haircutgate and Lord knows what else. None of it added up to much. People kept finding sleaze, but sleaze is the fool’s gold of investigators. True criminality is far rarer.

We can be certain—it’s not really disputed by anyone—that Trump has done business with sketchy people in sketchy places. Even in New York, anyone who’s had to put up large buildings has also had to reach some sort of modus vivendi with the city’s traditional stakeholders, like City Hall and organized crime. But ascend to the heights of politics and you also get cozy with a lot of sleazeballs. Barack Obama had sketchy dealings with crooked businessman Tony Rezko. George W. Bush was tight with Enron’s Ken Lay.  The Clintons had ties to—oh, let’s not get started on the Clintons. But the contention that the Trump organization is nothing but, in Davidson’s words, a “small, sad global operation,” with little of value—that’s another leap entirely.

Michael Cohen is not going to lead Robert Mueller to Russian collusion. If he were, Mueller wouldn’t have referred him over to the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York. Cohen is in trouble because he’s knee-deep in dirty work. Some of it was undoubtedly for Trump (like paying off porn actresses), but that doesn’t mean it takes Trump down. Any big shot with half a brain knows the importance of plausible deniability. How many Wall Street chiefs got jailed after 2008? How much time did Chris Christieserve for Bridgegate? How many clients of Hollywood fixer Anthony Pellicano, who helped them to make problems go away (a reporter pursuing a story on actor Steven Seagal and his possible ties to organized crime found a hole through her windshield, a dead fish, a sign saying, “Stop”) get sent to the big house? The answers, of course, are zero, zero, and zero. Michael Cohen might reflect poorly on Donald Trump, but it’s not Trump who’s likely to go to jail.

Trump has plenty of vulnerabilities, of course, and many Republicans dislike him just as much as Democrats do. He may get forced out of office over something eventually. But it’s not just red America that gets snookered by fake news. Blue America has its own narratives, and one of them is that a monstrous Trumpian scheme is going to unravel any minute now. Recall: George W. Bush escaped impeachment despite warrantless wiretapping, “enhanced interrogation,” and misrepresentations of intelligence that led to war. Ronald Reagan avoided impeachment despite a White House operation to sell arms to Iran illegally and steer the proceeds to rebels in Nicaragua, also illegally. Nothing alleged about Trump—apart from claims of conspiracy with Moscow that seem less and less likely to be borne out even as some of Trump’s adversaries are determined to whip up more and more hay over them—compares to these things. Worse, if Trump’s small-time sleaze (which, so far, is what it seems to be) is made the basis for his removal from office, then a sizable portion of the American electorate will become radicalized by what they’ll see as a coup, and we’ll be even worse off than before. To put it another way, prophecies of Trump’s downfall still look like wishful thinking. And even if the thinking isn’t wishful, we might be better off if it were.

Adam Curtis - Hyper normalisation (originally posted once i had decided on a documentary however post failed and so it occurs later chronologically than it actually happened)

I think the most successful element of its documentary is its pacing and flow between topic to topic. The basic premise being that in society there is an inevitable cycle of those in power lying to us and us as a society simply ignoring it. “we become so much a part of the system that we are unable to see beyond it. The full definition of hyper normalisation was  provided in Alexei Yurchak's 2006 book Everything was Forever:

‘everyone knew the system was failing, but as no one could imagine any alternative to the status quo, politicians and citizens were resigned to maintaining a pretence of a functioning society.[6] Over time, this delusion became a self-fulfilling prophecy and the "fakeness" was accepted by everyone as real, an effect that Yurchak termed "hypernormalisation" ‘

I think the very nature of basing a whole documentary about terminology and looking at different cases that show this instead of say a documentary about “trump” or “brexit” or “facebook” is so much more potent. The ability to seemlessly link the social engineering behind islamic suicide bombing to facebook’s echo chamber algorithms to Trump’s rise to power not only is jaw dropping but also beautifully poetic. It’s a fantastic way to cover a huge range of material in a genuinely linked way.

For this reason I intend to shift my focus of my work.

I from now on intend to yes, focus on perception and how we perceive the world but with the angle of exploring the nature of “doubt” and scepticism towards commonly accepted truths such as:

. The external world existing

. Logic being true

. We exist as mind

. We exist as a physical body

. What we perceive correlates to the external world.

why shift?

I think it’s really tricky in philosophy (unless one already has an interest) to create genuinely engaging work to a demographic of “regular people” (not negative or looking down whatsoever)  due to the abstract disconnect between philosophical discussion and our every day lives. I think taking the idea of scepticism in a as Curtis explains in his documentary “Post Truth world” where the media will happily skew facts, create caricatures and shift focuses out of self interest.

With that in mind, creating work based on being sceptical of information at face value I think not only is more impactful, but more genuinely useful and engaging for any audience with a slight interest in politics and the media.

Going back to hyper normalisation, Curtis is able to create an extremely visually fluent cohesive work through “found footage” which can either directly correlate to what he is saying or hold a more subtle symbolic meaning. A screenshot provided depicts this most effectively. As Curtis discusses a disconnect between politicians and the real world he could have used a direct clip of say, trump saying an inaccurate truth, but he doesn’t. He picks a clip of David Cameron walking through a ghost-like town with noone living in it. I think this almost ironic re-purposing of film, combined with the “found footage” aesthetic really enforces the anti-establishment and somewhat “punk” themes of the documentary.

In my Galatians study I talked about the promised ‘seed’-

Galatians 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.

God promised to bless the world thru one of the offspring of Abraham.

We also saw in my Samuel study that God made a promise to King David that one of his sons would sit on the throne ‘forever’-

2Samuel 7:13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

These promises were fulfilled thru Christ.

The first promise of a coming Messiah was given to Eve in the creation account-Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

We call this the Protoevangelion - meaning the first time we see the good news [gospel].

At the time of Christ they were awaiting for a Messiah who was prophesied to come.

Yet they were looking for a deliverer In the natural sense- meaning someone who would save them from the ‘occupation’ of Rome.

Yet- Jesus fulfilled the promises in a different way-

He told us his kingdom was not like the world’s kingdoms-

John 18:36

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

 God made these promises to various people thru out the history of the Old Testament.

The main figures he gave these promises to did not understand all of the implications at the time.

Abraham obeyed God- yet the promise of a son- Isaac- came to pass thru many trials.

David had his struggles as well- yet he did Father Solomon- experienced divisions in his kingdom and family- but yet the one seed- the one child spoken about- was still to come.

The first promise foretold that this coming deliverer would ‘bruise his head [satan] and he would bruise his heel’-

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Heel?

The prophecy was fulfilled at the Cross.

Yes- Jesus would indeed suffer a bruise- wound- in this battle.

Yet- it was thru this ‘bruising’ that he would fulfill the promise.

Yes- he is the seed of Abraham- that would bless the world.

He is the Son of David- that would arise to sit on the throne.

And he is the woman’s Son- who would suffer an injury-

And in doing so- would redeem the world-

NOTE- just a brief note before I post. In the news right now we are seeing- every night- the ‘advance’ on Mosul- a city in Iraq that ISIS took.

Why is this- now- a major news story? [Beside the nonstop talk about Trump].

Because it is an effort- by the media- and our country- to change the narrative.

Meaning ‘look- we are really attacking- and killing- ISIS’.

ISIS has had this city for about 2 years- many of the people in the city see ISIS as their defenders- because they are on the religious side of ISIS- in the division within Islam.

The Iraqi govt. forces are not on the side of some of the citizens in Mosul- and the history is when the Iraqis take back a city- with our help- the people are treated like ISIS.

So- we- the U.S. - are willing to side with the actual murder of some of the citizens in Mosul- simply because it serves our political purposes leading up to the election.

It gets the story on the front lines ‘look- the Obama administration [who Hillary was secretary of state] is really doing a great job fighting ISIS’.

Yet- when [if] the city falls- what will happen next?

In a year or 2 [or a month after the election in the U.S.] it will either go back to ISIS- or the Iraqis will persecute the citizens [kill] who they see as siding with ISIS.

Some in the city sided with them because ISIS gave them a type of government- which they did not have under the American backed Iraqi leadership.

So- that’s why you are seeing this as a top story- sad indeed.

They were a people that felt like they were unstoppable.

The alliances they made were their downfall.

As I read the book the other night- it made me think about our present situation.

NEWS- [Mosul- 3 Americans shot and killed yesterday in Jordan- Wiki leaks reveals real corruption]

I mentioned the last few weeks about our actions in Mosul Iraq.

The U.S. is backing up the overthrow of this city- for political purposes.

I mentioned how the Iraqi troops we are backing are Shia [Muslim division] and some of the population of Mosul are Sunni.

Should we be backing up a ‘genocide’- meaning one group [Iraqi Shia] wanting to eliminate another [Sunni].

I saw a report on PBS news- the interviewer brought up the fact that the tanks that are now rolling into Mosul are flying Shia flags.

Meaning- they are not there to ‘liberate’ people- but to murder Sunni.

I saw another report where the U.S. backed Iraqi troops shot bullets ‘blind’ into a hiding place.

The report on U.S. news did not say if women and children were hiding in there- and if they were murdered by U.S. backed troops.

The military man that was confronted with the question ‘why are U.S. backed tanks flying Shia flags’- he avoided the question- and used ‘spin’.

As of now- its possible women and children have been murdered- with the backup of U.S. power.

That’s wrong.

3 of our men were shot and killed in Jordan yesterday-

Last year a Jordanian captain shot 2 Americans.

In yesterday’s incident the Jordanians claim the U.S. men did not stop at the gate- so they killed them.

Yet- there are resentments that our men are there.

The U.S. says it is investigating- because we don’t want it to ‘strain relations’.

Meaning- yes- it’s possible they murdered our men- but- it’s more important to not have such a bad headline right before the election- because it might make Hillary and her record on foreign policy look bad.

So- maybe they simply murdered our men- but- we have more important political things.

Our nation is obviously divvied on the election- and it’s shocking to actually see the corruption in our government that was exposed the last few weeks by WIKI leaks.

It shows a level of collusion within politics that covers up for those who have connections.

The FBI agent who tipped off the Clinton people about an investigation into the emails- broke the law when he did this.

The government’s official response was ‘when he tipped Clinton off- he was using his own personal email- so that’s ok’.

People have gone to prison for stuff like this- but it is showing you a level of corruption inside our government.

This is not simply a ‘Trump- Clinton’ thing- it is a national corruption scandal.

(1143) THE FALL- God puts man in the garden, he gives him only one restriction ‘don’t eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil’ sure enough, he does! The serpent [satan] tempts Eve in 3 areas, the tree is good for food [lust of the flesh] good to look at [eyes] and can make you wise [pride]. In 1st John 2 we see these three areas mentioned as the common categories of all other temptation. These were the same areas the devil used on Jesus in Matthew 4. The temptation to Eve essentially said ‘look at this God of yours! He wont give you the freedom to do anything you want, he is withholding such a good tree from you’ sounds like the philosopher Freud, he taught that the problem with man was Gods restrictions. That if man would cast off the limits that religion imposed upon them, then all would be well. But what man did not know was that these basic limits were for his own good. When man would choose to walk out from under Gods limits, he would suffer for it. In this chapter [Gen. 3] we also see the great prophecy of the child of the woman eventually crushing the serpents head [called the Protoevangelium- Latin] a prophecy about Christ’s future victory at the Cross. God also covers man with animal’s skins, a type of the future sacrifice of Christ on behalf of man. Man tried to cover up with leaves, God said it wont do, so he sacrificed the life of an animal and used the skins as a covering. The wages of sin is death, the price was paid. In Romans chapter 5 Paul will show us that death and sin passed upon all mankind from Adams sinful act, but thru the obedience of one man [Jesus dying on the Cross] righteousness comes to those who believe. This is the basic Christian doctrine of original sin. Some refer to this as the federal head theory of redemption. I believe it’s vital for Christians to have a grasp of this doctrine. In the 19th/20th centuries you had liberal theologians deny the doctrine of Jesus dying on behalf of man. Along with this they also denied that original sin existed. Most believers realized that this denial was heresy and avoided it, but some are playing with the idea again. The bible clearly teaches the substitutionary atonement of Jesus Christ on the behalf of man [Isaiah 53] and it is a foundational doctrine for all true believers. To some it seemed unfair to charge God with the doctrine of original sin, and along with it the doctrine of Penal substitution [Christ being punished for us] these are core Christian truths, if people want to deny them, that’s their choice. But to be a Christian in the biblical sense of the word, these truths are necessary, they are part of the foundation of all true Christian churches.

Hebrews 11:14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.

Hebrews 11:15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

Hebrews 11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

Hebrews 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,

Hebrews 11:18 Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
