Fabulous story. Recommended.
Lady John Grey (Outlander fic)
WIP
Canon-based and then twisted. Elements of canon taken and woven into a different story.
What if they were all younger when Jamie was assumed lost at sea when the Euterpe sunk? What if he was gone for considerably longer - long enough for John and Claire to form a strong bond ... and a family unit with William? What if on Jamie's return, he finds his wife happily married to Lord John and expecting his child?
So far, 7 chapters posted. Starting here
Chapter 1
Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Chapter 4
Chapter 5
Chapter 6

Yeah well I thought I wouldn’t in protest because the fuckers didn’t make an LJ spinoff which was the far better choice. But I probably will
Are you planning to watch blood of my blood?

I think all their jealousy way back in S4 when he had the measles is all gone now.
I’m always gonna be so bummed the show couldn’t spend a little more time on Lord John and Claire’s marriage. In previous seasons I’d never watched a show that’s less afraid of taking its time if it has to, even letting a single scene go on for a very long time without cutting away when most TV execs would never dare let anyone do that. It would have been more interesting if the two of them had time to almost start getting used to this before the shock of Jamie coming back and their relationship is just so great to watch.
I love that Claire is kind of unnecessarily cold to Captain Richardson for asking her to spy on her new husband. Yeah he turns out to be a bad guy, but he’s on her side. And this is after she’s decided to stay in this time primarily so she can keep helping the rebel cause. 😂
It’s so sweet how Lord John’s monologue about the deer seems to describe the only way he knows how to love a man - safely and without expectations, only fully giving his heart to totally unavailable men - and certainly how he was grateful for Jamie even if he couldn’t have him, but it’s also about Claire. “Think of the deer, my dear.” He didn’t marry her to try to possess some part of Jamie, as much as it might feel that way to him when he learns everything, and this will never be a typical marriage with the typical obligations. But he’s grateful for her, too. It’s like every time he calls her “my dear” it’s a private joke alluding to the deer and this understanding between them.
He says nothing about her not wearing his ring after that moment he gently hands her into the carriage. He’s so delicate with her, except when he just can’t be, because just like Jamie she only responds to force sometimes. In their conversation in bed and the one in the carriage, he talks to her more openly than he probably has with anyone his whole life.
Claire is understandably so apprehensive when she first properly meets John and now they just. Unequivocally love each other. It kills me.

Yes I agree with the other posters. John’s sexual assault was after Culloden and therefore after BJR death. Also importantly after Hectors death.
I think the relevance of John’s sexual assault comes into play in the bedroom. It gives a physical dimension to John’s bottled up ness. It’s a very typical Gabaldon style where she ties emotional and physical together.
outlander book fans I require your conversation on a topic (minor spoilers)
1. (tw jack randall) okay so we all know what jack randall did to jamie, but only people who have read the books, specifically lord john's series, know that john was sa'd by one of his higher-ups at culloden. I mean randall was there and that he's a p3do so are we supposed to suspect that jamie and john share that experience?
2. this is just another tangential thing, but in the episode "providence" in s4 when john tells brianna he knows what she is going through and she interjects "no you don't" it makes me want to scream. bc anyone who has read john's books knows that he sincerely does and anyone who hasn't prolly saw that and was like "yeah tell him girly"
3. anyone who hasn't read lord john's books doesn't know *why* he's at ardsmuir in the first place and that blows my mind bc jamie's comment about "whatever you did to get sent here I hope you deserved it" hits so different
4. percy. I won't say anything more than that before S7-2 wraps but just...percy
so yeah idk I think lord john is by far the most in-depth character in the series and starz did him dirty by not making the spinoff about him

Arrggh! No kiss. Again.
Percy doing okay here. I think he’s getting the warm and soft eyes thing going. Tough job but I think Michael Lindall pulled it off.
John being Mr Frosty putting on his emotional armour with reinforcements.
Let’s see how they go. LOL 😂
