Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
It's so funny to me that I see fans lament that Dave was the perfect man and that Lane should have married him instead of Zach when the narrative definitely implies that Dave broke up with her (or at least stopped calling her so frequently that their relationship kind of ebbed away to nothing) when she started talking about it with the "marriage jug" business. One can hardly blame him for this as he was you know, practically a child, but my point is that he didn't offer and was perhaps uncomfortable with the idea (again! Perfectly reasonable!) while Zach, despite his many flaws, was onboard with Lane having some more traditional expectations and beliefs.
just thought about zach getting so jealous about brian writing a friendly song about lane after zach turned down the idea of doing so and instead wrote songs about other women that he got into a fist fight on stage and ruined the bands one and only shot at getting a record deal that never happens again for the rest of the show and then goes to lane and says “i don’t feel good. i feel bad. marry me.” and she has to say yes even though that’s completely out of character for her and she’s supposed to seem HAPPY about it. anyway
Am I the only one who doesn’t hate Zach? I remember him being rather funny. I don’t remember much about Dave really. Just the marathon Bible session.
Nah, I’ve seen some Zach supporters here and there. 🙂
Personally, I’m very strongly Team Dave. But I think a lot of the hate for Zach comes from people falling in love with Dave and his chemistry with Lane, just to have Zach get bumped up as his replacement when Adam Brody left. It felt a little shoehorned, and almost like Lane was being forced by the narrative to settle (just like in every other aspect of her life 😫😔). I honestly think that if we hadn’t met Dave first, I wouldn’t have minded Zach so much. He still wouldn’t have been my first choice for Lane, but having that direct comparison with Dave doesn’t do his character any favors. The writing for Zach and Lane’s relationship did both of them a disservice, tbh. It’s almost like the writers didn’t even care if they were happy or not.
i always spell zach van gerbig's name wrong on purpose. i'm like 95% sure it's spelled z-a-c-k canonically, but i just cannot accept it into my reality. i just ignore it, which is very unlike me because i'm usually a huge stickler for spelling things right. but that dude is a zach with an h.
Season 3 Zach would totally suggest the band do a cover of "Stacy's Mom," and then change the lyrics to "Rory's Mom" every time Lorelai was in the audience.
Although I like him and really enjoyed his (brief) relationship with Lane, I find your Dave hate so amusing 😂 and kind of refreshing too, don’t ask me why (but probably because most people seem to idolize him, as the perfect, superior boyfriend incapable of doing any wrong EVER in his life). Overall, I agree with your opinion that he simply wasn’t on the show long enough for this take to be proven wrong.
Look, if he was like Marty or Jason and was just around for a handful of episodes and that was it, I wouldn't care, but the extent to which he is so worshipped and idolized and treated as the most perfect man alive, with so many fans loudly insisting that EVERYONE has to worship him and one is not allowed to pass on singing odes to his flawless nature, has pretty much turned me against him hardcore. He and Lane had a very junior high school esque relationship that mostly consisted of trying to get her mom to let them go on a single date. I'm not sure why this is relationship goals since it's barely a relationship in the first place. The idea that's battered around that Lane's life would be perfect if she stayed with him, her contraception would never have failed, she would have become a gigantic rock star makes absolutely no sense to me. How is this average white boy going to accomplish all of that? And that isn't enough, his fans also beg for Lane to leave her husband and kids and reunite with him in order to "fix" her life, even though she doesn't appear to think her life sucks. Her entire destiny appears to revolve around this guy that she doesn't appear to remotely even miss. IDK, I just think it's lame.
Also, Zach had his flaws and he messed up quite a bit, but he did make the effort to get to know Lane's mom, he didn't judge her for wanting them stay a virgin or try to pressure her into sex, he turned out to be a supportive husband and father in the end, and they seemed to have a pretty healthy marriage in the AYITL era. All of that stuff takes work, especially for someone who was not inclined to do it in the first place, and it was a lot harder to do than Dave's shenanigans.
I like you, Zach. I like you as more than a bandmate and more than a friend. I like you. I have liked you for some time now, and I don't think this feeling is going to go away. I just thought you should know.
