           ❛ killing – what?!❜  for one BRIEF, fleeting moment, scarlett’s heart raced. she could feel a sickening pulse on her tongue, as the taste of bile trickled it’s way up her throat and into her mouth. NO. there’s no way this woman standing before her could possibly know about the yankee soldier. it was an act of self-defense - something she did to save not only herself, but her FAMILY. the lives of t e n others were on her hands, and she was not about to let one nasty man put their lives in jepordy. 

                                 but there was no POSSIBLE way marjorie could know. she wasn’t there. the only other person who knew about it was melanie, and melanie had stayed just as SILENT. as quickly as it had come on, scarlett’s sick feeling had left her, and in return came a slight feeling of anger, followed by swift annoyance. it was a look that graced scarlett’s face often - in fact, it was a surprise that HARD lines weren’t set deep within her face to show for it - a deep, hard look that showed deep disapproval and anger.

          ❛ miss finn, honestly, you don’t expect me to believe this beliggerence coming from your mouth, do you? i hardly see how you would be knowledged where the soul is concerned.❜  as if automatically, scarlett’s hands CURLED into a ball - deeply wishing they had her old rosary beeds to clutch. many times, scarlett had secretly prayed - wished, even, - that her act of killing would not leave her with bad karma or bad faith. but more often than not, scarlett pushed the thought so FAR into the back recesses of her mind that it was all but FORGOTTEN.

                                             there was NOTHING to be done about it now.

                                                           there was no reason for it to concern her now.

                                                      so why should she BURDEN herself with the thoughts.

         ❛ and i, for one, do not believe that statement at all. and i wish to no longer be burdened on the subject, as it has no concern to me.❜

Let's be real here, when it comes to Novalee and Forney having kids together, they were both nervous as fuck. Novalee because the last time she was pregnant, her boyfriend abandoned her at a Walmart in a city she had never heard of before. Not to mention the sheer about of pain she went through, and she had a fairly difficult and potentially dangerous delivery (seeing Willy Jack when he wasn't there, thinking Willy Jack broke a TV screen, passing out, etc.) - and Forney because, while he knows the fear has no power and would never actually happen, he's afraid his love for Americus would become less and he's afraid that Americus would feel less loved by him (let's not forget that he delivered Americus, and has always ALWAYS had a deep bond with her). But over time, in a couple of years, they would decide to venture down that road together and at least try to have a baby.

I also have a headcanon that, (in the book, the library is burned down - in the film, he gives up his post as librarian, so I'm going by book canon here), that Forney works with the city and they're able to rebuild the library and it's just this very grand piece of work, and the amount of pride that he has is extremely high and one of his greatest accomplishments in life as far as he's concerned. And when Novalee isn't working at Walmart or doing photography, she sometimes comes in and helps him out - and of course, she's always trying to keep up with his list of ever growing book suggestions for her. Always trying to expand her mind and truly believe she's not just a piece of trailer trash that she has always believed herself to be.

during arlise’s first dinner with edmund, they had oysters with their main course. this night was special for many reasons - first and foremost, it was the start of an unspeakable bond between the pair. it was a. night she could only DREAM about happening before.

arlise kept all of the oyster shells from that night, and has kept them in a bowl ever since. the oysters act as a great centerpiece as well as a conversation piece. it is a more unique aspect of their home, and it holds a very loving memory.
