Meet the Party - Mordain Shieldbiter
Hello fellow adventurers, it’s time to introduce you to our Dragonborn Paladin: Mordain Shieldbiter. The Player:
Mordain will be played by our resident pally super tank, Ikkarin. Our go-to-guy when you need something taunted and bashed with a hammer, he’s all about that mace, ‘bout that mace... A newbie to Dungeons & Dragons, but no stranger to party politics, Ikkarin’s main gaming experience stems from PC MMO’s with a long stint as a guild and raid leader through World of Warcraft expansions (Wrath of the Lich King, Burning Crusade.) Gaming was an early hobby, starting with the Sega Mega Drive, before jumping online at 10 years old with Mechwarrior 4. With a soft spot for epic fantasy games with awesome stories, like Final Fantasy and Neverwinter nights, it’s no surprise Ikkarin is joining us at the table.
The Character: Mordain Shieldbiter Blue Dragonborn Lawful Good Paladin of Tyr Soldier (Infantry) Background 18 Str; 12 Dex; 12 Con; 9 Int, 10 Wis; 14 Cha. 18 AC; 11 Max HP.
“Shieldbiter. A child’s name.” the plate-clad Paladin spat in disgust, “What does a child know of war?”
A youngling blessed with prodigious skill with martial weapons, he was hand-picked for the Draconian army long before any of his peers had considered sticking their snouts outside of their family holdings. While there were misgivings in the family of one so young being sent to train, and eventually fight, the young blue dragonborn was filled with pride and elated at the thought of being able to bring such honour and distinction to both kin and clan. The training he faced was arduous, designed for one older than he, but the youngling was determined: nothing would stop him in his rise through the ranks, nothing would stop his chance to bring his clan the glory he knew it deserved. Besides, how bad could the battlefield be?
He was too young they argued, too inexperienced. The battlefield was no place for him yet, in a few more years he would be ready, he hadn’t earned his adult name yet - what could a child do that the unit couldn’t do already? His commanding officer ordered him into the ranks of the infantry he’d been training with for so long, accepting them into their lines with mail gauntlets clanging onto his plate pauldrons, clapping in encouragement,
“Good to have you here ‘biter, that sword of yours better be ready for this.”
Heart pounding in his chest, chaos seemed to explode around him instantly. Everything moving too fast; too loud. The burning; the screaming of horses and men. The screaming of Dragonborn. He whirled around, sword arm limp at his side, eyes wide in terror: the metallic smell of blood was flooding his nose, his mouth. He couldn’t breathe, couldn’t move.  He didn’t hear the pounding of hooves at his back. He didn’t hear the swing of the maul, or the wind as it closed in on the back of his head. He didn’t hear the clanging on his plate as he fell to the ground. His vision blurry, he barely made out the feet that stopped at his head before the pain turned his consciousness to black.
“Get him into the cart, got a nice set of armor on him. Might be useful.”

Meet the Party - Party Leader
Tumblr media
Hello fellow adventurers, I’m Galthfi, and I’ll be your Dungeon Master and party leader on this expedition.  I - like the majority of our party - am new to playing Dungeons and Dragons. I’m aware of the world, and a good portion of the lore, but have never actually played a table top role-playing game before.  My gaming experience comes mainly from PC gaming; typically fantasy based role playing games. The DnD universe of The Forgotten Realms was my introduction to both gaming in general, and role-playing games specifically. I started out with Neverwinter Nights (as a halfling fighter) and never looked back. Sort of. I kept going with Neverwinter Nights 2, before picking up World of Warcraft with a group of friends. I’ve dabbled in Guild Wars (1 and 2) and I particularly enjoy the Dragon Age franchise.
I usually “roll” rogue classes, or at the very least, I stick loosely around the ranged damage roles. My default will usually be a ranger/hunter (I’m so dedicated, I’ve got a ranger symbol tattoo!) although, I’ve recently been enjoying World of Warcraft as a dual wielding assassination rogue! I also play as a healer with my holy priest when needed.
If I wasn’t taking up the mantle as dungeon master, you’d probably find me playing as a half elf ranger. Alas, being a DM is a dirty job, but someone has to do it…

Introductions - the Party Brief
Welcome fellow adventurer,
Posts here follow the adventures of a newbie party and their fledgling Dungeon Master, as they attempt to get to grips with the universe and rules, as well balancing good play, with good beer.
Our party consists of our DM Galthfi, and players Ikkarin, GSoldier, HobbitJambo, and Sarah - confirmation of  the others who may wish to join our brave band will come shortly. All are firm friends for many a year, with varying experiences of fantasy worlds, gaming and role playing. We all have one thing in common: we have never played a table top role playing game before.
We will be starting off our journey playing the 5th edition of the game, and working our way through some of the pre-made campaigns to ease ourselves into the world.
We’ll be posting our progress, our “meet the party” profiles, information about the characters we build, as well as some (hopefully) amusing stories along the way.
Our ask box will be open for anything you’d like to ask about how our play through is going, any suggestions you have or any comments!
‘til next time...
