i remember that they made kind of a big deal about the way that viggo respects his opponents and cares for the lives of his men, whilst krogan sees them as meatshields and literally doesn't care whether they die. kind of curious to explore a canon-divergent au from triple cross, where because viggo dies, krogan just straight up runs out of lackies to order. without his mitigating influence, too many die on fool's errands. like johann can offer salaries as competitive as they come, when you have a 5% survival rate you are probably not taking that job!

It is during a daily flight, looking over the construction work going on, on their dragon base, that Hiccup lets out a sudden laugh. Toothless’ earfins perk at the joyous sound and he looks over his shoulder to get the best look of his human that he can get.

Hiccup does him the favor of meeting his gaze, leaning over. They’re having a leisure flight, so he can do that without suffering the consequence of being thrown off balance. Then Hiccup points towards the island they’ve come to call their home the past few weeks and Toothless looks over.

“Do you see it, Bud?” Hiccup asks him with a grin. “The island is in the shape of a sleeping dragon!”

And Toothless looks over to find that his human is, once again, right. From their current point of view, the dormant Edge volcano almost appears to look like the body of a dragon as it lies on its side, the white peak its folded wing. Its head juts out from their left, craning with a swerve to make it look almost curled up. The tail comes out of their right side and finishes the pose, continuing a little further for another bend.

It’s completely abstract, there are no literal features like eyes or a nose or a mouth or even limbs of any kind, but the overal shape remains that of a dragon. Toothless purrs at the sight.

What a curious find. An island in the shape of a dragon has become the perfect haven for the Dragon Riders.

“Come on, Bud, lets tell the others,” Hiccup decides and his Night Fury silently agrees, veering to the right and heading back towards the base, where the rest of the Dragon Riders work on the clubhouse.

The base sits snug at the dragon’s belly, safe within its gigantic coils.

so, i’ve been thinking, what value does johann actually add to the villain alliance? like he was useful as a mole, but he revealed himself to hiccup in the first episode of season 6. viggo has his tribe and his knoweldge of dragons and his intelligence. krogan has his flyers and his ability to control his singetail in a way that is superior to the rest of the flyers. everyone talks about him like he’s the final boss but he’s at best krogan’s sidekick.

change of plans! viggo gets bitten by a lycanwing and ryker imprisons him and then hiccup + the gang raid the ship he's on. and they have to deal with this strange little guy back at the edge who doesn't quite seem to know how to be a dragon

I did it, I finished another chapter!

Side bar: I was reading through notes people put in the bookmarks and one mentioned some cringy aspects (what a funny thing to note on something you bookmarked lol) and I remembered that this fic started out really unserious.

It was supposed to be a handful of fics from this AU, but I never intended to turn it into a full story in any regard. So I definitely added bits just to be silly, bits I would have omitted had I gone into this project with the intention of writing it like it matters.

But here I am 5 years later trying to make it all make sense and refusing to edit out the pieces that are "cringe."

I think I would like to revisit some of the art I created for it way back when. My skill has so drastically improved, so it'd be cool to see the side-by-side comparison.

intro post so hello all! i got sucked back into the httyd fandom by the live action remake and remembered how much i loved this franchise.

i intend to mostly write snippets of toothless + hiccup friendship, and also vigcup, though we'll see how that evolves over time. my writing can be found under the tag #overuse of italics. you'll never guess why.

favourite characters in order are toothless, then hiccup, then viggo. other favourites include snotlout because he's the only one with a modicum of common sense, and ruffnut. i don't quite have the words for it but i find her incredibly compelling.

vigcup soulmate au where you become telepathic on your 20th birthday

The day before his birthday, Hiccup’s head had started hurting. Fishlesgs had patted him on the back and reasurred him that it would disappear as soon as the soulmate telepathy link slotted in place, and Tuffnut had declared that he could hit him with Macey, so he’d hurt more on the outside of his head and forget about it.

Hiccup had declined, and retired to the back of Dragon’s Edge to watch the sun rise, fiddling with Inferno’s inner machinery to try and distract himself. Toothless purred softly in reassurance.

Migraines should not disappear like that—?

Sorry about that, Hiccup replied, feeling the bond slot in place and the headache alleviate in a flash.

You cannot be serious. Though this feels oddly pleasant—is there no way at all to disguise what goes through this bond?—you are years late, you are young enough to be my son—
