Howdy
I remembered the password for this account lmao. I dropped outta university for a whole host of reasons. I may start using this for bullet journalling/niche hobbies I have accumulated. Not sure. It was nice to scroll thru this blog and just see who I was 3-4 years ago.

Taking a Year Off
Over the past year, I’ve had to deal with a lot of stressful events from failing a semester due to mental illness, to helping my friend and the police with a domestic abuse case. My studies have always been important to me as I have always craved knowledge, but in 2019, after lengthy discussion with my mom, I’ve decided to take a year (or more) off to focus on myself. 10k+ per year is a lot to spend to swing below par grades, sacrificing my mental health in the process. My end goal is to take care of myself and work for this year and go back to university by 2020.
I know this isn’t really studying related, but I figured I may as well scream it out to the void anyway. I will continue to use this blog, however it will be more based on planning. Love you all the most <3
#:(#I love studying#but a year off is the best thing for me rn#Very excited to be able to use my bujo again tho!!#planning will be more relaxing now lol

how to start studying after school
clean up your desk: it’s hard to concentrate when there’s a pile of rubbish on your desk. the chance of you fiddling with things is also higher! you’ll get more done by cleaning your desk! if you’re looking for an easy way to organise your desk, check out these handy organisers!
get your books: get out all the books you need to study that particular subject. if it’s geography, an atlas might be handy.
get a notebook: if you’re in uni or college it’s a good idea to re-write all your notes for your classes that day. make them look clean and tidy. if you’re in secondary school and you’re studying for a test, summarize everything you have learned. in any case, it’s best to have a few notebooks on your desk too. here’s a 4 pack of spiral notebooks for $7.04!
grab some pens: seems self explanatory! i recommend you having an ordinary pen, a highlighter and a pencil on hand. (a.k.a. the basics!) here are some super cute gel pens!
turn off your phone: by turning off your phone, you will get less distracted by social media. sure, people won’t be able to reach you but you’ll get some peace and quiet. obviously leave it on if you’re expecting an important call!
look for a study playlist: if you easily get distracted by your laptop too, skip this step. i personally find it harder to get distracted by my laptop than my phone, so i leave it on and look for some music to study to. here’s a masterpost of some good playlists to listen to!
get a glass of water: you really need your h2o, everyone. grab a large glass or fill up a water bottle. some super cute ones: i ii iii
get a healthy snack: if you’re like me and you love snacking on things while your studying, the best thing to do is to grab something healthy. cut up some apples and sprinkle some cinnamon on them (try it. it’s amazing.), grab some hummus and some celery or carrots or cucumber to dip in it, fill a little bowl with nuts, treat yourself to a square of dark chocolate! if you’re studying during dinner time or lunch time, make yourself a nourishment bowl to nibble on. for more study snack ideas, go to pinterest and snoop around the study snack tag for a while. try out my favourite smoothie bowl too!
take a deep breath: i know from personal experience that sometimes the workload can be really scary and freak you out. the most important thing to do is to take a deep breath and to tell yourself you can get through all your work. you can do anything if you try hard enough!
get cracking: now that you’ve done steps 1-9, you can actually start studying! good luck!

studying with adhd!! ✨🌈
before we begin: i have mostly hyperactive type adhd & these tips have worked for me! i cant promise they will 100% work for u & maybe they will work even if u dont have adhd. but again, i went from a c-student to an a-student with these, so if you think they sound helpful, give them a shot :-)
🍁 make a checklist of what you need to study before anything else. as you gather your materials, refer back to this list. once you have everything on the list, double check: is there anything else you need? check again. keep your supplies within reach
🍁 try to have a large study space so you can spread out! try the floor, a kitchen counter, or even your bed. this way, even if you’re messy, you can just shove what you don’t need to the side because…
🍁 only keep what youre currently working on in front of you. people with adhd need simplicity to minimize extra steps in their thought process (extra steps lead to distractions, forgetfulness, and potentially executive dysfunction)
🍁 don’t force yourself into pomodoro cycles - work in “shifts” while taking breaks and using ur hyperfocusing powers :-) working in shifts means that the minute you get bored of working on one assignment, shift to another. when you get bored of that one, shift back to the first. if you get overwhelmed or suddenly unbelievably unmotivated, take a break to breathe - when you get bored of breathing, back to work! do ur best not to burn urself out by working too long, but if you feel yourself hyperfocusing, don’t break your focus by forcing yourself to stop
🍁 prioritize! this is a huge problem for us - we try to do 30 things and finish 1. it’s incredibly frustrating to feel like you are working harder than anyone but getting the lowest results. the secret is prioritization (which goes along with simplicity)! write down three things you have to get done. do those. do you have extra time? pick two more things to do. done? finish your study session with one last, low-priority and low-stress task
🍁 rubber bands, bracelets, erasers, rubix cubes, and stress balls are my favorite things to fidget with when i dont have my spinner. i personally can’t concentrate in chairs that spin, but walking around while reading my notes aloud helps me.
🍁 if you really really cannot physically bring yourself to do homework, watch a tv show that youve watched a million times before as you do it.
🍁 take interactive notes! if you take messy notes with a lot of gaps at school and rewriting them isnt an option for whatever reason: write your messy lecture notes on the left half of the page. at home, highlight main ideas from the left side. on the right half, fill in any blocks of information you missed using youtube/textbook/other resources. avoid extensive colorcoding because…
🍁 colorcode when youre studying for your exams! make a box next to each main topic and check off when you are done with it. highlight questions/whatever you wish as you read through your notes to stop passive learning.
🍁 take it easy on yourself! adhd isn’t a curse, but it does make it difficult to do a lot of things that school requires to do “well.” sometimes you won’t be able to understand information as quickly, or you’ll forget to turn in your homework. you are doing your best, and that can be just passing a class or finishing one worksheet. youre doing great & you will succeed!

BACK-TO-SCHOOL PRINTABLES
School is going to be starting soon, so I decided to make a bunch of printables to try to be more organised from the very first day. I don’t know about you, but every year (until now), on the first day of classes, I would write down everything that the teacher was saying on random pieces of paper I could get my hands on, which I would end up losing the moment I walked out of the classroom. This year, I decided to change that so I made class info printable. I also made a lab tracker because I always lose my labs and then the teacher always asks for them at the end of the year… So for this year, I made a lab tracker ahead of time. I also made an assignment and test tracker so that I can have a pretty good idea as to what my final mark will be. I made some vocab and formula sheets too to make studying them a bit easier. I made a schedule printable because the schedule that my school gives every year is pretty ugly and I end up losing it. I made a weekly review so that I can make sure that I looked over everything I learned that week instead of just forgetting about it. I also made a daily planner because why not. There are also different versions of every printable so you can choose which one you like best. Other printables. Tag me with #msprintables

Nouvelle grammaire en tableaux is also great for verifying any questions you may have grammar wise. It’s more of a dictionary that anything but it also has a bescherelle type section at the back for all your conjugations. I like it but it might be a bit expensive if you’re only buying it for one class
Hey!Can you help me? like I'll take this exam entrance in a few months and I could chose between english and french to study at college (I chose french) and I'd like to know if you have any recommendation of french grammar book. Like those who deal with figure of speech, pontuation and etc...
Hi! I only know two grammar books:
The ultimate french review and practice - this one is in English and has exercises to practice the theory that it teaches. I find it has very clear explanations, especially for English speakers
Nouvelle grammaire française (by Miriam Laporte & Ginette Rochon) - this one is fully in french (it’s the one my high school uses in french classes from grade 7 to 11). It only has theory, but it covers pretty much every grammatical aspect of the language. I personally find it a bit more complicated, especially if you’re not fluent (or at the very least comfortable with the language). But it’s very good for advanced french
I can’t add links cuz I’m on mobile, but they should be available on amazon (I know the first one is for sure). Hope this helps! :)
(And if anyone else has recommendations, feel free to share them!)
