We have to talk about the sexual assault allegations against Ciaran.

For the full information about the assault allegations, check this twitter thread from the victim. I will only be summarizing and paraphrasing here.

In November of 2015, this anonymous twitter user, who considered themselves a friend to the Front Bottoms, was hanging out with the band on their tour bus after a show. They were left alone with Ciaran on the bus, and during that time Ciaran touched this person in a sexual manner despite their verbal protest. He then proceeded to rape the victims mouth after the victim rolled out of his bunk and continued to protest.

A year later, the victim confronted Ciaran about what he had done. Ciaran didn’t deny the claim, in fact he admitted it was true and he knew it was wrong, but blamed what happened on his alcoholism and otherwise excused his behavior.

Ciaran at first refused to tell the rest of the band, saying that he would be fired if they found out. After pressure from the victim, Ciaran claimed that he would tell the band what happened, which the victim later found out was a lie, as when they brought it up with other members, they said they had no idea about what had happened.

The victim reached out to different band and crew members in multiple ways over and over again, and was either met with excuses, empty promises, or silence. The band claimed that, at the time, they could not fire Ciaran as they were contractually obligated to tour with Blink-182 and could not find a replacement for Ciaran in time (despite having 7 months to do so).

Eventually, the band did fire Ciaran, without contacting the victim in any way to discuss the decision with them or confirm/deny whether his firing was in correlation with the assault. The band never released a public statement about what Ciaran did, why they fired him, or whether they supported his solo career.

The victim says in their statement that they didn’t want to make the situation public. They preferred to have it handled privately, but instead the band turned a cold shoulder to them and acted in a way that implied they wanted the whole thing to go away without any consequences to them or Ciaran. the victim has only gone public with the accusation as a last resort.

We cannot let this die out without consequences.

Not only is what Ciaran did despicable, but the Front Bottoms as a band completely fumbled the handling of the situation, and have buried this knowingly for four years. I cannot stand behind TFB on this—they put the well-being and growth of their careers over the life and suffering of a sexual assault survivor. It is sickening to me that they let this go on for so long.

Please, if you care about sexual assault survivors and justice, visit the twitter thread, boost and retweet it, and tag The Front Bottoms. Don’t let them think that they can continue to bury this and carry on their music career as normal.
