- He's Laura’s distant cousin (Leonard's grandson down the line)

- Dale's family moved from England to another country, this resulting in the name “Vanderboom” being translated to “Vandermeer”

- His ties to the Vanderboom clan allow him to see the secrets of the lake. Ghosts, cubes, visions, cubes, shadow beings, as well as cubes!

- He doesn't know he’s related to Laura, but does feel close to her somehow

- He feels protected around Harvey, like he’s some kind of guardian angel...

- He earned the status of “infamous detective” over his obsession with Rusty Lake. Hundreds of reports from him would go in to the station, swearing that there was something going on at the seemingly abandoned relaxation centre. No one but Dale ever saw a thing

- After a long break from his job, Dale forced himself to keep away from Rusty Lake. That is, until a certain murder case caught his attention...

HIYA! Sorry it took so long for me to respond! I’m very glad that you’re interested, and decided to write a mini fanfic for the idea!

The autumn wind rustled against the blue tent set up by the main road. Most simply pass it by, thinking that the silly attraction was just a waste of time. However, one man found it quite the opposite.

Kicking rocks as he passed them, Albert made his way to the tent. He was a regular visitor, though he never once got his fortune told. That wasn’t what he went for, it was the fortune teller who had been setting up around the lake for some time. She often travelled to different towns, so Albert made sure to value every second he could be around her.

With a bouquet in hand, he planned to make this day the most valuable.

As he approached the tent, a young woman with red hair stepped out. She knelt to the ground to fasten the stakes as the wind blew harder.

“Miss Reiziger!”

The woman looked up. “Good morning Albert! You can call me Ida, by the way, no need to be formal when there aren’t any patrons around”. She frowned, and Albert’s eyes wandered around his empty surroundings for a moment.

“That’s a shame, you’re very talented.”

“Thank you. Mind telling that to a few people in town?” Ida fastened the last stake into the ground, and stood, wiping her forehead.

“So, what brings y-“ Ida eyed the bouquet in Albert’s hand, then looked back up at him.

“Oh! Um…th-these!” Albert rubbed the back of his neck as he held the bouquet out, unable to return Ida’s gaze. He took a deep breath “They…they’re for you. Ida, I believe I’ve-“

“Hold on.” Ida cut Albert off, and gently pushed the bouquet away. “I…I think today is the day you should get your fortune read, what do you say?” Her smile was wavering, which confused Albert, even scared him a bit, but he agreed.

Albert followed Ida into the tent, and sat down on a stool just in front of the enchanting crystal ball. Then, the telling began.

Albert was almost entranced, he had never seen something glisten so beautifully.

The images in the crystal ball began to flash, and Ida looked up to Albert to make sure he was paying attention. She had seen these images so many times before.

The first, a young boy with glasses and bandaged ears standing by Emma.

The second, a young woman pulling an arm out of a well.

The third, Albert dead in a chair.

If his heart wasn’t pounding out of his chest before, it was now. Albert looked up to Ida in panic, who had a solemn expression.

“What…what does this all mean…?” Is all he could manage.

Ida sighed. “It is your fate. You will be killed early by your sister’s son.”

“That…that can’t be true! Emma is infertile!”

“You can’t change fate, Albert. I’m sorry.”

Albert stood, shaking. “But…why?”

“I don’t know…this is all I have seen.”

Albert took a deep breath. He handed Ida the payment for the session. Before walking out of the tent, he turned to her. “Is that why you didn’t want the bouquet? You think I did something bad?” Ida looked to her lap and stayed silent. Albert sighed, and made his way home.

“This can’t be possible.” He kept telling himself. “Everything about that prediction is rubbish, Emma can’t have children. It’s not possible!”

The moment he opened the door, Emma’s head shot towards Albert. “Al!” She waved, smiling wider than she ever had. Albert took a step back out of shock. “What’s going on?”

“I may have thumbed through some of the pages of that book on forbidden alchemy you brought up from the basement, and found a cure for my affliction!” Emma raised her hands in triumph.

Albert’s heart began to beat faster once more. “What…what affliction?”

“I’m finally pregnant!” Albert’s blood ran cold.

Emma’s son, Frank, was growing up a talented young man, much to Albert’s disgust. Despite being deaf, he had managed to learn to play the violin, and learned it very quickly at that. He was far too talented.

The tension between Albert and Frank was quite obvious, especially to Emma. She decided, one day, to try and help them get along. With some help from Samuel, a small swing set was made for the backyard. She sent Albert out to play with Frank, hoping that a little time together would do them good.

Emma began to worry when only Albert returned for supper.

- The first mask Albert made was from wood he stole from Samuel. His brother was angry at first, but then realized that letting Albert have the wood was the least he could do for him

- He enjoys hunting rabbits and deer…a lot…too much

- He tried to woo Ida before Samuel even met her, but he could never catch her interest

- This, of course, is because Ida knew his future and what he’s able to do, but Albert always blamed it on the injury Samuel gave him

- While Mary favoured Emma and Samuel over him, Albert was James’ favourite

- When he was still alive, James told Albert all about the family’s pursuit of immortality, and the sacrifices it would require

- He learns from Ida that he would be killed by Emma’s son, and tried to get rid of him in an effort to change his fate, but kept him alive to eventually collect his sacrifice

- Albert made an effort to collect the sacrifices from his family, in hopes that he could gain immortality for himself

- He created Rose for the sole purpose of collecting her sacrifice, but soon became protective of her

- Rose was the first thing that made Albert feel something in a long time

- All he remembers was his uncle getting really angry after his grandmother told him he wasn’t playing right, and then everything going silent

- Albert ended up taking care of him, he had nothing against him. Plus, he was a part of Ida

- He was always a gentle soul (much to Albert’s displeasure)

- Birdwatching became one of his hobbies, though Albert tried to discourage it

- Leonard asks Albert where he took his parents occasionally, and his stories vary. “They were very sick”, “They were too poor”, “They didn’t want you”

- In 1914, when war was threatening to break out, Albert insisted Leonard to enlist

- Albert wasn’t a big fan of Leonard by that time, and would do anything to get him to leave

- Though, when heard Leonard was going to be sent home due to injury, he couldn’t help but feel a bit of guilt. That was something unfamiliar to him, to say the least

- Now here’s a guy who absolutely hates being around people

- He wanted to start a cult for years, but hesitated because that would include having to talk to people

- He never changes his clothes, and punishes anyone who points it out

- He speaks very loudly without realizing it

- He’s hypersensitive to smells, and can’t stand being in or near any of the Idol’s rooms

- Has a harmful stim where he picks at his skin, but he’s trying to replace it with his clothes

- Used to love to run his fingers through Monster Hunter’s hair (and totally doesn’t cry about not being able to anymore sometimes!!)

- Back at the Academy, there was an inside joke that he was going to destroy the world if people wouldn’t stop being so loud. It’s a bit less of a joke now

- He can’t feel sympathy whatsoever. As a salesman, he learned how to fake it. Now, however, he’s going to end the world so pretending doesn’t really matter to him anymore
