Another Orange Side Theory

This has probably been said already but I'm putting this here so I can come back to it in the future.

I think that the orange side has something to do with instant gratification. He could further symbolize Thomas confronting parts of himself he’s afraid to face. Orange in particular would represent desires or impulses Thomas suppresses and the consequences of repressing them and/or giving in to instant gratification rather than something that will help him in the long run. Thomas could start to ignore his mental health rather than work to fix it.

And I think the reason why Logan has been specifically targeted is because his anger benefits Orange because it creates a “crack” in Thomas’ decision making. Anger shows Logan’s control is strained or breaking down, which is why Remus pushed him so far in WTIT and specifically used Logan’s vulnerability to being ignored against him. This disruption can weaken the logical filters that usually stop people from making impulsive urges. Logic makes Thomas stop and think, like when Logan redirected Thomas’ anxiety to coloring, puzzle making, and dancing. But if Thomas’ thinking slipped, Orange can then slip through this crack, encouraging Thomas to seek immediate comfort or act on urges he’d usually suppress. When Logan is angry or stressed, Thomas is emotionally vulnerable—he might want relief or comfort in that second because he is desperate. Orange could seize this moment to offer that “easy out” via impulsive actions that feel good short-term, even if they’re risky or harmful long-term. 

In simpler terms: Orange could see Logan’s anger as a doorway—a moment when the careful mental order breaks, allowing impulses to flood in and push Thomas toward instant gratification.

I think right before Nico called Thomas, Thomas was going to delete his contact or block him, so he could get rid of the itch of waiting for Nico to respond. Instant relief. 

Types of things I think Orange would control:

Avoidance through escapism. Thomas might repeatedly choose activities that distract him from his problems but don’t actually solve anything. Examples: binge-watching, excessive video games, scrolling social media endlessly. Like when he played word crush during the wedding to avoid tackling how he really felt.

Acting on immediate emotional urges without thinking about consequences. Examples: abruptly ending friendships, impulsively quitting commitments (like how he left in a hurry to see Nico instead of cleaning his apartment), reckless spending, or lashing out in anger or frustration.

Constantly putting off important tasks or self-care in favor of easier or more fun activities. Examples: skipping therapy or appointments (or making a therapy appointment all together), ignoring deadlines or goals, neglecting physical health. Like how he went to the wedding instead of the callback. I think that was an impulsive decision to make himself feel better about himself as a person.

I also believe this would explain why the symbolism of biting into an apple of the tree of knowledge keeps popping up. Specifically, the temptation. It would also make my Four Wise Monkeys theory make sense.

Do: Orange, Thomas' impulsiveness. He is the desperation for instant gratification and comfort. //Makes Thomas AND other sides do things they normally wouldn't during times of high stress.//

I think Orange could have a bunch of names. Temptation, desire, impulse, stuff like that. But I personally think it would be Zeal.

This could also explain why Janus was persistent in saving the "when is it enough?" question for another time. When is enough self-care actually enough? I think orange can turn that 'self-care' into avoidance. And Janus doesn't ACTUALLY want Thomas to end up relying on avoidant behaviors to avoid tackling his declining mental health. Yk, because Janus does care.

Impulse is the counter to logic. The color orange can represent warmth and caution.
