Ok I’m back with an actually serious ship ask: Arthur/Merlin/Gwaine 👀🌿
MY FAVORITE POLYSHIP OF THIS FANDOM!! Courage/Strength/Magic, Soldier/Poet/King, Merlin and his himbos, knights and their sorcerer. Two men who have built their lives around being tough and talented violence, having to steady themselves for someone more delicate. The irony of Merlin being tougher than they think. There's something so playful about this ship. I love the banter they all have with each other. That moment in the Fisher King when Gwaine and Merlin exchange that look to make fun of Arthur? Merlin calling them both stupid jocks when their plan to escape the slave trader in The Coming of Arthur only works because Merlin used his magic? I just know these three are always making fun of each other.
There is also such good potential for angst there! The way Gwaine and Merlin are so easy with each other, totally has the potential to play on Arthur's insecurities. Merlin having to keep his magic from both men he loves? Ouch!! Gwaine coming in late, and seeing how established Merlin and Arthur already are with each other, and feeling like an intruder? Augh!
But there is also so much trust there. Merlin asks Gwaine for help protecting Arthur again and again, and Gwaine always agrees. When Merlin can't keep an eye on Arthur, Gwaine does. When Arthur can't keep an eye on Merlin, Gwaine does. All three have each other's backs.
Plus in my ranking of Arwaine, I said Gwaine would commit to a bit during sex and Arthur would be so annoyed by it, especially because he would still be turned on. I think this aspect would double down, because Merlin never passes up a chance to take the piss when it comes to Arthur. So, he would 100% commit to Gwaine's bit just to watch Arthur squirm.
I rank this ship:
A-Tier
Send me a Merlin Ship and I’ll rank it on a tier list. Note: This is a subjective ranking and a low ranking in no way means that I am shaming you for your taste in ships.
