Hits could take her around the city, but when Angel wanted a drink, she wanted a drink. It didn’t matter whose territory she was in – eventually, if all went according to plan, the whole city would be Irish territory. The bar she stopped in didn’t seem very welcoming to outsiders, unfortunately. She had her drink, and it was as strong as she requested it, but she could tell that all eyes were on her, counting down until she left. “Look,” she muttered when she heard a woman’s footsteps approaching her. She glanced down at the drink in her glass, sighing. “Give me two minutes and I’ll be out of your hair. Just let me finish this…”
Tumblr media
It had taken her some time to relay the information to everyone that the Triad was meant to be working with the Irish. There was only so much she could do, so many people she could see and come in contact with. She also had yet to meet the people who were involved with the Irish. it wasn’t as if her and Alexander were trading photos of all of their members in their meetings. So it was right for her informant to tell her of the fresh face was showing herself at the bar. It took a lot of gall to show up in a place where she didn’t belong. She took her time walking up to the stranger, poise as always as she made her presence undoubtedly known. “Two minutes?” She raised her brow. “That’s hardly enough time to finish your drink and another. Why don’t you stay for awhile? I just want to chat, that’s all,” she shrugged, nodding over to one of the guards to block the door to keep her from leaving.

“Well there is something. I was at a bar recently and I got kicked out due to starting a fight.” He sighed, he knew it wasn’t the first time he’s been kicked out of a bar, and it probably won’t be the last time he was. “In my defense the other guy deserved it. He was being a creep to some girls and he wouldn’t leave them alone. But he didn’t get in trouble, I did. Now I have to pay a fine. It’s for $1000. Can I get a lone from the Triad? I’ll pay it back as soon as possible.”
Tumblr media
He piqued her interest when he began to speak. It always took Bohai a little longer to admit to his faults than anyone else in the Triad. She could sense it was because he was humble, or maybe he was just soft spoken when it came to financial matters. This was exactly the sort of thing she had been looking for when she would arrange meetings like this. She knew that the people in the Triad would be getting into fights or small tiffs with other people around the city— in fact she expected it. How were they supposed to show they were as serious as the other mobs if they couldn’t put the money where the mouth is? “No, you cannot get a loan,” she firmly stated. “If you believe what you did was right, especially for defending girls from a low life miscreant then I won’t accept giving you a loan,” she kept her face composed while she took a slow sip of her tea. “Expect the fine to be paid in full, there is no need to pay us back. We’re family. As long as you continue doing work like that you don’t own me anything.”

“I don’t care who’s turf I’m on, it’s still none of your business. I sign a non disclosure agreement with each of my clients. “ Draven sighed and pulled out a business card out of his pocket. He tossed it to her. He wasn’t afraid of her gun, he had been around the Italian Mafia long enough to know when someone was being serious or just trying to show off. He was pretty sure she was just trying to show off her muscles. “Now I am here to meet my client. Last I checked his name was Edward, Is your name Edward?”
Tumblr media
Taika didn’t like it when people were disrespectful toward her. Maybe it was all of the times they had taken her for granted. Though most everyone in the Triad had given her a chance as the dragon head, she found that people she tried working with were not so kind. She was a woman after all, why should they take her seriously? But throwing a business card at her to prove that he was something of importance? That was a step too far.
“Your client should have picked a better place to meet you,” she stated simply before drawing her gun. “I don’t care who the fuck you think you are, gwáilóu. Or about the non-disclosure agreements you sign. I asked you nicely once and I will not do it again,” her voice was laced with anger mostly, but there was still sophistication at its base. She drew a quick breath in before aiming her gun at the brief case and taking two quick shots at it. “Consider this a warning to think carefully about stepping on my turf again. Call up your little client and cancel your meeting. Tell him you need some time working out the holes in your case.”

Tumblr media
This wasn’t the first time she and Taika had played this game. That didn’t make it any less exciting, though. The fresh alliance between the Cartel and the Triad led to this experience for Monica, and, luckily, she wasn’t alone in the attraction; she was attracted to the Dragon Head, and the Dragon Head was attracted to her. She and Taika had been on the same page since their first meeting. This was all likely part of Anthony’s plan - just as frequently as Monica had tried to find dates for him, Anthony had tried to find dates for her. This was an inadvertent, but welcome, addition to their alliance. She had walked in on a meeting between Taika and Anthony (likely one that he’d double-booked on purpose), but it wasn’t long until they were sharing drinks and then much more.
Picking up her drink, Monica took another sip, her eyes remaining on Taika. She couldn’t help herself. She knew as well as Taika did that this could get messy, but Taika was stunning, and just what Monica wanted out of a partner. She wasn’t about to pass up any of these opportunities that arose, not when Taika was so busy, not when she spent most of her nights trying to win Luca D’Amore’s favor. God, what a tiring endeavor. These nights with Taika were just what she needed. “Well, what can I say…?” She hummed, tilting her head to the side slightly, taking another small sip of her drink. Then, she licked her lips, her eyes wandering down to Taika’s lips once again.  “I was born to please…”
Tumblr media
Refreshing. That’s what their relationship was to Taika. It wasn’t to say that she didn’t do romantic endeavors ever, she could have her pick at anyone she wanted truly. She was a wealthy, well respected woman who could snap her fingers and make people bend to her will. But there was no time, not when she had a whole city just out of grasp from her fingertips. Monica however had been a gem among all of the coal she had been sorting through. She seemed to fit neatly into each of the boxes Taika had constructed to weed out the ones she didn’t care for. Monica understood her position of power and respected it. She didn’t expect Taika to be around 24/7 or to commit fully. She was just glad she had found someone that could relieve her after a strenuous day of work.
Taika couldn’t help the smirk from playing across her features, there had even been a crinkle in her nose as the girl spoke. Sure, Taika was made of sophistication and grace— taught to be poise in every situation by keeping a neutral face, but something about Monica sparked an interest in the Dragon Head. Something she couldn’t exactly place at the moment considering everything else that was going on, but it was tangible in her grasp. The tension hung in the air between them as the woman spoke, knowing that the facade was bound to crumble at any moment before they gave in to every one of their desires. She caught her staring at her lips, spread thin across her face from that smile that sat upon her features. “This is all merely talk though, perhaps you’d be willing to help me out by showcasing your abilities. You just so happened to catch me at the right time, the night is young and I’m surprisingly free,” she paused for a moment. “Only of course if you are free too, though I would be willing to pay a pretty penny to see you doing your best work.”

“I might be, hm…?” Monica knew that she was correct - she was good at reading people. She knew that Luca D’Amore was an idiot, for example. And she knew that Anthony was working harder than he realized to keep control. With all of those siblings, Monica could understand why. Just as much as those two were those things, this woman was powerful. She could definitely command a room. It was such a strong aura that Monica knew that she should probably just leave the woman alone and get back to her regularly scheduled business. Despite that, she couldn’t bring herself to leave. Letting her own eyes run the woman over slightly, she returned her gaze to the other woman’s, smirking slightly. “Well, I think that depends on how you’d like to be helped… I’m pretty… flexible…”
Tumblr media
Every so often they would find themselves here. Pretending to be strangers in a bar overwhelmed by each other from their first meeting. It was a fun game the two of them concocted. Taika knew she was relatively new to the city and while allying with the Irish was the best move in terms of more established mafias, befriending one of the newer ones was also a smart play. Benefiting from an older mob and a newer one meant Taika had more access to resources and more access to things she couldn’t have figured out on her own. She wouldn’t deny the kind of help that the Cartel had given her either in terms of helping trafficking Diamond Dust. Of course there had been a steep price to pay for the help, but it was a price she was willing to pay if it was going to have any chance of thriving in this city.
Meetings with Anthony had led her to meet Monica, a woman who she seemed to have an instant attraction to. She wouldn’t have thought to pursue it if the woman hadn’t been as attracted to her the moment they met. There was a spark between them and Taika was there to fully ignite it between them. Now they found themselves here, at a bar pretending they had no idea who the other one was. All for the fun of it, that thrill between them that she couldn’t seem to get enough of. Sure, sleeping with the ally could end very very messy. But she wasn’t opposed to it by any means. Not when Monica was that hot. She raised her brow, a smirk quickly forming after it. “You don’t say,” her eyes thinned looking back to the girl. “That’s one of the most desirable traits for a worker in these times. Ones who are able to bend every which way to ensure their boss is satisfied,” she stirred her drink for a moment trying her best to keep her smirk to herself.

Monica’s hands coming together in front of her, she did her very best to keep her eyes on the woman’s face, as opposed to letting them run the length of her body. There was no need for her to be too obvious with her desires, after all. “Now, I never said that,” she murmured in response, a little smile tucking at the corners of her lips. The woman’s voice also had the aura of strength - when she spoke, people listened - Monica was certain of that. “In fact, I think it’s just the opposite… I think that you’re probably powerful enough to get anything you’d want done without any help.” She hoped that sounded like a compliment, as she’d intended it to. “That doesn’t mean that you don’t want any, though…”
Tumblr media
Taika hummed softly at the woman’s compliment. Had it been so obvious that she was someone important? Sure, while she was growing up the entirety of her community told her that she was something to be sought after. That when she spoke people would listen, they would even jump for the opportunity to do what she commanded. If she wished it, they would do everything in their power to ensure that it would come to fruition. Though she never let her power consume her. She remained humble and hard working to show to everyone that she was everything they had ever hoped she would become. “You might be correct in assuming that,” she added for a moment, letting her eyes give the woman a once over. She had seen the look she was giving her many times before, one that had desire painted all over her features. “And if you were to help me,” she paused pursing her lips. “How would you go about that?” Raising her brow before meeting the woman’s deep hazel eyes again.

Draven had an appointment with a new client. He was given an address in the territory that was currently occupied by the Triad. He knew it was a dangerous place for him. But if a client was willing to pay his absurd rates, he would meet them any where. As long as he was in and out without being seen he wouldn’t have a problem. However the client wasn’t clear on the address and he wound up wondering an alleyway, trying to find the place. He was about to call it quits and head home when he heard someone speak. He turned around to see that a woman had stepped out of a shop and was addressing him.
“Unless your the NYPD, I do not need to answer your questions. Even then I don’t have to. So why don’t you mind your own business and ignore me. This doesn’t concern you.”
Tumblr media
A half amused look played across her features and her brow raised as he spoke back to her. Did this man really just try to tell her to mind her own business? In her territory of all places. While the Triad wasn’t particularly known for violence, Taika was never opposed to keeping armed. Especially for situations like this, where all respect seemed to be washed down the drain before she even had the chance to prove herself. “Actually,” she started, “You’re on my turf which means it probably concerns me the most. Perhaps your wits will finally catch up to your mouth and you’ll realize answering my questions means you’ll leave here unscathed,” Taika lifted her dress slightly revealing the gun pressed against her thigh before staring back at him. “Now this time when I ask you what you are doing here, I expect an answer you don’t mindlessly give with a tone of respect.”

Bohai sat down and thanked her for the tea. Takia had always been so kind to him. The Triad felt like the family he had never had. They had become his brothers and sisters. It was better than any surrogate family he had in childhood.  He was grateful for what it provided him, even if it did get him into trouble every once and a while. He would still do anything anyone asked of him.
“Everything has been fine. I haven’t gotten into any major trouble, just the basic stuff. Should I expect anything major? ”
Tumblr media
It was her duty as the dragon head to provide whatever the Triad needed. They were like one big extended family and Taika could only hope that she was continuing to do enough to provide for everyone on this new adventure they had embarked on. She wouldn’t have been anything without the people who stood with her and gave her the endless support she needed. Sure, she was the head of the Triad, but a head could only get so far without the body. Taika knew and understood this, that’s why she gave special attention to everyone that she could. “That is such a good thing to hear,” she smiled before bringing her own cup of tea to her lips. She gave the man a gentle nod as she set the tea back down on the plate. “Is there anything you need taken care of? Now would be the time to say it while you have my attention.”

Arabella’s heart fluttered nervously within her ribcage as she stepped into The Dragon’s Den. This wasn’t the first time she had been there, to act as a mouthpiece for her mother, but the very thought of who her audience would be would make her face flush and stomach drop, especially knowing what she did of Liling’s ambitions. Her adoration of the Triad’s Dragon Head ran deep and as far back as she could remember, since she had first taken the reins of the organization and led them to take New York City by storm. Perhaps her feelings were foolish, child-like even, but when Taika Longwei was involved, Arabella just simply couldn’t come to grips with herself at all.
She made her way to the VIP section, sparing only the briefest glance at the staff as she walked by. Perhaps if she had been of a lower position, they would have thought to stop her. But with a face that had been plastered across the billboards of New York City, and a last name that tied her to one of the highest ranking officers among them, Arabella rarely had issues accessing the senior members of the Triad. Regardless, the sheer amount of slack they provided her was…unnerving, and something that the Dragon’s Head would need to know about. If it didn’t run so contrary to Liling’s plans, she might have made a decision to speak up about it. But for now, the oversight would be for her eyes and hers alone. Until there was an opportunity.
The model found her leader waiting, and for a moment she hesitated. But Liling had trained her well, had broken her in like a well-bred steed, and she found herself continuing onwards before she could let the doubt sink in again. Arabella plastered a polite smile onto her face, making sure that Taika could see her approach before bowing deeply. “Wǒ mǔqīn xiàng tā wènhǎo. Liling Li Liu fell ill last night, so she has sent me in her place, to be her eyes and ears, and to speak with her voice.” A part of her was afraid to look up, but the fear of what her mother would think if she botched this meeting forced her to be brave whether she liked it or not. “I hope I can be a suitable replacement in her absence. She did not want you to wait, given how quickly news has been developing over the past few days.”
Tumblr media
Some parts of Taika’s job were an unnecessary evil, though she supposed it was something that had come with the title she held. Growing up at her father’s side, she could pinpoint those exact moments when her father’s mood went from honest too proud. When everything was suddenly different in the way that he held himself and the way he addressed others. At first, she assumed that it was simply business. That he had to present himself in a certain way to get his point across. But she was quickly able to discern the difference between a meeting with someone he cared for and a meeting he was forced to have. Typically his mood switched when he had to meet with Liling Li Liu, an infamous member within the Triad’s ranks who was nothing short of untrustworthy.
Perhaps that is why Taika always had the same outlook with her meetings with the associate. That unsettled feeling in her gut whenever the woman was around. Her pride rising out of her as she bit her tongue on the things that had rattled in her brain. And though she had a distaste for the woman, the Triad prided themselves on being a family and those morals translated over even to the people she could not stand. She would have to remain loyal to the woman until she had solid evidence that she had been playing for another team. She could not act on a gut feeling, but she wouldn’t even know where to begin looking to find the fault in her ways.
She prepared herself for the meeting in the VIP lounge of The Dragon’s Den. Taika wanted to take in all of the last bits of peace she could find before her day would fully be ruined by the mere presence of Liling. She drew careful, deep breaths in trying to calm herself down before the woman arrived for their scheduled meeting. It was only when she heard the heavy door being pushed open that she looked over to prepare herself for the worst. And yet all she saw was Arabella Li Liu, the dazzling blue lantern who was nothing like her mother. As she spoke, Taika could feel the tension in her shoulders release knowing that she someone managed to escape dealing with the terror that was Liling.
There was a smile that made its way across her features as the girl explained away the reasoning for her mother’s absence. While the real reason may not have been told, she couldn’t help but feel relieved to see the bright young face standing before her now. “Arabella,” she finally broke the silence making her way over to the girl to place a warm hand on her shoulder. “Even though I am the dragon head, I can assure you I won’t bite,” she gave her shoulder a small squeeze prompting her to look up at her. “It is always a joy seeing you,” she reminded the girl before bringing her hand back to herself. “Come, we’ll get some tea before we talk business. Unless you have a time restraint, then I understand. But I would love to catch up, it’s not often we find each other in the presence of one another.”

It wasn’t often that Taika found herself to explore the city on her own. There were so many things that needed to get done and taking leisurely strolls about and discovering the hidden gems that the city had to offer weren’t on her list. Every so often, if she was lucky enough, she would have time for herself. Time where she didn’t have to be the dragon head with thoughts constantly turning about. Time where the world didn’t feel like it was placed on her shoulders. It was in those moments that perhaps she was her truest self. So when she found herself in the presence of this… Stunning woman she couldn’t help but shed her scales a bit. Taika had even found herself at a loss for words as she spoke those words mellifluously like honey. “Well that depends, do I look like someone who needs any help?” She challenged.
♢ @taikalongwei ♢

Monica could tell a powerful woman apart from the crowd, and this woman definitely fell into that category. She wasn’t sure where her power lied, but, nonetheless, she could practically feel it radiating off of her. She let her eyes roam her body, somewhat discreetly, before the corners of her lips tucked upward. “What can I help you with today, ma’am?” she greeted, her voice slightly more sultry than it usually was. She simply couldn’t help herself.

@dravennappo // reach for the sky
Tumblr media
The border of where Little Italy ended and where Chinatown began was something that had frustrated Taika the entire time she had been in the city. The two territories were too close for comfort for her. Especially with the Triad’s alliance with the Irish that had partly been made to take control over more of Lower Manhattan. While she wasn’t certain on some places around the city, she knew that the alley outside of her tattoo parlor wasn’t Italian territory by any means and to find this man standing outside of Lǎohǔ Wénshēn wasn’t exactly something she had been expecting. He was an older man, carrying a briefcase in her alleyway looking as if he was looking for someone. Whatever was in that briefcase she had to figure it out for herself stepping out of the shop to confront him. “You don’t look like you belong here, gwáilóu.”

Bohai made sure he was on time for this meeting. He was always nervous when it came to meeting with the Dragon head, although he never really had a reason to be. He was dressed in one of his best suits, it was one of the first designer ones he had been able to afford. He checked himself once more in the glass door before stepping into the dragons den. He was immediately shown to Taika’s table.
“You wanted to see me.” Bohai bowed his head. “What can I do for you?”
Tumblr media
The importance of her role had really started to dawn on her. While she had grown up under her father’s wing as he taught her everything that she knew, there wasn’t quite anything like putting it into practice. Sure, she knew that she needed to be present in the lives of everyone involved in the Triad, but she could feel herself beginning to wear. It had only been a few months since she had taken over the position, but she was determined to keep a good face with everyone that she interacted. That meant sitting down with everyone in her reach at different times and getting a progress report of such. She wanted to know the gritty details of all of those that served her so that she could better serve them. The Triad had always prided itself on being a family, and Taika had no intention on letting it stop now.
She let a smile play across her features for a moment before she motioned Bohai to sit with her. “Always so formal, Bo. Please sit,” she commented pouring a cup of tea for him. “Tell me how you have been? How has the golden mountain been treating you so far?” She inquired with a raise of her brow. “I hope you have only gotten into the right amount of trouble, but now would be the best time to tell me if you’ve gotten into terrible trouble so I can see to it that it will no longer be an issue for you.”
