ALEXEI NAVALNY
By now, many will have heard the devastating, unbelievable news of Alexei Navalny's reported death in a Russian prison. Navalny's wife, Yulia Navalnaya, says that she awaits confirmation of these claims.
If this news is confirmed then several things are necessary:
1)- Vladimir Putin bears sole responsibility for Navalny's presumed death
2)- The presumed death of Alexei Navalny is premeditated murder, following on from the confirmed murder attempt in August 2020
3)- In response, Russia must never be welcomed back into the international circle until Putin is removed from power
4)- Putin's international arrest warrant must be extended to include systematic assassination of Russian dissidents
5)- All of the Russians involved in this presumed crime must be sanctioned and blocked from entering as many countries as possible
6)- The international community must launch a comprehensive investigation into the deaths of all Russian politicians and other dissidents going back to 1998 and present their findings to the International Criminal Court
7)- The international community must demand medical records to substantiate Russia's "investigation" into Navalny's presumed death
8)- The international community must continue to investigate and expose the domestic crimes of Putin's regime, including the domestic terror attack of August 2020, when Putin tried to murder Navalny with the banned chemical agent Novichok
9)- Putin must be designated as an international terrorist
If this news is confirmed, nobody can doubt that the Russian regime has a state program of assassination used against its own citizens. Each and every one of these murders is a crime against humanity. Putin must never be allowed to rest again. He must face maximum pressure from all quarters and renewed investigations into the previous murders of Russian dissidents.
I give sincere condolences to Navalny's wife, Yulia Navalnaya, his children, Daria and Zahar, his parents, friends, and his loyal supporters who have continued his work during his unjustified imprisonment.
It is Russians like Navalny who have spoken out against Russia's slide into tyranny, terrorism, and moral disgrace. Putin is the worst stain on Russian history since Stalin. He will get the punishment that is coming to him for this and for his many other crimes, including his ongoing crimes against Ukraine.
Please share this post in support and memory of Alexei Anatolyevich Navalny, the bravest Russian of the last decade.

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has died in jail.
Alexei Navalny mocked Vladimir Putin regularly — in Russia, dissent can come with lethal consequences
Alexei Navalny, who was found dead in prison on Friday, got under the skin of Vladimir Putin like no-one else.
The 47-year-old exposed the so-called "strongman" of Russian politics for what he really was — an authoritarian president fearful of free elections, free speech and a free press.
An insecure man who is terrified of the truth and of justice, who crushes any form of dissent through violence and incarceration.

Who was Aleksei Navalny?
Aleksei A. Navalny, the outspoken activist who died in prison on Friday, was born on June 4, 1976, according to his website, and grew up outside Moscow to liberal parents who opposed Soviet rule.
Starting his political career as an anticorruption blogger who organized street protests, Mr. Navalny mobilized a generation of young Russians through social media and rose to prominence for investigations into Russia’s elite.
Here’s a look at Mr. Navalny’s career:

In Russia, such tributes to Alexei Navalny - typically laid at improvised memorial sites - not only serve as a symbol of mourning but also as a form of protest in a country where even the mildest dissent can risk police beatings, arrest and detention.

Alexei Navalny had a vision of a democratic Russia. That terrified Vladimir Putin to the core.
Alexei Navalny was a giant figure in Russian politics. No other individual rivalled the threat he posed to the Putin regime. His death in an Arctic labour camp is a blow to all those who dreamed he might emerge as the leader of a future democratic Russia.

Очень очень тяжело. Невыносимо. Это не протокольное сообщение. Просто помните, мы в этом ужасе вместе, и выкарабкиваться из него нам тоже надо вместе. Навальный - невозможная потеря, невосполнимая. It's very, very hard. It's unbearable. This is not a protocol message. Just remember, we are in this horror together, and we need to get out of it together too. Navalny is an impossible loss, irreparable.
Maria Pevchikh on Twitter, mourning the loss of Alexei Navalny yesterday. The news is devastating for me and many others who wanted to see Russia become civilised and democratic. I can only imagine the pain of Navalny's family, friends, and supporters who ensured that his work continued even after he was falsely imprisoned and repeatedly tortured by Russian prison officials.

Alexei Navalny's wife, Yulia Navalnaya, addressed the news of his presumed death today at an international conference in Münich. The pain for Navalny's family today is unbearable. Please keep Yulia, Daria, Zahar, Navalny's parents, and his brother Oleg Navalny in your thoughts and prayers. And our leaders must now hold Russia fully accountable for this endless list of despicable crimes.

Utterly appalling news.
What pains me even more is how slow the international community continues to be, not even sanctioning a single person on Navalny’s list. I have seen plenty of Tweets describing sadness, and I believe those people. It would be hypocritical for me to attack messages of anger and sadness on social media.
However, those who have the power to freeze Putin’s assets-- yet do nothing more than call for accountability and a full investigation from the same government that poisons people and lies about it-- deserve condemnation.
You cannot tell me that governments capable of shutting down an entire country through curfews and lockdowns cannot likewise shut down the foreign bank accounts of Putin’s henchmen. Yet they have not done so, despite Navalny publishing a full list of names, including Alisher Usmanov and Roman Abramovich, several months ago.
Navalny’s condition is now so grave that he could suffer a fatal heart attack at any minute. Apparently, a spike in potassium levels indicates serious kidney damage. This reminds me of Russian composer Pavel Chesnokov, who died of a heart attack caused by malnutrition. Navalny has been on a hunger strike for several weeks. Prior to that, he survived a Novichok poisoning.
Navalny press secretary, Kira Yarmysh, said bluntly on Twitter that Navalny was dying. Daria Navalnaya, Alexei’s daughter, wrote on Twitter in English, “Allow a doctor to see my dad.” When we talk about Alexei Navalny, let us not forget that he has a wife of 20 years, Yulia Navalnaya, as well as a daughter (Daria “Dasha” Navalnaya), and a son (Zahar Navalny).
The cruelty to Navalny’s wife and children is unimaginable and unacceptable. Remember that this comes from the same Putin who pretends to support family values when he needs votes from Russians.
Since it has taken this long, will the international community now sanction every member on Navalny’s list under the Magnitsky Act? Will President Putin now be ostracised from international committees, and Russia removed from the “Human Rights” Council at the increasingly farcical UN? If Navalny does pay the ultimate price for standing against corruption, several Western “leaders” will share the blame.

Please think of Daria Navalnaya and her brother, Zahar Navalny, being forced to watch Putin torture their father to death in broad daylight.
Wickedness such as this is designed to traumatise and terrorise Russians, so that they remain compliant to the Kremlin and see resistance as futile.
Currently, around 450 000 Russians have pledged to protest in defence of Navalny’s life. I hope this rises above the required 500 000, because as doctors warned yesterday, Navalny could die at any minute.

This is Yulia Navalnaya, wife of Alexei Navalny, being detained at the protest on 23 January. She has once again been arrested.
We have to give this woman credit. According to Alexei Navalny’s Instagram, she was instrumental to his recovery from Novichok poisoning. Mrs. Navalnaya had to spend 5 months in Germany, after suddenly hearing from Kira Yarmysh that her husband had been poisoned.
Imagine the trauma of this.
Navalnaya returned with her husband to her native Russia, only for Alexei to be snatched by police on spurious charges. She herself has been placed under police surveillance for absolutely no reason, as she reported on Instagram.
Twice Mrs. Navalnaya has come out to protest in defence of her husband’s freedom, and undoubtedly the freedom of all Russia. Today is the second time that she has been arrested for exercising this lawful and moral right. Remember that the Navalny’s have 2 children-- one of whom, Zahar, is still legally a minor.
Isn’t it interesting that Putin likes pontificating about family values, yet tried murdering a husband and father using a chemical weapon? He didn’t think about family values then. And since the Russian Education Ministry claims to care about the wellbeing of minors, does arresting the mother of a young boy help his wellbeing?
No doubt Yulia Navalnaya, who has behaved with great dignity in spite of the abuse, will return once again to protest against Putin and his injustices. This week, Navalny will stand trial, and could be sentenced to a penal colony for a minimum of 3.5 years. The effect of this inhumane treatment on his family is too appalling to consider.
Given that Putin only cares about family values when he is using stolen money to buy luxury apartments for the mothers of his mistresses, it falls to the West to take a stand against this false arrest, false imprisonment, and false judgement of Alexei Navalny.
