The floor, walls, and ceiling in this Tucson kitchen suit the Southwest's hot, dry climate. The black-tinted concrete floor is cool in summer and contains radiant heating for winter, and the high, exposed-joist ceiling allows heat to rise. Walls are clear-finished rammed earth, which moderates the summer heat and calls to mind adobe, one of the earliest building materials.

there's a p common attitude in fandom spaces (fandom in general, not a specific one) that's like "why care about canon, or the characters being ooc? we're here to play with the dolls any way we like" and as much as i obviously am a person who thinks about canon a lot in theory i'm into that. in practice though when popular fanon takes things in a wildly different direction from canon so often it's in the service of taking something that was originally canonically weird and interesting and making it blander. it's flattening a complex character into a broad archetype i've seen a million times before, it's taking two characters with a complicated canonical relationship and writing them in a way where you could find-and-replace the names with any other popular migratory slash fandom pairing and the fic would make as much if not more sense. if you're going to break away from canon at least do something interesting? don't make it less weird? i feel like i'm watching someone take a really beautiful expensive cut of wagyu steak and grind it into hamburger to cook it well done and cover it in ketchup

my best tip for anyone trying to get back into reading is to remember that you can read books to avoid other responsibilities in ur life and it can become a vice if you play your cards right

Some photos I found clearing out old files, of a visit to Plas Mawr in Conwy, North Wales. It is a stunning and a rare survival of a town house of the Elizabethan era to be found anywhere in Britain, nestled right in the heart of busy Conwy with a fantastic view of the Castle from window from the top floor/turret. It was built by the long lived Robert Wynn, a remarkable and well-travelled courtier and trader who rose to pre-eminence amongst the Welsh gentry. Wynn’s ‘worthy plentiful house’ is especially noted for the quality and quantity of its ornamental plasterwork, now fully restored to its original splendour.  Its one of my favourite ‘old houses’ to visit and I’d highly recommend it.
