Tamboly is announced on the shortlist for the Professional Portrait category of the world’s biggest photography competition, the Sony World Photography Awards.
Tamboly’s series, “Stereotypes” was selected from 230,103 images from 186 countries, the highest number of entries in the awards’ nine year history and a 33% increase on 2015
In his shortlisted series ‘Stereotypes’, Tamboly made portraits men with tough facial features mostly in a feminine historical hairstyle. The goal is to raise awareness of social stereotypes and illuminate how much social media determines the was we see another human being from a different background from ours. He made these portraits with different characters with mixed backgrounds and ethnicities. If we cover the bigger part of the picture and try to imagine how these men look, we will have a very different imagination from what the portraits show. The project started in May 2014 and ended in march 2015, mostly shot in Berlin with cooperation from Catwalk Makeup Academy Berlin.
Tamboly will now compete to win the category and the prestigious L’Iris D’Or/ Sony World Photography Awards Photographer of the Year tile and a $25,000 (USD) cash prize plus the latest Sony digital imaging equipment. The winners will be announced Thursday 21st April.
Each year the Sony World Photography Awards uncovers the best contemporary photography in the world and rewards and recognises both emerging talent and seasoned photographers.
A panel of experts from the World Photographic Academy judged the Professional competition anonymously and photographers were judged on a series of between 3 and 10 images.
Tamboly’s images, along with the other shortlisted photographers, will be shown at London’s iconic Somerset House from 22nd April 8th May as part of the 2016 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition. Tickets are now available at www.worldphoto.org/2016exhibition
Talking about all the photographers shortlisted in the Professional competition Scott Gray, CEO of the World Photography Organisation and organiser of the awards said: “We are extremely pleased with our jurors’ choices this year. Despite the increase in the number of photographers, and the amount of imagery that required judging, this year above all others we have witnessed a wealth of powerful imagery in both the traditionally strong social documentary categories as well as the art and conceptual work. It is wonderful for the medium that it can offer such rich diversity.”

I was selected again for “200 Best Ad Photographers Worldwide” 2016/2017 by Luerzer’s Archive and the great part this time is that I was the photographer with most selected images which is amazing. The jury chose 16 pictures of mine. That is so exciting and I’m so grateful to reach this level of achievement. I would like to use this occasion to thank all friends, family and followers for their support and be sure that you are a part of this success, thanks for having faith in me!!

Photographer of the Year, Gold title winner by One Eyeland
I won the title “Photographer of The Year” by “One Eyeland”. It’s an honor to win the main title among all those great photographers who took part in this competition. Have a look at the magnificent works from the other photographers. Last year I received two silver awards in the two categories “People” and “Fine art”. That is a nice development and makes me feel accomplished that hard work always pay off one day. I would like to thank all the models and stylists that took part in my projects and the friends and supporters who always help me out to get the best out of me. You guys rock!!
