BALETE DRIVE

Ngayon ay isang maulan na gabi,

Sa mahabang daang puno'y tabi-tabi.

Sasakyan ko lamang ang nagsisilbing ilaw,

Sa madilim na kalsadang tila may lilitaw.

Sa kalagitnaan ay may biglang tumawid,

Magandang babaeng sa leeg ay may lubid.

Takbo ng sasakyan ay dahan-dahang tumigil,

Katabi ko na ang sa buhay ko'y kikitil.

Biglang ang kotse ay umandar nang muli,

Mabilis kong pinatakbo at nagbakasakali.

Hanggang sa makalabas na ako sa kalsada,

Iyon ang Balete Drive na kanilang kinukuda.

Look at our boy, seizing his moment as the first Alolan Pokémon League champion. But, he did not get there easy. He underwent six other leagues from several other regions.

As my first post in this page, I will be ranking all the league conferences that had Ash participated in. (Note: this is entirely based on my opinion and standards).

Top 7. Vertress League Conference (Unova Region)

This is Ash’s worst league ever. Yes! Even worse than the Indigo League Conference. This is his 5th Pokémon League Conference, and he placed 8th place. Actually, 8th place is not a bad place. But the thing is, before he came to this region, he traveled and participated in the Sinnoh League and placed 4th after being defeated by Tobias. Yet, a kid named Cameron who does not know that there will be a 6-on-6 battle defeated him. The only good thing that happened in this league was when Ash defeated Trip.

Top 6. Indigo League Conference (Kanto Region)

The first league conference of Ash. He ranked at 16th place here considering his “not-so-good” gym battles in the whole generation 1 anime, since almost all of his badges from the region were given as reward for his deeds. His battles here were raw and not as exciting as the newer generations, but it’s fine, this is his first league after all. However, the disappointing part of the league was when Charizard became the reason why he lost.

Top 5. Ever Grande League Conference (Hoenn Region)

I can’t remember much from this league, but what I can remember is that the battles in this league were better than the two above-mentioned leagues.

Top 4. Silver League Conference (Johto Region)

I also can’t remember much from this league. But what made it my top 4 is because it featured everyone’s most awaited 6-on-6 league battle of Ash and his first and original rival, Gary. It also showed the growth of Ash as a trainer, and Charizard as a whole. This is also the first time that a Pokémon trainer and Pokémon from an unintroduced region (Harisson and Blaziken) participated in a Pokémon League.

Top 3. Lily of the Valley League Conference (Sinnoh Region)

This league became the standard for a well-executed and powerful Pokémon league battles. Every battle were intense. Ash versus Paul became a fan-favorite battle that long-time and new fans of the Pokémon anime will anticipate to watch. Paul can be a jerk and be classified as a “bad person”, but we must admit, he is indeed a very skilled Pokémon trainer. Trip can choke. The only dissapointing part is the participation of Tobias. Imagine fighting a Darkrai and a Latios! But Pikachu and Sceptile proven their worth in the Ash versus Tobias match.

Top 2. Manalo League Conference (Alola Region)

We all know that the Lily of the Valley League Conference had better battles compared to this league. But what made this league rank 2nd is its uniqueness. Aside from Ash finally winning an official region league, the character development of each character were showcased because almost, if not, all of their battles were shown. The exhibition match between Champion Ash and Professor Kukui was too good that I was always left in awe on its 3-episode run.

Top 1. Lumiose League Conference (Kalos Region)

Well of course, the Lumiose League is still the best one up to date. Aside from its good animation and art style, Ash looked like a prominent and skilled Pokémon trainer. The mega evolution and Ash-Greninja transformation was really good, and still gives me goosebumps everytime I rewatch it. Ash’s full battles with Alain and Sawyer were too dope that I want to rewatch them over and over again. Also, the stadium where the league happened is the best stadium I ever seen on the anime.
