Big announcement, I'm going to cause glaciation. That's right folks. Love it or hate it. You're getting glaciers. I'm bringing glaciers back. And you cannot stop me.

stoned and autistic at a party trying to make conversation: I find the comparative lifespan of organisms so interesting. Spiders are comparatively long lived animals. Female black widows can live up to 3 years but their male counterparts rarely live four months. Some tarantulas live upwards of 20 years. The longest lived spider was around 43 years old when she was cruelly assassinated by a parasitic wasp. Domestic rats have a lifespan comparable to female black widows. To put things into perspective, there are spiders that remember a pre-pandemic world but it is likely every rat on earth was born post-COVID. There could be a spider out there born when Reagan was in office.

This isn't even just about the classes and information you get at college, though that's obviously important too. College gives you things like easy access to libraries and databases and certain academic papers, but importantly it forces you into the proximity of people who come from completely different backgrounds, it gives you perspective on things you probably wouldn't have considered otherwise. I might be paying off student loans forever, but I am glad to be learning, everyone should have that chance, college should be free for everyone forever
this is why you will never catch me in the anti-college movement

Part of the reason I'm so adamant about encouraging people to get comfortable with bugs, my own interests aside, is because we cannot have a bright, solarpunk future without them.
A green future is not a bugless future. It is, in fact, a fairly bugful future. If you care about ecological stability, then you need to start with bugs, because they're the most at risk with our current use of pesticides.

Me: this goldfish commercial has me fucked up
My friend: I also find this commercial fucked up
Me: *hit with the sudden and overwhelming feeling of affection and comfort that comes with the reassurance of goodness that friendship provides*

Hey don't cry, okay? We just found Attenborough鈥檚 long-beaked echidna, a species thought to be extinct for the past 60 years.

There's this stupid fucking AI commercial I've been getting based around a dad finding the stupid round fish bowl (actually terrible for goldfish btw) empty and he thinks the cat ate the fish, again! They emphasize it's happened before! So he just goes out and buys a new one to try and shield his kid from the pain of death or what fucking ever. But then it turns out she brought it to school and shit but that's not important. Every time I see this ad I can't help but think of how shitty it is, its just so cynical, it shows the fish as just a replaceable object, when the cat eats the fish it's simply replaced by the next one, now made easier with the help of ai. That's so fucking sad to me. I know most people would say it's just a fish, but it's still a living creature. Some goldfish can live for decades if given the proper care, and even if they couldn't, they're alive, they feel pain, and yet they're treated as disposable.
The whole ad just feels like it's fucking taunting me. As if it wasn't bad enough that ai is contributing a ton to pollution and climate change, now it's just rubbing my face in the devaluation of nonhuman life in the name of fucking "progress" it just makes me so sad. If you have a pet fish tell them I love them, tell them they're a person to me, even if they can't hear, even if they can't under, it still means something

The family Channichthyidae are more commonly known as icefish, and they are the only known vertebrates that lack hemoglobin in their blood as adults. As a result their blood is white and their skin appears translucent.

every day i am just floored by humans ability to do good. we have these choices before us and the terrible ones make headlines, but i have no doubt love is so much more potent when it counts. so blessed to be a human being, because all human beings trot with this potential and i hope to honor it

"these researchers published a paper on something that literally any of us could have told you 馃檮" ok well my supervisors wont let me write something in my thesis unless I can back it up with a citation so maybe it's a good thing that they're amplifying your voice to the scientific community in a way that prevents people from writing off your experiences as annecdotal evidence
