3 ships / First ever ship: So this is an awkward one - I don't think I really have shipping impulses? That said, Terra Ignota's Carlyle/Dominic dynamic managed to capture my obsession like nothing else ever did, so I guess that's as fine an answer as any.
Last song: For increasingly strict standards of what counts as a 'song' we've got Neuchatel from Mad Rat Dead, I Expect You To Die 2's opening theme, Louie Zong's Wizard Disco, and Carpenter Brut's The Widow Maker.
Last movie: Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise, a 1987 anime movie by some of the people who'd later work on Evangelion, set in a fictional and lovingly worldbuilt universe that's going through its own space race.
Currently reading: Just finished reading Convenience Store Woman and going to head into either Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth or Auel's Clan of the Cave Bear next.
Currently watching: I don't watch a lot of tv but my partner has introduced me to Futurama, and I'm having a blast so far.
Currently consuming: Water, I guess?
Currently craving: financial stability would be cool, failing that I could go for some white chocolate.

zul-gurub: If you could design a RW DLC, what would you consider a more natural extension of the base game?
I've been thinking about this a bit trying to make something coherent and I think the answer is that you need to have the focus on expanding the world and then let the features come from that. Add planet-crossing caravans and then add the features to let the player become one. Add cloistered machine-gods and then let the player become their servants and receive their gifts. The Royalty thing is sort of an attempt at this but they need to exist outside the fucking random quests and rewards they give you, idunno maybe I'm just unsatisfiable.
Rimworld guy keeps releasing expansions and I guess people keep buying them and reviewing them positively but when I try them I think man I don't think Tynan realizes what makes Rimworld fun.

💣 Bala + Frae \\ 🍬 Robyn
💣 fraewyda wears her heart on her sleeve, both for good and for ill, so when she gets stressed out, everybody around her is going to know it whether they like it or not. she’s quick to apologize after the mood has passed, but that doesn’t really make her any less frightening when she’s lashing out over every little thing that is not actively making her less stressed...
💣 bala, on the other hand, plays his emotional state much closer to his chest; he’s sweet and likable bala, after all, ever serene and ever agreeable, so what business does he have getting worked up over petty things? absolutely none, that’s what, so you’ll never see him getting stressed about anything, and if you ever did, no you didn’t. he’ll just take all of those negative feelings that might lay others low and gather them all up, into a tight little ball in the center of his chest, and that is where they will stay until he can find a secluded enough spot to scream them out.
🍬 robyn once thought he knew what it was like to have a family, but he’s no longer so sure. is it something he wants to have? he’s not so sure about that, either. at this stage in his life, he’s fairly certain that any family he’ll ever have will have to be found in the company of others, but can he afford to let himself get close enough to anyone else for that sort of relationship? he just doesn’t know. maybe one day, he hopes, it won’t trouble him to think on it.

If Zedyr was a deity I would leave honey (for tea, if He's so inclined), a handmade amulet of protection made of fine cedar carved with His symbol to show my devotion via handiwork, and a beautiful polished stone with flash, like a moonstone or labradorite, to catch light and shine like He does and for Him to build with. (Counter-question: if Zedyr was a deity, what would His portfolio/spheres be?)

Honey: the product of diligent labor, care, and shelter - for sweetness, and a natural preservative
Cedar: the material of tall ships’ masts and cedar chests - for protection against rot/attrition/apathy, and sure guidance
Polished (rather than cut) stones, especially moonstone: for following one’s own inner cycle of creativity and rest - waxing and waning
The blessing granted: you will find rest from your labors, and it will be enough.
——
Zedyr is a minor deity called upon for help with anything involving cycles of activity and rest, as well as protection against rot, wear, and corruption.
Originally the god of generativity and renewal, he has become tied to the seasons of the year, moon phases, the cultivation cycle and leaving fields fallow, the resting period required for developing bread dough, and anything left to cure, dry, etc. Prayers might be said to him while kneading dough, canning vegetables, or before starting a period of intensive work.
His associated element is earth.
He is also associated with silver, as it requires regular polishing to keep its brightness; the sea, tides, and by association the moon and (in some sects) the turn of the heavens; autumn and the harvest season into winter.
His festival is held just before All Saints’ Wake, and involves singing and dancing, as well as communal efforts to mend clothing, furniture, structures – and relationships – in preparation for winter. It is followed by a sennight of rest and contemplation.

I think a big factor here is that the market for RTS games has largely diffused into other adjacent markets, and with a generation between there and now it'll be even harder to reestablish a player base. I don't fault a company for not wanting to make one. Maybe a small studio with passionate devs?
oh, for sure. MOBAs have really captured a huge chunk of that space, and to be fair, they’re a lot of fun! i love me some dota 2 from time to time. and if you want strategy, like if that’s the thing you love most about RTS gameplay, you still have tons of great options. the whole strategy game space is still going really strong
also, from what i can tell, an RTS is just fundamentally kind of persnickety as a software project in a way other kinds of games (platformers, for instance) aren’t. you need a strong ai, but you also need good multiplayer, which in this day and age means hosting, matchmaking, and anti-cheat protection. that in itself is not at all trivial, and a little harder to do if you’re a small outfit. but RTS games need to be carefully balanced, they need tons of assets, and ideally they’ll also ship with a pretty fully fleshed-out single-player campaign. that’s a lot of work, for a format that has never been the most popular, and nowadays is less popular than it used to be.
i don’t really begrudge devs’ focus on other genres, but i do weep bitterly for the warcraft 4 or homeworld 3 we will never get to play

Friday Bullet Points about WoW Classic Again
I’ve done this topic before, but WoW Classic is the gift that keeps on giving in so many ways and there are a few items I felt deserved a mention but maybe not a whole post.

Classic is as classic does
So on with the list.
Holly in Azeroth
For me the big news of the week here was the announcement that Holly “Windstalker” Longdale has moved to Blizzard as a “Principle Game Producer” to work on Wo…

In the world this world is the shadow of (there should be a word for this. It should be one syllable. That's how elementary/atomic a concept it is) you can summon your bike to your location with a whistle. Like the horse in elden ring.

I've played so much video game and listened to so many music I have strong memories of listening to certain songs in certain video game places. Video Games by Lana Del Rey in Zul-Gurub. Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites by Skrillex in that Pandaria island with the celestials. Caroline Polachek so hot you're hurting my feelings while playing Mythgard on my phone. Lorde A World Alone at the trolls past the Sacellum of Boethiah. On it goes.
