Sorry if this has been asked but how do you color and render its so yummy in your art :o
Oh it reaaally depends on the drawing. When I do my regular cell shading I generally avoid using any blending modes and such unless I really need them. I just pick colors. I like to add that darker, more saturated edge to all the shadows, like i did here
I actually got that from archie, hehe
this one i kind of painted/sculpted in grayscale using a kind of translucent brush that i was just constantly changing the opacity of. then I threw a blend mode on top of it, I'm pretty sure it was linear burn?? With the colors I wanted and then fixed some stuff and voila. Here's how it looks in without the blend mode
For fully rendered stuff I can first do cell shading, then paint over it. If I want a particular lighting i use blend modes on the base i drew.
I don't really have a system that i abide by, though, I just do whatever feels right for each drawing. I'm not really concerned with sticking to a particular style rn.
#sorry if this isn't very informative im doing my best thoo TwT#i loove getting questions like that tho it's so nice to get them#im open to recording a speedpaint or something if anyone requests that too i love that shit

ELLO! your art is really yummy and I enjoy it very much, is it okay to ask which brushes you use?
sure! i change brushes sometimes but i use these the most.
for lining/rendering/shading cleanup/ details:
more lines:
shading clean up (sometimes):
painting/shading: (usually the second brush of the pack)

Hello phew :3 can I ask you how you pick your colors? They're always so good and I need to steal your techniques
HII HI !!1!11!! THANK YOU!!! :-3 ,,, oak so for me ive started using more muted colors that are more greyish on the color wheel yk yk,, its a really good base to work off of (and later on layering more saturated and mid tones makes a yummy contrast i prommy)
whenever i pick colors i usually go for colors that i wouldnt usually think to use ,, especially since irl the colors u see really js depends on the context and colors around it lololz (and by that i really js mean using a range of complimentary colors to ,, i guess, imply the color u want rather than directly color picking or whateverz) if that makes any sense ?? this really applies for different lighting, mood, etc.
for me its realllyyy just eyeballing it, looking at color dependent references and choosing all kinds colors & making use of the color wheel instead of getting stuck in a sense of “my character is green, ill js use different shades of green” ,,
imo !! blues/greys, yellows and purples/pinks are usually my go-to colors when rendering if we talk about in general , since theyre more natural 2 me in a way ,, but thats mostly 4 humanz
i usually add small amounts of really saturated colors as a way to kind of emphasize a kind of “pop” ,, since it stands out against everything else, (which is really js part of my art style lolz )
tldr: muted tones !! make use of a buncha colors u wouldnt think to use !!!!! use the whole color wheel !! !! saturated colors for contrast!! references!!!!!!
soz if this makes like 0 sense LOL , im not a professional by any means
#soz in advance if the atrocious grammar in my wall of writing kills ur passion for reading /hj#mailbox >_<#moots!!!!

What brushes do you use cause your art is lowkey so yummy.
The brushes I use are the default Krita brushes. Mainly Pencil-2 for sketching and Wet Paint Plus for my shading/rendering :)

what brush(es) do you use on magma dude ur stuff is so pretty💔💔💔
Thank you for the kind words!
Imostly use the “Rough” brushes… I love a good texture.

I use rough + rougher mostly for lines + colour blocking

And textures 1 (and sometimes textured 2) for colouring and shading/rendering etc etc ^_^
I also am a fan of a good multiply layer for the lines… mm colours yummy
Honestly I am very inexperienced with magma and I just try things out and mess around most of the time :]

spamblue anon again - real talk ive followed u for a lil bit and even just with that small amt of time i've seen u improve and refine ur skills and it's been really fun and nice to watch u create!!! i hope u have a good year and create pieces u love as much as ur followers do <3
AHHHHHHHHHH!
YEAH! This year alone I have improved a lot, I do have to kinda thank my good pal @/Stelldubs cause If it wasn't for her characters I wouldn't have tried out new art styles- I went from kinda doing basic lineart shit to going into rendering and painting via one layer (Idk why but drawing on one layer is just soo fucking yummy to me) I'm sorry now I just wanna talk and compare how I've improved cause like I don't mention it a lot and I don't really post art other then spamton here so A lot of my art never reaches here sadly BUT LEMME JUST SHOW A COMPARISON
*SLAPS THIS DOWN*
I Deff got more comfortable this year with rendering/dynamics/ and shading!!
I feel bad about it but I REALLY JUST WANNA SHOW MY IMPROVEMENT TO PEEPS *crying emoji* I mean you deff probably haven't been following me long enough to ever see this old shit and I KNOWWWWWWWWW this is way off topic now but I love to talk! ANYYYYYYYYWAYS getting back on track, THANK YOU MYSTERIOUS SPAMBLUE ANON, I LOVE YOU, I CARE ABOUT YOUUUUU

I want to ask, is it difficult when you draw? When I see your shaded drawings, it looks outrageously incredible, yummy, eatable, but I get curious how much time it takes when you have to draw them.
the rendering sure is the longest part of my art! (if i take out the time to think of a idea..) I'd say I'm able to be pretty quick with my style of shading - though i don't know the exact time it takes... I wouldn't say it's difficult though! simply just one layer shading, then a darker layer- and then all the lighting uwu Mayyyybe ~3-4h for a fully shaded character, only the time it takes to render.
And thankchu! <333 yum yum

I like my gummy art style
I call it gummy cause of the coloured outlines and whatnot
It’s inspired off of Trash panda’s art style for the bb boys, with my own take on the hair shading from back in 2010s where I added hair texture
I gotta collect more art references to help me out on how I can add more onto my rendering or even add more details to it
I am still relearning anatomy as I am a slow learner ☠️ but I wanna get the hang of it for my next 22nd birthday next year
An art style that is yummy just for me

CSP Brushes i like to use!
I usually work on:
5000x5000px 500dpi
4961x7016px 600dpi for big illustrations (A4)
320x240px 500dpi for pixel art
Lineart and Sketching:
Content ID:1761353
I use this one for pretty much everything! Very much a favorite of mine.
Content ID:2019374
I mostly use ZAKUZAKU from this set. It's not really ideal for my usual artstyle, but it feels nice to use, and has good texture.
Content ID:1851133
I use this one for coloring, rendering, lineart and sketching! I customize this one with a halftone texture for rendering from time to time, as well as a similar brush with the ID: 1963562
Content ID:1888898
I use BASSY in this set! It's usually my go-to if i want to do cleaner lineart without texture. I tend to use it on lower stabilization (Between 2 and 6)
Coloring and Rendering
Content ID:1771136
I have another version of the lasso fill too, but they're pretty much the same. This one just has anti-aliasing as it's standard setting. (I do prefer to turn off anti-aliasing when doing base colours for a bigger piece since i like to use select color gamut)
Content ID:1872771
I use DAEPEN4 from the set a lot! I like using it for soft coloring or shading. I also use a duplicated version of it with a halftone texture for some rendering.
Content ID:1771071
I loooove this pen i use it 4 everything
Content ID:1893599
Rake brush i use for some textures. There's a "grainier" one with this ID: 1896418
Content ID:1754778
I use this one lots for rendering. I like the Block one the most.
Content ID:1900917
Yummy scrummy texture and color-blocking brush for rendering.
Erasing:
Content ID:1800618
I love lasso tools... Go-to stuff. I wish they made the next one as a lasso tool too...
Content ID:1800143
I forget to use this too much when i'm coloring, but it's nice when you get a good flow with it (needs to be used with a refrence layer)
For pixel art,
I like to use the standard Dot pen, and the lasso tools with ant-aliasing off. Tbf i vary my tools A LOT art to art, and i really just use whatever feels best. (this applies for non-pixel art too)
For pixel art, i really just make sure i have anti-aliasing off on the brushes i use.
In general,
I do also like some of the standard CSP brushes, like the airbrush tool (often accompanied by lasso select) and the marker pen on high stabilization for artwork like merchandise or more "technical" looking artwork.
I use a lot of various half-tone brushes, which are really just a lot that i came across by searching up half-tone or hatching.
I have far too many brushes downloaded, and i pretty frequently switch between stuff, but i tried to list the ones i most consistently use.
Additionally, a brush i like to use is the Jerma pen, which, as it may sound, is just a pen where the brush tip is a png of Jerma. The material was deleted from the CSP assets, but i still use it with custom pen pressure. It's unironically a very nice pen for less refined artwork and sketches.
#i rly like doing art related posts...#like the technicalities#civettictis ask tag#sort of#clip studio paint#csp

if youre comfortable sharing, whats your rendering process? what are some ways you learned? your art is very yummy
HSHSHHSHS hello!!!!!!!!!! first off omg,,,, thank you so much,,,,🤭🤭
secondly!!!! heres my attempt at a rendering process explanation. uhm. warning ive never really been asked to explain it before please bare with me
BUT. here goes. this'll probably be ungodly long apologies
so when i render my biggest rule is basically Do Not Blend Ever. what i do is do my sketch, then flats, then basic placement of blush/shadows+darkest parts/etc and then i go in and just colourpick the inbetweens+place them between colours in small strokes until the changes in colour don't look too sharp/jarring
here's some examples of the process;;;
(still a wip but HSHSHHS) so i work on 3 layers primarily (sometimes i do the hair+items that cover the face on another layer, too, though they might end up getting merged):
^ with just the sketch layer n flats / and then with the render layer added
i go in with a bigger brush to block in colour variation on the face on the flats layer and then paint over that, as well as over the sketch, with smaller strokes on a render layer- i never do lineart lol, and any "lineart" thats visible is just the sketch peeking through. I try to rely on colour and shadow to create shapes and boundaries instead of lines though this isn’t a hard and fast rule.
i also try to stick to the same pallette the entire drawing- once the flats and shadows are first roughly blocked in all the other tones/midshades/colours are basically just inbetweens picked directly from the drawing. Just me zooming in real close till I can see the pixels and colour picking where they sort of mix. (any smaller shifts in hue/tones are just colours with saturation slightly turned up or down, usually) im also not sure if this helps but i use the Sol brush from the clip studio assets store for literally everything from sketch to render, which is basically just a slightly soft opacity brush which ive deluded myself into thinking helps give my art a softer look. idfk if it does or not.:)
I like to use really saturated blush and for shadows I usually use two base colours; a warmer one and a colder one- a warmer one for smaller shadows and shadows near light and then colder ones for planes more in darkness. Also, usually, at the very end of the drawing I’ll add a layer that’s just fully yellow with colour burn or linear burn or multiply turned on and the opacity turned low just to make everything warmer. (a little thing I like doing for shadows sometimes is never making them reach the edge of the plane; the actual edge is usually a slightly lighter shade and it sort of looks like stylised bounce light that would probably not be there but anyhoo)
but yeah,,,, Never Blend But Make It Look Almost Blended. I’ve been doing it forever,,,,,, and I really like the almost shiny feeling it gives things:)))
And where did I learn. Ough. A lot of what I do I figured out through trial and error and just drawing a bunch (IM SORRY THATS REALLY NOT HELPFUL) but some sources I looked towards were sinix design and bluebiscuits on YouTube!!!!! Sinix has a really good video on rendering skin which is where I sort of took my principles from and ran. And bluebiscuits was a huge inspiration for me when I started trying to render things beyond flats!!!!!!! They’re also where I found the sol brush, lol. Also just,,, the impressionist movement as a whole is a massive inspiration. The use of light and shapes to create form is just,,, omg. Especially Claude Monet in particular. (and for the basics of drawing I learnt from my aunt!)
and honestly, just observing people. A lot of the time when I’m watching a movie or on a walk or even just talking with someone I tend to start looking at their face, and the different planes, how light hits it and how shadow interacts with it, where the shadows are harsher/softer……….people are wild man
I really hope that made sense!!!!!! I’ve never tried explaining it before and honestly, I’m not even really sure how I do it. I just sorta. Switch off and start drawing, yk? BUT I HOPE IT HELPED!!!!🫶🫶💞💖
in case that was all utter nonsense here’s a speedpaint that’ll hopefully demonstrate my process;;
I also have straight up screen recordings of me drawing but. I don’t think anyone wants to sit though that
thank you for the ask!!!!!have a nice day/night and SORRY THAT ENDED UP THAT LONG
