Back for my yearly pre-birthday post
Hi there, It’s 8:39 pm, so I’ve got a few more hours of being 23.... 23 was... well, yeah. It’s crazy, 24 is right around the corner. There’s a lot to reflect on, write, and speak about. I’ll collect my thoughts later. There were lots of things that I wanted to do before 23, but thar’s another story. Some of the more “fun” and less serious ones: make cookies inspired by television shows I’ve enjoyed for years. Been slacking on that for whatever reason, but I’ll get it done. On my own time :).
Tonight, I’ll prepare for tomorrow. Haha, I have work. Fun note: My supervisor and I share a birthday, wooo!

Hey Tumblr
Longtime no see. Just wanted to pop in and say my little brother’s turning 18 in 11 minutes and my older sister turned 25 two weeks ago. Ah, time. Gtg, baking a cake.

Wow, 2 hours 40 minutes till I turn 21 :O. Where did the time go? It’s crazy how much I’ve aged since starting this page. From a wee 14-year-old High school freshman to a college junior.
I’m 20!!
Happy women’s Day?!!🤗

Carifest 2019
On April 27th, I went to this event at the University of Maryland called Carifest. It was a celebration of Caribbean culture and its roots. They served traditional Carribean food, played Carribean and African music, had a fashion show, and even did a skit about two siblings visiting their grandma in Trinidad and learning more about their heritage. The night was very entertaining and enjoyable. There were also several dance and musical performances. The celebrity guest was reggae artist Shal Marshall. While I am not familiar with his music, it was very delightful to be surrounded by so much culture and such good music. Participating or simply watching events such as there always brings a smile to my face/energizes me and it’s nice that Arts Scholars encourages us to attend these creative events.

Stamp Art Gallery
Yesterday I went to the Stamp Art Gallery at the University of Maryland for the first time. I'd see glimpses of the art but had never stepped in. There wasn't much description for a lot of the sculptures, but the paintings and other installments typically had solid background. One of the sculptures which immediately caught my attention was the one titled "Nebuchadnezzar", whom was a Babylonian king. It featured a protruding feet under what seems to be coal or some type of minerals. The matericals consisteted of things such as coal and obsedian. If I were to take a guess I'd say it represented one's conquest for valuable things such as coal. The most noteworthy part about this piece, to me however, is the amount of detail put into crafting the feet. Thia goes for everything in the gallery. I can only imagine the amount of time it took to craft everything. Seeing the pieces put into reality even more so how much time I need to dedicate to my ArtsFest pieces over the next week.

One Woman Play
On Wednesday, I went to a one woman show titled "Never knew I was Black till I came to America" at the University of Maryland's Nymburu Culture Center. In this play, Anna Mwalagho details her experiences as coming to the United States, her experiences back home in Kenya, getting into comedy and much more about her life and that of others. The show was a mix of monologue to give background on what would be acted out and also her actually acting out all the parts. For example, she acted out the role of one of her friends during her [the friend's] visit to Ghana and her perspective widening interactions with it's peoples. other aspects of the play that weren't too traditional was how interactive she was with the crowd. During a scene change, she had a short dance session in which she thought members of the crowd some sancea. All in all, the show was very, relatable and interactive. I can really appreciate the time and effort people take in honing their craft and following their goals. She touched on things such as her troubles with getting people to see that doing theatre is not just for entertainment, but also her career. I can see how that's troublesome and have thought about difficulties like that myself (especially when considering my creative ideas).
