description: maybe being lab partners isn’t so bad after all
Tumblr media
if you could describe Ha Yoonbin in one word, it would be that he is the literal devil. satan himself is shaking in his boots. you hated him with all your guts. just thinking about his name sent shivers down your spine. you are also one hundred percent positive that he felt the same way about you.
it all started around middle school. with you two being the top acers of the class, there was a time the class needed a class president. of course, your friends, yedam, doyoung, keita, jyunhao voted for you to be nominated. while jihoon, yoshinori and junkyu voted for yoonbin to be nominated. you still remember it like it was yesterday. someone raised their hands to close the nominations and it was only you and yoonbin who were the candidates. everyone chose their side and of course, you lost to yoonbin with one point. since then, there has been a competition between the two of you.
back to the present, you were currently drawing random doodles in your notebook. suddenly, the teacher called your name. “hm?” you raised your head. “were you paying attention, ms. y/n?” the teacher taps his foot. you laughed awkwardly, “yes” squeaked. you hear someone scoff at the side. “as usual of our ms. genius. barely paying attention in class” yoonbin mocks. you felt your blood boil hearing his voice. “yeah at least i don’t brag about my achievements when i barely achieved half of it” you retort. yoonbin gasps, “you take that back!” he gasps, pointing at you. “make me!” you hissed. “YOU TWO IN THE PRINCIPAL’s OFFICE NOW!” the teacher in front of you boomed. you angrily grabbed your bag and stomped off to the principal’s office. yoonbin shoves his things inside his black backpack. jihoon trying to calm him down, “bro, chill out! i told you, you shouldn’t have done that!” he tries to calm an angry yoonbin. “dude, just, fuck off and wait for me during lunch” yoonbin sighs, following you to the principals office.
“same reason?” the guidance councilor mused. you crossed your arms, avoiding all forms of contact with yoonbin. yoonbin fakes a laugh and throws his hand over your shoulder, pulling you close to him. “yep! isn’t that right babe?” he coos making you flustered causing you to smack him in the face. “ow!” he flinches. the guidance councilor laughs again, “you two would make such a cute couple” she winks. you choked in mid air, “excuse me ms. kim, that’s not happening anytime soon. i’d rather date a mole rat other than her” yoonbin whispers obnoxiously. “like i would date you” you gagged. before yoonbin could react, the door opens to reveal the principal, motioning the two of you to come in his office for the nth time this school year.
“you know, i’m getting tired of seeing your faces in my office everyday” the principal facepalms. you hid your face with your hands and yoonbin plays with his fingers. “its her/his fault!” you both stand up at the same time, annoying the principal even more. “if you two get sent in here again for the last time, i would have no choice to give you both a suspension for a week” he says sternly. you two both sat down quietly. “but sir! i have perfect grades! i will be forced to be dropped from the honor roll if you suspend me!” you complained. “yeah! what she said” yoonbin nods his head towards you. “exactly. so you two should grow up and be mature about this. you two are no longer kids! but seniors in high school!” the principal scolds you two. you both lower your heads and kept quiet. “one more chance. if i see your faces here again, you two are automatically suspended” the principal sighs. you both nod and stood up from the chairs. “here’s your hallway pass. hope i won’t see you two here again” the principal passes you two a familiar pass. you walk out the principal’s office in a bad mood. stomping your way to your next class which was chemistry.
“for this year, we would be having lab days. so i will be assigning your lab partners for the rest of the year. no buts” your chemistry teacher announces to the whole class. to be honest, you didn’t really care who you end up with since you’re practically friends with everyone in this class. except for yoonbin of course.
“ha yoonbin and (y/l/n) (y/n)” you hear the chemistry teacher read off his attendance list. you hear yoonbin sigh really loudly.
this is gonna be one hell of a school year
“could you take the test tube and wash it?” you ask yoonbin who was busy doing nothing. “what?” he raises his brow at you. you looked away from the microscope to give him a glare. “wash the test tubes”
“what’s the magic word?” he smiles fakely. “YOONBIN!” you screeched. “that’s not the magic word but we’ll work with that” he snickers taking the test tube away from your hand. you watch the microscope again but only to be disturbed by the one and only lucas. “hi!” he smiles widely. you look behind you incase he was referring to someone else. “me?” you point to yourself. lucas laughs, “yes! you, y/n!” it was a good thing that you wore a mask so he won’t see the rising blush on your cheeks.
lucas was the friendliest boy in school. which makes him part of the popular kids. you admit, he was very good looking.
“don’t you have a partner? where did he go?” lucas asks you as he sees you doing all the work. you shrug your shoulders, not caring wherever yoonbin is.
“he probably ghosted on me–“
suddenly, a loud slam could be heard next to you. you jumped and looked up to see yoonbin staring intently at lucas. “hey y/n i think it’s my turn to look at that. take a break and watch me finish our work for today” yoonbin says loudly for lucas to hear. lucas looks challenged and scoffs. “anyway y/n. here you go” he shows a toothy grin handing you a piece of paper. “bye!” he waves off walking to his station. you opened the paper to reveal his number. you laughed and kept the paper in your pocket, not realizing yoonbin was watching the whole time.
“hello? earth to y/n?” keita obnoxiously waves his hand over your face. “what?” you ask dazed. “i asked what happened during the first lab session” yedam explains. you look around and see everyone staring at you.
“chemistry was fine for once. mainly because i did all the work as usual and i met– yeah that’s about it” you laughed nervously. hoping they didn’t catch the last part. “yOU MET WHO????” doyoung slams the lunch table.
“i met lucas...” you mumbled. the 3 boys stared at each other for a moment before standing up and cheering you on. “Y/N GOT A BOYFRIEEEEEEND~”
“so did you guys slit each other throats out?” jihoon asks with his infamous puppy eyes. yoonbin puts down his chopsticks. “sadly, no” “bummer” junkyu mutters. suddenly, your table nearby can be heard. “Y/N GOT A BOYFRIEEEEEEEND~” keita’s voiced could he heard. everyone’s ears in yoonbin’s table perked up. “you’re dating y/n?!” yoshinori gasps. yoonbin chokes on his kimchi. “FUCK NO!” he denies. “i think she got lucas’ number” he finishes.
“lucas wong? the popular guy?” jihoon asks. junkyu nods, “yeah he’s one of the pretty boys and the captain of the school’s basketball team” yoonbin rolls his eyes, “lowkey i feel wrong about him. something about him.. just irks me”
jihoon gave a knowing look to yoshinori and junkyu. “someone seems.... CONCERNED” he yells. yoonbin felt his face turn red. “HELL NO DUDE” he gags.
“your face says otherwise binnie~” junkyu teases. “i hate y’all” yoonbin huffs making everyone in the table laugh
weeks passed and you’ve been talking to lucas now. he was such a funny guy. on the other hand, you and yoonbin had started to make up from the past. it chemistry at the moment and you were talking to yoonbin about the upcoming project.
“so yeah, i think we should divide the things we do. i do the first 50 and you do the other half. would that be okay?” you looked up from your notebook. “sounds perfect to me” he agrees. “yay!” you smile happily, showing a small dance. yoonbin observes quietly. wondering to himself how come he has never seen this side of you.
“i have to get going soon, lucas might be waiting for me” you tell him. yoonbin looks at you confused. “what do you mean by ‘might be waiting for you’ ?” he asks. you look taken a back. “we’re going on a date. i don’t know why you’re making this a big deal yoonbin” you knit your eyebrows. “i’m just saying. he does have a reputation of playing with girls” he informs you quietly.
“like this is your business. i’m leaving now” you retort. “don’t say i didn’t warn you y/n!” he yells after you walked out of the classroom
‘just when i thought our rivalry was coming to an end’ you scoffed, gripping your bag tighter. you walked into the well known diner in town and sat down at one of the booths waiting for lucas. 30 minutes haved passed and still no sign of lucas. realizing you’ve been stood up and how yoonbin was right, you stood up and walked home. your phone vibrates like crazy in your hand. you looked down at your phone to see multiple messages from yedam, keita and doyoung asking how your date went. you closed your phone and tossed to to your bed. you didn’t think much of it except for the fact that yoonbin was actually right for once.
“so how did you date go?” yoonbin asks as he plays with the chemicals in the test tube. “you were right.. i’m sorry for not believing you” you admitted. yoonbin laughs, “told you so. you should believe the things i say for i am a truther after all” he jokes. “bitch i didn’t even say that you were a liar!” you laughed smacking him in the arm.
on the other side of the laboratory, there was jihoon, yoshinori, junkyu standing with yedam, keita and doyoung.
“alright fellas. i’m betting $20 that they would date at the end of the month” jihoon bets. “make that $50 and give it a week” keita challenges. “game fucking bet!” junkyu whisper-shouts
it was now around 4:30pm and you and yoonbin were still at the library finishing up your final chemistry project. “how much longer are we gonna stay. i’m hungry” yoonbin dreads. staring at your slouched figure answering the remaining questions. “just a little longer, it’s almost done” you reply. you hear yoonbin mutter a ‘fine!’ and sat down at one of the chairs nearby.
it was quiet for awhile and just some background music yoonbin was playing.
“hey y/n” yoonbin calls. you stopped what you were writing and looked at him. “did you know that you’re the perfect chemical? that’s why i have to test you so i know” he flirts. you felt yourself blush. “boo! that sucks! might as well help me with this” you deadpan. “bitch please, if it that pick up line sucked then why are you blushing right now?” he mimics your actions before hand. “hey y/n, take a break. i’ll take this part now” he says, grabbing the answer sheet from your hands, intentionally brushing them against each other.
“you’re such a flirt, ha yoonbin” you roll your eyes at him. “well, i mean i am a criminal did you know that?” he says. “how so?” you raised a brow at him. “because i could take your heart and go” he says all smugly. you faked gag, “this is the cringiest pick up line i’ve ever heard” “you mean the best? thanks babe” he puckers his lips at you and it grew quiet after that.
you were waiting for him to finish the last equation. swaying your legs from the height of the table you sat on. “you know, i didn’t even know why i like, liked lucas” you open up. “well that means you’re the only
one for me” he responds. “can you stop that” you blush, “nope.” he smiles, standing up from his seat and walks towards you. he stands in between your legs and he grabs your hands. “kiss me” he says. you close your eyes as you slowly lean towards him to give a soft peck on the lips.

Summary
Y/n a great ballet dancer, Jihoon an amazing hip hop dancer. Both are on their school’s dance team, and both are top tier dancers. Except, Jihoon HATES the sight of Y/n and vice versa. The two can’t stand being in the same room with each other until they are forced to. The next school dance competition is coming, and both were forced to compete as a duet. Oh, did I mention their both total opposites?

PART 3 (finally)
(note: y/n and jihoon got to yoonbins house around 5:00 after coming from the dance studio) I
 stretched back in the chair Jihoon and I shared. “FINALLY! We’re done with the track!” “I know right, finally. It sounds awesome! I can’t wait to start the choreo!” He smiles brightly holding his hand up waiting for a high five. I blushed slightly as I reciprocated the high five. “I’m in awe, you’re incredible with mixing music together! Who knew THEE Y/n was good at something other than dance.” He chuckles. “Hey give yourself some credit too! If it weren’t for you watching me dance and getting this brilliant idea of mixing our styles we wouldn’t be here!” I confess. The boy stares at me for a moment, eyebrow raised. “Hmm, you like it when I watch you dance.” What?! “I- fuck no!” I yelled pushing him off the chair as a reflex. Jihoon glares at me from the ground, rubbing his butt from the sudden impact. “Pfffft, hahahaha!!” We burst out. “Are you guys killing each other yet?” Yoonbin enters the room. “Um, what the heck happened here?” He questions. “Oh, we just finished fixing the track.” Jihoon crosses his legs looking up at the taller boy. “Took you guys long enough it’s been almost 5 hours since you guys started.” The tall boy leans on the door frame. Wow, almost 5 hours. 5 HOURS!! HOLY SHIT I FORGOT ABOUT YEONGUE!! I rapidly grabbed my phone checking the time. 10:45 Shit.
Rat; Ya Kim Y/n Rat; where are you??
Rat; hello
Rat; ?????
Rat; it’s already 10:45 WHERE TF ARE YOU?!?
I quickly dialed up my younger brother. “I am sooo sorry I forgot to text.” I pout from the other side of the call. “Yeah, whatever where are you I’m hungry.” Yeongue responded. I could tell he was annoyed, he hated being alone at night. “Hey, I know you’re mad and I’m sorry, I’ll pick up your favourite ramen from the store just give me a few ok.” I apologize. “Just get here quick.” And after that he hung up. Shit I fucked up so badly.
The boys were chatting away when I abruptly got up and headed for the door. “Y/n? Y/N!” I ignored Jihoons call. I put my shoes on and grabbed my bag ready to head out the door. I felt a hand grabbing my arm and stopping me. I turned around to face the culprit, Jihoon? “Where are you off to in a hurry?” “None of your business.” I deadpan. “Cut the shit Y/n it’s almost 11 pm. As much as I dislike you, I’m not going to let you leave here when it’s pitch dark outside.” Huh? Did I hear that right? Park Jihoon doesn’t want me alone at night by myself!? “Come on.” He says putting on his shoes and dragging me towards his car. “Bin!! Can you send the mix later.” He yells out. Yoonbin his thumb up, giving him the aye ok.
“Where too?” Jihoon asks staring up the car. “Convenience store.” Jihoon pulled out of the driveway and headed towards the nearest convenience store. I still can’t believe he wouldn’t let me leave. Why? A week ago he didn’t give a shit if I left without him. I looked out the window and sighed. Why does my mind keep replaying that moment? My heart fluttered at the thought of it. What no Y/n get a grip! He’s like your enemy, he’s annoying, a show off, and only cares for himself. Or does he? UGH! “Y/N!” I snap back into reality. I turn to the driver’s seat. “We’re here.” Jihoon says. I nod, getting out of the car and heading into the convenience store.
I quickly grabbed 5 packets of my brothers favourite ramen and got back into the car. “Uh, if you just turn here and follow the road-” “Don’t worry I remember.” The boy gives me a small smile. I can’t tell if that’s sweet or just plain creepy. The car ride was quiet until Jihoon spoke up. “Why did you need to leave all of the sudden? It isn’t safe at this hour.” “Yeongue.” “Pardon?” I didn’t know what came over me but, I felt like I owed him the truth. “He doesn’t like being all alone at night. Our mom isn’t really home much cause of her job, so I take care of him.” I confess. “Wow, that’s really mature of you.” I chuckle to myself. “Thanks Jihoon.”
We finally reached my house. Jihoon pulled into my driveway and unlocked the door. “Uh, let me walk you to your door.” He speaks up. What, why is he being a gentleman all of a sudden. “It’s literally a 5 second walk from your car, it’s not like I’m going to jumped.” I try refusing the offer but he insists. “True, but who knows. I don’t want my dance partner to get hurt.” Aww, that’s kinda sweet. “Or else I’ll never hear the end of it from Mr. Yang and Herin.” I take that back. “Wow, thanks.” I rolled my eyes and got out of the car.
Jihoon and I walked towards my front door in silence. No, more like AWKWARD silence. Once we reached the front door the both of us awkwardly turned to each other. “Uh, so this’s me.” I say avoiding his gaze. “Yeah, guess it is.” Why is he acting all coy now? Like a minute ago he was insulting me. And they say girls are the confusing ones. I grabbed my keys from my bag and reached to open the door.
“Y/n! Thanks.” I turned to him in surprise. “Thanks? Thanks for what?” I raised an eyebrow. “I mean for listening to my ideas and with the mix.” Jihoon scratches the back of his neck avoiding my gaze. I stare at him blankly. Huh? Is he being grateful for once? And is he BLUSHING?! No, Y/n get a hold of yourself, he’d never. “No problem Ji.” I smile brightly. He shifted his gaze back to me, eyes lighting up like a puppy. Shit. The boy smiles back. His smile, why haven’t I noticed it before? “Ji, I like that nickname.”
The two of us stood there as if time stopped. It was just me and him, and for once I didn’t really mind the company. “FINALLY! You’ve been gone for so long- Oh. My. God, was I disturbing something?” Yeongue bursts through the door. Both of us jumping back from surprise. “WHAT NO! NOTHING WAS HAPPENING!” I scream. “EXACTLY! GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER GUE!” Jihoon screams. “Nothing would ever happen between us.” I huff. “Yeah.” Jihoon says with slight disappointment in his voice. I stepped into my house beside Yeongue. “Anyways, before we got RUDELY interrupted.” I nudge my younger brother. “I was going to say thanks for the ride.” I say growing quiet. “Anytime.” Jihoon replies. The tall boy turns around and walks back to his car.
“Are you sure~ nothing was happening between you guys?” Yeongue nudges. “Of course NOT! There was just an awkward silence between the two of us.” Yeah, that. Awkward silence. I looked over at Jihoon and sighed. Today wasn’t as bad with him by my side, it was kinda fun. I looked down and smiled to myself trying to keep my happiness to myself. But little did I know my brother notices this. “Hmmm, then you wouldn’t mind if he stayed over for dinner?” “Sure.” I accidentally let slip out. “Great! Oh Jihoon~” Wait. WAIT! “wAIT, I DIDN’T MEAN!” It was too late, my brother snatched the plastic bag full of ramen and ran over to the car. This little shit, I swear to God.
“Jihoon since you brought my sister home, I’d like to thank you by inviting you to have dinner with us.” Yeongue smiles with his eyes practically begging the older boy to stay. “Uhhhh.” He hesitates. Yes, please say no. “What about your mom, I’m sure she wouldn’t like a boy over this late.” He lets out. “Noooo, it’s fine moms not home anyways.” My brother counters. “I- what about your sister, she doesn’t seem to like me.” He glances at me, as I stick out my tongue. He chuckles. “Aww, common she’s always like that don’t mind her! Please stay it’ll be fun common, pLEASE!” Yeongue begs. I glance at Jihoon leaning on the door frame of my house. He seemed flustered at my brothers cuteness, I laugh to myself. No one can resist my brother cuteness. The boy thought about it for awhile, then finally gave in. “Sure why not.” Yeongue really owes me after this. I thought dragging my feet into the house. This is gonna be a long night.
I was currently in the kitchen cooking three packs of ramen I bought, while the two boys were in the living room chatting away with a movie played in the background. I boiled the water and placed the soup base along with the ramen. I sat on the counter watching the movie from the kitchen, sometimes glancing at my brother and Jihoon. I started thinking back to Yoonbin’s house. Man, I think that was the first time Jihoon and I really got along. I look towards the boy sitting on my couch, head facing the tv, once in a while turning to my brother, cracking a joke or two about how the movie was so cringe. He really knew how to treat my brother. I raised my hand to my cheek. Huh? Am I blushing? Park Jihoon what are you doing to me, I’m supposed to hate you. I shook the thoughts from my head and went back to cooking ramen.
“Ramens ready!” I yell bringing the pot to the coffee table, resting it on an oven mitt so the table wouldn’t burn. “Took you long enough.” Jihoon blurts out. “I’m sorry, lemme just tell the ramen to cook faster next time.” I say sarcastically. “Hey, be nice he’s a guest.” My brother glares at me. “hEy, He’S a GuEsT bE nICe, go get some bowls and chopsticks, will ya.” I mock. Yeongue reluctantly gets up and goes to the kitchen. “Hey, Jihoon you know you could’ve declined right?” I say sitting down beside him. “Hmm? Oh I know but, your brother was just so convincing, yaknow with his face.” He says waving a hand over his face, I chucked punching his shoulder slightly. The boy smiles running his hand through his hair. “Got the stuff.” Yeongue says placing the cutlery in front of us. “Alright let’s dig in.” I say sticking my chopsticks into the pot grabbing some ramen.
It was currently 1:25 am. The three of us finished the ramen and the movie. Yeongue was on the couch currently asleep, he didn’t finish the movie with us. While Jihoon and I were on the floor sitting. “Man I love this movie.” I yawn. “It’s alright.” Jihoon lets out. “What? Oh come on! This movie is so good! The way the main character and her crush got together was so cute! I pout. “Ok, fine I give, it was cute.” My eyes lit up as I smiled at him. “I can’t wait for the next movie, the guy from camp comes back.” I start to ramble, not noticing Jihoon staring at me, his cheeks turning a faint pink. “Hey, quiet down your brothers sleeping.” Jihoon cuts me off. Hmmm? “Oh crap right. How am I gonna get him to his room.” I questioned. “I mean I can carry him.” Jihoon suggests. “No, its ok you must be tired, I’ll do it.” I protest. I got up and hovered over my brother preparing myself to carry him to his room. I was about to pick him up when I felt a hand on my shoulder. “Don’t worry Y/n I got this.” He shoots me a reassuring smile. I took a step back and let him pick my brother. “Uh, follow me.” I slightly blush leading the boy up the stairs to Yeongue’s room.
After tucking my brother into bed we headed down stairs to clean up. “Thanks.” “No problem.” Jihoon says. I headed over to the living room to go collect the dishes left on the coffee table. “Hey lemme help, I help create this mess, so let me help clean.” Jihoon says taking the dishes and heading to the kitchen. “Whatever.” I roll my eyes trailing behind him. The two of us stood at the sink In silence washing the dishes, till I felt something wet on my face. I glared at the person next to me who was holding the detachable sink head while snickering. “Park. Jihoon!” I shout. He sprays me again. “Aye, shut up or you brother will wake up and think somethings going on between us.” He says smirking with his index finger over his mouth. I stared at the boy with rage in my eyes yet my face was flushed from his comment. “It’s so on Park!” I say grabbing a cup of water and throwing it at him.” And thus a heated water battle started. Puddles of water started to form on the kitchen floor, both of us running around the kitchen trying to avoid each other’s attacks.
*THUD* I slipped on one of the puddles of water, laughing my head off, while Jihoon came over to help me up. “Omg, Y/n are you ok!” He says while still laughing. “Yeah I’m fine just a little sore.” I look at him smiling. He stuck his hand helping me up. “I’m so screwed when my mom comes home to this mess.” I say looking around seeing water scattered all over the place. Jihoon chuckles, “Sorry about that.” He scratches the back of his neck with his other hand, as his other is still occupied with holding mine. Honestly, I didn’t really mind.
(Its really been a hot minute since I last updated this au huh? I took uploading once a year literally lmaoo anyways hope yall still like it -Bee🐝)

boyfriend!yoonbin dating a foreign girl
Tumblr media
okay so this is highkey a really soft!concept like wow thanks to the person that requested this <3 (i’m also so sorry that it’s very overdue :( i just moved into my college so i finally have time to be on tumblr so i’m back :))
genre: f l u f f
member: ha yoonbin x y/n (female)
how you met
okay so picture this
you’re a girl from (insert your native country)
and you moved to korea to follow your dreams of being a makeup artist
and you got hired to do the makeup for team b of ygtb
okay so that the backstory now’s the tea(???)
so on your first day, was when they filmed their intros and performances
amd you met all of team b
first being jihoon’s loud ass
your eyes immediately gravitate to yoonbin for some reason
maybe bc you thought he hated you bc of his glare
you just brushed it off and look at your schedule
guess who’s going first????
gueSS
diNg dinG dinGGG its yoonbin
wow what a great start
pls take my sarcasm lightly okay
anywAYs
so you call yoonbin over to your chair
he looks kind of tense
you noticed and asked if he was okay
he just nods showing no emotion
you just shrug and start doing his makeup
after you finish you were gonna ask if he liked it
but he just got uP AND LefT
like wHat?!
okay next was jihoon
i guess he saw that you looked upset or sad
so he asked what wrong
you tell him about yoonbin
and he says he’ll (jihoon) will handle it
and you get scared
like what does that mean
so as time goes on
filming is finally finished
you were that last person to leave
because you still had to pack your makeup
but you weren’t alone
ig yoonbin stayed behind to talk to you
bold = yoonbin, italics = you
“um, y/n”
“oh, yoonbin.. is everyting okay?”
“why do you keep asking that?”
“bc you seemed tense all day...”
“look i’m sorry if i make you uncomfortable but as your makeup artist-”
“no it’s not you”
“you’re,,,different”
ugh here we go
you’ve heard this all day
from producers, fellow makeup artists, stylists
it gets really annoying
“i mean, i’m the only non korean one here so thanks for pointing that out for the 100th time”
yoonbin eyes get wide
“wait no, not like that”
“i meant you seem cool”
“i would like to get to know you...”
so you’re like shOok
but you act cool and say “oh.. sure i’d like that”
after about a month of hanging out on the low
ya start dating the boi (aint the craz-)
dating
okay so first off
aesthetic pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
idk why but it seems like he would love to take some aesthetic ass pics of you man
like you’d be just about to pick up your coffee
and he’s like ‘STOP’
and youre like o.0
he’s like ‘your hand is positioned perfectly on the cup hold on’
like hUh
anywayyyyssss you love his lil beanies

you will become best friends with jihoon
whether you like it or not
he won’t give you a choice
and he will mess with you all the time
just like he does with yoonbin
poking you, flicking you, annoyingly calling your name
you name it
jihoon will do it
if you’re from a non-english speaking country
he and probably all of treasure 13 will love for you to teach him your language
i can just see them asking how to say everything lol
“y/n how do you say ___”
it’s cute and you’re glad they’re willing to learn your language
also i just feel like you guys can literally sit in a room together and just chill
like not even talking to each other
just chill
idk i’m whipped af for yoonbin man it’s michyeogane crazy

[1:18am] yoonbin holds your tiny hand as you browse through your notes, studying for your exam tomorrow.
after a few minutes, since you were into studying so much, you didn't notice yoonbin fast asleep in front of you.
you smile a little and caress his hand with your thumb, whispering
"thank you for keeping up with me everyday even if im always busy. i love you so much."

friends to lover with bestfriend!yoonbin
yoonbin x reader (y/n)
genre: fluff w bit of angst
warnings: not proofread oops
Tumblr media
(yoonbin celebrating being your lover!)
-
so as you read the title, yoonbin is your lover
and he’s more of a bestfriend type of lover, since he rlly liked the way you guys bonded
but he still decided to ask you out because now it means he can kiss u!
but we all wanna know how this happened right?
so let’s get started hehehehhe
so basically it was you fangirling over idols as you always did
nothing new
and yoonbin never seemed to mind it frankly because he knew you’d never meet those idols (how rude) even tho he has the biggest crush on you
but this time, it was different
it was a treasure 13 member
yoshinori!!!
one of his group mates!
and honestly, he felt attacked
he thought he was your bias ://
and he lowkey felt like yoshinori was competition now
ao things got awkward for yoonbin
he would always keep an eye on yoshinori during practice, trying to find what yoshi had that he didn’t
but luckily nobody noticed
until yoonbin tried to distance himself from you
which left you extremely confused??
and you tried talking to jihoon about it to see if you did anything in particular to set yoonbin off
but jihoon couldn’t think of anything either
and you knew how yoonbin was
so you didn’t wanna push him
you decided to give him some space and actually start ignoring him too
and that made yoonbin sad
even though it’s all his fault
and you guys didn’t talk to each other for a week
and that might not be a lot to some people
but it was like a drought to you guys
he tried talking to you at school
or through friends
but you wouldnt accept it
it hurt too much that yoonbin started distancing for no reason or so you thought
and yoonbin couldn’t handle it anymore so he decided to text you
(11:54pm) yoonben🤡: (y/n)
(11:57pm) yoonben🤡: (y/n) plss
(12:03am) y/n: so now you wanna talk to me??
(12:04am) yoonben🤡: please let me explain
so you did, you let him explain
he called you, and it was the first heart to heart you guys had in a while
and the call lasted like 3 hours
but is was worth it
because not only did you guys reconcile
but you both discovered that your feelings towards each other were mutual
and honestly you teared up a little
it was the softest you’ve ever seen yoonbin and it made your heart do a little jump
so you guys decided to meet up at the park the next day since it was already getting late
you went to bed that night, happy with a smile on your face
and when you woke up, it was the only thing you could think about the whole day
when the time came to go meet him,
you dashed out that door despite the fact that your eyes were puffy asf from the night before
lets just say you left your house single
but came back with a boyfriend ;)))
you changed his contact name from “yoonben🤡” to “binniee<3″
and although he pretended to cringe and hate it
you both know he loves it
when you go visit magnum while they’re practicing
he’s extra protective over you now
especially towards yoshinori
the poor kid doesn’t even know why yoonbin is so against him talking to you
but
end of story
thats how ben ha got you from liking him, to hating him, to loving him

27. “Kiss me.”
51. “You make me feel alive.”
genre: fluff
pairing: yoonbin x reader
a/n: hope u like it!!
requests: CLOSED
Tumblr media
it has been days since the night you and yoonbin fought. you have been staying at your parents place for the mean time, being grouchy and sad about the whole thing. you were currently in your balcony, staring at the scenery of han river in front of you. fumbling with the long black sweater that belonged to your boyfriend, yoonbin. you hear the sliding door open and you looked up to see your mom.
“are you okay, honey? you seem stressed out” your mom massages your shoulders soothingly. you held onto your mother’s hand lovingly,
“yeah, i guess so.. it’s just.. uh...” you couldn’t comprehend what you wanted to say. “is it you and yoonbin?” your mother guessed. you let out a big sigh,
“yeah. we aren’t on good terms at the moment and i don’t know anymore” you face palmed. your mom rubs your back,
“maybe you two just need some space for a while. his training life probably gets him stressed and this obviously couldn’t help him. just give each other space and it will just work out in the end. okay?” your mom advices. you smile at her,
“yeah.. i’ll do that” “that’s great then! i booked us an appointment at the spa in hongdae, you should get ready” your mom winks at you cheekily before letting you get dressed up for your girl time.
yoonbin seemed like he couldn’t get a hold of himself after that fight you guys had. he kept making mistakes after mistakes to the point even the others noticed something was wrong with him.
“break time!” hyunsuk yells out to the other trainees practicing. yoonbin was panting and was out of breath the whole time. “yoonbinnie, come here” seunghun called him. yoonbin stands up and brushes his messy hair and walked towards seunghun, and the other silver boys.
“what is up with you?” hyunsuk questioned.
“yeah, since yesterday you have been messing up the choreo and your performances. did you know how worried yeongue was the other day when you two had rehearsals?” byunggon adds on. yoonbin bit his lip and stared at the floor. he hears seunghun sigh,
“it’s about y/n isn’t it?” yoonbin snaps up the moment he heard seunghun mention your name. “knew it” jihoon mumbles.
“what happened? was it because of me?” junkyu raises his hand. yoonbin looks at him guiltily and nods.
“dude, i’m sorry. we were just playing around and i guess you had the wrong idea. sorry binnie” junkyu pouts.
“no, it’s my fault for lashing out my stress on her. it wasn’t your fault at all! i should’ve been more understanding. now i guess, i fucked up things between us” yoonbin looks down and plays with his fingers.
“aha! i know what to do!” yedam suddenly raises his voice. “why won’t you, surprise noona with flowers and gifts at her place” yedam suggests.
“oh shit you’re right!” yoonbin claps his hands. “that’s the spirit! go get your girl man!” hyunsuk hypes him up. yoonbin stands up and heads over to the comfort room so he could wash himself.
“that was amazing mom! thank you for planning this!” you hugged your mom after leaving the new spa in hongdae.
“no worries. anything for my baby girl. hope that relieved your stress” your mom smiles. “we should get going now” your mom checked her watch and called a cab for you two to head home.
arriving home, you and your mom were chatting about how you’re gonna deal with yoonbin.
“i dont know.. maybe i should’ve kept my distance between his friends you know? knowing that he’s gonna be jea–“ you stopped talking when you saw yoonbin stand up from your couch holding a bouquet of flowers and your favorite sweets. you whipped your head to your mom who looked clueless as well.
“well then, i’ll leave this to you guys” your mom winked before walking towards yoonbin and patting his back and walking to her room to give you guys privacy.
“hey” he mumbles, staring down at you. you couldn’t contain the blush that brushed on your cheeks. “w-what are you doing here” you stammered. yoonbin chuckles,
“getting my girl back, of course” he smiles at you. “you’re a dick you know that” you smacked him in the chest. he pouts, “yeah and i’m sorry. do you forgive me?” he hands you the bouquet and sweets.
“hmm, not quite” you tapped your chin. yoonbin almost drops the things he was holding after you said that. “what?!” he gasps.
“kiss me” you give him your heart eyes. yoonbin swore his heart almost jumped out of his chest. yoonbin carefully placed the flowers and sweet on the counter beside you guys. he grabbed your cheeks before pulling you into a soft kiss.
“you make me feel alive” he whispers before kissing your nose. “so are we okay now?” he pouts. “hm.. yes!” you giggled before attacking him into a big hug.
“don’t ever do that again or i’m literally gonna break up with you” you threaten. you see him visibly gulp. “yes ma’am” he stutters

Better With you
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: Cursing
Word count: 2.8k
Part 2
It’s been three weeks since Jihoon and I have talked after what happened at the dance studio, and we’ve been ignoring each other since.
I was listening to my usual Spotify playlist whilst doing my work, until I felt a tap on my shoulder. “Y/n.” I took my airpods out and turned around. “Hmm?” “You're wanted at the office.” Yeorum said. And with that, I got up and made my way to the office.
What is it now, I haven’t fought with Jihoon in like weeks, What does Mr. Yang want? I knocked on the door to his office. “Come in.” I entered his office and saw Jihoon sitting down in front of his desk and Herin beside our principal.
“Sit Ms. Kim.” I took a seat beside Jihoon. “Herin and I wanted to know how the duet was going, as the competition is taking place during the first week of next month.” Mr. Yang explains folding his hands on top of his desk. What the fuck. It’s been a month already?! And we’ve literally have nothing done. And like the next month literally starts after this week!? Ah, we’re screwed.
Jihoon was about to open his mouth when I cut him off. “Of course Sir, we’ve been practicing this whole month at the studio Jihoon has been taking us too.” I smile brightly ensuring our principal that everything was alright when in reality, it was more lies. “That’s great! I expect you two to show the dance team and I by the end of the end of this week.” He smiles back.
“You two are dismissed then.” The two of us got up and exited the room, and as I was closing the door I heard Herin say, “I told you they’d put their differences and come together.” Well we’re in shit now, aren’t we.
I was walking back to class when I suddenly get pulled into another part of the hallway. “Took some guts to lie to Mr. Yang huh?” I look up at the tall figure standing in front of me, Jihoon. “I mean, would you rather get kicked off the dance team?” I roll my eyes. “Touche.” He replied. “Exactly.” I turned around to go back to my classroom when Jihoon suddenly grabbed my arm and spun me back around.
“And where do you think you’re going?” “To class? where else?” “Y/n, seriously, we need to put our shit aside and work on this dance, we literally have a weeks till’ the competition and we are expected to perform it on Friday IN FRONT of the dance team and our principal!” Jihoon explains. I stare at the boy in front of me. Is he actually is serious? “Fine.” I give in and agree. “Good, meet me at my car in the parking lot after school.” “Whatever.” I say walking back to class. “Don’t be late!” He yells. I just wave my hand, without turning back to him.
~~~~~~
“Don’t be late my ass.” I mock. Where the hell is he?! I stood next to his car leaning on it slightly. “Ugh, I really trusted him didn’t I?” I groan. “Y/n!” I look up its Yeorum and my brother. “Hey Y/n, what are you doing? We have practice after school?” My friend questions. “Oh uh, I waiting for Jihoon.” I respond. “Ooo, you guys skipping practice to go out.” She wiggles her eyebrows, elbowing me, as my brother dies of laughter in the background.
“Hah, in your dreams, we’re going to practice our duet.” “Oh yeah! How's that going?” She questions. “HAH! my sister hasn’t met up with him in like-’’ I put my hand over my brother's mouth before he could reveal anymore. “Oh, it's uh, going fine we’re just polishing up the kinks that's all.” I lied again for like the second time today. “That's great, maybe on Friday, you can show the team?” She lights up.
“Uhhh, I don’t know….” “Oh, come on, I’m sure it's really good. Pleaseee.” She practically begs clinging to my arm. “F-fine.” Good fucking going Y/n you're screwed now. “YAY! Anyways practice is gonna start see you Friday.” Yeorum says as she skips back into the school building.
I felt something wet on my palm. “WHAT THE HELL!?!” I frantically remove my hand from Yeongue’s mouth. “What was that for you rat!” I scream. “That's for putting your crusty hand over my mouth!” He yells back. We exchanged death glares at each other. “Why did you lie to your best friend?” Yeongue questions.
“It’s what I told Mr. Yang and I intend to make what I said true.” I say proudly. “Hmm, bold of you to lie.” “Yeah, I’ve heard.” “Just please, do NOT tell anyone, I need you to keep this a secret, please.” I beg my younger brother. “Hmm,  lunch for a month.” “HELL NO!” “Fine, oH HERIN-” I cut him off. “Nggh, deal.”
“Now get your ass to practice.” I push him away from me. “Yeah whatever, see ya at home noona.” Man, I really hate how we are so alike sometimes.
 “Y/N!” Finally. “And what took you so long?” I stood up from leaning on his Audi. “I had to help Ms. Han, sorry now get in.” He confessed, taking his keys and unlocking his car. “Get in loser.”
~~~~~~
As usual, the car ride to the fancy dance studio was very quiet, so quiet we were able to hear people yelling from their cars because of the hourly rush from work. Then it was Jihoons turn to break the silence. “Soo....” He started off, just as how I did before. “How are gonna pull this shit show together?” “Uh, I don’t know, we like dance I guess.” I answer staring out the window. Does everything that comes out of my mouth have to be so sarcastic.
“Jheez, you didn’t have to say it like that.” Jihoon huffs.  And there goes our conversation. With that the car became silent yet again.
~~~~~~
JIHOONS POV
And once again Y/n and I were back at the modern dance studio we came to previously. We walked into the lobby and we were engulfed with the familiar sights we’ve seen about a few weeks ago, when I brought Y/n. I signal Y/n to go and wait while I booked us a room. I walked over to the front desk and was greeted by a familiar face. It was my cousin Jaehyuk.
“Hey, man.” I say as he and I exchanged a bro handshake. “Hey, Ji what brings you here, you rarely come anymore.” My cousin asks. “Ah, I’ve come to practice for our upcoming competition, and I’ve been swamped with work lately, sorry.” I explain to him opening the log book to sign under the room I wanted, or whatever’s available at the time. “Ah, well you should still come around to visit I am your cousin after all.” He teases. “And that’s the reason why I don’t come around.” My cousin shoots me a death glare, as I continue to sign my name in the book, giving zero fucks. A quick wave of awkward silence washes over Jaehyuk and I.
“Uh, are you here alone?” He attempts to break the silence. Oh yeah I’m with Y/n, lowkey forgot she was here for a bit. “Hmm, nah I’m with her.” I move to the side a bit to reveal Y/n, who is sitting on one of the couches distracted by her phone. I totally forgot who I was talking to until Jaehyuk spoke once again. “Dude, you’re with THE Y/n? Don’t you hate each other? But hey, at least your with someone for once cute.” I snapped back into reality. “What no, I mean yes, I’m with her, and yeah sure she’s cute, wait- I mean- shit SHUT UP WILL YOU!” I panic.
I scrambled over the counter to slap my hand over Jaehyuks mouth before he says another stupid thing. “Please, don’t say a word.” I remove my hand from his mouth, he leaned closer and whispered into my ear. “Don’t worry my dear cousin your secret's safe with me.” He grins. “Get your nasty ass away, as if I like her. This is literally the exact reason I don’t come anymore.”
Jaehyuk slouched back to his side of the desk. “Y/n go get ready, we’ll be in studio nine.” I tell the girl who was still sitting on her phone while that whole fiasco went down. “Took you long enough.” She complains. “Jesus, be grateful for once.” “Maybe I’ll try later.” She retorts going to the change room to get changed.
I watch Y/n as she walks past me and Jaehyuk, she’s so fucking ungrateful sometimes I hate it. But I guess she is kinda cute, she’s different, I guess. “She really is something isn’t she?” Jaehyuk comments when she’s gone. “Yeah, she really is.” I let slip out, again. Silence, shit I said that out loud didn’t I? Fuck. I turn towards my cousin creepily smiling at me, resting his head on his hands. “Oh shut up will you?” I yell, the redness evident in my cheeks. “I didn’t say jack shit.” “Well you were thinking shit.” I say pushing his face wiping that ugly smile off his face as I leave to get changed.
After changing I headed to studio nine where I heard the slight sound of music. Hmm I guess Y/n started without me, I peeked into the room and I see her dancing a lyrical piece to a song with a sick beat. You know what would go great to this song? Some hip hop moves, yeah some hip hop moves would go great to this beat! I smiled to myself thinking about a hip hop set that would go great to this piece. Wait that’s it!
Y/n’s Pov
I was dancing in the studio waiting for Jihoon, getting lost in the music when suddenly I hear someone rushing into the room breaking my concentration, already knowing who it is. “Jihoon how many times have I told you in the past to stop—” “Y/N I HAVE AN IDEA ON HOW WE CAN PULL THIS DUET TOGETHER!” Jihoon grabs me by the shoulder shaking me out of excitement. “Jesus- calm the fuck down and tell me!” I say, wanting him to stop shaking me.
Jihoon and I take a seat in the middle of the studio as he calms down enough to finally speak properly. “Ok , so I was coming into the studio when I saw you dancing, right?” I nod slowly. “And I was listening to the song while watching you dance and I thought that beat was sick and your lyrical style really went well to the beat.” “WAIT, wait you were watching me dance? Like from the door like a creep?” It’s not like I haven’t done that before. “That besides the point Y/n, my idea was: why not use the song add more cool beats, and combine our styles.” I thought about it for a minute. Wait, that shit might actually work. “Like ballet and hip hop, in the same piece?” I questioned.
“I know it's a long shot but why don’t we try to combine the styles we are both confident in, rather than bickering about which style to go with.” He mentions. I stayed silent, will we really be able to pull off a whole routine in four days, and perform it on Friday for our team to see? I mean why don’t we try? Since we don’t have any other good ideas.” I look up at the boy across from me, he looked desperate to make it work. “Fine, I’m in.” “Wait seriously? I-I thought you’d shut it down right away?” He looked appalled.
“I mean we don't have any other option do we? So why not try it out, you said the beats sounded sick no? And my dancing seemed to fit it, and with some other “cool beats” we’ll be able to incorporate hip hop right? I trust your judgement, I mean you're one of the best in our team right?” I accidentally blurt out loud. I frantically look at Jihoon to see his response, his mouth agape staring right back at me surprise written all over his face.
Jihoon shakes his head trying to snap himself back into reality. “Wait, wait did you just complement-” I cut him off before he could finish his sentence. “So how are we going to add these sick beats to the song you’re talking about?” Jihoon smirks and says. “Just leave that to me.”
And that's how we ended you in front of Yoonbins door. “Are you sure he’ll be ok with editing the song, I don’t wanna bother him.” I worry out loud. “Hah! You worrying for someone other than yourself, thats rich.” He mocks. “Do all the words that come from your mouth always have to be so rude?” I angrily stare at the dark haired boy standing next to me. He ignores my comment and raises his fist to knock on Yoonbins front door. There was a quick silence until the door opens revealing Yoonbin, who looked like he had just woken up from a nap, hair all over the place. “Why must you always disturb me when I’m sleeping?” Yoonbin says scratching the back of his head. “Sorry man, its kinda urgent can we come in?” Jihoon questions. “We?” They boy questions, as he looks to the right of Jihoon. I smile and awkwardly wave making my presence known. “Sure….” He trails off, receding back into his home with us trailing behind him.
“And thats are whole situation.” Jihoon explains while he lies on top of Yoonbins bed making himself comfortable, while I on the other hand, am sitting uncomfortably on his bed, as it is my first time in a guys room.
Yoonbin spins around in his swivel chair to face us resting his elbows on his knees, hands crossed trying to understand everything his best friends just told him. “So let me get this straight.” He starts off. “Y/n you LIED to our principal that you guys have a whole routine and is ready for our dance team to see this Friday? And you Jihoon want me to add some more rhythms to a song in order for you guys to create a dance too?” The both of us vigorously nod our heads. “And what genre of dance are you using? “Lyrical.” “Hip hop.” Jihoon and I state at the same time. “I- is that even gonna work?” Jihoon and I exchange glances and shrug. As the boy across from of us facepalms and sighs out of defeat.
 “I still don’t know why they entrusted rivals to create a dance for the competition that's NEXT week, just lemme hear the song and I'll see what I can do.” I handed my phone to Yoonbin and he hooks it up to his computer and listens to it. As the boy next to me browses his phone, while I just awkwardly sit there, staring at the floor.
Minutes pass as Yoonbin is busy working on the song while Jihoon, on the other hand was on his phone browsing instagram. He’s still using my phone so I have nothing to do, I adjust myself on Yoonbins bed to lean against the wall so I would have some form of comfort. Minutes turn into hours and I find myself slowly drifting to sleep.
Suddenly I’m disturbed by the bed rising on my left side. “Y/n wake up!” A voice yells. “Mmmm….” I respond half asleep. “Yoonbins done the track.” the voices whispers. This time snap awake, so quickly I didn’t get the chance for the figure to move out of the way before I bump into his head. “Oww! Excited much?” It was Jihoon rubbing his head, I do the same, we both get up and head where Yoonbin was seated. “Let’s hear it.” I exclaim leaning on the top of where the boy was sitting. He hits play and we listen to the new and improved track he made for us, after it was done playing he waits for our feedback. Not going to lie it was good, but not good enough, a little bit disappointed but it was something. I stare blankly at the screen thinking about what to about the track and so does my partner. “Somethings….. missing.” We both trail off.
“Move over.” Jihoon asks his friend, and he complies. As if Jihoon and I were in a trance we both sit down in front of the screen on the single chair unaware of how close we were. “You know what would sound better if the rhythm here was a bit slower to cater to my lyrical style of dancing, then it would transition into so heavier beats and rhythm to suit your style.” I start off. “Then we could transition into a rhythm that best suits both our styles and we can combine our styles from there.” Jihoon finishes my sentences. We both looked at each other excitement in our eyes as we started to work on the song. Unaware that Yoobin was still the room.
“If they wanted it a certain way they could have just done it themselves, instead of asking me to waste my time, ugh.” Yoonbin turns to leave his room, but stops in the doorway and turns back around to face us once again. “But at least they’re getting along for once.” He turns and exits his room with a slight smile on his face.
You tredge behind your group, worn leather boots silent despite the forest ground being covered in fallen branches and crunchy autumn leaves. Your calves are beginning to ache due to the steep incline.
“Y/N!” Jihoon calls back to you, “C’mon, catch up!” You cringe. His voice is startlingly loud in the cautious quiet you had fallen into since you got to the woods. The others whip towards him and shush him.
Yoonbin is behind the group as well, but still several paces ahead of you. He turns and gives you a meek smile. Despite the pulse of pain going down your leg, you return his smile. He falls behind until he’s walking next to you. His presence is familiar, calming.
“We’re almost there,” he says, taking your hands in his. “Hyunsuk says it should be just over this hill.”
You nod, relieved. Your group had been walking through this forest all day. You first left camp at the crack of dawn. The sun was just rising over the far horizon, it’s orange and gold rays threatening to spill over the edge of the world. Now, it was behind you, and you were afraid that it would set before you made it to the new community.
If there is a community at all, that is. It was, of course, only a rumor. A rumor that had been passed on from person to person for who knows how long. Realistically, it could have gone down months ago and no one would have really known it.
You were so preoccupied in your thoughts that you didn’t noticed you were on the top of the hill until you bump into Doyoung. He doesn’t care, his eyes fixed on the land below the hill.
“It’s real,” he says, his voice nothing more than a soft whisper. “It’s actually real.”
You look up and your breath leaves you. At the bottom of the hill, there was a community. From this angle, you could see dozens of buildings, with up to three storeys. You could see a large patch of green, which you could only assume was a garden. All of this was surrounded by two rows of barriers — concrete, then wire fencing. It was an impressive setup.
You were was close enough that you could see a few people walking around, so small they could have been ants.
Behind the wire fence, patrolling the entrance attached to a rough, narrow road, were armed guards. There were three from what you could see.
One of them— a man, you could tell— froze when he saw your group. Even from this distance you could see his rifle shift in his hand. Yoonbin, noticing this at the same time as you, quickly lifted his hand in the air, a signal of goodwill. A moment passed and you held your breath.
You didn’t know these people. You didn’t know what they were like. It was a stupid idea, you thought, to go into the community head-on, completely blind. You should have scouted the place first, before you made your presence known.
You curl your fingers around the bottom of Yoonbin’s black windbreaker and are just about to pull him away when the man lifts his hand in return.
The boys around you grin. They start heading down the hill towards the tall fences.
Yoonbin looks at you, amused at your hand still on him. “Hey, it’s gonna be fine” he says calmly, seeing your frown.
You chew your lip, anxiety creeping up your neck. “What if it’s not?”
He rubs your arm softly, trying to calm you down. “Then we get out of there. If anything happens, or we sense that something’s off, we leave.”
You stare up at him, eyebrows creasing. “You say that like its easy.”
His smile is gentle, but his voice is only mildly exasperated. “Y/N.” He kisses your forehead. You close your eyes and lean into his touch. “We dont know what it’s like until we go there and find out. If we need to leave, we’ll find a way out. We always do.”
You nod into the curve of his neck, mumbling an “okay” into his jacket.
Together, you make your way down the hill.
When you get to the gate, the man from before meets you at the entrance. You’re shocked at how young he is. From up close, you can tell that he was only around your age, maybe a year or two older. You were expecting a man far older than you. For some unknown reason, the sight of someone in their youth patrolling an area with a weapon still shocked you, despite being nearly a year and a half into the apocalypse.
He approaches your group cautiously, rifle in hand. “Here for sanctuary?” he asked.
“Yeah,” Hyunsuk answered, stepping forward.
He frowns, looking your group over. You suddenly feel insecure.
You knew that your camo pants were splattered in mud and was stained in blood no matter how hard you scrubbed. Your face was probably covered in sweat and dirt and blood. You also knew that everyone else in your group looked like that, too. You probably looked like a group of frenzied children who had been living in the woods for years, away from modern civilization. In a way, you kind of were.
This boy, on the other hand, could have passed for a completely normal kid, if it weren’t for the bulletproof vest and gun in his hand. You could tell that his clothing was decently clean. The only scuffed up part of him was his combat boots, worn for months, probably, and covered in blood and mud. At least you had that in common.
But he seemed completely unfazed by your appearances, rather taking in your statures, the way you all stood with your shoulders barely touching, the way your hands rested on the handles of your weapons, ready to jump to action the second it called. The way you glanced at one another, reading one another’s expressions with ease.
You thought you saw him nod in approval. Maybe he’d been there, too— once a part of a group who had been through hell together, quite literally. Who supported and protected each other no matter what.
“Alright, then.” He gestured to the other guard. She was tall with short cropped blonde hair, a mean scar running down her throat. She eyed them suspiciously, but helped him pull the fence aside. “Come on in. I’m Junkyu, by the way. We have safety precautions we have to follow before you enter the community.”
“Like what?” Yoonbin asks.
Junkyu doesn’t answer. He leads you through the entrance. In the middle of the concrete wall is a single heavy metal door. As he approaches it, it buzzes, and he swings it open. He holds it, waiting for you to move.
Everyone is visibly hesitant. You chew your lip nervously, your hand gripping the knife strapped to your thigh. Hyunsuk strides forward, trying to look as confident as possible, and goes in first. The rest of your group follows.
As you walk through the door, you make eye contact with Junkyu. He smiles kindly.
On the other side of the wall, the sun seems to shine brighter. Maybe it was just you, but the colours looked more vibrant, and you could hear distant chatter and laughter.
A man approaches you, far older than Junkyu. “Weapons before entering.”
You look at him incredulously. “You’re taking our weapons?” You exclaim.
”Those are the rules.”
Junkyu is beside the man now. “In order to keep the citizens of our community safe, all weapons are prohibited. We’ve had too many incidents where fights break out between armed men, and you know how they always end. Nothing personal.”
“Hyunsuk?” Jihoon says. You will only follow those rules if Hyunsuk says to.
After a moment of thought, he sighs. He begins unstrapping his holster. “Their community, their rules.”
Mildly disappointed, you take off your weapons. All you had on you was your pistol and a combat knife. You handed that over. After they passed a metal detector over you, you were deemed “clean” and allowed to pass through the final gate. You waited for the others.
You felt naked and vulnerable without your weapons. You were now faced with the fear that if anything were to go wrong, you didn’t have anything on you to defend yourself. Except maybe your belt, and that was a big maybe.
And, of course, your group. You, Yoonbin, Hyunsuk, Jihoon and Doyoung. You could protect each other. It was times like this, you realized, that having strong bonds with the people around mattered the most. This eased your mind.
You watched in amusement as Yoonbin proceeded to basically empty his pockets of weapons. The semiautomatic strapped to his back came off first, then the machete on his chest. He pulled his holster off, containing his pistol, then fished his combat knife out of his boot. Finally, then came the derringer. He placed it all on the table, and stood beside you.
You hear the metal detector go off.
Jihoon smiles nervously at the young girl with the detector, who gives him an exasperated look.
“All of your weapons, please and thank you.”
“Would you believe me if I told you they put metal in my hip when I was a baby?”
“No, I wouldn’t.” She says. When Jihoon does make a move to remove whatever it is that set off the device, she stares him down. Despite being a head smaller than him, her eyes could pierce.
“Fine, it’s my belt!!” Jihoon exclaims. He lifts up his jacket to reveal a thick chain wrapped in his belt loop. “It’s literally just a belt.”
“Take it off!”
“If you want me to undress for you, you could just ask.” Jihoon flirts back.
She is clearly unimpressed. With one hard stamp of her metal-toed boots, Jihoon yelps and clutches his foot. Finally, he unwraps the chain. Turns out, the chain was very long, maybe three feet in length, and very much a weapon. He drops it in her hand.
He sheepishly shrugs at you, and you roll your eyes.
“Okay! I’ll give you the grand tour.” Junkyu suddenly appears at your side, gesturing outwards.
You swallow the hard lump in your throat and follow him. There was no turning back now.
As a person who enjoyed spending time with their friends and getting new experiences, it wasn’t at all surprising that you had such an affinity for the carnival that came to your city once a year for a week in the summer. Ever since you were old enough to know about its existence, you’d whine and complain until someone would take you there for a minimum of two of those days. Things hadn’t really changed too much since then, only that now you were older and it didn’t take adult supervision for you to be allowed to spend almost the full week down at the carnival with your friends.
In this sense, you always saw yourself as immensely lucky for finding a friend like Jihoon. He loved the things you disliked about the carnival; he basked in the sheer amount of noise coming from the different attractions and he found some kind of pure enjoyment from the slow shuffling of the crowds around him. But, most importantly of all, he was always willing to spend as much time as you wanted to there, which generally resulted in the two of you dragging more of your verging on unwilling friends to spend the full week in the business of it, too.
The carnival would start on the first Monday of the third week into your summer break from school, and end on the Sunday following. The memories that came with the carnival were one of your favourite things about it, both making them and getting to remember some of the moments you’d forgotten about in the stress that came with your daily schedule of classes. Last summer had been one of your favourites of them all, mostly because you adored the moments where you and Jihoon got the chance to have a meaningful conversation.
And, if you were honest with yourself, maybe the conversation you’d had with Jihoon as the carnival closed on the final Sunday was what made the trepidation and desperation for this week to be as childish and untouched as all of the others so prevalent for you. The sky was getting to be a deep blue by the time you’d both finally began to drag yourself in the directions of your homes, the smell of cotton candy and popcorn still lingering on the both of you as you spoke quietly about future plans. In the moment that you turned onto your street, Jihoon’s arm thrown across your shoulder as he grew quieter, doe eyes catching yours as he mumbled something you almost didn’t hear, you’d sworn to yourself that these moments were something you truly didn’t want to stop having.
“I don’t wanna grow up and apart from you guys,” he’d said softly, and when you’d stopped by your front door to ask him what that meant, he’d simply shrugged. “Every adult seems to just, give up on having close friends. I’m scared, you know, that we’ll all be like that.” He hadn’t given you much chance to respond before he’d insisted on being home on time, ruffling your hair before offering you a quick, “At least we’re always gonna have the carnival, huh?”
As cliché as you realised it was, you’d clung onto that sentiment, especially as the fear grew within your chest over this year’s carnival. It was, as you had to accept at some point, the last one you were all going to be able to spend together before you had to get serious about your futures. Jihoon and more of your friends were going to be idols, you had full faith in that, and some more of your friends were going off to further their educations, or to travel. It didn’t matter, really. Things were moving forward and this was the moment you’d been building yourself up to.
You tightened your grip around the water bottle in your hand, eyes glassing over slightly as you stared at the park’s table, the resounding sound of Doyoung’s voice hitting your ears. “After all these years, you’re still allergic to the idea of fun?”
You heard Yoonbin scoff, your eyes already moving to narrow at him, knowing he’d be expressing his distaste for the carnival week as he always did on the countdown before. “It’s not even that great,” he shrugged, “it’s just, a street with a lot of noise on it.”
“Uh,” you heard your friend who was planning to leave and travel the world as soon as the carnival week was up, Lisa, begin, “there’s rides, so your point isn’t valid.”
You laughed softly, watching as Yoonbin glared over at you, “I don’t know what you find so funny.”
Shrugging, you set the water bottle down onto the surface of the table, “I don’t know why you always come if you hate it so much.”
His eyes narrowed even further at you, his expression turning into a full scale scowl as he rolled his eyes at you, “It’s not like I have much choice. If I didn’t show up, Jihoon would come and make me, so, my options are limited, aren’t they?”
You couldn’t really think of a response to that, you knew he was actually right in this instance, but his constant onslaught of negativity made your built-up anxiety for this week to elevate. Part of you wanted Yoonbin to never talk to you, because it seemed he couldn’t say a single word to you without sarcasm and cynicism dripping from his tone – but the other part of you knew he wasn’t like that, not really. He’d only shown you the nicer side of himself once, as you supposed you had done the same with him; when he’d accidentally walked in on you crying in a bathroom at a party because you’d seen the boy you liked kiss someone else, and he’d dropped himself to sit beside you on the floor and let you cry on his shoulder until you were ready for him to walk you home.
Maybe you had a slight affection for him because of that, maybe you just thought he was nice to look at, but whatever the feeling was didn’t matter; he was uninterested in anything to do with you unless it was the two of you digging at one another until one of your friends interrupted. Strangely, the tension between the two of you had never caused much more than a layer of comical annoyance to build in your friendship group, which, even more irritatingly so, was entirely and irreversibly conjoined.
From the moment Jihoon had met Yoonbin and Doyoung, he’d dragged them into your friendship group, giving you no chance to get away from him since. When you thought about it, you didn’t really know who started the arguing in the first place, but you put the blame onto Yoonbin. Glancing back over at him, you saw he was occupied in a conversation with Jihoon, and you took the small space of time to admire him quietly. If he treated you like he treated all your other friends, you assumed you’d probably have one of those classic school-girl crushes on him. Because, as you had to consistently remind Lisa, you didn’t, under any circumstances, have any form of feelings towards him currently other than the irritation that he seemed to detest you for an unknown reason.
You felt an elbow dig into your side, and you turned your line of sight over to Lisa sat beside you, her eyebrows raising at you as she followed your previous vision to Yoonbin. You bit back a laugh as you lightly smacked her arm, “No, stop it,” you grumbled, attempting to make your moodiness seem convincing.
Lisa’s laugh met your ears as she rose to her feet, you following suit as everyone else seemed to be doing the same. Jihoon knocked his shoulder into yours as he fell into to walk beside you, “So, we’ve got two hours before it opens, I’m thinking we should spend it at my house this year.”
///
You groaned as you lay sprawled out on Jihoon’s bed, your fingertips stretching out above your head to ever so slightly brush one of the plushies placed neatly on the made sheets. You’d spent the last two hours re-watching a movie you’d both seen a million times by now, and now you were waiting around for him to finish up picking a jacket so you could finally leave to go get your other friends and get to the carnival.
“It’s literally just a jacket, Jihoon, you’re not even gonna need one.” You grumbled, pulling yourself to sit up, your shoe-clad shoes tapping against the floor of his room.
He hummed, yanking an old blue hoodie off a hanger in his closet, “The temperature drops as the sun goes down, doesn’t it? And who’ll be warm and toasty in a nice cosy jacket when the happens?”
You shrugged, lips curling into a mock frown, “Not with this much global warming it won’t.”
“Ah,” Jihoon began, shutting his bedroom door behind the both of you on the way out, “that’s an intelligent point, well done.”
A laugh past your lips as he followed you downstairs, your hand curling around the handle of the front door, pulling it down as you looked back to catch his eyes, “Thank you, I try.”
The walk to gather your friends individually was tedious, and completely unnecessary in your mind, you didn’t understand why you couldn’t all just meet at the actual carnival, but you did it anyway. By the time Yoonbin joined the group, a surge of nerves ran through you, unsure of whether or not he’d end up bringing the mood down this time, even if he’d never done it before. You found yourself slipping into silence over most of the walk, focusing instead of looking over at each of your friends to see their bright grins – your eyes lingered on Yoonbin for a moment too long, seeing him wrapped up in a seemingly idyllic moment, a smile that went all the way to his eyes lighting up his features as he walked slightly ahead of you.
Reaching the beginning of the carnival street, you felt yourself tense just slightly at the sight of the forming crowds, reaching over to curl your hand into Jihoon’s. He noticed, squeezing your hand once as he tugged you as close to him as the heat would allow, “I’m right here, okay?”
You looked over at him, feeling your heart tighten a little at the words, a nod moving from your body before you could begin to form a comprehensible sentence to him. Multiple voices met your ears at once, some from the crowd of people around you and others – the more intelligible ones – coming from your friends asking where you were all going first. Doyoung wanted to go to the Ferris wheel, as he did every single year. The lack of any other ideas meant you were all in agreement, heading straight over to the line, still short as more people began arriving after the opening.
“Yoonbin? You not coming?” You heard Doyoung say as you reached the line, looking over to see Yoonbin stood outside the line’s railings.
He shook his head, “This one’s boring, I’ll sit it out.” You rolled your eyes at him, watching his eyes narrow at you as you did.
As usual, you went to pair yourself with Lisa, as Jihoon and Yedam kept up their tradition of going on the Ferris wheel together every year. Except, as you turned to stand beside her, you found yourself floundering, unable to spot the girl amongst the boys in your friendship group. The front of the line was growing closer, causing bouts of panic to move through you as you turned to Doyoung, “Where did Lisa go?”
“She said she wanted to go grab candy for all of us before the line got long, remember?” Doyoung informed, tilting his head at you as the final pair in front of you joined. In general terms, you were sure if you were insistent the man controlling the ride would probably let you go on by yourself, but you both didn’t want to be alone on it, and you highly doubted you had it within you to be pressing enough. It was always the same unspoken rules at the carnival, every single year, most rides you had to go on in pairs because it got too busy and they didn’t have enough people working it otherwise.
The man with the carnival work shirt on rose his eyebrows at you, gesturing forward as you stepped passed the gate, seating yourself in the cart as anxiety made your stomach turn flips. You breathed in sharply, feeling the man look from you back to the line, “Who are you riding with?”
You stuttered slightly, mouth unable to form words as the idea of holding the line up began to bite into you. Your eyes fell to the floor as you struggled to find anything to say, imagining the scenario of how embarrassing it would be to get kicked off the first ride in the day in front of everyone.
You heard a deeper voice interrupt the tense silence, “Sorry, sorry, I had to stop to tie my shoelace, I’m with her.”
Glancing up from where you’d been tapping your foot against the metal frame underneath you, you saw Yoonbin had push himself into the line, and was raising his eyebrows at the man expectantly. The man sighed, “Alright, okay, go ahead.”
Yoonbin dropped to sit beside you, sighing slightly as he did so, reminding you ever so slightly of how warm he’d been next to you that night at the party. You felt the blush underneath your cheeks keep their place, embarrassment at him making fun of you for this digging into your skin as the bar was placed down in front of you both. The wheel began to turn again, and you kept your eyes everywhere except for falling to him.
He scoffed under his breath, “Not even a thank you?”
You wanted to narrow your eyes at him, tell him you didn’t ask him to do that for you, but you couldn’t quite find the burn to do so. It wasn’t like either of you were going to be seeing much of each other after this summer came to a close anyway. “Thank you,” you said softly, not looking away from the view beneath you.
“Whatever,” he grumbled, slumping himself back slightly in the cart as it continued to move, stopping occasionally for people at the bottom to get on and off. As you reached the top, you felt yourself pull in a pointed breath, seeing the buildings and people spread out in front of you. The sight made you both nostalgic and slightly sad, remembering all the different things you’d done and experienced in the town with your friends and by yourself. The swarm of memories made your eyes glass over with a thin layer of tears, and you used your index finger to swipe it away as casually as you could.
You felt Yoonbin’s eyes on you, making you keep your vision focused away from him even more intently. “Are you, okay?” You heard him ask quietly, and you nodded immediately in response, not trusting your voice to remain even as you didn’t look at him.
He didn’t speak again. Neither did you. Your cart reached the bottom again as you both got off, and you found your feet rushing ahead of him to reach your other friends. Lisa was grinning at you as you reached her, probably thinking of a way to tease you about Yoonbin as you forced a childish giggle past your lips in retaliation. The feeling that was pressed to you now would fade, you knew that; it would fade because your friends would give you something else to think about, as they always did.
Yoonbin re-joined the group along with you, his eyes not leaving your form as he ignored Jihoon’s small tease of, “I thought you found Ferris wheels boring?”
The rest of the day didn’t grow boring, it never did, but it did fill you with a sense of nostalgia and a dulled down version of panic. The crowds and noise surrounding you, for once, causing you no anxiety, your mind too consumed with being as completely in the moment with your friends around you as possible.
“Now that it’s getting slightly darker,” you heard Jihoon begin, your eyes shifting to look up at the sky, which had fallen from the bright blue it had remained all day to a muted version of itself.
Yedam scrunched his face up in slight confusion, “It’s not dark at all.”
Jihoon shushed him, turning back to face everyone else as a grin took over his features, “Now that it’s getting darker,” he began again, “I think it’s time we went to the haunted house.”
The group had mixed reactions then, some of them groaning in protest to the familiar visit, and others beaming at the idea of the excitement it brought with it. A bright laugh made you all turn to Lisa, who grinned over at you before speaking, “I think, we should do it, but, we should pick each other’s partners for it.”
You felt your stomach drop immediately, your eyes falling on Yoonbin before you glared over at Lisa, hearing the rest of the group laugh in agreement. The immediate idea between all of them, of course, was that Yoonbin and you would go in together last, to make sure the tension was really built up. Even through your attempts to not spare Yoonbin a single glance, you found yourself cautiously observing him for a visible reaction, seeing him furrow his brows before going to interject on the plan. He was immediately silenced by Junkyu beside him, who nudged him with his elbow lightly and said something you could only imagine was related to loosening up and having fun.
Time seemed to blur in front of you as the pairs in front of you both went in and came out, either complaining that it wasn’t scary enough or that it was too much. In all honesty, you wished you could just have a normal haunted house, like amusement parks had, where you could go in, walk through a hallway and maybe up and down a flight of stairs while things jumped out at you. But, as always, things couldn’t be exactly as you wanted them, that was far too selfish of you to assume. Instead, you had to go room by room to find some form of amusement from the building, getting jump-scared by different things in each. You reached the front, your worry for this day having been forgotten and turned over into annoyance with your friends for making you do this.
Yoonbin was tensed up beside you, and you wondered for a second if he was scared to go into the haunted house, but you doubted it, he’d never been particularly scared of them in the years before. You were gonna make the assumption that it was because he had to go in with you. You reached the front with him, watching as he told the person taking the money that you didn’t need the rules explaining to you before you headed inside.
The first two rooms passed by in a relative blur, although you’d decided after a couple minutes of entering the house that you should count every single time Yoonbin scoffed or rolled his eyes at either you or the concept. You headed back into the hallway from the second room, the lighting making you stumble slightly, knocking your knee against the side of a bookcase as you turned too quick, hissing slightly in pain. You heard Yoonbin mumble something underneath his breath, walking past you to go to the third room, and you wondered if you should class that as a scoff. You decided to go on the safe side and add it to the list, knocking the count up to seven.
Passing the doorframe to get into the room seemed like a mistake as soon as you did it, hearing the door slam behind you as you jolted in surprise. “Seriously? You come here every single year for seven days and that still scared you?” You heard Yoonbin dig, making you glare over at him as your shoulders tensed in aggravation.
“It’s not my fault you’re so robotic that loud noises don’t phase you,” you huffed, feeling the sting in your knee from earlier still running through you as you wanted this walk through to be finished as soon as possible. “Why are we even going to the rooms if you don’t wanna be in here?”
He blanched for a second, glancing around before he lifted his shoulders in a dismissive shrug, “Fine, let’s just go to the exit.”
Yoonbin took a confident step forward to go past to you as the projector switched on, the twisted image of a woman screaming being put onto the blank wall in front of you. This drew little to no reaction from either of you, the both of you knowing from past experience that this happened in the third room. He didn’t pause his movements for very long, taking another step past you and reaching for the handle of the door, tugging it on roughly, pulling it back. The door didn’t budge, however, and he retried the action of pulling it back a couple more times as his moves grew vaguely frantic at the lack of a result.
You stepped forward, peering around his frame to see what was happening as he began to push on the door, checking to see if this did anything different. He turned back to glance at you as nothing happened once again, seeing a look of panic gather on your features as he knocked on the wood surface of the door a few times, hearing a patter of footsteps approach from the other side.
The door handle moved as the person from the other side evidently attempted to open it, seeing it keep to its closed place. Loud banging sounds moved through the space of the room that felt as though it was beginning to grow smaller, before everything went back into silence, your eyes going back to the where the projected image had been, having been turned off and reset for the next lot of guests now.
From inside the room, you could hear what sounded like fragments of a conversation, leading you to assume whoever was running the haunted house was radioing someone else. A muffled voice cut into the atmosphere a few drawn out seconds later, “Uh, okay, so, we’re gonna get some help to get the door open because it’s, well, it’s snapped, somewhere, our apologies. Is everybody okay in there?”
You watched with your bottom lip between your teeth as Yoonbin glanced back over at you, “Yeah, we’re fine, just, how long is it gonna take? To get the door open?”
You heard more indistinct radio chatter before the voice spoke again, “Not long, not long, we’ve just gotta get some tools to pry it open, you know, so, maybe, about half an hour.”
The answer both relieved you and caused a large bout of panic to go through you again. Half an hour, realistically, wasn’t that great a period of time, and so you wouldn’t be trapped in a confined dark space with a boy who hated you for very long. But this also meant that things weren’t going to go to plan with your friends, and now this would probably ruin the haunted house for the rest of the week, and that would mean you wouldn’t be able to go through it with Jihoon or anyone else again before Sunday. The idea filled your chest with a desperate and dramatic need to sit down and cry, but you knew that wasn’t an option for right then. You zoned yourself out as Yoonbin answered a couple more questions from the other person, lowering yourself to sit on the cold wooden floor of the room, leaning yourself back against the wall and tucking your knees to your chest.
Leaning your cheek down onto your knees as you sighed softly, you heard heavy footsteps approach your spot as Yoonbin lowered himself to sit beside you. The odd reminiscence from earlier became a full blown repetition of that night at the party, and you would have wanted to laugh if the fear within you wasn’t so great. You could see, out of the corner of your eye, that Yoonbin had looked over at you, and was most likely feeling irritation with you build up for being petty enough to blatantly ignore him in a situation like this.
You felt a burst of courage move through you as you glanced over at him, watching as his eyes immediately met yours. Tilting your head at him as much as space would allow with your head pressed to your legs, you heard him speak softly, “It’s not that long,” he began, “you don’t need to be scared, I mean. It’s only half an hour.”
The slight tilt of concern in his voice made you wonder over him more so than usual, trying to understand why he acted the way he did with you and no one else. Despite yourself, you let yourself smile softly at him, “I’m not…I’m not scared, but thank you, anyway.”
He nodded slowly, but his gaze stayed locked on yours, “Can I ask you a question?” He inquired quietly, his voice dropping to almost a whisper as you heard a collection of footsteps outside the room again.
The adjusting sound of metal tools and people speaking met your ears as you responded at the same volume as he’d spoken, “Sure, why not.”
The ghost of a smile tugged at his lips before he spoke again, “What have you been thinking about today?”
Caught of guard by the suddenness of his question, you recoiled a little, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. “I…what, like, do you want a cohesive list of everything I’ve thought about today?”
A breathy laugh passed his lips before it turned into a light scoff, “No, I mean, you know, I want, I wanna know what’s been bothering you today.”
“Oh,” you began, losing eye contact with him as you attempted to think of whether or not you’d been too obvious with what had been going through your mind all day, “was it…obvious, like, was I acting weird?”
He shook his head quickly, “No, I, I just noticed on the Ferris wheel and, you know, couldn’t not see it after that.”
At this, a slight wash of relief came over you before you began thinking of what to say. You presumed that you should probably lie to him, his sudden interest in knowing what was going through your mind was something you assumed you should see as a warning sign for something. But you didn’t particularly want to. And, in an unexplainable way, you somehow felt that there would be an understanding of the feeling if you told Yoonbin, of all people.
“I just, I don’t know, I want this week to be perfect, for everyone.” You answered simply, watching as Yoonbin looked at you quizzically, urging you to keep talking. You found yourself without words again, dropping eye contact with him as thoughts swarmed around your mind again.
“Why’s this week so important?” He pushed gently, attempting to ease you into giving him more of an answer.
You swallowed thickly, “Because, you know, it’s like, the last summer we’re all gonna be together for the carnival.” When you finally said it, the idea of your fixation on it seemed impossibly childish and overdone.
Yoonbin moved to turn his body towards you, watching as you sceptically mirrored his action, your knees pressing against his. “So, what’s the importance of the carnival? Did I miss something in the weeks I’ve spent here?” He joked lightly, making a small bubble of confusion move through you, unsure of where this sudden personality change had come from.
The smallest of laughs passed your lips as you shook your head, “It’s, we’ve just spent every summer here since we were little kids, right? And now, well now everyone’s moving on, and we’re…we’re not gonna spend every summer here anymore.” You mumbled, your eyes glazing over slightly as you grew flustered at your own sensitivity to the subject, looking down to the floor.
Yoonbin tilted his head at you, letting you know he evidently had more questions to ask, “I mean, this might be the last summer we’ll spend at this god awful carnival,” he began, a laugh moving past the lump in your throat and into the air around you as he smiled for a moment. “But it’s not like we’re never gonna see one another again. We’ll all still be best friends.”
A tear slipped its way down your cheek as you looked back at him, “That’s what everyone says, and then they leave and stop talking to one another anyway.”
Shaking his head, Yoonbin pulled his hoodie to cover his thumb and leant forward to swipe the tear off your face. “None of us want that, though, so it won’t happen.”
His assurance made you tilt your head at him, “You don’t know that.”
He shrugged lightly in response, breathing out a laugh, “You can’t know much about the future, though, can you? I know that I’ll do what I can to not let that happen, and that’s all that matters.”
This made you smile softly before the slightly bitter realisation that the people he was referring to as his friends didn’t extend to you. You’d expected things to change after that night at the party, you’d assumed you’d both be fine with one another, and that because he’d been so kind then he’d be like that with you afterwards. He hadn’t been. Another moment like that wasn’t likely to cause much more of a change.
“You know,” you began carefully, reaching to knock his hand just slightly with your own, “I think, one day in the far future when you’re married and you have kids and the perfect life created for yourself, you’re gonna remember me, and you’re gonna miss me, so much.” You mumbled, almost to yourself.
Yoonbin wanted to recoil, to be visibly angry with the notion that he’d even be able to forget you of all people in the first place. But he couldn’t really say your perception of how he felt towards you was an unjustified one. “I’m…I know I will.”
You linked your pinkie with his in a rush of confidence, “Can I ask you a question now?” He nodded, glancing down at your interlocked pinkies as you began speaking, “Why do you hate me so much?”
He shut his eyes tightly, hearing Doyoung’s voice when he’d told him that this situation would happen eventually. “I don’t hate you, ___, I really don’t.”
Humming softly, you rephrased your question, “Why are you always so angry with me, then?”
At this, he smiled a little, “Do you remember when we got like this?” His voice had dropped back to a whisper, watching as you shook your head, curiosity lighting up your eyes in the dark. “I didn’t think you did,” he sighed softly, dropping his head back for a minute before he started talking again, “I…I met you all with Doyoung for the first time, right? And, okay, look, I know I always look like I’m constantly angry but…I’m really not, and I guess, I guess you thought I didn’t like you, so you started making these little offhand comments…” he let himself trail off, wincing softly as you sat yourself up properly, your hand slipping away from his.
He wondered if he should apologise for telling you, but you interrupted him, “I’m sorry,” you started, “oh my god, that was so mean of me. I’m…Yoonbin, I’m really sorry.”
Laughing a little, he didn’t move from his place, “It’s okay, really, it is, I…I took it too far, really. I shouldn’t have kept acting like that when you stopped retaliating. I just, I don’t know, felt like I had to.”
At this, you tilted your head at him, “Why would you have to?”
Yoonbin cleared his throat, glancing over at the door where the noise had gone silent at some point during your conversation, although it remained closed shut. “I…okay, this sounds bad, so hear me out,” he started, “but that night at the party, I followed you upstairs, because I, well I knew you liked that guy, and I’d seen him kiss someone else, so I was gonna, I was just gonna talk to you about how I, about how I’d kinda liked you for a little while…” he paused for a moment, as if trying to check your reaction. “But, you were so upset, and it didn’t feel like the right time.”
He watched as your face morphed from one of confusion into slightly comical shock, “Do you still feel like that?”
Yoonbin smiled a little, “Yeah,” he kept your eye contact, “I haven’t dealt with this very well, have I?”
A laugh moved from your lips, “No, not really, but it’s okay,” you rose your eyebrows at him, “go on, ask what you really want to.”
Yoonbin shook his head at you, “I don’t expect an answer, I…I kind of expected you to be angry about this. But, it’s a lot to spring on someone, I know that. Take your time giving me an answer.”
You felt a blush heat up your cheeks as you laughed softly, “There’s only four weeks of summer left,” you said, watching as Yoonbin rolled his eyes at you again.
“You’re obsessed with that, aren’t you?” You shrugged, feeling his pinkie intertwine with yours again, “I’m still gonna be here after summer, you know that.”
“What if I move away for school?” You challenged lightly, not even attempting to dance around the fears in your mind.
He rose his eyebrows at you, “You have a phone, don’t you?”
You grinned slightly, “What if I don’t? Would you go back to pretending you hate me?”
“No, I’d just have to write you letters,” he challenged back, his lips turning upwards as your worries seemed to dissipate for the moment.
You laughed lightly, “But,” you began, drawing a groan from him, but it quickly slipped away when he saw the hint of seriousness beginning to find its way onto your features again, “what about when you debut? You’ll be too busy, right?”
His hand moved to grip yours as a slam resounded on the wooden door, a muffled voice calling out to you both gently, and you watched as Yoonbin moved to stand and go back to the door. The same muffled voice from earlier spoke again, “We’re gonna need a different tool, so, it’ll be, about another half an hour, our apologies again. Is everyone still, uh, all okay in there?”
Yoonbin laughed gently, looking over at your form still on the floor, “Yeah, yeah, we’re all good.” He moved back to sit beside you again, raising his eyebrows for a moment, “you’re still okay, right?”
You nodded gently, observing Yoonbin intently as he moved slowly to cup your face impossibly lightly, “It’s probably a bad time for me to kiss you, right?” He asked quietly, watching as you nodded in response, a grin curling your lips up, “you don’t care, do you?” You shook your head at him, feeling him pull your face closer to his as your lips met. The kiss was timid, his lips brushing against your own in a feather-light way as it didn’t gain in speed or desperation.
He pulled himself back after a moment, smiling at you brightly before speaking, “Don’t, don’t overthink this, okay? I like you, and you like me, that’s all that matters. We’ll just, cross those bridges when we get to them.”
A smile met your features are you nodded slowly at him, curling yourself closer to him while he leant his back against the wall again. “Is there anything else you need you get off your chest? This seems like it’s given us a good opportunity to fix some personal issues.” He said softly, his arm draping across your shoulders.
You laughed again, “Hm, don’t think so. Do you?”
“Actually,” he started, looking down at you as you caught his line of sight, “I have a question about Jihoon,” he began.
“Oh, I can’t help you with that,” you interrupted, dropping your head back onto his shoulder.
He hummed slightly in response, “I…I’m not so sure anyone really can.” He retorted, leaning his head to rest against yours as the room fell into a mix of attempted comfortable conversation that would be met with the sound of metal tools scraping against wood outside the little room.
I’m Sorry Pt.2
many people requested part two? originally this was suppose to be a one-shot but I gave in and wanted y'all to be happy LOL so here you go, thank you for supporting “I’m Sorry”.
Characters: Park Jihoon (ygtb) x You
Length: 886
Genre: Angst, mild fluff
NOTE: Sorry for inconvenience but there is a part 1! But it’s in my master list due to Tumblrs stupid bug.
Tumblr media
“You’re crying again…” He said.
“Your point is?” I sniffed as I got up.
“(Y/N), I may be your best friend, but yet I don’t understand why’d you leave Jihoon if you love him so much, and that you’re crying that much about him,” He frowned.
You didn’t respond.
“My point is, the fact that I didn't know you were like this but Jihoon does and has to tell me? It concerns me, I’m your best friend and yet I don’t even know you’re like this,” He sighed heavily.
“I’m sorry,” I apologized.
“It’s fine, just please tell me what’s wrong, and why did you do it,” He asked.
You were about to speak until another doorbell rang, you laid back down and took your blankets to cover your face, Yoonbin sighed and went to go see who it was.
*five minutes later*
You heard the door open and got back up and assumed it was Yoonbin, you were mistaken. It was Jihoon, he looked at you and saw how bad and red your eyes were, but he wasn’t any better. He headed towards the bed and you immediately went under the blankets. He sat down on the chair and sighed really loudly causing your heart to crack even more. You’re so burdensome.
“Please talk to me,” He begged.
*no response*
“Look, I know we broke up, but please just explain to me why? You slapped her and told her I was a good boyfriend, but yet why was I dumped,” He sniffed.
You heard his sniffles, he was forming tears, and while you were under the blankets your eyes were filled with tears. I’m Sorry. You laid there, not knowing how to respond, he got really impatient and yanked your blanket off to see your face. His eyes were wide open and and saw you were breaking down again, he pulled you into a hug but you pushed him away. His face showed how hurt he was. Idiot. You looked away, avoiding his eyes.
“Please look at me,” He begged.
He grabbed you and forced you to look at him, he started crying and he couldn’t stop. You widened your eyes, you couldn't stand to see him like this.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” You said repeatedly and pulled him into a hug.
“Just please tell me why, I… just really love you,” He responded.
You released from the hug and looked at away from his eyes,
“No you don’t,” I said.
“But, I do!” He replied.
“No, you don’t stop lying!” I yelled.
He grabbed both of your arms and pulled you closer to his face
“Why would I lie, who are you to call me a liar!” He shouted back.
“I just know,” I said quietly.
“No, you don’t know, (Y/N), explain this for me. If I didn’t care or love you, why would I tell Yoonbin to check up on you, why would I be HERE, wanting to make sure you’re OKAY!,” He said.
“YOU’RE JUST TOO GOOD FOR ME JIHOON, I’M JUST NOT ENOUGH FOR YOU AND I DON’T DESERVE YOU, JIHOON YOU DESERVE SO MUCH MORE, YOU DESERVE SOMEONE BETTER THAN ME,” I screamed.
He looked at you, and grabbed you tightly and his eyes were filled with anger.
“You are enough to me, YOU are the person I deserve, BUT WHO ARE YOU TO DECIDE WHO IS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME, WHO IS SOMEONE WHO DESERVES ME, THIS IS MY LIFE, I GET TO DECIDE WHO IS ENOUGH FOR ME AND WHO DESERVES ME AND IT’S YOU. IT’S ME, PARK JIHOON, YOU DON’T GET TO SPEAK FOR ME OR THINK FOR ME, IT’S MY LIFE, I GET TO CHOOSE WHO I WANT TO BE WITH AND IT’S YOU!” He yells while shaking you.
Coward
“You’re right, I don’t but I get to decide what I think is best for me, and what I thought was best for me was thinking you deserved better,” I cried.
He was crying again. I’m sorry.
“BUT YOU DON’T, (Y/N) I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, I DON’T CARE, YOU’RE ALWAYS ENOUGH FOR ME, PLEASE,” He begged.
You looked away.
“(Y/N), look at me, I’m telling you now that, you are enough to me, you are someone I cherish and I want to be with you,” He said.
Tears were rushing out of your eyes and you were crying loudly, there it was again, that phrase that appeared. I’m sorry. He pulled you into a tight hug, and you were apologizing repeatedly to him, “I’m sorry,”.
“You can stop apologizing, just please stay with me,” He said while looking at you
You nodded at him and pulled him into another hug, and from there the both of you laid down together on your bed and snuggled against each other and fell asleep. (idk bout you but whenever I cry, I end up getting super sleepy after).
After things got quiet, Yoonbin was still there, which meant he heard all the shouting and sobs, he only stayed just to make sure things wouldn’t get too bad or physical, he walked inside your room and saw the two of cuddle up sleeping together with your red puffy eyes and he smiled at the both of you.
Jihoon-ah I’m sorry, I love you.
[1:30pm] yoonbin goes to class with a smile on his face, his classmates oddly looking at him like there was something wrong.
he sits at the front and drops his bag on the floor, turning his back to face you, who was looking at him with a weird sheepish smile on your face.
"hey, babe."
you then hear your classmates snicker, some of them even throwing shouts and whistles at both of you.
"y-yoonbin, not here." you whisper, slowly covering your face with both of your hands.
yoonbin reaches for your hands, only to pull them away from your face as he says,
"don't hide your beautiful face. let them know you're mine."
he then turns away, winking at you, with a smirk on his face knowing well that you're blushing madly right now.
Sunny Summer || Park Jihoon
Tumblr media
♡♡♡♡
Type: Angst/Fluff
Word Count: 4.7K (Lol, I got really carried away)
Warning: Cursing, mature-ish themes (lol, not really) [Not Edited]
Description: You've matured since the last time Jihoon saw you ... and he's not the only one who's noticed
♡♡♡♡
Honestly, the thought of spending every summer in Jeju with your family wasn't exactly ideal. You wanted to spend the summer with your friends, not on an island where you knew almost no one. Still, you had one saving grace: Park Jihoon. The Park family was close friends with your own, so they had been staying at the same beach house with you since you were seven years old. Jihoon was the same age as you, so you naturally became close friends.
Your families both lived in Seoul, but you never really hung out with Jihoon unless it was some holiday or celebration and his family was over. As you senior year came to an end, you realized you hadn't seen Jihoon at all since that summer. It wasn't surprising, though, since you were both busy with studying for entrance exams and whatnot.
“He's going to be so surprised with how beautiful you've become,” your mother smiled as your plane landed in Jeju, stroking your hair lovingly.
You blushed, feeling embarrassed by the compliment. “It's not like I've changed that much,” you told her.
That wasn't necessarily true, however, you were just being humble. In all honesty, puberty did finally hit and it was kind to you. The boyish figure you once had finally had some shape to it. Your chest was still on the flatter side, but you couldn't have it all. Your braces were also removed and your now straight smile was beautiful. It was the little things that changed that made you look even prettier.
Your heart pounded like a drum as you neared the familiar beach house, which was basically your second home at that point. At first, you hadn't anticipated anything, but, after your mother's comment, you were wondering if this summer would be different.
“You're here!” Mrs. Park shouted as she rushed down the sandy steps of the beach house and to your mother, tightly hugging her. “Jihoon! Hurry to help with bags!”
Your own father hugged Mrs. Park and then Mr. Park, who was chuckling at how excited his wife was. “She's been waiting at the window for you guys,” he informed you all, making you smile fondly.
Mrs. Park turned to you. “Look how much you've grown in the past year! You're even more gorgeous, Y/N!”
Again, you blushed as you thanked her but politely said you looked the same. You watched as Jihoon appeared and they disappeared, always leaving the two of you to unload the rental car. “What happened to your face?” Jihoon asked as he opened the trunk.
You scowled, already knowing this summer would be like every other one. “Gee, thanks for that confidence boost,” you said, rolling your eyes.
He smiled and shook his head. “That's not what I meant. You just look different.” He inspected you and you felt like a bug under a microscope. “You got your braces off, huh?”
Nodding, you flashed him a smile. “You did, too. You look good.” The two of you embraced tightly before turning to the bags. “Are Junkyu and Yoonbin here yet?”
He nodded. “Yoonbin got here two days ago and Junkyu last night,” he informed you. “There's a party on the beach thrown by some college kids and Yoonbin managed to get us an invite.”
“Sounds cool,” you said, but you weren't sure how you felt. You had never been to a college party or any party for that matter. You liked to stay in bed where it was warm and safe, eating snacks and watching movies. Still, maybe you might like the party scene.
After unloading everything and putting the bags in your respective rooms, you put your swimsuit on, some shorts and a tank top, and then joined Jihoon downstairs to meet Junkyu and Yoonbin for a swim.
“What happened to you?” Junkyu asked, his eyebrows furrowing the moment he laid eyes on you.
You scoffed in disbelief, “Did I get so ugly over the span of one year?”
Yoonbin smiled. “I think he's talking about that giant bruise on your knee,” he commented.
“No, I'm talking about how my little brother, Y/N, is now my sister,” Junkyu said. “When did you get a figure?”
You shoved him aside, going to set your towel down. “Shut up,” you huffed.
“Wait, who called you ugly?” Yoonbin asked.
Junkyu nodded. “Yeah! I'll fight him for you!”
You glanced at Jihoon. “I didn't call you ugly!” he exclaimed. “I just couldn't figure out what about you changed.”
Letting out a laugh, you jumped up to your feet and threw an arm around him. “I know, I know! I just like to give you a hard time,” you teased. “Now, let's get in the water. It's so hot out.”
As you removed your shirt and shorts, you watched the boys rush into the water. Every year before, you had worn a one-piece swimsuit. That year, however, you wore your first bikini. With your new figure, your friend had somehow convinced you to show it off. You felt slightly self-conscious, but you knew you just had to fake it until you make it.
After some swimming and goofing off, you finally decided you wanted to dry off and enjoy the warm sun. The boys agreed but already planned on playing some volleyball with a beach ball in a little bit.
“Yeah, I fell down the stairs because I was so excited after finding out I got accepted into one of my top three universities,” you told Yoonbin, explaining why your knee was bruised. “I'm just glad I didn't break it.”
He laughed, “I'm surprised you didn't.”
“I'll have the whole house to myself for two nights, so we can have our own mini party,” Junkyu said to Jihoon. You didn't hear the whole conversation because you and Yoonbin had just tuned in.
You looked at Jihoon. “You're gonna leave me alone for two nights with just our parents?” you asked him.
He opened his mouth to speak, but Junkyu cut him off. “You can come, too. I don't think your parents would mind. What would even happen?”
Yoonbin nodded in agreement. “Yeah, we're all like siblings,” he added.
“Good point. I'll ask, but I'm sure they'll be fine with it,” you said. Your eyes wandered towards three guys passing by. Your jaw just about dropped. “That guy is so hot.”
They looked to see who you were drooling over. “Yugyeom-hyung?” Jihoon questioned. “The guy we've known since we were kids?”
You shook your head, “No, the one in the middle.”
“His name is Eunwoo, this summer's heartthrob,” Junkyu told you. “All the girls are talking about him and he just got here.”
Eunwoo looked over, seeing you staring. He sent you a sweet smile before turning away. “Well, you've certainly got his attention,” Yoonbin smirked, standing up to go play volleyball.
“I'm in love,” you said. “What I wouldn't give to have even just two minutes in heaven with him.”
You felt something hit your head. It didn't hurt, but sometimes you liked to be dramatic. “Ouch! What the heck?!”
Jihoon looked at you as he picked up the beach ball he had just hit you with. “Stop drooling over him and come play,” he said.
Scowling, you stood up and joined Junkyu on the other side of the net.
♡♡♡♡
“Hurry up, Y/N! Before I'm old!” Jihoon called to you somewhat jokingly, waiting on the porch of the beach house.
You hurriedly slipped your bracelet onto your wrist before jogging down the stairs. “Well, don't you look gorgeous,” your mother smiled, lovingly smoothing down your hair.
You were wearing a skirt and top set. They were both red with white flowers on them. The top was a crop top with sleeves that wrapped around your upper arm, showing off both your stomach and shoulders. You had bought it on a whim hoping it would look good and maybe you could try and find a style that you really liked. Hopefully your mother was right and you looked gorgeous.
“Watch after Jihoon, yeah? Now that you guys can drink, he thinks he's a pro,” Mrs. Park snickered.
Smiling, you nodded. “Of course,” you told her. “I'm not planning on drinking much or at all in order to keep an eye on the three of them.”
“That's my girl,” your mother smiled. You quickly put your sandals on and then joined Jihoon outside.
He looked at you and stopped swaying, inspecting you. It felt like he stared at you forever until he finally said, “You look nice, now let's go before Junkyu gets impatient.”
You nodded, joining his side as you walked down the beach and to the house. Honestly, you weren't sure whose house or party it was, but you didn't really care.
“That's a cute outfit,” a girl told you. You were pretty sure her name was Herin.
“Thanks,” you said, smiling at her. She ended up spending a lot of the night with you and the boys. It turned out it was her first summer there, just a whim on her parent's end.
Junkyu's eyes wandered and spotted Eunwoo standing near the cooler. “Look, Y/N, your boyfriend is here,” he teased.
You looked over, blushing slightly when you saw Eunwoo. “He's totally yummy,” Herin said.
That made you smile. You could never really talk about guys on a real level with the three boys. “Thank you!” you exclaimed, turning back to look at Eunwoo. “He's seriously gorgeous.”
Her arm looped with your own, “Come on, let's go refill our drinks.”
The two of you quickly left, going over to the cooler where Eunwoo was with another tall, handsome boy. He spotted you and Herin before smiling. “Hi,” he spoke, his voice as beautiful and angelic as himself. “You're Y/N, right?”
The fact that he knew your name made your mind go blank and insides become mush. “Y-yeah,” you managed out, feeling Herin lightly squeeze your arm. You didn't care if Yugyeom had told him your name, you were just happy he had remembered.
Jihoon watched on with Yoonbin and Junkyu. “What could they possibly be talking about?” Jihoon scoffed. “They probably have nothing in common.”
Yoonbin smirked. “Jihoon, your jealousy is showing,” he said in a sing-song tone. “If you want to date Y/N so badly, then tell her how you feel. You won't get anywhere by not saying anything.”
That made Junkyu laugh but nod in agreement. Once again, Jihoon scoffed, but much more dramatically as he took another gulp of his beer. “Jealous? No way!”
“Come on, you've glared at any guy who stared at Y/N too long. An appreciative glance her way equals a glare from you,” Junkyu said. “Admit it, Y/N finally grew up during senior year and tons of guys have noticed. You're so used to her always being with you and us, so you're bothered that she has a thing for that Eunwoo guy and vice-versa.”
Jihoon was upset at the fact that he was so transparent to his two friends and the fact that they were right. He didn't want to be jealous, but he couldn't help it. You were practically his best friend and he was so used to having you around him almost at all times. Seeing you making new friends and spreading your wings bothered him because he feared you leave him and he hated that.
You were so caught up in your conversation with Eunwoo that you hadn't noticed Herin and Mingyu totally hitting it off. Eunwoo was really nice, sweet, and handsome, but he wasn't very funny. In fact, he was kind of awkward. Still, you enjoyed his company enough and he enjoyed yours, but it was obvious to both of you that things would never turn romantic.
In all that time, you completely forgot about Jihoon, Junkyu, and Yoonbin. You felt really guilty since the summer was for them, but you were sure you'd see them plenty during university and were hoping you guys would start hanging out in Seoul. “I really had a nice time talking with you, but I think I should go find my friends and make sure they're not doing something stupid,” you told Eunwoo.
He smiled and nodded. “It was nice meeting you, Y/N. I hope we can talk again soon,” he said.
Herin sent you a look, one that clearly asked if you wanted her to go with you. You slightly shook your head, wanting her to spend more time with Mingyu. Without another word or silent communication, you left.
“There you are!” you exclaimed when you finally found Jihoon. He was alone in one of the bedrooms, sitting at the foot of the bed with his arms wrapped around a pillow. “I've been looking for you everywhere! Where are Yoonbin and Junkyu?”
Jihoon didn't respond right away and you watched his head bob up and down slightly. That was when you realized he was drunk. He reeked of alcohol. “Y/N! There you are!” he exclaimed, his words only slightly slurred, which was surprising.
You giggled but felt bad for not watching out for him and stopping him from drinking too much. “Come on, let's go find Junkyu and Yoonbin and then get you to bed.”
Grabbing his hands, you struggled to help him to his feet. You threw the pillow back onto the bed and lightly slapped Jihoon's face to wake him up. “Why didn't you hang out with me tonight? This is our time, Y/N. All these guys are suddenly talking to you because you're so hot and you have no time for me.”
Then, without any warning, he kissed you. It wasn't a long kiss, but longer than expected. When he pulled away, his head fell on your shoulder. “Holy shit,” Yoonbin's voice said. You hadn't even noticed him and Junkyu.
“We never speak of this,” you say and they nod. “Come on, help me get him home.”
It was kind of a struggle, but you guys eventually got him on Junkyu's back and then home. You were relieved your parents weren't awake because you didn't want Jihoon to do something dumb.
Before Jihoon fell asleep, you made him eat something and drink water.
♡♡♡♡
“I did what?!” Jihoon shrieked, rubbing at his temples right after. His headache had gone down a great deal, but not completely. “No, there's no way. Did I do anything else?”
Yoonbin nodded, “You called her hot.”
That made him groan and bury his head in his hands. You had gone to get ice cream with Herin and he was sure you were telling her what happened. The two of you had only just met but he could tell you hit it off and finally had a girl to confide in.
“How bad is this? Like, have I made things totally awkward or will Y/N and I be okay?”
Silence took over as the three boys thought about this. “Honestly, I think Y/N just chalked it up to a drunken mistake on your part,” Junkyu confessed. “Knowing Y/N, she'll pretend it never happened.”
Jihoon didn't know how he felt about that. On one hand, he wished it had never happened, so pretending it didn't was the next best thing. On the other, all he wanted to do was talk about it with you. He couldn't just leave the situation up in the air, could he? This was why he never wanted to confess his feelings to you. When feelings got involved, things only got complicated.
The front door opened and Jihoon wondered if it was your guys’ parents coming back from whatever thing they had planned to do in town. “I'm back!” you called out, shutting the door behind you. You went upstairs and found the three boys in Jihoon's room. “Feeling better?”
Jihoon swallowed hard as he nodded. Things felt weird but he knew that was only on his end. “How was ice cream with Herin?” Junkyu asked, trying to ease the awkwardness caused by Jihoon.
You sat down next to Jihoon. You were close, closer than he expected. He felt like he couldn't breathe properly. “Good. We ran into Eunwoo-oppa and Mingyu-oppa. I think Herin and Mingyu-oppa are really hitting it off.”
Oppa? You were calling Eunwoo that already? The two of you just met! Were you really already that close? It made Jihoon feel upset and jealous and he hated that. He didn't want to be that guy, but he couldn't help it.
“What about you and Eunwoo?” Yoonbin asked. Jihoon looked at him, wondering why he'd ask that. Was he trying to make Jihoon even more jealous? Or was it just to get some clarity. Maybe both.
You shrugged. “I don't know. He's really nice, but I don't think it'll go anywhere,” you confessed, making Jihoon feel relieved. You looked at him and then grabbed his chin gently between your thumb and index finger. “Are you sure you're feeling better? You look flushed.”
Probably because he was. He wasn't sure how he looked, but he was freaking out on the inside. His heart was beating like a drum and he thought he would combust any second from your touch.
“I-I'm fine, just a little hot,” he finally said, cringing at his word choice.
Nodding slowly, you said, “Okay. Let's all watch a movie together. I'll meet you guys down there.”
They watched you leave before Junkyu hit Jihoon's arm. “Are you trying to make it awkward?!” he exclaimed. “Y/N was acting completely normal but you were acting like you two just met!”
“I know! I'm sorry!” Jihoon exclaimed. “I just can't help it. Even though I don't remember the kiss, I still feel like it only made me like her more. Now that I've crossed that line of friendship, it's hard to be just friends.”
Yoonbin sighed, “Then either talk to Y/N or get over it. This summer will be painful if you keep acting this way.”
That night, Jihoon couldn't sleep. He just laid in bed staring up at his ceiling, listening to the soft, low hum of the fan he had on his dresser. Earlier at dinner, he spazzed out when you got too close to grab some more rice and he ended up spilling soda all over you. He was sure his mother noticed he was acting weird and was thankful she didn't say anything … yet.
Normal. He just wanted things to be normal again. Checking the clock, he saw that midnight was just a few minutes away. With a smile on his face, he threw his covers off and went to your bedroom. You were sound asleep and he felt guilty waking you up, but only a little.
“Y/N, wake up,” he said softly, shaking you gently. You woke up fairly quickly.
Rubbing at your eyes, you whined, “What are you doing?”
“Come on, let's go for a midnight swim.”
That made you smile. A midnight swim was a tradition for you and Jihoon. The first midnight swim always occurred within the first week of summer to mark its official start. Midnight swims were sacred for the two of you because they were just yours. No parents, no Junkyu, and no Yoonbin. It was your time with each other, so it was special.
“Okay, let me just change.”
He shook his head as you climbed out of bed. “No time! We'll just swim in our clothes!” he exclaimed in a hushed tone. Without another word, he grabbed your hand and pulled you along with him.
The two of you were panting slightly as you stood on the beach near the water. The night was quiet and no one else was out, which was kind of surprising. “Um, Jihoon?” you questioned, finally able to get a word in. He hummed in response, his eyes taking in the waves in the moonlight. “I'm not wearing pants.”
His eyes immediately went to your legs, realizing you were only in a T-shirt and underwear. “Sorry!” he exclaimed, peeling his eyes away. “I shouldn't have just pulled you out of there like that or looked at you.”
That made you giggle and he was kind of confused. “It's fine. It was basically an invitation for you to look.”
“Well, we can just swim in our underwear? It's like swimwear anyway.”
You both knew that wasn't completely true. Underwear was more intimate than swimwear, which was why they were called “intimates”. Still, you didn't say anything and nodded instead. Jihoon was quick to strip and remove his shirt and sweatpants. He waited nervously as you removed your shirt.
“You can look at me, Jihoon. I won't think you're a pervert or anything,” you said. He nodded and looked at you, trying his best to not check you out. You held out your hand. “Come on, let's go.”
He took your hand and then the two of you ran into the water. For the next half hour or so, you just swam and talked. Things felt normal for the first time all day. Maybe things didn't have to return to normal, though. Things had changed, clearly, but maybe it wasn't bad. Maybe things could change to a new kind of normal.
“Summer has officially begun,” Jihoon grunted softly as he sat down on the porch of the house. Content smiles were on both of your faces.
You sighed happily. “I thought it was going to be like any other summer, but it feels different. It feels like something big will happen.”
You sounded wistful; like you hoped it would be different. “Are you talking about the kiss?”
Jihoon couldn't believe he blurted that out. All he wanted to do was disappear, but he couldn't. “That kiss didn't mean anything, Jihoon. I mean, you were just drunk and upset,” you said. “We can't like each other, either, right? We just wouldn't work. I mean, me with you?”
What was that supposed to mean? “Yeah, you're right. We wouldn't work,” Jihoon said, getting worked up because he was upset. “I'm not good enough for you, right? I can't compare to Eunwoo. He's gorgeous, tall, and x, y, and z. Why would you want me when you could have him?”
You opened your mouth to talk, but Jihoon was already storming inside.
♡♡♡♡
“Where's Jihoon?” your mother asked, joining you on the porch the next afternoon.
You shrugged, “Probably with Junkyu or Yoonbin. I don't know.”
She sat down next to you. “Interesting.”
Letting out a small sigh, you bookmarked your page and set your book down. It was obvious your mother knew something was going on between you and Jihoon and wanted answers. “We got into a fight last night, okay?”
Clearly, you were upset. “What happened? Come on, vent to Momma,” she said, making you smile a bit.
“At that party the other night, he got really drunk and kissed me. I was gonna act like it hadn't happened for the rest of my life since I thought it was just a drunken kiss, but I think it meant more to Jihoon than I thought,” you confessed to her. “He brought it up last night and then stormed off looking upset. I was just flustered and couldn't stop talking, so I think there was some misunderstanding. I've tried to clear things up, but he's avoiding me, ignoring my calls and texts, and even hangs up Yoonbin and Junkyu's phones when I call them.”
She smiled, soothingly stroking your hair. “He's just upset. Give him time to cool off and I'm sure he'll be open to talking again. Jihoon could never stay mad at you.” You nodded, hoping she was right. “The more important thing is if you like Jihoon back. From what I can tell, he likes you but is jealous of other guys, especially Eunwoo.”
You had no idea how she knew about Eunwoo and could only assume she had eavesdropped when you were on the phone with Herin earlier. “Eunwoo is nice and everything, but he's a little dull and awkward. I really like Jihoon. He's like my best friend. He understands me so well and everything about him is great. I think I've always liked him but I've wanted things to stay normal.”
“Well, sometimes normal has to change and become a new normal. Don't let ideas like that keep you from being happy, sweetie,” she told you. She made a really good point.
You smiled at her, “Thanks, Mom. I really needed this.”
“Of course, kiddo.”
She went back inside and you picked your book back up, feeling better than you had all day.
That evening, you had been so prepared to talk to Jihoon, but he didn't come home. You had forgotten Junkyu was going to have his house to himself, so Jihoon was staying over along with Yoonbin. Junkyu had invited you, but you felt awkward to just show up after a whole day of avoiding each other. You decided to just stay at home with all the parents. It was weird since Jihoon and you were almost always together, but it really helped you to realize just how much Jihoon meant to you.
You couldn't sleep that night. It was so weird that the whole day passed without you and Jihoon talking. It made you feel weird and unsettled. Instead of just laying in bed, you went downstairs for ice cream. When you got down there, you just about had a heart attack when you saw Jihoon sitting at the table.
“What are you doing here?!” you exclaimed in a hushed tone, a hand over your pounding heart. “I almost peed my pants!”
That made the corners of his mouth twitch slightly. “I couldn't sleep, so I left Junkyu's,” he told you. You nodded, feeling awkward. “Okay, that's not the complete truth. I felt really guilty for ignoring you all day and couldn't sleep. I came here to talk to you, but I chickened out and have been sitting here trying to give myself the confidence for the past 10 minutes.”
“You didn't have to chicken out. I've been trying to talk to you all day.”
He nodded. “I know, but I was hurt and upset.”
“That's why I was trying to talk to you. It was a misunderstanding, Jihoon. I was just talking without thinking because I like you, too. Eunwoo-oppa is just a friend. He may be good looking and stuff, but he doesn't begin to compare to you,” you confessed. “You're my best friend, Jihoon, and you'll always be my number one. I never told you this because I was afraid of things changing, but I shouldn't be. Change is good and that's how a new normal can come about.”
He finally cracked a smile. “God, I'm an idiot,” he said softly. He was going to say something else but shut his mouth when you used your finger to angle his head and kiss him.
It was awkward since he was sitting and you were standing, but he was quick to pull you down onto his lap. The kiss spoke more than actual words. You knew he wanted you and vice-versa. You guys loved each other and didn't have to be afraid anymore. The kiss was filled with passion as your lips moved in sync and tongues explored. It probably wouldn't have escalated from there, but you would never know. The kiss was suddenly interrupted by the sound of a camera. You turned and saw both of your mother's.
Letting out a small yelp, you threw yourself off Jihoon. In the process, you tripped over your own foot and fell on your back. “You guys are so embarrassing!” Jihoon cried out as he quickly helped you up.
“Hey! Let us be happy!” his mother exclaimed. “Do you know how long we've waited for this? We've been wanting you two to end up together since you were kids.”
You sighed. “You got your wish, happy?” you asked. They nodded and you shook your head slightly. “We're going to bed, now, so goodnight.”
All of you went to your respective rooms. You pecked Jihoon's lips one last time before turning to go to your room. Jihoon grabbed your wrist and spun you around, crashing his lips onto your own. Once again, you got distracted and lost in the kiss.
“Sleep well, Y/N,” he said softly as you went to your room, making your insides melt.
You both shut your doors and let out dreamy sighs before climbing into bed, ready for whatever the rest of the summer had in store for you guys.
requested - yes
genre - fluff
warnings - nope!
word count - 948
shy - park jihoon
Tumblr media
okay, so we all know jihoon is not a shy person
this boy loves making friends!
but when he first met y/n, she had this vibe with her
it made him nervous and he didn’t know why
he could never form the right sentences and whenever he said something
y/n would get this look on her face, like she didn’t want anything to do with jihoon
of course this is how jihoon interprets it
y/n had no idea. absolutely no idea, i mean how could a person guess?!
it made her confused
@ first she didn’t know if he was... just a shy person to begin with or he just didn’t like her
she made the assumption that jihoon didn’t like her
she noticed how easy it was for jihoon to communicate with strangers, so she knew he wasn’t shy
y/n didn’t know why he didn’t like her and it made her sad because she really wanted to get to know him
once jihoon was sprouting out jokes to the group, y/n and a few of her members included
“yOU KNOW WHAT IT IS! I AM PUFFY JUNKYU” jihoon exclaimed
it was a weird joke but it somehow made all of them laugh
and they laughed hard
especially y/n
jihoon was admiring y/n laugh
everyone noticed, but y/n
it was real cute
they ALL knew jihoon had a huge crush on y/n which is why he always acted like this in front of her
unusually stuttering and giggling
and they all knew what y/n thought of jihoon
she didn’t think anything bad of him, in fact she thought it was the other way around
their lovely friends thought of a plan that would get the two oblivious love birds to get comfortable!
play seven minutes in heaven and lock them in a room!
“original and effective” as junkyu said
since they “didn’t have a water bottle” to properly play the game, they used yoonbin’s beanie and paper
the person you pick is your partner for seven minutes in heaven
pretty simple
except they rigged it
everyone, except y/n of course, wrote jihoon’s name
they decided to go youngest first, y/n was the youngest of the ‘00 liners
they were all praying for her downfall and we know it
surprise surprise!
she chose jihoon
the two were locked in jihoon’s room for seven minutes
minute seven: jihoon didn’t say anything, neither did y/n, afraid that jihoon would be unresponsive
minute six : silence
minute five : “jihoon, do you hate me?”
jihoon’s eyes became wide, like owls
“n-n-no, what makes you think that??” jihoon stuttered
“you never seem comfortable with me, and you never speak to me. i know you’re not shy, you talk to all the new trainees. yet, i’ve been here for a year and we’ve only had three full conversations,”y/n pouted
minute five : jihoon almost uwu’d right then and there
the temptation to hold her face and just kiss her was strong
jihoon felt guilty, realizing the vibes he gave her
“t-t-that’s” jihoon cleared his throat,”that’s not why... y/n.”
“i’m usually not shy, but i am with you. you make me so nervous that i never know what to say to you. it’s not that i hate you, i just can’t think of the right words to say whenever i come face to face with you, and you alone. i can’t talk to you because i’m scared of saying the wrong things at the wrong time, so all i can do is look and admire. god you’re so pretty when you smile. your smile brightens the whole room, it makes me feel so energized just seeing you. your laugh, i’m jealous of your members because they get to hear you laugh everyday. the look on your face when you dance is mesmerizing. you look so immersed, it inspires me to be that good at performing. y/n there’s so many things about you that makes me nervous because i like you so much.”
minute four : “i’m jealous of my own friends because they get to effortlessly talk to you. they don’t like you the way that i do. and i can only hope that you don’t like any one of them the way that i like you,”jihoon looked down at his hands
y/n was shocked to say the least
“jihoon... i didn’t know you felt that way about me. you’re really nice jihoon-“
“but?”jihoon interrupted
minute three : “but? what do you mean? there is no ‘but’ i like you too”
jihoon’s lips formed an ‘o’ shape and y/n couldn’t help but to giggle
y/n reached out for jihoon and hugged him
they hugged for a long time
jihoon was very much satisfied
minute two : y/n pulled away first, but kept her hands on jihoon’s shoulders
their faces were inches apart and jihoon stared at her lips, then back into her eyes
minute one : they both leaned in
their lips brushed against each other until a harsh knock on the door startled both of them
jihoon mentally groaned and cursed his friends for making him miss his chance
as he was about to walk out of the room, y/n grabbed his wrist and pulled him in for a quick peck
it was quick
too quick
so jihoon pulled her back in for a longer kiss
their plan might’ve been the dumbest one, but it was effective
jihoon and y/n had no one else to thank but their friends
