AITA For Getting Upset Over Not Getting Paid On Time, And Being Pissed Over Getting Yelled At For Not Showing Up?
I know the title seems a bit obvious. I assume anyone would be pretty upset if they weren't paid within the due time, and the second part sounds ridiculous, but listen until the end. I (F 17) have been working in a boarding kennel for about a month now. I really enjoy the job, and have no complaints with the tasks or anything like that.
But, here's the deal. I was supposed to get paid on the 14th of this month. That Friday rolled around. 10 AM, no mobile deposit into my account. That's okay, maybe it's just taking a little bit. I go out driving for a while, go do a few things, get back home. It's 1 PM, still no deposit. Alright... I'll wait a little longer, no worries. It rolls around to 5 PM. I know my bank closes at 4, still no pay.
At this point, I'm nervous, I'm freaking out. Why am I not getting paid? It was set on this very date. So, I wait a little bit, call a manager and don't get a call back. So I leave a voice message. Let me be clear, I'm not an aggressive person in the slightest, but I am horrible at confrontation. So this is about what I said-
"Hello, I am *Yada Yada Name*, one of your employees. I am calling to ask about my pay situation. I had been scheduled today to get paid, and failed to receive any deposit or message/call about any delays or further information. Please get back to me when you can, thank you." I was shaking throughout this entire thing because I was worried my tone would come off demanding or pushy. (It wasn't)
I get a call back the next evening, the 15th on Saturday. It was the other owner, who had called to tell me the reason I did not get paid was because "our accountant is lazy, and you're not technically in the online system yet. lol soz." Oh great, amazing. We chatted for a bit about it, and said our goodbyes. Though the closure was nice, I was pissed. More stressed than anything else, but pissed nonetheless. But I let it go and tried to enjoy the rest of my night.
Yesterday roles around, and I get a letter in the mail. Almost an entire WEEK after my due pay date. Though I am happy to finally receive what I had worked for, I am still upset to find it took them so long just to get a check sent in to me. And again, today, Friday, (We get paid weekly) I had failed to receive a mobile deposit into my account... Great. So all I'm getting out of this is that I will have to continue waiting each week, an extra week to finally receive my pay in the mail, when they have all means and information to pay me via mobile.
Then we role onto today. I had scheduled today off when I had made this month's schedule, as I was under the impression I would not be available today. I asked the work groupchat towards the beginning of this month to have someone cover. I thought everything was set in stone, everything was covered and good. No issues. That was until this evenings shift started, and I get a message from the manager that "I was supposed to come in today." What? I had already mentioned and had this covered? Why is no one there? So, needless to say, I was furious.
I get a text from my friend/coworker saying I'll likely be reprimanded for not turning up to work, when I had already made it clear that was a day I could not turn up.
So I'm sitting here thinking... Why? Why should I have to show up on a day I WAS NOT OBLIGATED TO SHOW UP ON, while also not getting paid on time with a lousy, unorganized, forgetful, disrespectful owner team?
Maybe I'm being bratty, maybe I'm being spoiled and dramatic, but right now I don't have the means to care. I'm getting annoyed, and truly just want my paycheck. I'm providing a service, I am giving my labor to YOUR "company"... Why should I keep showing up if you're unorganized and refuse to keep up with pay?
