What I did while you were sleeping

“His name was Romeo.” He pressed on when Gemini didn’t respond, earning him a small chirp in response– He knew Gemini was listening, even if he felt silly repeating common knowledge. “But… you knew that.” A smile, humorless in nature, curled his lips upright at a single corner briefly. Gemini had been witness to both the glimpses into his heart, as well as having enacted as his companion through their journey to the past. “We… We were close friends.” Best friends, he mentally reminded himself, almost hearing Romeo’s amused tone in place of his own. ‘We grew up in the Monad Charity House, remember?’ He didn’t, not entirely, but he knew Romeo now and that was all that mattered to him. ‘We’re best friends!’ It was enough to rile a genuine smile from him. “I’m sorry pal.” Came his companion’s melodious chirp, the sound drawn out longer than usual. “I wish there was something we could do.” “Yeah.” The boy leaned back in his chair then, a small sigh falling from his lips. “Me too.” Silence fell between them then, gunmetal blues focusing on Romeo’s pulsing ergo and watching as waves of blue dust billowed out from it, crashing against his palm before vanishing into glimmering nothingness. The cycle repeated with each and every beat, the sight bringing forth a sense of calm to him. Even if Romeo wasn’t physically with him, at least he held the crystalized memories of him close. It was his most prized and beloved possession, one that he took great care in ensuring it was kept safe– “– Hey! I know !!” Gemini suddenly exclaimed, jolting the boy suddenly as the ergo was sent flying into the air.

I am incredibly excited because I commissioned this beautiful piece of art from the very talented @cinnapiss !! We actually brainstormed a lot of this story together and I'm just so happy I can finally share with the world this collaboration!

Romeo watched the stars twinkle, and listened to a train horn sound far off in the distance, carried by the winds. He closes his eyes, enjoying this moment, and just when he began to wish for his friend to come, he hears the sound of snow crunching under a pair of boots. Carlo had taken the plunge and trudged over, flopping down into the snow beside Romeo, the blond smiled warmly at the sight of him. “How?” “How what?” “How do I make a snow angel.”

Secluded Terrace

“I have to say, and pardon if this is lacking in decorum, but I couldn’t help but notice you’ve been making love eyes at Geppetto’s son for the longest time. How is that endeavour treating you?” The blond chokes on air, almost tripping and making them both fall. Luckily he catches them both before anything unsightly could happen, but his expression says it all: taken off guard with a hint of fear in his wide blue eyes. “What?” Is all he can spit out, trying to return to the same dance they had been doing before, uncertain of what to say. Lady Antonia lets out a guilty laugh, “Sorry for being so brazen Dear, I just find it all rather adorable. Two best friends, though men, it’s all rather unusual, but to, romance can come in many forms.” She pats his shoulder and Romeo sighs timidly. Her words are less frightening now, and she doesn’t sound upset, merely amused and condoling. “I know how hard it can be. To love someone, and be unsure if they feel the same.” Romeo finds that last part eye opening. His heart calms and he finds the courage to reply, “I didn’t realize it was that obvious.”

Carlo just stubbornly shook his head and marched on, trying desperately to ignore the steadily growing feeling that made him want to crawl out of his own skin and hide in the nearest dark nook… "It's just an alchemist, they usually want plant samples or some small live animals. There's no risk of this turning out like... last time."
