mineru's flashback to rauru's sacrifice also made me cry a lil. like we Knew what happened, bc [gestures at link's arm], but Seeing it was different.

also props to the animators/character designers for making the zonais' expressions so evocative while still being very inhuman. i don't know if that makes any sense bc I am very tired, but Rauru going from "looks like a cinnamon roll" to "but would actually kill you" in nothing flat was Nice.

did NOT enjoy anything about getting her construct, literally just autobuilt one of the Long Bridges I made in the fire temple and used them for every single puzzle.

I've beaten two temple bosses so far and they're a dichotomy of boss design: queen gibdo: presence is foreshadowed, there's a preliminary version of her fight to introduce her mechanics, fight gimmick involves strategies we've already been taught (except for the light thing, but that's whatever), companion ability is essential colgera: comes out of fucking nowhere, sudden enforced aerial combat, no indication of fight gimmick mechanics beforehand, companion ability is like a literal fart in the wind

like I don't have a real PROBLEM with either of them, I beat them eventually, but if I hadn't already been using a guide* I would NOT have known how to beat colgera

*I'm bad at puzzles, sue me

                 there  wasn’t  much  of  ANYTHING  zelda  liked,  in  regards  to  dark’s…  less  than  ideal  lifestyle.  if  he  wasn’t  partying,  he  was  getting  himself  involved  in  reckless  things  that,  more  often  than  not,  weren’t  legal  or  healthy.  it  wasn’t  as  if  he  had  anyone  to  live  for,  after  all.  no  doting  mother  to  scold  him  for  stumbling  through  the  front  door  at  god-knows-what-o’clock.  no  strict  father  to  punish  him  as  a  means  of  teaching  him  a  vital  lesson  when  he  does  something  he  shouldn’t.  such  is  not  to  say  he  doesn’t  WISH  he  had  one  or  the  other…  ideally  both,  like  most  NORMAL  families  he  bitterly  eyed  as  he  wandered  down  the  streets,  but…  life  just  didn’t  work  that  way  for  everyone.

                         “  —  besides,  i’m  not  about  to  get  in  trouble  with  your  folks.  take  some  aspirin  and  drink  some  water  for  that  hangover  i’m  sure  you  have.  “  is  it  strange,  though,  that  he’s…  somewhat  comforted,  and  touched,  by  the  fact  that  she  seems  almost  DISAPPOINTED  he  wasn’t  there?  that,  somehow,  someway,  someone  has  come  to  enjoy  his  presence  past  how  much  alcohol  he  was  bringing,  and  how  decent  of  a  bed  partner  he  was?  part  of  him  wants  to  stay  on  the  phone…  ask  how  her  night  was  with  him,  how  she  liked  the  fruity  drinks  he’d  bought  her…  if  she  still  had  the  leather  jacket  he’d  draped  over  her  shoulders  to  combat  the  night’s  chill…

      why  does  it  matter?  even  if  her  voice  DID  offer  a  sense  of  tranquility  he  hadn’t  experienced  since  he  was  little.

          sometimes,  he  questions  the  extent  of  his  loyalty  to  the  dark  king.  nay,  rather---  he  questions  it  all  the  time.  in  the  moments  he’s  tearing  apart  families,  destroying  fragments  of  history.  in  the  moments  where  he’s  putting  his  own  life  on  the  line  for  a  cause  that  isn’t  his  own.  in  the  moments  where  he’s  being  put  down,  tossed  around,  and  beaten  within  an  inch  of  his  life  for  being  anything  other  than  a  willing  and  submissive  subordinate.

                                     ---  and  in  moments  like  this,  where  his  body  is  bruised  and  bleeding,  yet  even  THINKING  about  succumbing  to  his  exhaustion,  even  a  LITTLE,  may  very  well  cost  him  his  life.  this  man  --  this  strangely  garbed  sheikah  warrior  who  had  imposed  on  his  duties,  is  proving  to  be  an  annoyingly  WORTHY  adversary.  dark  was  crafted  by  dark  magic  in  the  image  of  the  hero  of  time,  and  bestowed  his  OWN  unique  abilities  on  top  of  the  savior  of  light’s  admirable  set--------  yet,  even  with  an  arsenal  of  impressive  skills  under  his  belt,  the  obstacle  is  still  very  much  there.

It had been two years of their lessons, their sneaking about. The princess' lessons grew longer and more intense, but she always had time for Malum, when he came. His speech, writing, reading and numbers had come along too - he was far smarter than his master gave credit for, and Zelda saw that. She was happy to be the librarian to his studies, though sometimes they just talked, even played. Sometimes she read to him... but today there was a mischievous glint in her eyes as she pulled him to his feet in her room. She was reaching that troublesome age where thinking of him made her face warm, though she didn't fully get why.

"No more boring lessons today, I've got something new to teach you. If you ever want to fall in love and impress someone special someday, you MUST know how to dance!"

If there was a will, there was a way, and Zelda had seemingly uncovered the SECRET to teaching the unteachable. Malum was a FAST learner, indeed, if not a bit TOO eager to learn all that the princess was willing to offer. The Hylian alphabet, he could read, recite AND write, his speech improving by the day-------- he was hardly the young, emotional boy who had stumbled onto the castle grounds that day anymore.

Now, instead of rapid-fire questions and regurgitated half sentences, he'd gotten quiet. Reserved. Asked what was necessary and spoke when addressed, only to fall back into a contemplative SILENCE as Zelda continued her teachings.

" Fall in love? " All too willingly does he allow her to tug him up from their routine spot on the floor, starlight browsed raised noticeably and inquisitively as he awaited further instruction. A cliche thought, question BURNING the tip of his tongue that he felt compelled to ask, but what, exactly, WAS love? From the books he'd buried his pale little face into over the years, there hadn't been a single modicum of an explanation within them about the concept of ' love ' and all it entailed.

Zelda made it sound... nice, like something he SHOULD yearn for, one day.

" You are special to me. I will just fall in love with you. " Spoken with a finality that almost made it SEEM like he understood the weight of his words, but alas, there was little up there in the tank. Zelda just seemed like the most obvious, EASIEST choice, right? Unless she had another in mind... " Teach me to dance. I will impress you. "
