Its an interesting way to view, why Casanono inspirits people and something the anime could have done with more Yo-kai.

That even the most negative sounding Yo-kai inspirit may have some benefical reason for the human that gets inspirited or at least that thats what the Yo-kai hopes.

It wasn't intentional, but I now have 3 Venoct OCs who are all siblings! Only one of them is "canon" (to my continuity of yokai watch, ofc.) From left to right: Stormy Venoct, Tsunaminoct, and Blizzard Venoct.

Blizzard Venoct is a fanchild of Extreme Blizzaria (Goku Fubukihime) and Extreme Venoct (Goku Orochi). I originally made him in 2019 and called him "Glizoct", but I don't remember why. He's a noncanon oc like Stormy Venoct because I can't justify his existence: Extreme Blizzaria explicitly claims to hate kids, and her sole focus other than serving Rinne is uncursing her brother; she and Extreme Venoct are literal criminals on the run; even if they were a thing, why would they have a child? Ontop of protecting themselves from imprisonment, they'd have to worry about a kid too.

If he did exist, it would be a tragedy. In order for him to survive living with his parents and the other Extreme yokai, he'd have to learn some dubious things. His parents do care about him, but they'd have to be hard on him so that he wouldn't get caught or imprisoned. He thinks he's a burden to his parents and the Extreme yokai as a whole, and while he doesn't want to do what they do, he wants to be involved to prove his worth. He's slightly younger than Tsunaminoct and Stormy Venoct, probably by about 2-3 years, and this is no way for a kid to live.

If he did exist and it was in the same time as Tsunaminoct (and Stormy Venoct), even worse. At first, Tsunaminoct and Blizzard Venoct don't get along: Tsunaminoct resents Blizzard Venoct as the son of the yokai her mother was seemingly abandoned for (that is not what happened,) and Blizzard Venoct resents Tsunaminoct for getting to grow up normally (also not true.) However, they eventually realize that neither of them are to blame for their situations, and they acknowledge each other as siblings after an emotional fist fight.

Perhaps the most widely known liminal god is Janus, the Roman god of gates, doors, doorways, beginnings and ends and from whom we get the name for January, a doorway into the year. To represent his nature, Janus is most often depicted as having two faces, one facing forward to view the future, one facing back, to view the past. He is one of the few Roman gods that did not descend from a Greek god, but most likely came from the Etruscan god Culśanś. The idea of transition is so intrinsically tied to Janus' being that his name means 'door' and one of his consorts, Jana, has a name meaning 'hinge' and was associated with arches and the moon, without whom, he could not perform his function. Jana is also equated to Diana, the goddess of the hunt, wild animals, fertility, and the moon. Macrobius, a 5th century Roman author who also equated Janus to Apollow, making them a sun/moon pairing.

Another door god is Menshen 門神 from Chinese mythology. Menshen are a pair of deities (Shenshu 神荼 and Yulü 鬱壘) that also guards gates and doorways, protecting them against evil influences and allowing positive influences into the home. They are responsible for punishing evil spirits by feeding them to tigers after tying them to reeds. Their story involves protecting the Jade Emperor from the spirit of the Dragon King after the Dragon King was killed for disobeying a direct order. His generals Qin Shubao and Yuchi Gong volunteered to watch his door. In order to free up the generals, he had their likenesses painted and placed on the doors. It is now traditional to change those paintings on the Chinese New Year.

Munshin 문신 is the Korean gods of doors. The first recorded door deity is Cheoyong, who protected his wife from the sexual acts of a disease deity. His image was hung to repel disease in the kingdom of Silla. Another tradition follows from the Taoist tradition where statues were used instead of or in addition to images.

Level 5 is interesting cause like, they did a Konami but good. Came out swinging with *multiple* hits. Inazuma Eleven boom, Professor Layton boom, Ni No Kuni boom, YoKai Watch BOOM and a bunch of other smaller but generally liked games (Fantasy Life, Megaton Musashi, Snack World) and then they…dipped for a while during the generation change. And that dip *feels* weird right? I looked at the reviews of the games! People still think the games feel pretty damn good yet there hasn’t been a new yoKai watch since 2019. Prof Layton is coming back when it feels he should’ve been like a bi-yearly thing. Is it that they really struggled with higher development costs versus developing just for the DS?

Even if that’s only part of the reason it kinda proves to me how unique the DS was as a popular option to develop games for tbh. Before the DS atleast on Nintendo handheld consoles a lot of games where Lesser ports tm or Tetris. The DS had this combination of power, gimmick, install base and low dev cost that companies like Level 5 and others could just afford to experiment. I think that’s the platonic ideal of the gaming handheld, smaller than the Deck, has *just* enough power for a game that feels “full” but also has a central and strong enough gimmick to make *not* taking advantage of it a little sad.

I tried to make all of them somewhat accurate to their actual heights but I probably messed it up.

If you are asking where six of the nine come from, they come from Yo-kai Watch because they look adorable and I thought you might enjoy them.

Fun fact, when I was looking for how tall Lovekov is, I found Junya Komatsu's wikipedia page. Although, it is in Japanese and I don't if you can read Japanese or not.

I would gladly accept any and all cuddles from any of these cuties :D I quite like the cat yokai. I think I'm more of a cat person than a dog one, me being born in the year of the dog and having a pupper notwithstanding.

The cats actually remind me of the cats at my college, they practically haunted us lmao because they were everywhere. They just waltz into lecture halls and classrooms like they own the place (they do)

As for Junya Komatsu's wikipedia page... oh man did I try to read it, back when I went into the Junya Komatsu Simping Rabbit Hole trying to look for stuff he was in XD It's how I found out he was in mostly stage shows and not in dramas. Revice was actually his first (and so far only) major television role. Most of what I've found like the MVs for his songs back in 2019 and snips of his old stuff was from bilibili (I had to do the search using his name in kanji) and the bowels of stage show fandom tumblr lol.

And I may have bookmarked him on a shopping site so I get notifications when he has new releases :p

A piece of media that I don’t really talk about that I got really into in quarantine was Humanoid Monster Bem/Yokao Ningen Bem. I’ve watched almost all of the series except for the spinoff Yokai Ningen Bela, which is a spinoff of the female main protagonist Bela and I’ll probably watch it sometime but it basically follows the same exact plot a trio of humanoid monsters who don’t really know where they came from and they long to be fully human or at least accepted amongst humans

Their dynamic often changes depending on the series. Sometimes Bem and Bela are presented as Belo’s mother and father since they’re seemingly older than him and in other series like the 2019 series Bela is aged down and she Bem and Belo have a sibling like relationship. I sometimes like it when Bem and Bela are treated like Belo’s parents but I prefer it when they’re all treated like siblings and I do prefer Bela to be aged down even though I do like her weird vampiric look sometimes.

I honestly don’t think it matters which series you start off with. I watched it from newest to oldest but if you want to watch it oldest to newest be my guest. I’ve been meaning to rewatch it.

Yo-Kai Watch

Yo-Kai Watch is a video game series published by Nintendo. It then got a anime adaptation which is how I know of the series. The first game came out in 2013 and since then 3 others have come out the most recent being in 2019. The anime series started airing in 2014 and finished in 2023, it ran for a total of 214 episodes.

The word 'Yokai' means ghosts or spirits in Japanese so the series based on multiple folklore tales of Japanese ghosts. What is important to me is the character designs. My project features a lot of different spirits and many of them are small and cute and inspired by talking animal side-kicks that are a trope in a lot of anime, Yo-Kai Watch along with similar series like Pokemon have so many different characters to chose from to inspire my ideas the only reason I think Yo-Kai Watch is a better fit for my project is because these characters are spirits/ghosts just like mine.

Takes place after human Donnie finds out Leo's a vampire

"You live in the old sewer systems?" Leo rose an eye ridge at Donnie's baffled question. A water bottle loosely held in the actual teens hand.

"Yeah? The old subway station there is whats been my home since I was 15???" Leo was confused as to why this was a hard concept.

"Leo when where you 15 again?" Donnie was reminded that his friend was not a 16 year old mutant turtle but an much older vampire mutant turtle. He started taking a drink of his water.

"Back in 2019?" Leo answered casually. Donnie proceded to spit his water all over the vampire in shock. "Rude!"

"Leo you are over 100 years old more than that its 2618 for crying out loud!" Donnie had jumpped to his feet.

"Damn Im old." Leos joke was more muted in shock. "Hold has it really been that long fuck."

"And you still live in the sewers of old new york." Donnie sighed sitting down.

"Yes im sorry some things I just wanted some normalcy I guess abd living in my second home gave me some of that." Donnie was silent as leo continued. "Some times I can turn on the old projector and pretend my dads watching it while I make tea. That my brothers are doing their own thing. That im not the last one left." The blood tears were trying to well up.

Donnie mentally winced he was horrible with these sorts of talks. How does one comfort a 600 year old vampire?! What would his mom do. "Look Leo I cant tell you if thats a good thing or not. But you arent alone you know that right? Just because your family from then is gone physically doesnt mean they arent still with you right? You still remeber them... oh god this is akward of all the time for emotions to happen."

"Heh your right but also emotions suck?"

"You were just about to cry and now your jokeing please my heart cant handle this wiplash."

"I joke to cope and make others feel good." Leo shrugged "you know asside from enjoying jokeing."

"...but seriously there are better places for you to live now that yokai walk with humans right and have for the past 550 years? How did that even happen again the history books arent very clear?"

"I wish I could tell you I was in a magically induced healing coma at the time"

"I have so many questions about that and Im not sure I want them answered."
