there is a door in my apartment that is not a door. it sits caddycorner to the real door to my bedroom, and should open up into the bathroom.

but it doesn't.

i dreamt about opening that door once. with shaking hands that were wet with sweat (or something else), reaching out to grasp a handle that is not there. i found it when my eyes were closed, and when i opened the door it didn't lead to the bathroom anymore. it lead to somewhere so bright it made my eyes hurt even through my eyelids, and when i lifted my hand away from the door handle to shade my eyes, the door quietly closed with a resounding click.

there has never been a door in the apartment that is not a door. it does not sit beside the other. the wall is blank and painted landlord grey, and sometimes you can hear groaning from the bathroom pipes on the other side that occasionally sounds like words.
