"I'm happy for them."
Tumblr media
Her words come out a bit strained.  The sea witch can't help but question if the ease some of the city's older citizens have started to feel is not necessarily genuine happiness with their situation, but more so adjustment as a means of coping.
"Yes, I understand...  After all, I need to return to my family and my sea.  My son, his father, and my familiars are all waiting for me."

❝ I try to avoid meeting new people whenever possible. ❞
“You’re saying that to me, a stranger…!  Hohoh.”
Tumblr media
She can’t help but chuckle at least a little at that.  Sadly, though, the amusement is short lived.  Instead, there’s a bit more sentimentality riddled in her gaze.
“I can’t say I know the feeling.  It’s kinda difficult to let new people in, yes…  But I’d argue it’s usually worth it to try.”

pearlyputrescence:
She clearly refused to vanish like he so wished her to. Which, against all decent rules of the universe and sane logic, meant this wraith was flesh and blood. How? He could not say, but he would not stand here to be made a fool. If there was only one way to get to the bottom of this, as revolting as it was to entertain, he would make the first move into the unknown. He was not intimidated by any version of little Miss Wadanohara, he would prove her well of that fact.
“Well, quite the predicament we have here… it is quite the surprise to see you again, Wadanohara. My, my, such a lovely new outfit you have on today! Anchors truly are your symbol, so many of them you shine even more than you usually do.”
His smile then is tight, but oh so cheerful in his flash of teeth. His eyes are sharp and draw over her figure to catch every unfamiliar detail, that gaze stopping suddenly on her hair. On the length of it.
How old was she? What time had passed in this Wadanohara’s life? It did not make sense.
His smile carved up, in a lopsided grin. The kind of expression to imply he knew more than he held in his current cards.
“It makes me wonder though… Were you perhaps tired of the old design? I thought the eyes were such a nice look, and, well, you do so know my favorite color. I just can’t hide my bias, dear.”
What she had hoped to be a figment of the darkest parts of her imagination (a mere remanent of the past haunting her) was real and standing before her with crimson eyes blazing.  His visage was just as pale as she remembered: brows and hair thin and white, suit clean and spotless.  His large teeth that sneered at her, stainless, reminded her of the night she managed to make his snarl drip ichor.  Though, he had also made her own blood spew, right from beneath her hands.  A large slice of the sacred sword that he wielded at the time was her undoing, smashing right through her abdomen and meeting her familiar's vision on the other side.  The ambassador proudly laughed and laughed at the time, just before fleeing into the depths of the Sea of Death.
But justice was served.  Much to her grief and dismay for Samekichi, her shark familiar had taken care of things for his sea witch.  Sal was no more.
And yet, here he stood.
It didn't make any sense.  None of it did.
Tumblr media
"Wh...  What?"
She couldn't understand him.  He was speaking.  She could see his mouth moving.  However, his words were lost on her.  Amidst the fear setting in and gradual panic of the moment, Wadanohara couldn't possibly concentrate or process Sal's statements and questions...  They were all like static to her.
Wadanohara cautiously stepped away from Sal in order to create a bit more space between them...  The wooden staff she was provided by her captors shook in her grip.
"I...  I thought...  I thought you were gone."

    “ Hey, excuse me ! ”
Their smile was.. admittedly forced. Though it wasn’t the fault of anyone in that vicinity that they were in a particularly awful mood. No one except, of course, the people that quickly surpassed the Flame World invaders as their most hated enemy. Though they haven’t actually ruled the possibility it could be their doing. It was a stretch, but the list of those that they’d committed some act of ill will towards was relatively short–they were long dead. No one else remained that would wish this upon them, surely.
Walking around with a scowl on their face this early in the morning wouldn’t convince anyone to lend them a hand, God of the Gray World or not. The residents of this dimension wouldn’t care.
“ I’ve.. I’ve seem to have gotten lost, could you point me somewhere ?
Tumblr media
The ones that run this place–they assigned some place to hang my hat, so to speak. ”
Why they stopped a blue clad witch in the middle of a marketplace, they couldn’t begin to tell. It was just as random and nonsensical as their predicament, she was the only one that wasn’t towering over them, maybe. Perhaps that was it. In any case, they were tired.
Not in the metaphorical sense, the fake excuse they gave to retreat to their quarters and nap during midday simply because it’s enjoyable–physically tired. ‘Tried to build the universe in seven days’ tired. The kind of exhaustion that came once in a blue moon before their renewed world came into existence and it was both from neglect in their own self care and overuse of their own powers. The only thing they’d done to warrant this was walk; their legs felt as if they could fall off at any moment.
“..I just need directions and I’ll be on my way. ”
The sudden sound of another person's voice made the sea witch practically jump out of her boots, almost causing her to drop the library book clutched in her hands.  It would have been a shame if the novel had fallen into a puddle on the cold, wet ground.  Thankfully, her reflexes had kicked in at the very last second.  She briefly fumbled with the stray object for a few passing moments, emitting a small squeak as she did so.
When her attention was able to shift to the stranger beside her, Wadanohara blinked up at them at first.  Her mouth having fallen open in the form of a small 'o,' the witch's expression was comical, to say the least.  However, she managed to recover herself, straightening up and forcing her shoulders to ease and lower to a position that at least seems natural, though seemingly rather rigid to someone with a critical eye.  "Oh, sure!  I mean...  I would like to try if I can!"  Wadanohara exclaimed, only a small shred of hesitance evident in her tone.
Tumblr media
"I kinda haven't been here for very long either," she admitted.  "So, I might not be too much help."  Despite herself, Wadanohara stepped a bit closer to them with a small, curious smile.
"Did they give you an address to your apartment...?  If you're not certain what those are, I promise I won't judge because I truly didn't know what they were either."
Admittedly, the city's culture and structure was a bit eye-opening for her.  Even though she would have much rather focused entirely on escaping this giant trap, it was key to become acquainted with her surroundings for survival purposes.
"I guess it's a form of housing for people who live on land," Wadanohara explained, all the while a few beads of sweat rolled down the sides of her face...  Thankfully hidden beneath the brim of her hat.  "I've been to Witch World but I wasn't familiar with the term until I got here.  Hohoh..."
Her gaze flickered to search past them, gray eyes narrowing slightly in wonder and intrigue.  "I believe there's a map around here somewhere.  I think that would be a good place to start, right?"

kuromahou:
Sector 004 reminded Chlomaki of Witch World, in a way. The clash and coexistence of countless different worlds and walks of life was something she’d grown accustomed to there, and thus she finds herself drawn again and again to wandering the Sector she’d been assigned to live in. More than that, though, she was interested in how such a Sector came to be. The people who created this place must have had a vast knowledge of innumerable worlds and the cultures therein. The sheer variety showcased on these colourful streets made Chlomaki think these scientists’ meddling in other worlds had been going on for a long, long time. Her curiosity grew with every moment she spent there. She’d been lost in thought, when she heard a very, very familiar voice cry her name. She barely has time to register it, much less turn or respond, before she finds herself enveloped in a crushing, very warm hug. For a moment, all of Chlomaki’s cool bravado vanishes, thoroughly taken off guard.  “Wadanohara?!” It is Wadanohara, holding her tight enough to steal her breath. Chlomaki hesitates with uncharacteristic awkwardness, flushing a little from the unexpected display of affection. Chlomaki has never been good at this honest sort of warmth. When Wadanohara goes on to speak, though, Chlomaki brings both arms up to belatedly return the hug with a heavy sigh.
Tumblr media
“You’d think we hadn’t seen each other in decades, with that kind of greeting…” But maybe that isn’t so far from the truth. Wadanohara isn’t wearing the bright, childish clothes Chlomaki had last seen her in, now dressed in dark, muted tones. Her hair is longer, she realises, braids spiralling towards the pavement, and her eyes. Her eyes show it the most, dark in the way of deep water, tired and worn. These are eyes Chlomaki hasn’t seen before. “Wadanohara.” The sullen amusement and faint air of cynicism are new as well, suggesting age and experience beyond what Chlomaki knows of her friend. “You’ve grown.”
The returned embrace allows Wadanohara some ease.  She's comforted by the way her friend's arms loosely circle her, albeit tentatively.  Chlomaki always was a bit methodical, it seemed.  Simple touches such as these seemed complicated for the Pitch Witch.  Wadanohara never knew why but sometimes it was better not to ask despite wondering and pondering over such matters.  They were personal.  Too personal.  Regrettably, she could understand that.
A small glimmer appeared in the sea witch's eyes as she studied Chlomaki's face.  Her grin spread ever so slightly, the dimples of her cheeks becoming all the more noticeable. "Yes, of course..!  It's been such a long time since I've seen you, after all.  It doesn't look like you've changed all that much, Chlomaki...  You haven't aged a day!"
After saying such things, Wadanohara gently patted Chlomaki's shoulders all the while stepping a few paces away with a chuckle.  It was only when the tone in her friend's voice seemed to change in tone that her smile dimmed ever so slightly.  The other witch's voice carried the pitying sullenness that many others had used when reuniting with her many times before.
"Huh?  Ah um, yes but...  Don't we all grow up, at least a little?"
Tumblr media
With brows slightly raised, Wadanohara folded her arms in contemplation.  She was thankful that she had managed to find Chlomaki in the city, of course...  But where were they to begin with all of this nonsense?
"If it's alright to ask, how did you get here...?  Did the scientists capture you too?"

It was easy to get lost in Sector 004.  The area was busier than most, and the least uniform in comparison to all of the other places she had explored by that point.  Various buildings appeared more finished than others as if an idea had been conjured up, though, a lack of execution on the creator's part hindered its development into the city.  It was a beautiful place, though.  Nothing was quite like the Sea Kingdom back home, but she could still admire the architecture amongst the many other pedestrians hurriedly bustling through like schools of fish.
A street with trees in-between residences, kids playing hopscotch on the sidewalk, and well-maintained lawns in front of fancy-looking doorsteps could neighbor run-down businesses with busted windows, darkened alleys with a fire made of twigs inside a barrel in the distance, and roads that seemingly hadn't been re-touched in years.  Admittedly, the many opposing cultures living so harmoniously together was a little surprising to her.  She had been to Witch World where witches all cut from different cloth managed to co-exist, but it was never to the point of it being as peaceful as how Sector 004 seemingly appeared.
Time seemed to pass in a blink.  Before she knew it, the entire sector was dark, save for a few streetlamps.  She had no idea what time it was but knew she needed to get back to her apartment before it was too late to get back to Sector 005 safely.  It seemed as though when she made that decision to turn around and give up exploring for the day, her luck awakened and gifted the sea witch who she had been searching for all day.
Initially, it had been difficult to see her long lost friend dwelling in the shadows.  She blended in, what with her all black attire and witch hat shrouding her face from passerby.  But that side-grin of hers was unmistakable.
“Chlomaki!”
Tumblr media
An immediate mix of emotions forced a weight on Wadanohara's chest as she ran to hug her, greeting the other witch with a warm and tight hug.  It had been such a long time since she last saw Chlomaki.  Out of all the people she knew that could have wound up in this situation, she never expected a powerful witch such as her to be in this mess alongside her.  It was a relief to be near Chlomaki in some ways, but she  wished she didn't have to endure whatever those mysterious and cruel scientists had in mind for their 'social experiment.'  It was all too much to comprehend, so much so that it was laughable.
"I wish I could say that I'm happy to see you, but under these circumstances it's..."
She sighed a little, rubbing at her old, tired eyes with her right sleeve.  Her grip on the other witch's coat did not loosen, though, Wadanohara did manage to pull away to give Chlomaki a little room to breathe.  After all, her friend's body was already constricted and restrained by belts.  She didn't need to contribute to the tightness surrounding Chlomaki's frame.
Wadanohara smile expressed that of a sullen sort of amusement.  "Hohoh...  I...  I um, I suppose that would be a lie, right?"  She remarked, her voice dry and question rhetorical.

@brightsighted
Sector 003 had been completely off the sea witch's radar, that is until death's ambassador gave her a little tip on the presence of an old, belt-covered friend.  That one piece of information had Wadanohara off on an investigation, searching high and low for Chlomaki in the hope that the two of them could stick together as they attempted to figure things out in the strange city they were forced to reside.
But out of all the sectors listed, Wadanohara was convinced that Chlomaki would particularly spend most of her time in that area.  The places her friend traveled to, the things she had eerily described seeing in all her vacuity, all seemed to point to the sector that would be the least likely to attract the most attention.  It would be the first on her list of areas to check, and although it seemed a bit intimidating to be wandering into such an unknown place all alone, Wadanohara was desperate enough to try.
Reaching sector 003 was already somewhat of a challenge.  A train ride was a first-time experience.  The bumps, whirrs, and mechanical shifts on the long machine were what brought Wadanohara to sitting on one of the seats, all the while squeezing and clinging to the fabric of the cushion.  And when she got off the train and proceeded to travel through the bumpy roads and rows of countless broken down buildings, Wadanohara realized finding her friend would be much more difficult than anticipated.
She felt a spark of hope after coming upon a building labeled Magic Shop, open and ready for business for the day.  It was left to be assumed by the Sea Witch (who had no grasp or understanding of magic tricks and fake magic wielders), that the building in front of her was obviously a meeting place for witches and wizards!  How exciting!
Tumblr media
“Ah, excuse me...?" She called out, upon opening the shop's door.  A light jingle rang out, signaling a new customer.  "I'm really sorry if I've disrupted a meeting here, but has anyone noticed a witch dressed in all black passing through this sector?"

pearlyputrescence:
His eyes roamed over her burning crimson cheeks, listening attentively with growing interest the more she spoke. Nervousness, embarrassment, hesitance… These all were perfectly normal responses for Wadanohara to have around him, as bumbling and poorly matched for his talents as the sea witch was. The level of heat, though; the bright color sweeping over her features was just a little too far out of place. Sal could easily say he understood Wadanohara like no other under the sea, it mattered very little that this alternate version was more seasoned than the one he knew, no, he saw too deeply into her quaint, darling heart to misinterpret her behavior. So he knew it was safe to say, something going on here was ever so slightly….Off.
Curious….
This would require some delicate attention to navigate. Perhaps the sea witch required a bit more focus at the moment than the map. Something was here, buried in her words and her lovely, plush cheeks and it was suddenly rather off-putting. What was it… What was it…
Not that he would allow this frustration to show. Not that he would ever give his enemy an opening to gain ground over him. Sal’s face stays schooled in a neutral expression, only slipping into fond glances when she asked her sweet questions of his thoughts. Really, she was only right to come to him for aid.
“Why, yes! It’s more than fine by me to hold that discussion with you, Wadanohara. I’m glad you chose to, as much as we have our differences we have similar goals of leaving this world far behind us. In this situation survival is in question and you’re wise to see that clearly.”
And already she was helping him to that end marvelously. So she was alone here? Well, if it remained so that would keep a great deal of complications out of his path. Good.
Sal pauses when she finishes, a hand to his chin and a soft hum through his lips as he picked his words ever so carefully.
“And I, you, my dear. You were the first familiar face in my arrival. Ahh, let me see… Hmm. So far I met a demon–believe me when I say he’ll be no help, loud idiot, that one. The type to ogle anything with legs.–and there was someone else.”
And here was the play. Displeasure in his voice at the last of his sentence, a pause as he fixed Wadanohara with a entirely crafted look of consideration. Oh, of course he would withhold information from her. Of course the one who brought her entire kingdom to ruin would refuse her even the small comfort of knowing she was not alone in this city with him.
Exactly the tool he needed to wedge open this little chat for something deeper.
“…Miss Chlomaki is here as well, I’m sure your friend will be more than happy to support you. That is, if you haven’t found her already.”
A roll of the eyes, another pause for him to look away and shift his arms to cross. His look at her next has a piercing, serious quality he knows she wouldn’t be ignoring.
“Wadanohara, from what I’ve learned we and many, many others are not here by choice. The person who greeted me when I was kidnapped said only that we’re now part of some experiment. For the moment, I plan to work with that motivation for all this chaos and I would suggest you do as well. Think of this city as a maze our enemies built with their bare hands. What we should do for now is obvious, we memorize the maze.”
His implications of wanting the two of them to go back to the sea did not fly over Wadanohara's head.  She did not want him to go anywhere near the ocean.  The little she knew of his timeline already and the fact that she held no real trust or faith in him due to obvious reasons, made her sad, but it also gave the sea witch the reality that she could not allow the ambassador a means of getting back to their world.  Survival was important, of course, she agreed with him on that, but the concept of Sal escaping back to the ocean to cause more problems for everyone made a chill crawl up her spine.
She was swimming, entirely lost in her thoughts until Sal's mention of a certain pitch black witch's presence in the city seized her attention.
Wadanohara gasped, astonishment clear on her face.  "Chlomaki?  She's here?"  She asked though he had already given her the answer.  What reason was there for Sal to lie to her about this?
It took her a moment to recollect.  Truly, it was not only the fact that Chlomaki's presence in the city shook her.  Sal had answered her question with honesty.  He had let her in on knowing that no, she was not completely alone in this place.  The shark beside her had no reason to give her this information, but he did it anyway.
Wadanohara's heart raced.  She gulped, then steadied herself.
Tumblr media
"...I will remember that, thank you, Sal.  I will talk with her later."
Upon hearing the eloquently well-put summary of Sal's plans, Wadanohara immediately contemplated the idea of turning away from him and absconding.  It was not what he said that startled her, but rather how he expressed his thoughts with such powerful diction.  He made simple things sound so intricate and elaborate, all needing to be handled with an acute precision that of which Sal alone could maintain.  It scared her how powerful he was and how he carried himself.
But with Sal deliberately pulling her in, offering Wadanohara the privilege of working with him on something like this, it was too tempting in her state of mind for her to refuse.  She felt wanted.  The sudden deep desire to be attached to Sal was overwhelming, straining every deeply locked logistic that this was not a good idea.
"Th-That's...  That's a good idea," was what she found herself saying before managing to cut herself off.  Wadanohara bit down on her lower lip, sweating a bit more.  The words sounded too meager in her mind and lacked the depth she knew Sal would be hoping for from this conversation.  Regardless of whether or not he was playing her like a fiddle, the irrational part of her still felt she needed to thank him for at least humoring her.  It was only polite and no matter the person, Wadanohara was an accommodating witch of many pleasantries, right?  It was quite the moment, for the ambassador of the Sea of Death, to give the sea witch input on the plans he was formulating.  Yes, of course.  Thus it was justifiable...?
Wadanohara stopped.  She waited for Sal to walk a few paces forward before opening her mouth and taking in a deep breath.  Her gaze was steely and her expression hard; she critically looked to him with the utmost severity.  "It means a lot to me that you're letting me know something this important," she confessed afterward.  "I hope you know that, Sal."
A strained, half-smile appeared on Wadanohara's face as she walked beside him once more, adjusting the brim of her hat which cast shadows across the shapes of her rosy cheeks. "Ah...  Were you drawing a map, then?"  She questioned, gesturing to the pen Sal was loosely clutching.
