Happy Disability Pride Month to all who celebrate!
It doesn't get nearly as much attention as LGBTQ Pride month, but it deserves to. Living with a disability can be difficult, but you can still live that way and love who you are as you overcome those difficulties!
Love yourself, and know that you are loved!

https://www.tumblr.com/tearosesarts/787471478163636224?source=share what was the thing that gave him baby teeth?

Ah! I was running out of characters and didn’t feel like adding another tag, so I guess I forgot to add some details. She was saying the young guy with his teeth whitened looked like he had baby teeth because of how white it made his teeth.

Hey, guys? Make peace with yellow teeth. I'm so serious right now.
#I was never self conscious about it until I saw this teeth whitening commercial that was like ‘if you’re not whitening you’re YELLOWING’#my teeth aren’t even that yellow#my dental visits are expensive but never have they commented that they were getting too yellow#but what actually helped was when my mom and I saw this other whitening commercial#and there was this young guy they were showing#and my mom (who gets on my case about shaving and thinks she can’t go outside without makeup) said ‘he looks like he has baby teeth now!’

Thanks for the tag! Doodle of an aristocratic clam and a martini potion, my Josie sleeping on top of the couch, my Lucy-Goose turning into goo on my lap, and Willoughby and Andrew from the Mary Poppins book (I was recently in a production of the musical playing Miss Lark, so it was interesting seeing her dogs in the book)!

For all of the northerners that stood up for Texas during our freeze and said, "Don't make fun of them, they've never dealt with this before. Their infrastructure isn't made for snow and freezing."
This one is for you.
Where I live 108°F with 80% humidity with no wind is normal.
Pacific North West is dealing historic best waves 35-40°C or 95-105°F.
First of all. Don't make fun of them for bitching about the heat. Just like Texas isn't built for a freeze and our pipes burst, Pacific North West isn't built for heat and a lot of their homes don't have AC.
If you live somewhere with a high humidity like 80+ HUMIDITY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. The "humidity makes it feel cooler" is a lie once it gets beyond a point.
If you live somewhere with a lower humidity, misters are nice to cool off outside.
Once you get over 90°F (32°C) a fan will not help you. It's just pushing around hot air. (I mean if you can't afford a small AC unit because they're expensive as hell, by all means a fan is better than nothing).
If you have pets, those portable AC units aren't safe. If your pets destroy the outtake thing, it'll leak CO2. Window units are safer.
Window AC units will let mosquitoes or other small bugs in. Sucks, but that's life.
Now is not the time to me modest. If you have to cover for religious reasons, by all means. If you don't, I've seen people wear short shorts and a swim top. It's not trashy if it keeps you from getting heat stroke.
If you do have to cover up for religious reasons, look for elephant pants or something similar. They're made with a breathable material.
Shade is better than no shade, but that shit it just diet sun after some point. Don't think shade will save you from heat stroke.
I know the "drink your water" is a fun meme now, but if you're sweating excessively you need electrolytes. Drink Gatorade, Powerade, or Pedialite PLEASE. I don't care if you're fucking sitting in one spot all day. That shit WILL save you from heat stroke.
Most importantly. RESEARCH THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAT STROKE AND HEAT EXHAUSTION PLEASE!
If you're diabetic and can't drink Gatorade, mix water, fruit juice, and either lite salt or pink salt
If you can afford it, cover windows with thick curtains to insulate the house
If you have tile floors, lay on them with skin to tile contact. If you don't, laying your head on cool counters works too.
If the temperature where you're at is hotter than your body temperature, don't wear heat wicking clothing. Moisture wicking is safe though.
Check your medication labels. Many make you more susceptible to sun and heat
-Room temperature water will get into your body faster. This is something I learned doing marching band in high summer in Georgia, and it saved all of our asses. Sip it, don't gulp it, especially if you're getting into the red; same goes for whatever fluid you're drinking. And just in general drink during the day.
-If you are moving from an air conditioned space to an un-air conditioned space, if at all possible try to make the shift gradual. When my dad and I were working outside and in un-ac houses a few years ago, he'd turn the air down to low in the truck about ten-fifteen minutes before we got where we were going. This way your body doesn't go from low low temps to high temps. S'bad for you.
-If you can, keep your lights off during the day. Light bulbs may not generate a lot of heat, but the difference is noticeable when it gets hot enough. I literally only turn my bedroom light on in the evening when it gets too dark.
Don't be afraid to just like... pour water on yourself if you need to. The evaporation will cool you off.
Put your hand to the cement for 15 seconds. If you can't handle the heat, it'll burn your dog's paws. Don't let them walk on it.
Dogs with flat faces are more prone to heat stroke. Don't leave them out unsupervised.
Frozen fruit is delicious in water.
Wet/Cold hat/handkerchief on your head/neck will help you stay cool.
Pickle juice is great for electrolytes! You can even make pickle juice Popsicles!
Heat exhaustion is more, "drink water and get you cooled off." Heat stroke is more "Oh my god call 911."
Image Description provided by @loveize
[Image description: an infographic showing the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The graphic is labeled "Heat Dangers: First Warning." Signs of heat exhaustion: faint or dizzy, excessive sweating, cool, pale, clammy skin, rapid, weak pulse, muscle cramps. If you think you or someone else may be experiencing heat exhaustion, get to a cool, air-conditioned place, drink water if conscious, and take a cool shower or use cold compress. Signs of heat stroke: throbbing headache, no sweating, red, hot, dry skin, rapid, strong pulse, may lose consciousness. If you think you or someone else may be experiencing heat stroke, call 911. End description]
Be safe.

Erik the phantom v. Oliver Warbucks
who tops who
#uhhh#I’m going with Warbucks on this one#Erik’s not *that* much of a top in my mind#oh wait#that’s not what you meant by top 🫢#I love how that’s what my mind went to as an asexual with little interest in sex

#nope#I drive but only because I have to#I do not enjoy the anxiety of potential accidents nor do I enjoy people on the road#I don’t enjoy drivers who think I need to be going 60 on a 35mph road#I don’t enjoy pedestrians walking out in the middle of a street like they have a death wish#I don’t enjoy trying to go around bicyclists or generally navigate the road with them on it#they’re such a weird in between of driver and pedestrian that seems to make them exempt from all traffic rules#and I especially don’t enjoy driving at night#you get all of the aforementioned problems with the new problem of it being Dark#except for the drivers both behind you and driving towards you in the other lane blinding you with their headlights#forgetting to turn your high beams off when you see other drivers (or purposefully leaving them on because you’re annoying) is one thing#but then you have these newer cars with the LED headlights that are made to burn people’s retinas by default

Exercises for all the homies who want to have a long career drawing.
The true problem with being an artist and drawing all day (as I wanted my whole life) is that human backs are not designed to hold that position, so it is very common for artists and designers to have really stiff shoulder blades, creating a chain of muscle strain towards the arm AND the back… and a lot of pain.
These are some physical exercises for artists and honestly anyone who works at a desk.
(all credit to my physiotherapist)
#good to know#artist on tumblr#exercices#probably good for writers or anyone who works a desk job too

The inaccessibility of theater in an age where we have the tools to easily make it accessible is so deeply frustrating and infuriating and genuinely upsetting when i think about the state of the art form as a whole. I can understand wanting people to show up to a performance while it's running obv it's a job and you need to make money to stay open and pay your workers somehow, but there's absolutely zero reason not to record it and release it once it's over so that people who can't physically see the show in person due to cost/disability/it's just too far away/etc still have a chance to experience wonderful art! Why should i not have access to the professional recording of a play performed in 2014 when it's 2022, the run is long over and will not lose money if i get the chance to see it now rather than missing out simply because i was on a different continent and in middle school at the time. People hem and haw about a "dying art form" while making it as inaccessible as possible to the vast majority of people on earth when it could be literally the same as movies being released in theaters and then later on DVD/streaming. Movie theaters still exist Netflix hasn't killed them yet, live performance cannot ever fully be replaced and people who can see them still will, there's no reason things like stage plays, musicals, operas, ballets, etc can't do the same except for elitism. The cultural loss of not recording live performances in this day and age boils my blood, the art form is only "dying" because you'd rather let it die than change an inch.
#I wrote an essay about this in college#what some purists try to argue is that filming it turns it into a different medium#and I kind of get that? but at the same time other art forms have adapted to other mediums for accessibility#physical books get turned into ebooks and audiobooks#they’re still considered books#professionally-shot theatre does delve into the film world with camera angles and stuff#but it’s still undeniably *theatre* not a movie#especially since they usually include the applause after each song#other than that most theatre shows aren’t super contingent on you seeing them live to get the experience#and if it is a show with audience interaction/participation they can just record and include that with said audience members’ permission#a comedian playing off of audience members is still the same show if it’s recorded#though that does remind me of another reason I’ve heard for not making proshots accessible#sometimes the legal issues with it has to do with the contracts of the cast and creative teams#which… yeah that can be hard to get around#idk what a good solution is on that front#I’m not a lawyer and don’t want to pretend I know how things work
