Hey question actually more of a opinion. In eclipse Edward constantly worried about Bella's safety with the werewolves even when he let her you know all the precautions he took. He just completely forgot the fact that a while before his very own brother Jasper tried to kill her... Because of a paper cut. Edward didn't help really. He just made it worse (sorry Edward) and a paper cut is a very human thing to happen so wouldn't Bella be safe with the werewolves? They don't have a family/pack member trying to kill her ( not until BD).
Hoo boy, yeah, this has always bugged me.
Again, I think SM was going for the standard "vampires and werewolves hate each other" stuff that a lot of media that includes both employs. She didn't invent it, it's pretty standard for the genre. But by making her main vampire family white and her "werewolves" (that aren't actually werewolves) Indigenous, it veers into racism, whether she meant to or not.
Because yeah . . . the wolves are not more dangerous than the Cullens. The excuse here is what happened with Sam and Emily, but that was a pretty unique set of circumstance and has not been repeated. He didn't attack her, he just phased when she was too close. He tried to back away but she stepped forward. Tragic accident, no malice involved, he wasn't trying to hurt her let along kill/eat her! The purpose of the wolves is to protect humans. That's their whole deal! They protected her from Laurent and Victoria in New Moon!
Meanwhile . . . Jasper attacked Bella. He was trying to drink her blood, which would kill her. He lost it over a papercut. Edward had to fight the urge to kill her for a long time. And other than Rosalie and Carlisle, all the other Cullens have killed people. It's objectively much less safe with the Cullens than with the wolves. So Edward's insistence that young werewolves are dangerous comes off a vampire being prejudiced against werewolves, and because of the particular choices she made with the ethnicity and social background of her characters, also feels like anti-Native racism whether she meant it to or not.

Idk maybe Alice didn't go as EXTRA as she does cause there was a potential newborn vampire army after Bella (how is it always about her?) and during the party time they had no idea who was the creator/leader
we were so robbed of a halloween party hosted at the cullen house in both the books and the movies. you just KNOW alice would've planned the FUCK out of a halloween party. edward in the most pretentious costume you've ever seen (some niche 18th century poet. bella and alice had to convince him to even dress up at all, so this was the compromise), alice in a gorgeous, historically accurate joan of arc costume which everyone spends the whole night complimenting and wondering where on earth she got it (carlisle's antiques collection. knowing him, it's probably the real thing), and jacob turns up 2 hours late in a shitty vampire cloak, white face paint, plastic fangs and the biggest shit eating grin you've ever seen. edward spends most of the night glarring at him from across the room while standing in the corner pretending to sip from his red solo cup. god, what a missed opportunity.

Yeah @panlight especially with Emmett but I think it would have only been the 3 Edward Esme and Carlisle cause in BD we were told by Edward that Rosalie and Emmett took over a decade to be barable to be near to. So probably while Emmett was starving Rosalie was focused on well you know making out with him
Hey I was wondering how the hell did Carlisle manage these newborn vamps cause like except Bella no one skipped the newborn stage so how did he do it
Interesting to think about, isn't it?
I think Edward would be the most difficult because he was a) managing him alone and b) hadn't done it before. However, Edward's mind-reading might have been helpful here? Just in the sense of if Edward is feeling overwhelmed by thirst he could get out of his own head and read Carlisle's mind instead and that might have been helpful? I think Edward was also just fully on board with the vegetarian idea at first, so horrified by the vampire stuff, so scared, so alone, that he wanted to do well and make both Carlisle and his late mother Elizabeth proud.
Once Esme comes along, Edward is there to help. I think the problem here might have come from some old fashioned manners and gender norms as well as Esme's particular history leading Carlisle and Edward being reluctant to restrain her if necessary. That is, if newborn!Edward seemed about to snap and go after a person walking by the house, I think Carlisle would have tackled him to the ground and tried to stop him. With Esme, though? With her backstory with her abusive husband and both Edward and Carlisle's gentlemanly manners I could see them being reluctant to be as physical as they might have needed to be to stop a ravenous newborn and that might have resulted in some of Esme's slip-ups.
And then Rosalie came along and she was very self-controlled. I don't think she gets enough credit for this. Everyone in Breaking Dawn being like "wow Bella you're the best" but Rosalie hunted down and murdered a bunch of people without spilling or drinking a drop of blood as a newborn. That's impressive. (And Carlisle also was remarkably controlled as a newborn with no one to help him, either).
And then with Emmett I think it probably took all four of them (Carlisle, Edward, Esme and Rosalie) to tackle him and try to stop him from going after someone since he's already extra strong in general and would have been even more so as a newborn. And if they weren't all there to stop him . . . yeah probably where the slip ups happened!

I feel like Bella is just unphased by this killing and gore like when she saw Edward killing (really just snapping her head off but people can for because of that too) Victoria she was just unphased in the movie. Like girl, you just saw your 'fiancee' behead another vampire and you're here just completely fine with it. Tbh though I would also not be breaking down but I would be a little shaken, I'm good at this violence and all.
What's interesting about the "Bella is so good at controlling herself" thing is that it goes against the patterns with the other Cullens. That is, the ones who had negative reactions to becoming vampires (Carlisle, Rosalie, Edward) have the best control. Even when contrasted with Emmett and Esme, who are generally "good" people! They both, according to canon, kind of just took becoming a vampire in stride, they didn't have the horror reaction, the anger, the crisis of faith stuff. Emmett saw Rosalie as an angel who saved him. Esme didn't think vampirism could be so bad if the man of her dreams and her new son were vampires, etc. And they've both slipped up and killed people, when Carlisle, Rose and Edward have not (Rose and Edward have killed people on purpose -- but Rose never drank the blood).
And it makes sense to me that those who are on some level repulsed by their own vampirism would have more success in restraining themselves. It makes sense that Carlisle, son of a vampire-hunting pastor, would try to starve himself in the woods rather than take becoming a vampire in stride. Rosalie hates being a vampire and sees eating animals -- like many humans do! -- as a way to have some control over her life and to be more like a human. Edward hates himself and sees himself as a monster until Bella helps him (allegedly) gain some new perspective. But on some deep level these three are the ones really fighting what they have become in a way the other Cullens didn't. Alice has no reason to fight it; she remembers nothing else. Emmett and Esme "took it in stride." Jasper likewise doesn't seem to have a problem with being a vampire so much as the particular style of vampire life he was reborn into. I feel like he sees being a vampire as a morally neutral thing; you wouldn't be mad at a shark or a lion doing what a shark or a lion does, but HE personally has his gift that makes the experience of feeding on humans unpleasant.
But then there's Bella, who doesn't take becoming a vampire 'in stride' so much as it makes her want to laugh and sing. She feels fulfilled and happy and like her real self and like, good for you, girl. Follow your bliss! Her self-control, though, breaks the pattern established by the rest of the family that those who resisted, resented, hated their vampirism were the most successful at self-control.
And I know it's probably a Main Character thing and all that, but it's interesting to ponder and makes me wonder if she'll become too confident, too lax, and will one day meet someone who sets her throat on fire and will be totally unprepared to restrain herself.

This part in midnight sun made the most sense to me... Just pure emotion... It makes the whole point of twilight complete

favorite book quotes :
“He was sanguine enough about Bella’s case to beg Carlisle to look in on a few of his as yet undiagnosed patients, declaring to his interns that they would never see a better diagnostician than Dr. Cullen. And Carlisle was confident enough in her condition that he agreed to go help others. But this wasn’t life or death for either of them the way it was for me. That was my life on the gurney. My life, pale and unresponsive, covered in tubes and tape and plaster. I kept myself together as best I could.”

@panlight, no you are not the only one who finds the first one romantic. I'm also one who does. Infact, it makes twilight more humane and not prey and predator love (bella was a vampire in this pic tho) and just makes twilight make sense... Idk am I the only one who wants such love in life?

the twilight saga: edward cullen (born edward anthony masen)
“I struggled to find the words to name the feelings that flooded through me, but I had no words strong enough to hold them. For a long moment, I drowned in them. When I surfaced, I was not the same man I had been. My life was an unending, unchanging midnight. It must, by necessity, always be midnight for me. So how was it possible that the sun was rising now, in the middle of my midnight?”

I'd like a mix of this conditionally. I would love the classic horror vamp if I was one, but if I was human then I'd like the fantasy just chill superpowered vampire you know, the kind you could be friends with.
What flavor of vampire do you prefer?
Another super scientific poll!
A) Classic/horror (Scary vampires, Bad vampires, Tragic vampires, doomed to wander the earth forever cursed with unending thirst for living blood vampires. Maybe religious iconography and/or spiritual consequences.)
B) Sci-fi/dystopian (vampirism as a virus or aliens or whatever, no monsters or demons or curses; or maybe a story about life after a vampire plague. Scientific/biological reasons for blood-drinking)
C) Fantasy (vampires are just Cool, and have Powers, but aren’t monstrous really. Could involve a Magical School or Magical Lessons. Drinking blood is optional or minimal or just Not Important)
D) Some combo of the above (explain?)
E) None, I’m here for the werewolves/shapeshifters!
F) None, I don’t like supernatural creatures at all and Twilight is an exception.
