Spending the day at the library was an exciting idea at first. You’ve been thinking about it for some time because ever since you joined Aether on his travels, you didn’t get much of a chance to sit down and enjoy a well-written book at Lisa’s library.That’s why you brought up the idea to Aether and Paimon one day. They both agreed on it rather quickly, with the three of you deciding it’ll be an excellent opportunity to revisit Mondtsad to see some old friends, too.

Well, so much for that great idea, you thought. When Lisa said she had ‘just the best recommendation’ for you to read, saying you’ll absolutely love it, you did not expect to be holding this kind of book. Not now, not ever.

It was a thoroughly detailed erotic fiction book. And Aether was sitting right in front of you, completely oblivious.

Spending the day at the library was an exciting idea at first. You’ve been thinking about it for some time since being a traveler didn’t mean you were a stranger to the wonder that was books. You enjoyed them even before joining Aether on his travels all around Teyvat. Though, admittedly, you didn’t get much of a chance this past one and a half year to sit down and enjoy a well-written book at Lisa’s library, the older woman serving you some tea and sweets every time you came by to make sure you enjoyed your time to the fullest at the comfort of her library. That’s why you brought up the idea to Aether and Paimon one day, they agreed on it rather quickly, with the three of you deciding it’ll be an excellent opportunity to revisit Mondtsad to see some old friends, too.

Well, so much for that great idea, you thought. The book Lisa recommended was sitting comfortably between your hands at first, with you unassumingly reading it since it was Lisa who recommended it. And well, If not Lisa, then who else would recommend a good book right?

That’s what you thought at first. Though you should’ve noticed the woman’s teasing remarks and sly hints at whatever she was amused by, then maybe you wouldn’t have found yourself in this rather humiliating position.

Lisa arranged a private library area for you and Aether so that you can read in peace with no distribution or distractions. She even made Paimon sit somewhere else other than you two, knowing the floating child’s antics of reacting very loudly and expressively to the detective books she loved reading would be a big, if not the biggest, distraction for your reading time.

So here you were, sitting on a beanbag on the floor, Aether sitting right across you more comfortably than you as he was between half laying down on the beanbag and half sitting position. He was reading a different book than you were, again recommended by Lisa, to his tastes. He seemed to be enjoying it If the way he was really focused and immersed in the book said anything. Well, at least one of you was enjoying it.

Now, it wasn’t that Lisa recommended you a terrible book. In fact, that was impossible to be expected from the well-seasoned reader that the woman was. It was the contents of the book itself. You were expecting another thrilling and suspenseful book, as those were the ones you came to enjoy the most with the way you loved the big plot twists, but nope. It didn’t even come close.

When Lisa said she had ‘just the best recommendation’ for you to read, saying you’ll absolutely love it, you did not expect to be holding this kind of book. Not now, not ever.

It was a thoroughly detailed erotic fiction book. It contained several terms and synonyms you didn’t even know existed, and the author was seemingly very… passionate about writing this kind of thing If every two pages of nonstop erotic scenes she’s written for the over 500 pages of the book was anything to go by.

Now, you were no innocent little kid, of course. You knew all the details and specifics of the birds and the bees, the adults would call it, to explain to their curious little kids how they were ‘made.’

But this particular book that you were holding in between your hands, mostly gripping by now, the very book that Lisa excitedly told you that you would love so much, had two main characters, these two main characters being unmistakably and very much uncomfortingly similar to you and your best friend who just also happens to be your traveler partner that is sitting right across you.

The story revolved around an adventurer boy with a little fairy companion. He meets the female lead on his quest to save the world, and they start traveling together. They become very close, saving each other from life and death-situations, their bond growing with each chapter. The girl develops feelings for the hero, the author lets the reader know of these feelings by writing about the sinful thoughts and dreams she’d have of her partner. Then, those built-up feelings and tension explode one night when the hero and the girl have to share a bed. The classic one-bed trope, of course. It happened to you and Aether before, although it never ended with you mating like bunnies in heat like these two characters!

You shut the book close, not being able to pretend to enjoy this fully just erotic book anymore, thinking of ways to not go to the tallest mountain in Liyue and jump off of it to save yourself from this embarrassment. You were well aware of Lisa’s intentions for recommending this book. You were not that stupid. You knew and recognized the teasing smile she’d shoot you whenever you’d visit with Aether, your partner remaining utterly oblivious to the silent exchange you’d have with the woman. You knew that If Aether ever caught up on the woman’s thoughts and remarks on your relationship with him, your friendship and travels would be over. You knew he had no intention of pursuing romantic relationships on his travels since he would right out shut down any flirting or even attempts that came his way from others. His only intention was to find his sister and go home. Nothing more.

‘’You need a break?’’ you looked up from the cover of the book to meet Aether’s eyes, the same boy who has been occupying your thoughts for the last hour, breaking you from your train of thoughts of him. How ironic.

‘’Uh, yeah, I think I’ll go and take some fresh air and come back,’’ you said, unaware of the noticeable flush on your cheeks and your chewed-up lips that you’ve been torturing for the last hour unconsciously while reading the book. Aether seemed to notice your disheveled face, raising an eyebrow. However, he didn’t want to question it, deciding that you’d tell him yourself if something were wrong. ‘’Alright, can I read your book while you’re gone? Don’t tell Lisa, but I got bored of mine,’’ he said with a slight chuckle.

Your eyes widen in fear at the question. Nope, there was no way in hell you’d let Aether read this book. He was there right next to you when Lisa recommended it to you. If he read it now, he’d think you were into reading these kinds of stuff! Nope, not happening!

‘’No no no- trust me, you won’t like it, it’s uh, it’s boring, really! I was gonna stop reading it too, so maybe we should just leave now,’’ you said, hoping to sound as convincing as you could. Aether, however, was fully aware of the panic in your voice as he seemed to get more interested than before.

‘’You know, If I wasn’t interested in reading it before, I definitely am now.’’ He said with a mischievous glint in his eyes as he closed his own book. Before you could say anything, he was right in front of you, looking down at the book in your hands with a playful smile.

Your eyes widened more in panic again. This was not good. You instinctively hid the book behind yourself, looking up at the standing boy with slight fear. ‘’Don't you dare Aether,’’ you spoke, trying to sound as intimidating as you could. Still, he wasn’t bothered in the slightest, your effort of trying to intimidate him seemingly making him more curious as to why you were getting this defensive over a book.

He was fast as he hovered over you, trying to take the book off your hands. You clutched onto the book tighter, trying to hide it behind you to keep it out of his reach. But this was Aether you were dealing with—the renowned Traveler who won any battle he set his mind to.

‘’Aether, I swear to the Archons, don’t you dare-’’ you were caught off suddenly as the much taller and admittedly physically stronger boy in front of you took your wrists and wrapped one of his hands around the two. You let out an embarrassingly stupid sound of surprise at your position, your faces dangerously close to each other as the boy smirked at you triumphantly. ‘’Gotcha,’’ he said in victory, taking the book off your hands in one swift motion, still not letting go of your hands.

‘’Now let’s see what you’re so scared of,’’ he said with amusement, opening the book to reveal the last page you were in. The world around you seemed to freeze, the same with your body, only the sound of your loud heartbeat making your ears painfully ring. You kept cussing inside your head, trying not to die of embarrassment right there and then while also wishing for Celestia to take pity on you and end your misery at that very moment.

A few moments passed in silence. Neither of you spoke or made even a tiny sound in this small private room that Lisa arranged for the two of you. You weren’t sure If it was seconds, minutes, or hours that passed, each millisecond being more painful than the last as you waited for a reaction from Aether.

Aether was painfully silent, or rather uınreactive, as you waited in silence. You didn’t dare look up at his face, very much scared to see the expression he was making. But the more the seconds passed, the more it became unbearably silent that you couldn’t take it.

You slowly looked up at the boy, meeting with a completely unreadable neutral expression on his face as he skimmed through the pages. This should make you happy, right? He wasn’t looking at it disgusted, assuming you were always reading these kinds of stuff. But no, not knowing what he was thinking was much more scarier.

‘’So,’’ he finally spoke, closing the book as he set it aside, ‘’when Lisa said this book was just to your liking, I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting this,’’ he was looking at you with that mischievous glint in his eyes, a teasing smile on his lips.

‘’I do not like this kind of book! Lisa probably gave me the wrong book,’’ you defended yourself, feeling embarrassed by his assumption that you enjoyed this kind of content.

‘’Well, whether she gave you the right or the wrong one, I noticed something really interesting,’’ Aether spoke, leaning in closer to you. ‘’The book's main characters sounded awfully familiar, don’t you think?’’ you can’t help but roll your eyes at this as you annoyedly looked up at him. ‘’Yeah, sure, whatever. If you had your little fun teasing me, let me go now.’’ you tried taking your wrists out of his grasp, but he wasn’t letting go.

‘’Why? You know, funnily enough, the position we are in seems to be quite familiar with one of the scenes in the book,’’ Aether pretends like he’s having a hard time recalling it, taking a few seconds while he hums when he suddenly lowers his gaze to you, brightly smiling down at you again, ‘’Oh right, I remembered. If I recall correctly, the girl was pleading for the hero to… what was it? Pleasure her?’’

You rolled your eyes at his blatant attempt to tease you. ‘’No idiot, it was to mark her,’’ you replied before you could think, instantly regretting it as you groaned in annoyance at your own dumbness. Fuck.

‘’So, you were actually paying attention to the book,’’ Aether smiled down at you smugly, the tone of his voice making you shudder internally. Why was he always having this kind of effect on you? Why did you feel yourself getting smaller under his gaze, your body burning from his grip on your wrists.

‘’Aether, we should-’’ he cut you off, leaning closer to your face, looking at you with something you’ve never seen from him before. ‘’Tell me, what happens next?’’ his voice was low, his gaze strictly focused on you. You could feel his body heat warming you up, that look in his eyes sending a shiver down your body at the same time.

This was dangerous. You should act sensibly, end whatever is happening right now, and pretend it never happened. He is your best friend, your traveling partner. Something like this shouldn’t be happening right now, it should have only stayed in your dreams. But when he’s this close to you, holding your hands with his hands, looking into your eyes like he- like he actually wants you, it’s hard not to comply.

‘’She tells him to- she wants him to mark her, and he does,’’ you reply, your voice awfully small as you look into his eyes. ‘’Where does she want him to mark her?’’ he asks, his voice low, something in you telling you that this one was directed right at you rather than the character. ‘’Starting from her neck, down to her collarbones,’’

He slowly lowers his head down to your neck, breathing his hot breath on it. His breathing is as shaky as yours. You feel his lips softly brushing against your neck, roaming around like a feather, not settling in one place yet. You are unaware of the small gasp you let out, making the boy smile to himself as he finally presses his lips to your neck. He starts kissing it slowly, exploring around the spot to get that same sound out of you again. It doesn’t take him more than 3 kisses to hear you let out another gasp, tilting your head subconsciously to reveal more of your neck to him. He feels his chest swell with pride, knowing he’s the one making you let out those sounds right now. Knowing that even though you haven’t said it out loud yet, you want him, your body and your reactions basically speaking for you.

This reaction is all he needs, a small confirmation from you that makes him take things a step further. He kisses that spot again, a bit longer now, when he starts softly sucking on it. ‘’Do you think she likes this spot?’’ he asks you after several seconds of softly nibbling and kissing on the same spot, smiling proudly when he sees the mark he’s left.

‘’Yes, she does,’’ you manage to answer, your head feeling dizzy as you turn your head to look at the boy. He grins at you, that stupid grin of his, and licks his lips while holding the eye contact. ‘’Good, she will love her new mark there,’’

Her what? Before you could ask him if he actually did leave a mark on you, he dips his head down to your neck again, wasting no time with feather light kisses this time as he starts sucking and nibbling your skin. You were caught off, expecting this little exchange of some sorts to end there, but nope. It seemed he wasn’t planning on ending it with just one mark, seemingly determined to leave more.

He had already freed your wrists after he left the first mark, using both of his hands to hold you in place on your waist. You felt your body threatening to fall backwards on the floor from the strength he was putting on your body, not hurting you but rather feeling like he was trying to get as close as possible as he worked his way around your neck down to your collarbone, each kiss and teething he left on your skin making it harder for you to stay in position from the effect it had on your mind and body.

You brought your hands up to his chest, grabbing at whatever clothing you can to steady yourself as you felt him getting closer to your chest. This was no good. You were at a library, even if the room you were in was just assigned for you two, it was dangerous to be doing something like this in this sort of place. Not to mention you didn’t know how far he was willing to take it.

Aether never seemed to be the type to posses some sort of hunger for sexual acts like these to you, this newfound side of him making you nervous as to what he wanted to do, or was willing to.

“Aether- hey- we should stop now, come on,” you spoke, your voice coming out weak opposed to you trying to sound convincing to speak some sense into the boy.

He pulled back after a short while, out of breath, and licked his lips as he looked down at you. He seemed concerned, probably scared of having done all of this, thinking you never wanted him to. The teasing grin he had on his face just a few moments ago was now replaced with a worried expression as he looked into your eyes, scared of hearing you say that he crossed a line he shouldn’t have. “I’m sorry, I went too far-I’ll stop,”

“That’s- that’s not what I meant,” you cut him off quickly, wincing at the way your voice came out rushed, sounding afraid almost. “It’s just.. we’re in a library and, well, I- well I don’t want you to do something you’ll regret afterwards.” you looked down at the floor as you said it, scared of meeting his eyes.

“Why would I regret it?” Aether sounded confused, his voice becoming softer as he spoke.

“Because I know. I know that these things happen in the heat of the moment, and it would be fine if I knew you wanted to continue it, not from a moment of lust but… because you wanted to.” it all came out fast, fast enough that you said it all before you could think about it.

“And I know that it’ll be awkward afterwards, you won’t be able to look me in the face or even travel with me anymore, regretting it all. And maybe you would even be mad at me for not stopping you,” you continued, deciding that it was better to speak the truth in the situation rather than lose a friendship you came to value above most, to a moment of heat.

“Hey-“ you cut him off, knowing that if you didn’t finish talking about this now, you won’t have the courage to do so afterwards.

“And, and you’re my friend Aether, the one I value the most at that! I would hate myself forever if my own selfishness became the reason of us falling apart.” a second of silence. you cursed at yourself in your head for allowing this situation to go this far in the first place.

“Selfishness? What do you mean by that?” His voice is soft as he asks, trying to calm you down at least a little. You know that you’ve already went too far with Aether and with your words to not elaborate on the matter, deciding it to be for the better to tell him your feelings. You took a deep breath before starting to speak.

“I should’ve stopped this all, I should’ve stopped this before we went this far, I should’ve pulled away or found an excuse to stop all of this before it came to this point but no. I was so incredibly selfish, Aether. I didn’t do any of those even though I knew it was the sensible thing to do. I didn’t, because I wanted you to continue. I wanted to give into my feelings for once and not care for the consequences. But I just- I can’t risk losing you to this. Losing us, our friendship.”

“Your friendship matters more to me than my stupid feelings” you let out, your voice cracking a bit as you felt yourself unable to face Aether. You were scared of seeing the disappointed look on his face, you couldn’t stand that sight knowing you caused it, that you were the one who blew it all.

“Your- your what?” and there it was. He was shocked of course, what kind of friend would harbor feelings for the other? That’s not what friends were supposed to be for! He was surely gonna say he needs a moment and leave the library now, and maybe even taking Paimon with him on the way, maybe- maybe he will even continue his journey without you now. Oh god what did I do why did I blew it all-

“You have feelings for me?” His voice came out in a breathless whisper, laced with disbelief, shock and something you couldn’t put your finger on. You bit down on your lip, a shaky breath escaping your lips before you spoke.

“Yes, I’m sorry.” To your surprise, he didn’t take any time to respond.

“What- why- no no don’t be sorry, I-“ he talked with a rush, his voice panicked “God, do you have any idea how long I’ve waited for you to say that?” Wait what?

“What?” You said, without even thinking as your eyes finally made their way over to his. His eyes eyes widened when your eyes met his, and it was his turn to avert them it seemed, as he looked away with a slight hint of pink flush on his cheeks.

“I- well it’s only fair for me to admit to it since you also did…” he paused for a second before continuing “I had a huge crush on you from the moment we met.” From when?? Your eyes widened in surprise as your brain tried processing what you just heard Aether say. He..he liked you from the moment you met?? How?? You could swear that all this time he was just being friendly with you!

“Wait I’m so confused- from the moment we met? How come I never knew this?” you kept looking at him in disbelief, not being sure that he actually liked you all this time. From the moment he met you?? You’re sure you would’ve noticed right? Then how?

“Well, you’re not the only one who’s good at hiding your feelings,” he shot you a playful smile, clearly trying to lighten the mood a bit since the air felt extremely heavy from the emotional confessions from a moment ago. You couldn’t help but also crack a small smile as you rolled your eyes.

“And well, I was almost completely certain that you didn’t like me back” he paused, shooting you a teasing smirk this time “Proven wrong, thankfully”

“You could’ve just told me” you replied, deciding to overlook his teasing as you felt the air shift again from your comment, a playful one to a serious one.

“I thought you knew” he replied. His eyes were soft now as he looked at you, making you even more confused. How were you supposed to know that your best friend, who’s always nice to everyone at all times, your heroic best friend who helps anyone who asks, had deemed you different from the rest?

But then, the blame wasn’t all on him. You also hid things from him, exactly the same things he hid from you at that. So there was no reason for you to question why’s or how’s or when’s.

“I also thought you knew,” you finally said after a moment of silence “I mean, I thought I was being so painfully obvious at times that I was scared you’d figure it out” you continued with a laugh, remembering all the times you thought you’d slipped up and the night you sat overthinking if he knew or not.

“Totally clueless” he replied with a chuckle. You both fell into a comfortable silence, sitting next to eachother on the floor. The burdening weight of the secret feelings two best friends harbored for eachother for a long time being lifted off of your shoulders, finally giving you the comfort of knowing what the other is feeling. It kind of felt like the end of a war, if you had to dramatize things.

“I wonder what Lisa’s reaction is gonna be when she sees that we’ve left this room as lovers when we were just supposed to read” your head snapped towards Aether in surprise.

“I’m sorry, lovers?” he looked confused at your shock as he tilted his head “Yeah? I thought since we confessed and all, we’d start dating?”

Him saying that with a straight face set you right off. Sure, he was right. But this soon? You thought you’d maybe hide it from others or something since Aether was a well known traveler around Teyvat! Not to mention, he had these crazy fan girls, and oh it was dreadful to think all the people you’d have to explain it to- no wait you don’t have to explain explain right? What’s it to them after all?

“Take me out on a date first, gee” you tried sounding playful, but it came out rather embarrassed when you actually voiced it out.

Aether seemed to enjoy it being that way however, as he leaned in with that stupid teasing smirk on his face before deciding to reply “Well, you don’t strike me as the type but, would you be willing to go to a guy’s house on a first date?”

You groaned before hitting him on the head. Yeah, the ‘sunshine boy’ Aether everyone loved to dote on was actually a teasing piece of shit behind closed doors. But of course, you were the only one who knew that. And you decided that you didn’t mind that. Not at all.

“Remind me why I even wanted a date with you again?” he was quick to response “Because you love me?”

“I also love Danukis, do you see me going on a date with them?” he chuckled at your sarcasm before he got up where he was sitting at and extended a hand towards you.

“Ok then I’m doing it right this time” you looked at him confused, not knowing where he was gonna go with it “I promise to take you out on the best date you have ever been to, and the best date you will ever have. Can I please take you out?” his voice came out sweet and genuine, no trace of his usual teasing or playfulness.

You’d be caught dead before admitting that you actually do sometimes like his teasing playfulness but, at this moment, you realized you’ll also come to love this new side of him too.

You didn’t know what the future held for you, you didn’t know how things will play out from this moment on, you didnt even know if you wanted to know. But what you knew for certain, at this very small moment that was sure a new beginning for a new chapter of your lives, was that you were willing to go through anything with him by your side.

You took his extended hand as he helped you to your feet “Since you asked so nicely,” your eyes were locked on his as you kept his hands in yours “Maybe we can also continue where we left off afterwards” his eyes widened at your words, not being able to say anything as you started walking towards the door, making him follow after you.

“Where we left off? What do you mean by that? H-hey! Wait! What do you mean by that!” He asked hurriedly, wanting you to confirm that you meant what he desperately wanted you to mean.

You left him unanswered with a satisfied smile before opening the door, only to be met with a familiar tall woman, who also happened to be the owner of the library, smiling devilishly at you.

“Oh hey there cuties. You sure took your time in there huh?”

Oh for Archon’s sake.

It happened before you could react. The swift motion of the blade that one of the highest-ranked enemies you were battling with wielded, cut through your abdomen with sharp pain, leaving you choking on your breath as you stumbled away from the enemy. It was a mistake on your part. You were distracted, turning your head towards Aether, when you heard him grunt in an unmistakable sound of pain. Aether got a low hit from his side but was back in motion the next second, turning his focus onto the enemy as he quickly got back to fighting.

You instinctively covered your wound with one hand, warm, sticky blood making its way from your abdomen to your legs and to the ground fast enough that it left you with a feeling of fear. You had no time to give in to the pain. However, as your survival instincts peaked, the hot rush of adrenaline ran through your body like electricity, making you grip your weapon harshly. The enemy attacked again, wasting no time and certainly not waiting for you to catch a breath as he swung his blade sharply. You dodged in time, grunting from the pain that even this swift, slight motion gave you, resulting in the blade grazing your left cheek like paper.

You had no time to reflect on yet another wound as you got into your attack stance, the anger that heated your whole body, giving you a little more push to fight back. You swung your weapon harshly, sloppy from being wounded, as you fought back with the enemy. You could hear Aether and others fighting loudly, too focused on wiping out the entire army of the upper legion of the Abyss, as they killed one after the other.

You bit down on your lip, suddenly feeling ashamed of yourself for getting distracted in the heat of battle, the one mistake none of the others seemed to make as stupidly as you did. Your lack of being able to keep your attention in one place always came to bite you in the ass, and you were okay with that most of the time. But to think that you let that happen in a life-or-death situation like this made you feel foolish and incompetent with the people you’ve come to call your friends on this journey. You would be okay If it resulted in your death, but you would never forgive yourself If your stupidity cost you the lives of your friends.

As the enemy attacked again and again, it’s only intention to be transparent to you that he certainly wasn’t gonna stop until you took your last breath. You uncovered your wound to wield your weapon with both hands, with your dangerously decreasing stamina and sense of surroundings.

Your eyesight was becoming blurry, your slowly increasing dizziness making it harder for you to be aware of the enemy’s growing attacks. You were getting increasingly sloppy, the thin line between your will to survive and the need to close your eyes for a second at least, making it almost impossible to detect what was real and what was fake.

Were you fighting right now? Was there really a dangerously blood-lusting enemy in front of you, waiting to end what you could call a short-lived life? You didn’t even get to try all the foods of Teyvat yet, didn’t help Aether reunite with his sister, didn’t cook that one food Paimon wanted from you for over two weeks now, you didn’t get to revisit Mondstad -and oh how you missed the city of freedom- you didn’t get to revisit Angel’s Share or the Kamisato siblings and the Crux. You haven’t got to do anything yet.

You haven’t got to confess to Aether yet.

Your eyes slowly opened back up, your confused eyes meeting with the gray sky. Before you could look at your surroundings from your position on the ground, the sounds caught up to you first. Screams, blades crashing on one another, and the familiar voice of the blonde traveler were enough to pull you back into reality.

However, before you could even get your head off the hard ground you were laying on, the enemy you were battling against stood over you with a sick grin, seemingly very satisfied that he finally got you where he wanted.

Contrary to your sickeningly fast beating heart, your body wasn’t obeying any of your brain’s orders to survive. Every single part of your brain was screaming at you to move, an alarmingly increasing rush of fear consuming your body, making it clear that If you didn’t do something now, these were going to be your last moments. Your eyes glanced to your sides in panic, opposing to your frozen body, as you caught a glimpse of your weapon.

Once again, it happened before you could react. The body that was frozen out of fear just a few agonizing seconds ago reacted before your brain caught up to your movements. Just a second ago, your eyes fell on the weapon that was next to you, and the next second, the same weapon’s shaft was in your hand in a tight grip, the other side of the weapon cutting right through the enemy’s body that was hovering over you.

You caught the guy’s eyes on top of you, his eyes wide from the unexpected attack that happened in mere seconds, leaving him with a weapon cutting right through his chest as his blood spilled down onto your face.

And then, he took his last breath, leaving his body limp as he fell to your side.

I’m alive, you thought to yourself. I’m alive. I’m alive. Hot tears threatened to spill from your eyes as the aftershock of the whole situation started settling in. I’m alive, you thought, just a second before all the adrenaline slowly left your body, almost mocking you with the way it made the wounds from your body known to you again. The sharp, agonizing pain from your abdomen left you breathless once again, leaving you coughing for air, only resulting in coughing up more blood.

‘’And that was the last of them,’’ you heard the voice of Aether, seemingly out of breath as a few others started talking. ‘’Archons, finally! I need a long bath after this.’’ you heard another sound chime in, followed by another. ‘’You guys know what this calls for? A celebration feast tonight, and it’s all on me!’’ you heard a few people start cheering and laughing, unable to make out who was who.

You smiled, nonetheless. You wanted to be able to join them and cheer with them, but your body was tired. You decided it was nothing a little nap wouldn’t be able to fix. Besides, you were already feeling your eyes threaten to close, begging you to rest just a little. Who were you to resist? You were sure the others would understand. It was just gonna be a little nap, and then you could go and join the celebration feast with them. Before closing your eyes, you also decided that you would confess to Aether. But before that, you just needed to rest your eyes for a little while...

‘’Hey, where’s-’’ Aether asked, frowning as he looked at the others. The little celebration talk died down as they all seemed to notice the girl’s absence.

“Where is she?” The golden hero asked again, his voice trembling from the panic overtaking his body.

“Hey, relax, I’m sure she’s somewhere around-“ Aether ignored other’s voices as he frantically looked around. You were there a moment ago. He saw you fighting, he was sure. You were okay, you looked okay a moment ago.

When was the moment ago he recalled back to? His brain started flooding with the flashes of the battle that took place just a moment ago, trying to recall back the last time he heard your voice in the heat of it. When was it? Where were you?

He started walking fastly around the bodies of the Abyss soldiers, trying to get a glimpse of your familiar clothes. Surely you weren’t among them? Maybe you were just sitting under a tree, trying to catch your breath? Yeah, that seemed reasonable. After all, there was no way you’d be lying amongst these bodies, right? No, he wouldn’t let something like that happen in the first place, he was sure.

Then, he caught sight of the familiar colors you wore everyday. Right next to an Abyss soldier’s lifeless body.

His eyes widened in terror as he realized that you were lying next to it, unconscious.

His body moved on its own as he rushed over to your body, almost tripping over the bodies on the ground.

“Hey, hey hey hey! Why are you lying here? Come on, this is no place to take a nap!” he shook your body frantically as his own body started running cold with fear at your unresponsiveness

“Open your eyes, come on come on come on…” some watched in fear, some watched in shock and some watched in sympathy as the golden hero of Teyvat held his partner’s body close to him, desperately trying to talk a dead corpse into coming back to life.

“No no no no… don’t- don’t do this” a sob escaped his lips, “Please, please open your eyes. Come on, open your eyes, please. I’m begging you please don’t-“ another sob “Please don’t leave me”

All of a sudden, it started raining. Aether thought of it as a sick joke when the first rain drop fell on your face, followed by others. You hated the rain.

He looked up at the sky with a scowl. It was bright, not even a cloud in sight. The sun’s burning gaze shone down at him, as if it was mocking him.

He looked back down at your body on his lap. The scorching sun above was making him feel like he was in the depths of hell, yet your body seemed to be getting colder.

He decided that he hated the sun that day.

You were walking in the hallway, trying to get to your next class. It was a normal day really. Nothing out of the usual was happening. You were pretty happy since it was literature and you’d get to see Scara since you haven’t seen him all day. A small smile formed on your lips.

You remembered the incident that happened at the haunted house. The feeling of his heart beat right under you was a feeling you never wanted to forget, If anything you wanted to feel that again.

You kept walking with the memory of Scara in your mind, as you gave out a happy sigh. Unbeknownst to you, a certain purple haired girl was getting ready to approach you from where she was.

“Hey there.” you stopped in your tracks to look at the tall female. If you remembered correctly her name was Mona and she was the president of the astrology club.

“Oh hi.” You gave her an awkward smile, not knowing what she wanted from you.

“So, I’ve heard you’re going to the home coming with Scaramouche?” she asked you with a raised brow that gave you an icky feeling inside.

“Uh, yeah? Why.” you asked trying to seem as polite as possible.

“Well, are you guys dating?” you tried to keep your composure at the suddenly question and slowly shook your head.

“I mean no but-“

“Great! Then you don’t mind me asking him to the homecoming do you?”

You frowned at the question. You already told her you were going with him, why did it matter that you guys weren’t dating?

“Uh, I guess no? Do whatever you want.” you said trying to end the conversation as soon as possible.

“Good. I suggest you find yourself another date then. You know, to not go alone.” she gave you a smile that made your stomach turn in anxiety. She was being so genuine yet it felt so fake. It was almost like she was looking down on you.

“Well since Scara didn’t agree to go with you yet, I guess I’m not going alone for the time being.” you gave her a roll of eyes as you stepped next to her to go to your class.

“And good luck with that.” you added and took off.

16- Bonding time

“Ok I think this is the location they sent us.” you looked up from your phone to the entrance way for the haunted house.

“Was this even planned?” you looked to your side to Hu Tao, who shrugged in response.

“Who cares, it’ll be fun.” she was right, you both were a big fan of scary stuff and would watch horror movies for fun or to criticize the horrible acting in them so you were sure this wasn’t gonna faze you one bit.

Right?

“Oh here they are.” You were greeted by the rest of the group when you entered the house. Your eyes immediately looked around for Scara, spotting him next to Xiao, with an unreadable expression on his face.

“Whose plan was this again.” Venti sighed in annoyance. He wasn’t good with horror stuff nor was he expecting something like this. He just wanted to get drunk and go home.

“Well it was originally mine since I thought it’d be a good bonding activity.” Childe replied with a smile on his face.

“A haunted house for bonding activity? No wonder no one wants to date you.” Lumine rolled her eyes at the ginger boy in front of her as he leaned against the wall.

“Come on don’t say that, I promise I’ll take you to way more entertaining places if we date.”

“Oh really? Like where?”

“My dorm.” He replied with a teasing smirk which earned him a roll of eyes from everyone.

“So how are we doing this?” You asked, trying to make eye contact with Scara but failing. He seemed to be looking everyone but you. That made you sulk a little as you planned to get closer to him today. It was alright though, you’d get your chance.

“I talked to the places owner and apparently we can form 3 groups of 4 people. There’ll be puzzles and stuff to get to the next room and every group has to solve their own puzzles to continue. Whoever gets to the exit first wins.”

Everyone looked around at eachother, silently trying to decide who to group with. You, on the other hand, walked up to Scara and put your arms around his shoulder, pressing yourself onto him.

“Well me and my bestie Scara will be in the same group so decide for yourselves.” the purple haired boy sighed at that and slowly pushed you off of him. “Do I even get a choice.”

“Nope.” you replied cheerfully as you waited for others to form their groups.

There were 3 doors that opened up as you announced your groups to the manager. Your group walked into the 3rd once, only to be met with complete darkness as you waited for the first puzzle to begin.

“If you ever feel scared don’t feel shy to throw yourself at me Y/n.” You rolled your eyes at Heizou’s remark. “Yeah sure as If I’ll be scared of something like this.”

“My suggestion is up in the air if you change your mind.”

“You clearly don’t know me so good luck with that.” You scoffed as you rolled your eyes again. You weren’t one to be easily scared, you’ve been playing horror games since you were in elementary, not even flinching at the jump scares. You’d be caught dead before you would actually get scared of something like this. 

Soon, the room lit up with the light coming from a small lamp above you. You all started looking around, inspecting the room.

“First step is, find the key hidden in the room in the limited time and go onto the next room. And please don’t harm any decorations they’re really expensive.”

You chuckled at the guy speaking from the speakers as you walked your way around the room. 

“God I don’t even know why I’m here this is so stupid.”

You turned to Scara who was still seated in the middle of the room, with his arms crossed. “Come on I’m not letting you ruin our chances of winning. So start trying to find the key.”

He scoffed at Heizou as he slowly walked around the room. You turned your back to him as you kept on your search of finding the key.

Your hand reached up to open up a human sized closet as you smiled knowingly. I bet there’s someone gonna be in here trying to scare me you thought to yourself and opened it.

As you thought, a man in all black jumped up at you, screaming loudly. You were not fazed in the slightest. You tilted your head to the side with a smile. “Eh not really scary. You need to work on your scream. B for the effort though.” Heizou and Scara looked at the scene in front of them with their brows raised, clearly amused from your actions. The man went back into the closet, probably using the secret passage way there to go to another room.

“She wasn’t kidding huh.” Heizou chuckled to himself.

“Clearly not.” Scara said before he went back to finding the key as soon as possible so this stupid game could finish already.

He wasn’t really finding any fun in this situation, why would people pay to be “scared” especially when it wasn’t even scary.

“Aha! Here it is.” you held up the key you found inside a notebook as you smiled widely at the guys.

“Well well it seems you’re rather a pro at this huh?”

“Well, playing Eyes since you were a little kid pays off at these kind of times.”

You unlocked the door, waiting for the guys to catch up to you.”

The next room lit up as the door you just opened closed behind you. There was a big operation table with a covered body on it, the light directly hitting it.

“Now the next stage for you guys is for you to find the key inside this dead body. Times running.”

You all walked up to the operation table. Heizou lifted up the white cloth on the fake body and he winced at the sight in front of him.

It was a truly impressive fake body, you had to admit. It had openings here and there with so much fake blood and fake organs on it that made the whole thing seem real.

“I’m not putting my hand in there.” Scara said in a monotone voice as he crossed his arms and waited for one of you to do it.

“It’s ok to be scared Scara I’m here to protect you dont worry.” you smiled teasingly at him. 

“I’m not fucking scared. It just looks disgusting.”

“Yeah yeah whatever you say.”

You turned back to the operation table and rolled up your sleeves. “Alright here it goes.”

Heizou had a disgusted look on his face as you dipped your hands into the fake body. You stuck your tongue out as you tried finding the key inside its stomach, but no luck.

You pulled out your hands and pulled out the eyes. There was nothing there as well.

You sighed, clearly irritated, and looked at the body parts. Where the hell could it be?

You hummed as you opened the body’s mouth and snuck your hand inside its throat.

“I’m done watching this shit tell me when you find it.” Scara said as he walked up to the other end of the room.

“Alright suit yourself. You’re missing the fun though.”

“I question your definition of fun sometimes.”

You gasped loudly as your hand came in contact with a metallic object. You grasped it quickly and pulled it outside, holding it above your head.

“I found it!” Heizou clapped at the scene, clearly amused by your reactions.

“Well done, I do feel a bit guilty leaving you to do all the work though.”

“Eh it’s fine I like these kind of stuff.”

Scara muttered under his breath. “You don’t say.”

“Alright let’s go.”

You opened the next door, only to be met with complete darkness.

“Eh? Are we supposed to find the light switch or something or did they forget to turn it on?” You questioned as you slowly started walking towards the room, with your hands outstretched so you don’t bump into anything.

You felt a tug at your sweatshirt from behind. “Who is that?”

“Oh it’s me sorry I decided it’d be better if we stick together like this.” Heizou replied.

“Come on Scara hold Heizous hand we don’t wanna leave you behind.” You said as you kept walking further.

“No, I’m not holding hands for this stupid game.”

“Maybe you’d like to hold Y/n’s hand instead?”

“Shut it.”

You heard Scara walk towards your voices as you progressed further. So far no obstacles in your way. Was there a power outage or something?

“Remind me to never go out with any of you again.”

“Dont say that now, if you actually tried to indulge in the game you’d have fun.”

“I don’t waste my time for stuff like this, this is so pointless, I will never accept to-“

all of a sudden, there was a sudden tug at Scara’s leg. A pair of hands gripping tightly onto his leg, he suddenly jumped up before violently kicking the shit out of those hands.

You and Heizou heard a sudden scream from an unfamiliar voice as you turned your backs and tried to find Scara.

“Scara? You ok?” You called out as you tried to make your way towards him.

“Let. Fucking. Go. Of my leg.” He shouted as he kept kicking the poor guy on the floor.

You suddenly crushed into someone as you were making your way towards him, and with a loud yelp you were both on floor.

Your head laid across something soft as you grunted in pain, and tried holding yourself up.

The room become bright, blinding all of you for a few seconds before you got a good look around your surroundings.

You looked down at the person beneath you, only to be met with indigo eyes staring back at you.

You felt his heartbeat thumping loudly against your chest as your heart started matching his rhythm.

“You fucking idiot! I’m just an actor why did you beat me like that!” you yelled at the sudden voice as you tried getting off of Scara, failing a few times because of how bad your hands and legs were shaking, you looked back to see the said actor sitting on the floor, holding his hand in pain.

“Tch. You should know not to touch people all of a sudden.” Scara replied as he sat up, dusting himself off.

You tried avoiding eye contact with him, and bowed to the man in front of you.

“I’m really sorry for my friends behavior. He probably got scared so please forgive him.”

“Ha- no the fuck I wasn’t scared-“ you shot him a glare as he silenced himself and the man on the floor got up and dusted himself off.

“I’ll show you to the exit.” You sighed in defeat and a pout formed on your face. Well that was fun.

Heizou watched the two of you while you were on top of Scara and to say the least, he was quite amused by the reaction from both of you. He has never seen the short guy this embarrassed in his life. He seemed to let all his guard down when he let that expression rest on his face as he stared at you.

 Then again, it was bound to happen. Sooner or later he will show his true self to you, opening up fully. 

And who knows, maybe something more than a friendship will bloom one day.
