the dining room felt barren; once, that grand, lacquered table had hosted the whole family, their seats now tucked neatly beneath regal, blue cloth. the woefully empty porcelain plates with elegant roses on sinuous vines stared at gepard, his sole consolator within that narrow hall of judgment. he was only ever summoned there upon their father’s whims, often capricious, lurching violently from commendations for his exploits into fierce tirades, accusing him of incompetence, in his duties, in life. he could often gauge his father’s stance from a guarded distance, having grown adamantine beneath his irate thrashings. for now, he is pleasant, yet their conversation is pervaded with tension. his father was insistent that gepard yield to his decree of marriage, that he had a besotted aristocrat's daughter lined up for him when he finally realized that his father knew better than him.  it was an enervating conflict. gepard landau was many things, resolute, dependable, principled, he could not permit himself to view another person as nothing more than an asset, furthering his father’s avarice. it was a stand still they had crested many times, that always ended in rancorous arguments, that gepard capitulated before because he knew his father was a vile man, he would not put it past him to fetter that responsibility onto his sister if given the opportunity. “ I will hear no more of this nonsense, boy.” he had a penchant for hitting him with that epithet, acrid and demeaning, as if he were a child - not a man. “ I have given you enough time, enough chances.” fingers adorned in thick, golden bands curl around his goblet, striking it to the table for emphasis. “ you have done nothing but disgrace this family’s name, do you know what they say about you.” he lies, he was practiced in it, if anyone knew the renown their family name held, the burden of that esteem, it was him, the one who had to preserve it, epitomize it. he doesnt realize he’s standing, that the edges of those thorny vines grow amorphous, the red bleeding into the green, the green into the off - white. “ I was a fool to entrust you with your own affairs.” 

 he takes a breath, a shuddered inhale, compelling himself to remain composed, to not let the barbed defamation sink beneath his skin. “ father.” he manages. it was a title bereft of any sort of paternal fondness. his gait carries him, stride after stride, past the chair his sister serval used to sit in, her elbows propped on the table, talking loudly, despite their father’s chagrin. past the chair adjacent to their fathers where once their mother had sat, a lovely, ethereal apparition, her countenance gentle, her eyes cornflower blue. he stops before him, his father, unbothered by his audacity, accustomed to his puerile efforts to revolt. he tilts his head back, their eyes meet in a clashing of glacial steel, the temperature in the room descending sharply, as cold as the inhospitable winter outside. “ you believe yourself wise.” his tongue is laden with disdain, his mouth contorted in disgust. “ if you will not concede to me - then I’ll have your sister do so in your stead.” it’s a threat, buried to the hilt in his chest, his father knows he would relinquish his hold for their sake, even if the repercussions left him in anguish. his father recognises the weakness in his eyes, the reluctance in his rebuttal, he knows he has won. he is dreadfully wrong in his surmising. until that moment, where ire pulsed through him as a second heart-beat, he had not realized his hands were clenched, that they trembled at his side. it takes a second, only a second, for that smug expression to be scoured from his face. the impact is dreadful, his fist collides with his father’s face and his jaw jerks forward, blood filling his mouth, a tooth dislodged, agony billowing in its wake. his father turns on him, cradling his jaw, screaming - gepard is so sure he was screaming. he doesn’t hesitate the second time, nor the third. it was as if he were an unadulterated rendition of violence, his arm drawn back then thrusted down, each blow a keen, incensed weapon. his father’s face crumples, his broken nose drove further back into his face, his eyes bludgeoned and bleary. he was scrabbling to find purchase against his son’s arm, digging his lamentably blunt nails into his white, now stained red, livery. the fabric twists, slick with blood, as if his father were hanging onto him in hopes of salvation. he sinks his fingers into his father’s hair, he teeters on the verge of unconsciousness, inhaling in rasps, sputtering mouthfuls of blood. without warning gepard pulls him back, his body sagging, slamming his head violently into the corner of the table. again, again, again. each time his father’s skull caves a little more, the clumps of hair and blood glisten with rime. gepard’s breath is ragged, heat seeping from between his teeth in a visible haze. it was as if all the warmth had been drained from the room, shards of ice prickling along his viced fist, smeared with cruor. 

he strains to release his fingers, as if they were rigid and frozen, his father sinks to his knees, then falls gracelessly to his side, blood pooling from his opened mouth, his eyes blanched and sightless. he isn’t satisfied. he brings his foot down upon the man’s sternum, the sound of bones cracking eases his smoldering fury, it doesn’t bring it to cinders. “ you bastard…” his voice is unrecognizable, a grating cadence of years of resentment. he applies more pressure, his muscles straining as he feels the tenuous bone give way, skin sagging and organs squelching.  “ you fucking bastard..”  he keens, it’s an almost laugh, deplorable and shuddering, waning into a soft, furious sob. he does not feel sad. he notices how blood pools in the white, porcelain dish, how his chalice lays on its side, disgorging wine onto the blue velvet. he cannot tell where the wine coalesces into blood, where his father’s dinner mingles with fragments of skull and streaks of gore. his body hums stridently with the adrenaline of it, with the abrupt, moribund silence. his father would never be ushered to such quietude unless he was dead, that was how it rose to the surface, that it breached the threshold between gepard’s blinding, incarnadine rage and his returning senses. his father was dead.

my cat died

i’ve been diagnosed with 3 serious chronic conditions

broke up from a serious relationship 

gone through massive depression/ suicidal intentions/ self harm

went through a very real mental break down

got new friends  

fell in love

quit my job 

got diagnosed with BPD

so yeah that over a 10 month period was a lot, some time after being diagnosed i deleted tumblr and i signed out of all my google accounts as well. I made a few new tumblrs that i would usually post a fic on then deleted the account. i assumed that this acc was lost forever turns out its not so yipee and yeah im gonna be changing some stuff around so ignore that and i will be getting to those year old requests lol

Hey Felix! - A Review of The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat - Space Time Twister

Hello again! This time, we’re reviewing the second episode of Twisted Tales. If you thought the first one was trippy, well, brace yourself, because this is going to get even weirder the further we go, at least during the first three episodes!

SPACE TIME TWISTER

- 8:03-9:10 We start with an overall view of the world Felix lives in: a city with a cartoony tinge. This is shown through several elements: the peppy jazzy music, the slightly bounciness on the cars and some of the characters we can see here (including some living cars and a mouse waving at the audience)... Even Felix bounces in his place a bit while waiting to cross the road!

So the situation is that Felix has to catch a train on the subway (and gets the wrong one), and we mostly hear his thoughts during this sequence. We also get to see more fun background characters while he’s looking around for gate 9. I especially like the horse mechanic, the punk lady and the butler-like man carrying a duck. What can I say? I like it when people come up with unique designs for characters who are only meant to be scene filler. It shows that someone in the studio cared about it!

I haven’t mentioned it before, but I like those sound effects you sometimes hear, like someone just made them with the mouth. Here you can see an example of that when Felix sprints through the gate (”pshew”), but sounds like these were in Guardian Idiot as well.

We also have Felix waiting for the subway while walking in circles doing his famous, pensive walk. I just love how expressive Felix is in this series and all the poses he does!

Oh, and how the train’s door forms a face and licks its lips after Felix has entered? I really appreciate all these little details to keep something as mundane as going through the subway interesting. But it also warns us that Felix is getting into something dark (and not just in the literal sense), just like the mouse that flipped the gate’s number (around 8:37), the bats, and the skull with crossbones (which, of course, is alive as well).

- 9:10-10:07 And yet again, we have another instance of Felix being put in a vulnerable situation. Just like in Guardian Idiot when he was hungry and at the mercy of a heartless butcher, here Felix sits in an empty subway train, feeling uneasy about the whole ordeal. And then… the lights go out.

He lights up a match, but a mouse delivers him a shit-eating grin before blowing it off. Unfazed, he lights another, only to see a gajillion more mice, to which he flees in terror (you’ll see how Felix has special trouble with mice in some episodes of the series, guess it’s just a cat thing). In his frantic escape, he jumps out of the train, which continues its march without him. He shows a bit more of his attitude delivering a mocking gesture before wandering off around the empty tunnels. I like these little bits of attitude, he tries to fight against the circumstances even when he loses.

He walks into an especially dark one, which delivers us another of those scenes where only the eyes of a character are visible, but then it only reveals Felix’s outlines to show us how he got his flashlight... he made one out of his tail! I really like it when he transforms his tail into tools or uses is to express emotions. His magic bag of tricks basically does the same, but for bigger objects, right? At first I thought one would be superfluous to the other, but considering this, they work together just right!

And yes, the tail lights up, but it reveals a bunch of skeletons. It’s interesting how some of them have the “white mask” you see in old cartoons, and odd to add something like that onto a thing that’s already white, but it works well with light grey. Anyway, Felix is so scared even his flashlight-tail screams in terror! Notice how the tail turns into an exclamation sign before reattaching itself to Felix and then poofing up like a real scared cat.

- 10:07-10:34 So Felix runs away again, but this time, he slams against a heavy door. But instead of appearing solid to emphasize the impact (like, let’s say, Tom & Jerry), he’s just like putty before falling on the floor and reforming into Felix again. I think this comes from old cartoons as well, it happened in Swing You Sinners, for example.

And here’s to another of my favourite moments of the series. He attempts to open the door by pushing and pulling, but the door itself scolds him (”Hey! Whaddya think you’re doing? Can’t you read the sign?”). Felix spends a few seconds thinking what to do, and I’m think it’s from this point where he acts out of curiosity rather than fear.

That little smug smile he delivers to the audience before liquifying and sliding under the door.

- 10:34-11:28 And while Felix might outsmart a sentient door, he can’t outsmart the rest of the world he lives in, because the scenery just straight up tilts to make him fall! And he’s not just falling a long fall without a destination, he’s going straight to the center of the Earth! What awaits him? Hell? A civilization of mole people? Will he keep falling till he reaches China? Well, if you guessed any of that they’re all WRONG!

It’s a cavernous hallway that leads to another room where jazzy music comes from. Inside that room, there are strange machines that wouldn’t look out of place in a mad scientist’s lab, but even a mad scientist is too normal for Twisted Tales. The most prominent feature of the room is the strange man dancing on some sort of arch: a blue, hermit-like being that personally reminds me of the Old Man of the Mountain, from the Betty Boop short of the same name. In fact, his musical number is reminiscing of hers!

It’s a song about someone who doesn’t care about his physical appearance because he has the power to twist time and space, hence his name. This musical number’s got a good amount of gross-out scenes, and my reaction to them is the same as Felix’s:

Putting that aside, I really like it! It introduces us to this character in an effective way and does some fun stuff with him: despite not having slept “in a century or two”, his movements are really bouncy and swift! I’d also like to point out that last bit where his eyeballs fall off, crack like eggs and chicks hatch from them: it’s more of that surreal disturbance I like so much, and I’ll take it over plain gross-out any day.

This sequence does not only introduce us to the Time Twister, but also shows us Felix’s several reactions to him: double taking in disbelief, that “yuck” gesture I showed before, and grinning greedingly when the Time Twister conjures the little magic box that allows him to warp reality, to show that he covets it.

- 11:28-12:03 Finally, the Time Twister goes to sleep after the musical number. After observing for a few seconds, Felix winks to the audience, and retrieves the artifact with the help of his tail. Again, I really like it when he uses his tail, and while I think it can coexist with his magic bag of tricks, I can’t help but feel one is ditched over the other.

I really like this shot of Felix tiptoeing with the box. Makes it feel he’s in a cave even with no particular cave-like elements.

And when he feels he’s far enough from the Time Twister and tries to make sense out of the box… suddenly, the frickin McGuffin of this episode becomes alive! How wonderful is that? “Hey! Whaddya think you’re doing? Let go of my nose! Now you’ve done it: you’ve twisted time and space!”

And if you thought this was going to be a simple time travelling adventure, lemme tell you: You’re. Dead. Wrong.

- 11:03-13:05 There’s spirals, there’s screaming, there’s Felix fucking devolving all the way back to the primordial sea. It’s quite a cool notion that, when time travelling, you change along with the time period! Felix as a fish has a run-in with a hungry fish, and rushes back to the Box, who is casually chilling underwater.

Note how he keeps devolving even if we’re getting the very few bare bones of a plot (escaping from bigger fish). What would have happened if Felix didn’t find the box in time?? For an extra dash of body horror, Felix forces himself to grow arms in order to use the box again, which results in these skeleton arms ripping from his now single-celled body. And the Box’s expressions and dialogue as if it has seen it all already (“Yipes! I’m outta here, man!”)

- 13:05-13:32 In our next time warp (oops), we zoom into Felix’s eyes, which have now turned into clocks. And then we see he’s in a world full of clocks, representing Time. And when they strike twelve, they make such a thundering noise that Felix can barely handle it.

But, without a warning, the scenery changes, and Felix finds himself inside a beaker. I guess this place, if we can call it that, is meant to represent Space, and I find it interesting that instead of actual, stars-and-planets space, it’s represented by chemistry and the laws of physics. Electricity runs, the formula starts to bubble, and we get to see Felix transform into various… oddities. My best guess is that these forms are based on figures and other desktop toys the production staff had.

God, I love it when a series keeps surprising you!

I also like the music during the last two segments, that “tick tock” from the Time scene that speeds up during the Space one, and that jazzy segment… for me, it reflects some sort of loftyness, as if the laws of physics have changed so much from what we consider normal that now it’s so easy to alter a living being’s shape in a matter of seconds. What I’m trying to say is that it goes really well with what’s happening on the screen, for some reason!

- 13:33-14:16 Next, we shift to a different dimension, in which Felix, in the last form he took in the Physics dimension, is approached by strange, upside-down faced creatures. They start to blow raspberries at him.

Annoyed by it, Felix comes up with an idea quickly, and that is OUTRIGHT REMOVING HIS OWN HEAD, PUTTING IT UPSIDE DOWN AND BLOWING A RASPBERRY BACK TO THEM. You gotta admire how he tries to go with the logic of the world, even if it’s not his own world, and probably not even his own dimension! (also, this is a tiny gruesome detail, but have you noticed how the “drops” that come out when he pulls out his head are red?)

Back to the creatures, they don’t seem amused by this at all, because they turn into eyes and fuse together, threatening both Felix and the Box. Startled, the latter twists time and space to escape, and in the next scene we can see that poor Felix has had enough.

His pupils are dilated, he tries to run away, but comes across more interdimensional monsters: the eyeball from before, dinosaurs, robots, hell, even the Moon is angry at him! Desperate, he turns to the magic Box, “can’t you do something?”. Pay close attention. He’s in tears. He’s a cat who has seen too much.

- 14:16-14:48 “Oh for crying out loud!” What is the Box’s solution to Felix’s predicament? Call the Time Twister, who makes his appearance by literally ripping the fabric of reality (while Felix runs in circles). Isn’t he wonderful how he scolds Felix by singing, implying that he can only sing to communicate?

So he takes the box, kicks Felix out of a circle closing around him and… nope, the cartoon is not over yet! Felix hears music, and, curious yet again, pulls open the “circle” to reveal the Time Twister dancing with some of the characters we have encountered previously. And Felix joins the party! I guess that’s as happy as an ending can get here.

So, we’ve reviewed one of the weirdest episodes of an already weird series! It’s been a bit hard to guide and comment through the space-time twisting part of this section, because I guess that’s the nature of surreal and trippy things like this. But I’d really like to make sequences like this, so I think it was worth analyzing it!

So long...

The imp woke up at about 10:20. Staying up online way past midnight would do that to you. He rose slowly, quickly turning on his computer (again) while his mind caught up to him. When his computer booted up, he took a look at the date.

Hm. There had to be something special about that date, but what?

He decided to wait it out. Maybe his brain was still sleeping.

At the kitchen, he took the usual: cold slices of untoasted bread and chocolate milk. A sleepy mind cannot make a complicated breakfast. Plus, lunchtime was coming soon. He should eat lightly.

The only thing that Kuroo wanted right now was a hug. A kiss. A something. He didn’t know but he was pining for anything.

So here he was, spread out on the tile floor of his employers break room, texting his listless boyfriend, Kenma, who was back at their apartment probably cuddling with one of their two cats.

Kuroo groaned loudly as he stood himself up to go sweep the small shop’s floor for the last ten minutes.

The whole time he was sweeping he had an assortment old ladies and edgy teenagers come up to him asking where the cleaning supplies were or if he knew where they could buy some smokes. He’d point them in the right direction before going back to sweeping the same spot he had already swept five times before.

Kuroo loved Kenma. No, Kuroo admired Kenma but he also loved him. He’d been in love with him ever since he realized girls weren’t his forte during his first year of high school.

People always looked at the pair like they had been walking around nude in public. Not because they were gay but because it was a surprise they saw coming; they just didn’t know it would happen so soon.

They were inseparable and everyone saw that coming but they thought that Kuroo would be the one “wearing the pants” in the relationship but boy, they were wrong.

Kenma was just more collected than Kuroo despite his anxious and shy persona. Yeah, Kuroo was more of an extrovert than Kenma but Kenma knew when to tell Kuroo to shut the fuck up if he has to.

And to be honest, Kuroo doesn’t care. He likes when Kenma tells him what to do because in the words of Bokuto Koutarou himself, “You’re whipped, Bro.”

It’s better that way in Kuroo’s eyes though because that makes Kenma a little less introverted in social situations. Kuroo won’t allow him to be the shadow he was back in grade school; when they were kids and playing volleyball together at the park.

If Kenma doesn’t have to do anything, he won’t. That’s why Kuroo doesn’t try to censor himself. Ingenious, right?

Looking at the clock, Kuroo sped to the break room, throwing the broom in some corner off the room and grabbing his stuff. Two minutes later, he was clocked out and making his way back home.

“I’m back!” He announced, tossing off his shoes by the door. He glided through the apartment with his socks acting as his skates. “Kenma?”

He heard a muffled, “In here” from the living room and he made a quick right to that room.

Before entering, he could already tell that Kenma hadn’t done anything all day. The lights were off with the exception of the bright colors emitting from the anime playing on the television, the cats were laying on the couch, each on one end, and Kenma was wrapped in the giant blanket that he had bought on Wish for 600 yen. He sure was one for not spending too much money.

“Kenmaa” Kuroo started, slinking his way onto the couch, slipping underneath Kenma’s blanket to lay with him. Kenma whining about him being too heavy, Kuroo ignoring him. “You were laying in this exact position when I left the house this morning.”

“That is correct,” Kenma says, keeping his eyes on the T.V screen. A brightly colored anime girl bounced around the school screaming, “Onii-chan!” annoyingly.

“It’s a Friday.” Kuroo furthered.

“That is also correct,” Kenma confirmed.

“Don’t you have classes on Friday’s?” Kuroo asked after a few seconds of quiet. Kenma sighed, pausing his show and looking at his boyfriend who just gave him a look that oozed “Give-Me-Attention”,

“The professor e-mailed everyone this afternoon saying that class was canceled due to the fact that his wife went into labor.”Kenma said, looking Kuroo in the eyes “Any more questions?”

Kuroo was quiet. He nodded at his explanation but he was chewing on his lip like he was thinking of another question. Kenma just raised his eyebrow, fascinated by the fact that his boyfriend still seems to be attractive whilst thinking of ways to annoy him.

Out of nowhere, Kuroo lights up, grinning like a clown, “Can I have a kiss?”

Surprised by how innocent that question sounded, Kenma let out a small laugh, nodding at his question. He leaned down to reach his boyfriend in the middle, their lips connecting softly. He would never give Kuroo the satisfaction of knowing, but Kenma loves kissing him. It’s honestly one of his favorite parts of being in a relationship with such a dork.

Every time it happens it’s like it’s their first kiss all over again to Kenma. So soft and gentle, slowly leading into something more. After a few seconds, Kuroo is more on top of Kenma than before and the cats are bouncing off the couch, obviously annoyed by their owners disturbing them. Kenma pulls away first, his face flushed and his lips parted. “You played me.”

“You played yourself, kitten,” Kuroo smirks, leaving a kiss on Kenma’s jawline and traveling down towards his neck. Kenma tilts his head so he has more access. The first kiss on his neck making him blush slightly.

“You’re annoying, did you know that? I was peacefully watching my anime, avoiding my classwork, and here you are, having the audacity, too-”

Kenma gasps in the middle of his rant when Kuroo bites down slightly on his neck. Kuroo laughs when Kenma slaps his back.

“Tetsurou!” He exclaims, blushing profusely. Kuroo just chuckles at his boyfriend’s reaction, coming back to kiss him on the lips for a few seconds.

“You’re such a pain.” Kenma mumbles as Kuroo pulls away.

“But you love me..” Kuroo says cheekily, a grin on his face.

Kenma couldn’t help but smile at his dorky boyfriend, “Yeah, you’re right.”

Goal #1 – Take Full Advantage of Having My Husband Home 24/7 The HH pulled Manny out of his winter hibernation, fired him up and tilled up the {soon to be} raspberry and asparagus beds. We are still waiting for our plants to arrive in the mail, they were supposed to be here a few days ago but I think pretty much every seed company is swamped right now, so they’ll be here when they get here I guess. The good news is the weather next week is looking pretty nice {with only 1 day of rain} so I’m excited. Some days I miss having a giant garden, and other days I’m like, you know, living on a 1/3 of an acre isn’t so bad after all. What more do two people need than a few garden boxes, some pots and a few rows of berries? Goal #2 – Take Better Care of Myself.  I made an apple pie. In my pj’s. And the over the course of 3 days ate the entire pie by myself. Fruit. It’s really good for you. Especially when it’s in pie. Goal #3 – Get Organized Guess who was a total no show this week because they spent waaaaaaaay to much time online and wasting a ridiculous amount of time staring at a screen? The plan: March 22 – 28 Paint Kitchen Walls, Trim Doors and Office Door March 29 – April 4th – Finish Garden Beds {Raspberry & Asparagus Beds, 3 New Flower Beds Along the Back of the House} April 5th – 11th – Paint Master Bedroom Walls, Trim and Doors April 12th – 18th – Make Window Treatments for Master Bedroom April 19th – May 2nd  Make Window Treatments for Sunroom Goal #4 – Get Proper Window Coverings on All Our Windows.  Working on it. But we still need to: Figure out what to do with the old pavers. Create 2 more brick edged flower borders. Till up area for raspberry and asparagus beds. Plant hydrangeas along the back of the house Create a seating area {a super simple one} Figure out where to put all the extra pea gravel A few from the drone. If you look closely you can see the brick garden edge coming into shape along the back of the house. Today I’ll be extending the border along the right side and prepping that weird outlet of dirt for grass seed. The HH will {hopefully} be shoveling up the last of the fire pit pea gravel and wheeling it over to the neighbors {they are thrilled to take all our castoffs, and we are thrilled they want them}. And now I think I’m good on garden markers for my Etsy shop for the foreseeable future. Canyoneering or canyoning (n.) is considered a sport of exploring a canyon that includes: rappelling, rafting and waterfall jumping.

Caution: Jump at your own risk, but luckily, you can skip the hard levels anyway.

Canyoneering is the first on my “100 things bucket list” (inspired by Sebastian Terry’s book – 100 Things – what’s on your list?).

You may wonder why canyoneering is the first on my bucket list; just so you know, I live in Cebu City, Philippines. I have been in Cebu for almost 3 years now, and I have to admit I haven’t tried anything extreme nor did I explore much of Cebu. I have first heard about canyoneering from my officemates in a call center and all of them asked me to join in which I definitely said “no”. I am afraid of heights and closed or small spaces- so I don’t think I need to further explain why I said “no”. Scaredy cat you may say I am but in all honesty, YES, I don’t have the angst nor guts. Not until you encounter a certain tragedy that will then let you realize, living in a box nor extensive precaution will let you miss the fun in living. Alright, alright, will skip the boring details and will proceed with the action and thrill of this experience.

Here it goes…

My client asked me to head to Badian with some people from our company, experience canyoneering and live to tell the experience, all expenses paid (so I can’t say “NO” and just shooed my coward side somewhere else). Just got lucky! :)

Before continuing my story, things to note for a canyoneering well-spent in Badian:

You can hire a car (Toyota Innova) for as low as 5,500PHP. 6,500PHP for a van. The transfer fee is already to and from your destination. Or, you can ride the bus at South Bus Terminal an hour away if you are coming from Mactan-Cebu International Airport. Bus fare can be 150PHP to 200PHP depending on the bus you will be riding, if it has an AC, then it’ll be expensive. For this trip, we hired a car instead.

 Not that I am promoting here, but just a piece of advice, Get a tour package! Why? Because everything else will be taken cared for. The package already includes food and bottled water, motorcycle fee, entry fee, tour guide and canyoneering gear. Side note for gears: They will provide a helmet and a life jacket with a harness. They will also provide you some trekking shoes or sandals if they have available shoes with your size (ssshh! Just a tip, I would personally advise you to wear your own trekking shoes or sandals, you might not like the ones they will be offering). For this, I would personally recommend Highland Adventures (for further details, please see link: https://highlandadventuresph.wordpress.com/) Canyoneering package is at 1,500PHP/pax which is really affordable and the service they have rendered is more than the price, so better check them out if you’re planning to experience canyoneering.

A must not forget note: You will be needing lots and lots of water! (I know you will from time to time be able to drink some of the river’s water but don’t worry, I haven’t had any stomach ache nor were the people who went with me – haha).

So, the exact date was March 18, 2017. The trip started at the meeting place where the 6 of us met in the parking lot of Mango Square Mall Cebu City. Since the meeting place is near a Jollibee chain, we have some meals for breakfast and drop by the 7-eleven shop for chips and some bottled water. The trip from the city to Badian can take roughly 4-5hrs depending on your speed and congestion. As for me, I am used to long land travels, since I have traveled from Zamboanga City all the way to Davao City (that’s like 26hrs all in all, these are the Southern part of the Philippines). Along the way, you will be passing by the famous “lechon” town in Cebu which is Carcar (this is also the biggest shoe factory in the city), you will know when you are in Carcar because you’ll see a roundabout as old as time, PLUS you’ll see vendors selling “chicharon” (A local trademark of Carcar which is consisted of fried pork belly or pork rinds). You won’t totally get bored along the travel since you will be seeing the beauty of nature at its finest details, from trees to valleys, to beaches and sunrise. You will totally get lost with the Spanish-inspired churches and plaza, old houses and ruins. And of course, not to mention the long and funny chit-chats with your friends.

Once you reached Badian, you may inform Michael (Highland adventure’s contact person) and they will be happily meeting you, their station is just along the road so you will not be having any hard time locating them.

A short briefing will be held at the station, followed by signing a waiver and settling of accounts for any balance.

Here’s us after the briefing.

POWER NOTE: Please do some stretching before canyoneering to avoid muscle pain, I am reminding you and I am telling you, you will be sore all throughout the next day if you won’t.

Once briefing is done, they will hand you over your life vests and will be assisting you with the harness. NOTE: It is government mandated “to always wear your respective helmets”.

And we are set with our canyoneering gears!

Every group of people (maximum of 10) can be accompanied by (2) two guides, these guides are well trained and know the trails by heart, as they grew with the river and had their childhood in it as well. In this photo, we are accompanied by one of the coolest guide (in yellow helmet) you’ll ever meet.  The above photo was taken on our way down from the station to ride the “habal-habal” or motorcycle going to the entrance of the canyoneering site.

Note: You don’t need to pay the drivers of the motorcycle as it is already part of the package. The road to the entrance of the site can be a bit rocky and a bit steep but I can guarantee you won’t feel it anyway as you will be too busy looking at the sceneries around you.

Once you get to the entrance, you will be required to register your names, and that’s it. The walking starts here… Make sure to hold on tight to your bottled water because you will need it. The walk to the mouth of the river will take at least 15-30mins depending on how fast you can walk. The path has been cemented, you’ll feel like you’re just walking through a canopy in a park.

This is the steepest part of the path, so I guess you can just all manage since most of us did. And the rest are either plain or going down (they have created stairs made of mud!) :)

Yipee! We reached the middle of the trail (that part of which needed walking, not the actual canyoneering trail).

Don’t worry if you ran out of bottled water along the way, you will be able to pass by some local stores and they even offer fresh coconut juice! Whew!

I am sure a couple of minutes after you go down the stairs made of mud, you will feel a sudden excitement as you hear the rush of the water, oh before I forget, don’t get too excited as you might slide down the stairs, be careful and watch your steps. It can be a little bit slidey. It will all be worth it I swear! When you reach the end of the stairs, you will be welcomed by these amazing rock formation – I know, nature has its own art!

 See the look on our faces? I, for one, was captivated and left speechless, I have never seen something like this my whole life of traveling.

The actual canyoneering trail will start here. The swimming and jumping, climbing and walking will start here. Alert! Water in the river is “cold”, so know what to expect! Brrrrrr.

The jump. The jump you will need to take is from 12ft to 35ft (this is the last level – yes, save the best for last!)

This is the first level of all the jumpings in this trail. This is “just” 12ft for adrenaline junkies, but for people that are afraid of heights (like me!), this is already a grail for contemplating about your past mistakes. I am not the one who is jumping in the picture (if you have that question in mind when looking at the photo). I was the second to the last from a group of 6 to jump off this first level (I did have an actual video of the jump, but sad to say, all files were corrupted and gone – I know, a bummer right?). And in all honesty, I can still remember vividly what the feeling was – once you’ve got your feet up in the air world war III happens inside your head (regrets, mistakes, past, and the never ending what if’s of life). Seriously the longest 2 seconds of your life and whoosh, cold water embraces and knocks out your senses back to life – and yes, I survived!

Power tip for not-so-adrenaline people: Don’t think and just jump!

After the first level jump, everything will be easy and free flowing. Imagine the feeling of just letting go and having a full on fun.

And this is just us having fun and going with the flow ;)

Who will resist a swing? Who will resist a couple of minutes being a kid? No one right? As you go near the Kawasan falls, you will have a chance to try the swing that will take you directly to the water (For only 10PHP – how awesome that can be!) or a slide that goes with the actual flow of the river.

The photo at the top seem like my other posted pictures for this canyoneering experience but wait, don’t be deceive as this is the last jump for this trail which is 35ft. There is still the mother of all jumps which is the 60ft but it’s now closed for some reasons. I was the only person in the group who didn’t have the guts to jump and went to pass the long-cut but not too long, it’s just a mixture of a 5min walk uphill and downhill until we reached the end of the trail and had the most sumptuous meal after a vigorous activity. In our menu: Pork sinigang (Pork stew in tamarind), fried chicken and unlimited rice.

Note that you will still have to walk back for 10-15mins out of Kawasan falls and ride a tricycle back to Highland Adventure station where your driver is waiting to take you home.

Arplis - News: My 14 Goals for 2020

Goal #1 – Take Full Advantage of Having My Husband Home 24/7 The HH pulled Manny out of his winter hibernation, fired him up and tilled up the {soon to be} raspberry and asparagus beds. We are still waiting for our plants to arrive in the mail, they were supposed to be here a few days ago but I think pretty much every seed company is swamped right now, so they’ll be here when they get here I guess. The good news is the weather next week is looking pretty nice {with only 1 day of rain} so I’m excited. Some days I miss having a giant garden, and other days I’m like, you know, living on a 1/3 of an acre isn’t so bad after all. What more do two people need than a few garden boxes, some pots and a few rows of berries? Goal #2 – Take Better Care of Myself.  I made an apple pie. In my pj’s. And the over the course of 3 days ate the entire pie by myself. Fruit. It’s really good for you. Especially when it’s in pie. Goal #3 – Get Organized Guess who was a total no show this week because they spent waaaaaaaay to much time online and wasting a ridiculous amount of time staring at a screen? The plan: March 22 – 28 Paint Kitchen Walls, Trim Doors and Office Door March 29 – April 4th – Finish Garden Beds {Raspberry & Asparagus Beds, 3 New Flower Beds Along the Back of the House} April 5th – 11th – Paint Master Bedroom Walls, Trim and Doors April 12th – 18th – Make Window Treatments for Master Bedroom April 19th – May 2nd  Make Window Treatments for Sunroom Goal #4 – Get Proper Window Coverings on All Our Windows.  Working on it. Goal #5 – Master Bedroom Make Over Decided to go with white curtains and rods. Enough of that Roman shade bit {although I still need to make 6 more for the sun room}. Goal #6 – Kitchen Update The walls are still yellow. Goal #7 – Install Vegetable Garden The garden boxes are in place! Raspberry and asparagus beds are dug {we’re just waiting for the plants to be delivered}. And I might plant a row of lettuce this week. But we still need to: Figure out what to do with the old pavers. Create 2 more brick edged flower borders. Till up area for raspberry and asparagus beds. Plant hydrangeas along the back of the house Create a seating area {a super simple one} Figure out where to put all the extra pea gravel A few from the drone. If you look closely you can see the brick garden edge coming into shape along the back of the house. Today I’ll be extending the border along the right side and prepping that weird outlet of dirt for grass seed. The HH will {hopefully} be shoveling up the last of the fire pit pea gravel and wheeling it over to the neighbors {they are thrilled to take all our castoffs, and we are thrilled they want them}. Goal #8 – Explore More of Maine  Looking forward to my next day trip with the HH! Harpswell, Maine is on the list next, but it will have to wait a bit. For now, the only exploring we are doing is called Will it Grow in Maine? Sugar snap peas? Yes! On the radar for exploring Maine this month: Bar Harbor, Maine Lincolnville Center General Store in Lincolnville, Maine Wallace’s Market in Friendship, Maine Alewives Fabric Store in Nobleboro, Maine Harpswell, Maine and Bailey Island Goal #9 – Host Some Sort of Get Together Patio lights are going up this week! I listened to the The Aviator’s Wife {again} on audiobook this week while I worked in the basement. I need another story! Perfectible historical fiction or a biography.  Goal #10 – Read/Listen to 12 Books Olive Kitteridge Smitten Kitchen Every Day: Triumphant and Unfussy New Favorites Natural Color: Vibrant Plant Dye Projects for Your Home and Wardrobe  The New Bungalow Kitchen  Container Gardening by Stephanie Donaldson  A Piece of the World The War I Finally Won Vertical Gardening Front Yard Gardens The Complete Cooking Light Cookbook Beach House Style Goal #11 – Learn A New Skill or Craft Hopefully this fall? Right now I’m on a mission to get the garden in place. Goal #12 – Visit 12  Museums, Historical Homes or Botanical Gardens {and bakeries too!} Currently on hold. Lucy doesn’t seem to mind though. I dyed  wool last week and updated my Etsy shop with a few new wool bundles. As far as rug hooking goes, I wasn’t able to stay focused and only hooked a few flower stems. This was supposed to be a new rug hooking pattern I was going to release on April 3rd. But after 5 weeks of distraction, I have decided to set it aside to work on this winter. I made a promise to the local historical society that I would hook a Maine themed rug for their bicentennial celebration later this summer, it’s a big one, and I am supposed to have it completed in 5 weeks. But at this rate…. at the rate I’m going, I might have to have a internet / social media free week so I can get it done. Mrs. HB sent me a text saying she needed a few more garden markers… so I figured while I was at it, I might as well make a few more. And now I think I’m good on garden markers for my Etsy shop for the foreseeable future. I find it interesting that some things hold my attention these days… and others, well they seem like a lost cause. Goal #14 – Once a Month Menu Planning {for 2} I re-arranged the freezer this week and now have room to hold a few freezer meals. Yipee! Next on the list… Chicken Chili. Goal #1 Spend More Time Doing What I Love

Red alert people, RED ALERT. It was 6 degrees this morning when I woke up. SIX!!! That.Is.Chilly. The Girl and I were going to walk Lucy on the beach this morning but those plans have been scraped. Gaaaa. I think if its 6 degrees outside, all bets are off and you can most certainly declare it a pajama day. Whos with me on this?

Goal #2 Garden, Garden, Garden

Garden are done for the year. Yipee!

Goal #3 Plant an Orchard {Calling it Quits on this one.}

Lemon baby #3 is on the way and we are patiently awaiting her arrival.

Goal #4 Gussy Up the Potting Shed Done!

I gussied up the potting shed at our old house, but I would like to add some sort of potting station to the backyard here somewhere, but Im not sure where I would put it yet.

I did come across this photo on Author Susan Branchs Instagram page though of a picture she tooth at Colonial Williamsburg. Isnt it cute? I think I need one of those.

Goal #5 Grow Enough Extra Vegetables, Eggs and Flowers to Earn $1500 at my little roadside vegetable stand.

It was totally my intention to grow a ton of fruits and vegetables to sell at the farm-stand when I made my list of goals for 2019 last winter, but then we moved. So, that whole goal was sort of a bust. I do miss it though.

Goal #6 Finish Every Single Unfinished Rug Hooking Project in My Pattern Bin + 10 Things from back Issues of Magazines/Books Ive Been Meaning to Make.

While I didnt add any new finished hooked rug pieces in my Etsy shop this past week, I did hook 4 totally new rugs {1 of which will become a kit and 2 will be offered as patterns} as well as hand dyed a bunch of wool {that I was able to get listed in my Etsy shop}.

I have decided to go back to my old schedule of only listing new hooked rugs items on the first Friday of every month for next year as it seems less stressful to me. It allows me more time to hook, rather than stopping every few days to take photo, write up description and then post a single piece online. Doing it all in one big swoop seems less chaotic to me.

Goal #7 Create 12 New Rug Hooking Patterns {with at least half of them being large ones} DONE!

39 down, 13 recipes to go. We tried 2 new recipes this week. 1 was a dud and the other I will share on Tuesday. And its a good one!

Goal #14 Clean Up 52 Old Recipes on the Blog

9 down, 44 to go. Why did I make this goal? Note to self: Make fewer goals for next year.

Goal #15 Fill 100 Canning Jars 72 down, 28 to go.

I made a batch of Christmas Jam for gift giving PLUS I tried a new recipe {that was inspired by Mrs. HB} this past week and the HH and I loved it so much, that Ill be making another batch {or maybe 2} of it today {Ill share the recipe on Tuesday}.

We finished the roman shades for the kitchen nook and kitchen window. I plan on taking a break from making roman shades for the next month so I can finish making kits for my Etsy shop and paint out the entire kitchen area as well as finish a couple of art projects for the walls.

Goal #17 52 Dates with the HH {44 down, 8 to go}

The HH and I went on 2 date days this past week and one of them was to the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village for their Shaker Christmas Fair and it was so overwhelming, we left after 5 minutes.

Overwhelming in the sense that although we could tell there was going to be a lot of people at the event by the distance we had to walk to the village, what we werent expecting was that once we walked in the doors of the trustees office {where the craft fair was being held}, it was SHOULDER to SHOULDER.

Like, being at a rock concert crowded. The HH didnt even make it 2 feet in before walking out and it took me nearly 5 minutes to get from the entrance and through 3 rooms and back out the door again without even being able to look or pick up anything it was so crowded. It was nuts. And totally not in the calm, welcoming Shaker spirit and all we wanted to do was leave. And so we did.

I do want to go back though at some point to visit the museum, but it will have to be an ordinary weekday with nothing on the event calendar, thats for sure.
