ROOM TO RENT IN NJ NEEDED DESPERATELY

I haven't talked about my situation publicly, but I'm really fucking sick of living in a motel where everyone screams at each other and abuses their kids all day long. I still feel like I'm living at home hiding from the wrath of my parents.

I am looking for a room to rent in a house or apartment share. I can afford $850/mo, utilities included. If in an apartment/roommate situation, my $850 must be an equal fraction of rent & utilities. I need to stay in NJ for at least 2-3 more years so I can get on Medicare (federal) instead of Medicaid (state). I would like to stay within Middlesex or Somerset county, so I don't have to find new doctors, but I'm flexible on location. Backstory: I became homeless in 2022 and have been in shelter placement through state social services since. The legal lifetime max they shelter you is 1 year, unless you meet their "Hardship" requirements, which I do 'cause i'm disabled. However, Social Services is very eager to close my case, so I have some sort of might-lose-the-room crisis every other month. I qualify for state rental assistance, TRA, but no one accepts it and its budget does not reflect the housing market. I'm on SSI now, but that's still not enough even for subsidized housing. My name is TeaKay, I'm Disabled, queer, and I use they/them pronouns. I'm really shy but try very hard to be kind, friendly, and caring, and I do like to be social once I get used to people. I have trouble keeping personal spaces tidy, but I will make sure to clean up after myself in common areas (though i need a long break between doing a thing and then cleaning up after it.) I like to cook, sew, sing, draw, and play video & tabletop games. I love outer space, art, anime/cartoons, and comics/manga. I have many stuffed animals. I don't have any pets but would like a service cat in the future. I have a few medications that require refrigeration and a lot of food allergies, but the worst one is fish and gluten. I cannot be present if fish is being cooked. I will need to use my own dishes and cookware that must stay separate to avoid cross contamination with fish or gluten/wheat particles. I also have severe digestive disease and am in the bathroom a lot. I'm not used to living with peers so there will be a large learning curve and adjustment period. I have a large fabric stash in storage that I would really like to make into things once I find somewhere to live. I also struggle with stairs.

What is one to do when drowning in depression and horrid life circumstances? Join as many tabletops as possible! Here’s my shiny new Hobbit OC, Aster Gamgee, for my friend Ari’s Adventures in Middle Earth campaign! She’s essentially a Druid (scholar level 4 with all the nature-y stuff picked out). She’s Samwise’s great great weed auntie and apprenticing under Gandalf. Currently she’s gotten pretty beat up in her first fight storming evil wizard Gorlanc’s keep with her new adventurer friends. The two comfort items i picked for her are a solid walking stick (one which i own irl and is sitting in my car, which some asshole teenagers nearly stole because I still don’t pass as an adult at 32 lmao), and a fluffy pillow— in this case a dragon stuffie because Aster’s obsessed with them. I also colored the plush after my OC Revvy who was in Ari’s She-Ra campaign. ♡
