taz ethersea is really just like. hey listen. this story is about grief. it’s about anger. it’s about mourning the things you had to leave, but if you hadn’t left you would not have survived them. it’s about hating where you came from but knowing deep down you can never, will never be from anywhere else. it’s about the need to become better than a past you still wish you could go back to. it’s about “we celebrate the burial of the architects of our unjust world” and “I do not want to be only resentment but when I see your face resentment is all that I am” and “I just wanted you to see it once.” it’s about finding a way to become something new in spite of every weeping ache torn into you by the past. it’s about the stubborn and deliberate persistence of life in the face of a hostile environment. ethersea says this story is about hope. it’s about consequences. it’s about effort. most importantly it’s about how nermal’s pile has a sale going on right now don’t miss out on this week’s deals

thinking about ethersea so here's some stuff about the pcs and the end of the world that they knew. i dont know if someone else has already put this together but here's what my brain says.

amber is a continuation of the problems from the world of the past. how can she not be? she was born before the apocalypse hit--early enough that she lost everything she had, late enough that she had to figure something new out. the only thing left for her is her hatred of the blinksharks, a problem from before that has stuck around until now. she quite literally continues this cycle of worlds and gods and destruction by jumping through the portal and becoming the god of the creatures that she hated for so, so long. not even to mention the scene where she takes the place of the girl standing her ground against koda and destroying him; something something these gods made the world the way it is and they're still causing problems...that has to mean something, right?

devo is an advocate for the world that was lost. this is clearly seen in episode 35 with his discussion with tolliver; he argues against the reckless destruction of what's left for fun, and instead wants to preserve as much as possible for the generations to come after. maybe they can't really go back ever, but they can keep as much as possible, can't they? he's the voice of hope for the people who were lost. his place as the one to give the prophecy in world B is also him calling all of these people and their families to take care of themselves, to save themselves from destruction, so that at least something can survive from this world's annihilation.

zoox is the world beginning to heal. he's a copy of the people who came before, made by those same people, sure, but he's got something new. he's magic. his magic is him and the creatures living within him. he's a person made from this ocean that is everything that is left. the sea that destroyed the world in the first place is now making its own people, trying to create new life, trying to start over again. maybe things will never be the same as before, sure, but that doesn't mean we have to entirely give up, and zoox is a perfect representation of that. he has an eagerness to live and make this world a new and better place.
