I wish the emperor in bg3 was as cool ( and hunky ) as you make them out to be, how you portray the gang and greygold is all so sweet 😭😭😭 but after finding out what he did to Duke stelmane... I'll just pretend your version is canon instead. I love your art!

Right, so originally I wasn't gonna abroach that topic with a 13½ ft pole, because sensitive subject, but gonna have to roll up my sleeves and acknowledge it was very much indeed a topic that Greygold had to consider and formulate their own conclusions on. Sure even though Greygold didn't find out the be-hella-mean way, there were concerned friends with mindful observations that had Greygold confronting the possibility that the Emperor and Stelmane's secret underground business practices might've had some uh...Problems!

The conversation went a lil everywhere BUT in short-

Greygold's philosophy is to hope for the best, but always prepare for the worst.

Case in point: Greyg's team. Maybe not everyone did shitty things in their past, but they certainly had ample opportunity to do shitty things on this journey that Greygold had to veer them away from. As Greygold sees it, if their teammates can change for the better, hopefully the Emperor can and will too. Everybody is capable of being awful, but also being awesome kind, so gotta give the squid a chance.

DECOMPOSITION

Let the latest patches add whatever new dialogue they write in, but Patch 0 gave me free range to ✨interpret✨ and this will forever be Greygold's canon, HA

For all intents, I did the hell heist as the last-last quest before the finale (So as to be fully prepared and supportive "finishing" babe's personal quest) AND BECAUSE OF THIS, I was tired. Greygold was tired. I was ready to beat the game. I was rushing. STEALING FROM RAPHAEL WAS STRESSING ME OUT. and I dared not go back. So even though Greygold did not want to go through with Haarlep's "game", I couldn't have picked a worse time to forget about their "always another way" philosophy Poor Half-orc was so determined not to fail Lae'zel's personal quest that, for once, ignored companion disapproval. And apparently, with Lae'zel not disapproving nakey Greygy, it looked like Babe was willing to retrieve that hammer no matter the cost either! Until Haarlep said they wanted nakey Greygy to play a "game" with them.

Babe disapproved that time. Babe, who's been cranky all this time, thought not even this way was worth getting the hammer for. Babe still cared about what happened to Greygold.

So by the gods, I happily reloaded and thankfully found a different way, HUAH. Thank you, Babe. Found out later that apparently going the Haarlep way would've suuuuucked. Saved by the babe. Thus I concluded why Babe was so cranky and can't kiss to save her life (I'm looking at you patch 6). And why Greygold's never had another hrm- pleasant conversation with Emps since the last time.

Poor sleep-deprived Lae'zel was bugged as hell killer coconut not because she was mad at Greyg, but because she'd been burning through all of her energy and affection by trying to protect Greygold from any further illithidry influence.

Chain Lightning.

Based on one of the coolest things I've ever pulled off in the game:

"what we have... was something more than i can express." in which post epilogue party and Avernus business, Leyah went on his merry way to spitefully track The Emperor down for that letter he sent back to the party

(extra ramblings about these two below!!)

emp is shit at communicating (and is also a squid so) or dealing with past aliances slash situationships (he only knows to either leave em or kill em apparently-) assumes that now that business is over = we go back to strangers (especially since the party mostly the whole game expresses that they are only in it together until tadpole business is done)

Leyah (redeemed durge) is also shit at communicating esp after denying himself of any romance whatsoever post act 2 (guilt after k wording isobel) , but finally snaps after the nonchalant letter he got at the party lol

all my supposed comrades in freak enjoying are romancing gale or shadowheart and being like "haha wow yeah u WOULD like the emporer" and betraying me so completely

"The rules are encoded in your very being, and to break them requires breaking you" I'm feeling that. My therapist said something today: "A breakthrough and a breakdown usually go hand in hand." There are rules hardcoded in your being. From your childhood, from your parents. To break them, to truly be free of them. . . might just require a breakdown before you reach that breakthrough.

I was absolutely delighted when I discovered them for the first time

Often we fall into the trap of teaching kids to be obedient and to do whatever some authority figure is telling them (parents, teachers, family members, etc), but what does that teach? It teaches them to be agreeable. So what happens? They become an adult and they are still agreeable. They forgo their needs to agree with others.

"No, it's okay."

"I'm fine."

"I'm good with whatever, what do you want?" Etc. They become people pleasers. It's always about everyone else, because it always has been. Being a people pleaser, being agreeable never benefits the 'people pleaser' only others. Let them be a person. Let them disagree. Let them have a say. Give them consent. If you don't. . . they become what you taught: a people pleaser. They don't suddenly learn to say 'no' or about consent or boundaries once they are an adult. Others WILL abuse this. I know it, I've lived it. For so long, I haven't been a person. Let them be a person.

I see a lot of posts saying "teach boys about consent".

While that is true, a lot of parents will do that and fail to see how their own actions are the problem.

If you've spanked him, he's less likely to understand consent.

If you've forced him to sit on Santa's lap, he's less likely to understand consent.

If you've forced him to give hugs and kisses to family members, he's less likely to understand consent.

If you've grabbed him in order to force him to sit still, he's less likely to understand consent.

If you've labeled him as "too sensitive" for not wanting to be touched, he's less likely to understand consent.

If you've assumed he's okay with something because he technically allowed it even though he felt pressured, he's less likely to understand consent.

If you're only going to criticize his actions but not your own, it won't work.
