that joyous APD feel when the TTRPG you're playing (pathfinder 2) has functional rules about having a lip-reading or signing character!
i feel like it helps my friends be more aware of my own lip-reading and it's just nice to have my character be like me ✨️
pathfinder is fantastic, have fun!!

that APD feel when you tell your colleague you lip-read when he's talking with his cup held before his mouth, and he just looks at you, doesn't repeat anything, keeps his cup there, and stops talking to you
throw a desk at him, fuck that guy

That HOH + APD (Yes I have both) feel when you've explained what HOH means OVER 5 TIMES to your teacher and he still doesn't understand what it means.
I honestly just tell teachers that I'm deaf now. I know that I'm not, but this has happened with more than 10 different teachers, and I don't know why my school's teachers are so stupid. Hard of Hearing, it's in the name! I genuinely don't know why they can't figure out what it means, even with an explanation.
that sounds like a difficult situation
can i challenge you on your thinking about just one thing however, when you say you aren't deaf, if you are hoh you are deaf, whether you are Deaf as in culturaly deaf or not, is up to you, but hearing loss is hearing loss whether major or minor, and hearing loss is deaf

that hoh & asl second-language learner feel of not understanding speech but not understanding sign…
i’m just kind of stuck between worlds right now. better than half-belonging to one, i guess, but every speaking conversation shows how bad i am at hearie stuff, and every signing conversation shows how little i still know.
that's a mood

There's been a rise in "im not deaf but" submissions.
It's a very simple community blog for people who are D/deaf/hoh/APD, it isn't up for debate or a complicated issue.
I respect CODA and PODA (acronyms that folk either love or hate and im not here to debate that either) and make space for them.
Otherwise, please stop filling up my asks.

Tdf when you can't comprehend a movie because you don't have subtitles on because either nobody else in the room needs them or you were dragged to a theater

that HoH feel when your parents declared years ago they're too old to learn a new language and then one of them up and decides to learn spanish for a trip and they actually do it. but they still won't learn sign.
quietly dying over here. wish hearies understood that sign is more than a nice to have or a "beautiful language." it's base communication and it isn't optional.
that really really sucks im so sorry

Am I still able to call myself HoH even if I can't really get anything figured out about it right now?
HoH is a diagnosis not an identity you choose, either you have confirmed hearing loss or you don't. I'm not here to police the term, it really is just your audiologist who will be available at the same places you get your eyes tested.

That hoh/SNHL feel when you don't know if hearing aids would make your life better or worse because you're already noise sensitive as it is
let us know if you ever find out!

my question wasn't whether it was apd or deafness, rather more if that counted here.
deaf, apd and hoh count here, either you have one or you dont post.

that hoh feel when you’re out with your friends and you’ve consumed weed or alcohol and suddenly you can not understand a single being said
yeah, messing with your cognition when you've got apd or adhd or autism can make communication very difficult, teach your friends or learn yourself, how to communicate with a nonverbal person

That apd/hoh feel when you were recommended hearing aids and would like to try them, but you mother tells you it’s a waste and an awful idea and not worth it based purely on your grandmother’s experience with hearing aids (her hearing loss is not age related, but there’s still a huge variety of reasons why her situation is different than yours)
hearing aids help a lot of people, but it's always your choice and they can be very expensive

if you don't feel answering this question, i understand. but what exactly would having really bad tinnitus(like its always there but there are certain "episodes" where my hearing will just completely drown out into ringing) as well as what I am assuming is audio processing issues(i will listen to a sentence and just miss entire words rather than like them just not making sense), uhm count as? i'm not very knowledgeable on this, and i'm trying to figure out more, but as i said, if you don't wish to answer this, i get it.
i am not a doctor.
if you're worried about apd or deafness, go and see your doctor

That apd feel when you’ve finally actually been dx’d and the recommendations from the audiologist included, among other things, CAPTIONS which you use on you’re on your own anyway but you’re parents still won’t tolerate them on screen when you’re watching together and instead you have to deal with it being too loud (because also noise sensitivity) and the pain makes it that much harder to try to understand the audio at all.
you have awful parents

That APD feel when people expect you to be able to listen to a song once and be able to determine if you like it or not, but you have no idea what was said, have almost no memory of how the music went, and will need to listen to it probably 100 more times before you can understand what it’s about.
mm, as a deaf person i have to read lyrics before deciding if i like a song because more than once ive found out the words i cant hear have a slur or something in them but the backbeat is interesting, kinda makes music a minefield
