Regis Drabble
@smallmandrakr-zcribblez tagged me in a post originally posted by @sparkingstoryinspiration in a list of sets of 3 things to start a little story on which I thought was super cool!
I chose #2 on the list which including a library of old books, a kooky professor, and secret passages.
The option gave me major Regis vibes and I was trying to think of a character and couldn’t so I decided to use one of my favorite D&D characters I’ve made, Kalisa (who is shown below).
I honestly had some fun with this. It was a nice break in my day to sit down and write a little something that didn’t need to be continued.
Word Count: 545
Warnings: N/A
Kalisa, when not running about through the forests, hunting for her food, living off the land, often finds herself in libraries and bookstores. She allows her fingers to glide over the book spines until she finds one out of place. Grabbing the book that seems like it is about to fall off the shelf, she notices it’s a piece on poetry.
“Now what kind of monster would leave poetry in the history section.” Kalisa says mainly to herself. She then suddenly hears something similar to gears turning off to the left. And that is when the bookshelf in front of her slides open, enough for someone to squeeze by. She first stare’s down at the book then back up at the bookshelf, gingerly placing the book back exactly where she found it.
She pats her leg feeling her dagger strapped there, gaining a bit of confidence knowing she has something to defend herself just in case something goes very wrong in his passageway. She steps through passed the books and does see a lever to her left and pulls it, the bookshelf closing behind her. Taking careful steps through the passage, she makes note of the floor just in case she runs into any traps she could set off.
The passage way goes on for a while, spiraling staircases, winding hallways, that is, until she reaches an arched doorway, opening up to a large room filled with bookshelves, alchemy tables, a desk, and a… man?
The man is dressed in a dark overcoat, dark pants and boots. His hair is short, falling wherever it wants it seems, gray and white in color.
Instinctively, she lets her hand brush over her dagger, just in case, even though she’s trespassing too.
Probably not my best idea, she thinks to herself as the man looks up from his book and looks over his shoulder at her.
“Well, it seems like there is someone else at this school that cares about order.” He turns around and smiles at her. She looks at him, a bit confused.
“You… don’t want me to leave?”
“Quite the contrary, I actually would love to know how I do not know you. I’ve never seen you in any of my classes, let alone in any other portion of the campus besides the library.”
That’s it, she thinks to herself, I’ve been caught.
“Well um, actually… I don’t go to this University.”
“So, if I am understanding, you’re a hunter, judging by the bow on your back,” she nods her head, “and you come here when you’re not out in the forests, to read.”
“Yes.”
“And you haven’t been caught yet?” He asks mainly himself. “Quite impressive… but no doubt easy for you if you roam the wilderness unseen by other living things.” She watches as he goes over to one of his many bookshelves and starts looking, probably for a specific book. “Would you like to sit a while? This is my personal collection and would love to share it with another who appreciates literature.” He looks at her with a smile, making her manage to smile slightly.
“I’d… love to,” She walks over to where he is, “I’m Kalisa by the way.”
“Professor Emiel Regis Rohellec Terzieff-Godefroy. But you may call me Regis.”

Reading?
I wish! The last Expanse novella is on my list, and Olga Tokarczuk’s two books as I’ve read none. The plan for 2020 is to leave writing aside and read books again, so. Wish me luck.
