_a piece of me will always be in Ukraine // in the Ukrainian town of Lutsk, the city council decided to install a metal wall that is open to anyone who wants to tag or draw on it with impunity in response to the graffiti that can be found all over. There is a noticeable street art and graffiti culture in Ukraine and the town wanted to do something that allowed taggers to express themselves on something that’s not necessarily a building. This is not an end-all solution to the commonly found graffiti in town but it was cool to see that instead of becoming more aggressive towards taggers they went the diplomatic route. Of course I couldn’t resist leaving my mark. ••• This wall is my inspiration for a proposal I am currently drafting to have something similar like this wall here in DC and based at the Kennedy Center.
