I've actually not gotten any hate or backlash for this fic. Which is not to say I don't fear it a bit. A:TLA is thankfully not as full of raging crazy antis like some other fandoms are. People can get crazy resourceful in order to be assholes. Which is why I took some precautions before posting this fic. The ao3 acc and this Tumblr are actually not my main lol. And even so, all my social media is fandom social media, and even if antis got hold of my real name, I'm basically an internet ghost, they would have nothing to dig up on me.

So what I'm saying is, antis are asshats and their opinion is worth ass, but they can be pretty damaging asses, so block anyone trying to start shit with you, and take necessary precautions if you want to be extra sure they never have ammunition to fuck with you.

Share the work you love, in most cases the amount of lovable people coming your way to support you will by far surpass the asshats trying to tear you down.

Update and Questions Regarding a Next Update.

Hey guys! So, Ive got a few asks, asking how I am and what's happened, and why have I vanished from the face of the earth.

The last few months have been a bit of a mess. In good and bad ways?

Family sorta found out I don't wanna be part of the cult anymore, which led me to have a 3 day long breakdown. They took it... surprisingly well, maybe in part because I managed to get the house to my name before the shit went down.

I got into drama college, fun, took a few prep classes and then had to decide to wait another semester or two to join because shit's expensive and the fam is NOT gonna help on that. Acting is for sinners yadda yadda.

Grandma is going into early dementia and I've gone through a streak of uncontrollable sleepiness for which I'm getting tests.

I got a bit of a temp job and I'm working on opening a little store of handcrafted goodies.

But you guys are not here to hear about my life, that was just me ranting gratuitously. You want to know, is A Prince's Ruin gonna be updated? The short answer is: Yes, eventually. At least i want it to.

I have a list of basically how I wanted this fic to go on and eventually finish. According to my plans, it would end after another 10 chapters, which I had more or less planned out. But in all the months to follow, I've grown more and more self conscious of whether this planned development would be worth the wait. Would it be dissapoiting? Would it not be everything you guys wanted?

It started as my self indulgent smut fest, and then i got invested and got serious, and I'm like: all I've written so far is horror, porn, and campy sex comedies, I'm not versed in making angst end in a fulfilling way???

So, I guess what I'm asking here, is for you guys to indulge me, and answer a few questions for me? I guess to fine tune the rest of the fic into something not shitty?

What do you guys expect to see?

Ozai's torturous death?

Aang and the gaang finding about the shit going on at the Fire Nation?

Team up with Aang to take out Ozhit?

More dark smut?

Zuko once more, not catching a single fucking break?

Uncle Iroh saving the day?

This are just prompts, you literally can come here and suggest me anything. Just, send me and ask with your requests and I'll probably consider it. If not, it will at least get the creative juices flowing to help me write for this again.

It's funny, it started with a dream about a week after I started watching Atla on Netflix. The idea that became the fic came before I even finished the show.

Azula manages to get more points in the dad fucked my face and my pussy and made a mess of me category while Zuko gets more points in the bdsm categories since daddy dearest loves to punish him the most of the two

I think the main appeal in Ozai/Zuko is how fucked up it can be (I mean if I wanted a healthy ship I wouldn't look at the incest, with age difference and abusive one :v), like I can see this whole obsession for approval going into darker territory. Ozai wanting to keep Zuko dependant and obedient, and the best way he finds is being physical with him. The boy is confused and scared, because on one hand he knows this is wrong but on the other having his father's attention and "affection" is everything he ever wanted. Bonus points in fucked up if Ozai mentions how similar Zuko and his mom are, but he is different, he is a good boy who won't abandon him.

10000% agreed anon! Zuzai just hits ya where it hurts and it hurts so good.

With that said I often like to play a game when I enter fandoms. First I find what ship has the most anti hated properties and then I proceed to ship it.

Ultimatley I jumped on the Zukka craze when the atla renaissance began but then my fucked up head started down the rabbit hole into wonderland.

Zukaang hit like 2 of the categories, age gap and incest.

But then mamma mia here I go again with the daddy issues as they activated one summer night after a fairly pleasant phone call with my dad which made me second guess his entire character for the nth time this year and I immediatley went looking for some fics of my fave character (Zuko at the time) getting raped/molested

Found a shit ton of Zhaoko (Zhao x Zuko) before I stumbled upon Zuzai and my soul lifted into the heavens and I proceeded to read as much as I could of the two.

Ultimatley Zuzai hits all the marks for everything antis hate in shipping and THEN MY ASS FOUND THE PIECE DE RESISTANCE WITH OZULA AND ITS BEEN HIGH SAILING EVER SINCE

Haven't seen any updates from you in a while. Hope you're doing well :).

Anon (and everyone I left hanging) I'm so sorry I have taken such a long hiatus. I actually do have a reason why the long wait but uh, it may be a bit oversharing, so get ready lol.

So uh, my home life is not the best. Nothing you would need to call the police about, I'm in no physical danger. But it is very emotinally taxing. Basically, my family is VERY involved in this religious group, I hesitate to call it a cult but let's face it, that's what it is. And recently it's come to the point where if I don't spend most of my day in "church related activities," they threaten to take what little privacy I already have. My mom once found a drawing of an erection penis I made and threatened to kick me outta the house, and banned me from doing art, since it tempted me to sin. That kinda shit.

Sooooo, it's not a very creative environment to be around. And from time to time I just, dry up, shrivel up like a dusty raisin and my brain refuses to do the work needed to write. And that's why I have periods when I churn out writing like hot cakes, and then suddenly dry up. I exploit the good little moments I have and then the creativity well just, dries.

My therapist says doing shit I like will help my case so, I'm working on at least trying to churn out chapters every 2 weeks? That may work better for a while. Until I finally find a way to get out of this hell house.

Could you expand on your writing process during Ozai & Zuko's wedding in A Prince's Ruin because I loved the way you conveyed the emotions and also because it pulled on my heartstrings reading it . You conveyed the wrongness and Zuko's confusion stunningly in the story so thought I would ask

This is gonna sound bizarre but before I write this kinda scenes I tend to close my eyes and like, immerse myself in the scene and what kind of emotions would be involved.

Most time as writers we haven't gone through the explicitly same situation as we're writing, but I like to grasp the core of it and try to relate it to a thing I have experienced. This scene, for example, I know what it's like to be trapped in a situation where you would rather be anywhere else, and it slowly dawns on you that you can't say or do shit to get out of it. Or craving for an affection even if it's given in the entirely wrong way.

So I tried to make a realistic portrayal of the storm of emotions that would occur? First confusion, a bit of shame because let's face it, Zuko's a boy who's always been pushed to be strong and ruthless, and he's in a situation where those things are being pulled away from him, where he feels like he was not enough. And then Ozai springs the wedding shit on him and like, on one hand he's been taught all his life that his father is right, and can't do wrong, that Zuko will always be the problem. But Zuko's also aware that there's something wrong here, that he doesn't want this, even if, as a prince, he's been somewhat sheltered and innocent, he knows enough to distinguish what's right and what isn't. But to admit what's really going on would be too hard to accept, so he'd rather believe he's the one thinking wrong, he's the one that should accept this. And he tries to scramble for ways on why this is right, on how to make it right, but there's always that voice in his head telling him the truth, trying to make him face what is happening, and he can't accept it, so he'd rather completely dissasociate with it, or lie to himself and believe this is good.

Idk if I'm making any sense? I can clarify if you have more questions. But this is the usual way I go about it.

I quite often get comments on my fanfic that say “I don’t want to quote your whole fic back at you” but you know that? Please do! Because when you quote the parts that you like and add your own comments - whether that’s an in-depth analysis or a series of emojis - just for a second I get the experience of seeing my own writing through someone else’s eyes. I get the tiniest vicarious moment of being the reader rather than the writer. And I love it.
