Tesla 2040 — Development Story

Nikola Tesla was about to finish his Wardenclyffe experiment when saw that his laboratory is being destroyed…
Life of Tesla was covered with mystery: Tunguska event, Colorado springs glowing fields and unfinished Wardenclyffe experiment on transmitting power world-wide through Æther.

We are indie game development team from Odessa, Ukraine. We came up with idea of making game on Nikola Tesla alternate story, because it was quite surprising for us that there are no games where you can play Nikola Tesla as protagonist.
We’re trying to keep as close as possible to all stuff that could be reconstructed from rare photos because we’re both excited and inspired with life of Tesla and everything connected with it.

We started from prototype made with Unity 5:

but when we saw features that Unreal Engine provides out of the box we decided to work further with Unreal Engine 4.
Everything present in first video was made in 9 weeks in free time(after the work day mostly) before DevGAMM 2017 in Moscow by two people, without any experience in UE4. We were using free assets but now we already got two levels and main menu scenes built on our own original assets from scratch. On DevGamm we were showing our teaser video to different people, collecting feedback. Few days after we showed our teaser at local gamedev community meetup and after that presentation 3D Artist decided to join our team.
So we are:
Max Kucherenko - CEO/UE4 Developer. 6 years of commercial experience as Android/Java Developer
Alexey Karazhey - CTO/UE4 Developer. 7 years in commercial gamedev experience. Unity mostly
Nick Slezko - 3D Artist / Game Designer. 2 years experience
Ilya Pavlov - 2D Artist. Making concept art and some art for trailer
Currently we’re implemented prototype and working on playable demo version to participate in showcases. Btw we’ve just returned from DevGamm 2017 at Minsk, Belarus.
