I'm curious why you dislike Mats Ek? Is it personal? Something about his style? Or...?

Disclaimer: I don't know much about contemporary technique and the bones of it, I've only taken 3 years of it and don't really know anything about the different schools so this is based entirely on my opinions of what I see and my ballet-intensive knowledge.

It's his style, especially his connection of his movements to the music. The vast majority of the music he uses is much more legato, smooth and connected and flowy while his choreography is jerky and stiff and sharp so it's all very disjointed and disconnected. It feels as though the beauty of the music is wasted. His choreography always has a feeling of...slouchiness, I guess? I'm not sure how to explain it, except the dancers just seem shlumped over, so it's a weird visual of slouched but too sharp at the same time. He also tends to turn things into caricatures and cartoonish in a way that I find unpleasant, case in point his Giselle. Idk, I can see why people find him to be a genius, but I'm not one of those people. To put into perspective, I would say my favorite contemporary choreographers are probably Ilya Zhivoi, Alvin Ailey (obviously lol), and Matthew Bourne with Ksenia Zvereva a close fourth.

And this is by no means the first export failure of this Russian advanced military plane, the Su-35.

Russia is actively promoting the Su-35 fighter jet in the Middle East, but as of 2021, it has had no contact with the United Arab Emirates regarding the potential orders of such aircraft.

This fact was revealed by the Russian news agency TASS, based on the statement of the head of the state company Rosoboronexport, Alexander Mikheev, during the Dubai Airshow 2023 international exhibition.

At the same time, this official comment very much shows how the Russians now try to “soften” the reputation of their weapons, which was tarnished on the battlefield during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“Su-35 fighters have proven to be very effective aviation complexes in real combat, under conditions of serious countermeasures of electronic warfare and anti-aircraft systems”, said Alexander Mikheev.

“We are discussing cooperation with a number of partners on a wide range of products, including the Su-35. We are actively promoting these aircraft on the world market, in the countries of the Middle East, flexibly adapting to the requests of potential customers. At the same time, we did not have contacts with UAE after 2021,” he continued.

From these words, it can be concluded that at this stage the Russians rather recognized the failure to export their Su-35S. Apart from the Russian Federation, only two countries use these aircraft: China has 24 units, and, in fact, Iran also has up to 24 units (although, Iranian data is highly approximate).

At the same time, the list of countries that were initially interested in the Su-35 and later changed their minds about its purchase is already quite long.

For example, Egypt initially ordered 24 units of Su-35S under a $2 billion contract, but canceled the purchase at the last minute. Therefore, most likely, it is the “Egyptian” Su-35 that the Russians are transferring to Iran.

Algeria unexpectedly changed its mind to buy this type of fighters in January 2022. A month later similar order was cancelled by Indonesia.
