Continued from here!
She can hear the concern in his words, the way he tries to hide it beneath the veneer of coolness, that perfected mask of calmness, betrayed by the complexity in his voice. She moves slightly closer to him, already feeling buzzed.
“You see Elijah,” her tongue freezes on his name, and she has to move away from his overpowering scent to speak again, “I’m worried they’re not going to handle it well, you know. My death,” she stage whispers, leaning so that her jaw is resting in her palm, “and that they’ll try to stop the sacrifice. And I’m worried about the actual sacrifice.”

[ TAKEN ] receiver has a small injury and sender wipes away some of the blood then licks it off their hand.
Elena hisses as Klaus cleans away the blood from her wound, that she’d sustained while brushing her arm against a nail, and licks it. Of course he does, he always has to appear monstrous, never letting her forget who he is.
Elena quirks a brow at him, “didn’t have enough during the sacrifice, did you?”

Everything is on hold for now, my dad had an accident. He’s stable but he’s got multiple rib fractures. Time is a foreign concept now. Everything is. And after all this, his concern was that I wasn’t worried. He’s got an oxygen mask on and he doesn’t want me to worry or be panicked. I can’t fathom how much he loves me. I just hope he gets better.

Finally, even if it had been for a few moments, she’d caused his words to fail him. It didn’t feel like victory, however, not when she heard what he had to say next.
She frowned, she’d known that Stefan had gone to save Damon, but she hadn’t really thought about why Klaus wanted Stefan. She had assumed that it was because Klaus wanted someone to be his lackey, she’d never thought about what Tristan was telling her now.
She took the photograph from him, her eyes shining with tears as she saw it. Klaus with his arm around Stefan’s neck, the two of them smiling, like friends.
She remembered what Klaus had told her at the sacrifice, that he had other plans for Stefan. She wondered why Stefan himself never told her. She was only half listening to Tristan, her thumb tracing the lines on Stefan’s face.
He could’ve told her, she would’ve understood.
Unless, of course, he himself didn’t remember. That was likely.
It was also likely that Stefan had kept this from her, likely ashamed of his past.
She looked up to see that Tristan had walked away. Maybe it was because he didn’t deal with human emotions, but it was a relief to not be in his overpowering presence for a moment.
She knew that Stefan didn’t remember much of his time in the twenties; it only made sense that instead of bloodlust, it was Klaus’ compulsion that had brought about the blurring of memories.
That had to be it.
She couldn’t believe that Stefan was friends with Jenna’s murderer. At least not in the past, even if she didn’t know about the present. Stefan had been leaving a trail of bodies behind himself after all, maybe Stefan and Klaus were friends again.
She was drawn out of her thoughts as Tristan approached her again, her neck snapping up as she shoved the photo in her back pocket. It was likely the only picture from her old life that she would get to keep.
She tilted her head to the side, thinking he’d want to shake hands, as it were. The thought seemed dumb when he spoke about bloodletting. She swallowed heavily as his eyes fell to her neck, but was relieved when he started undoing his own cufflinks. That was followed by panic again, as she realised what he was going to do.
Greater things, he was right, she thought as she stared at the drop of blood that had collected on his wrist, he did have a flair for the dramatics. And a superiority complex to boot.
She swallowed heavily as she wondered what to do, but then he was telling her to drink, ordering her, and she bristled. She wanted to lash out, but much like the night of the sacrifice, she knew there was too much at stake for her to do it.
It was just a drop anyway.
She unglued herself from her spot, and walked towards him in something like trepidation. But, she needed to do this, she needed to ensure everyone would be safe, and somehow ensure guarantee without hurting his ego.
She held his wrist in her hand, more to ground herself than anything else. Her eyes meet his, and she could see the challenge, the confidence; he was a man accustomed to having his own way. Not like Klaus, who wanted to bend nature to his will in his anger, or even Elijah’s quiet contemplation, no, this was intrinsic for him.
She brought his wrist up to her lips, closing her eyes as she tried not to think of how intimate this was. She wrapped her lips around his skin, her tongue sweeping across his skin, almost cringing away from the taste of metal, but holding herself firm.
She pulled back when his skin was clean, and before she could think twice, think better of it, think that she was tempting a monster, held up her own wrist.
“I do think we both need to do this, if we’re in it together,” her heart drummed in her ears but she started firm. She wanted to know, needed to see how he’d react. She’d called them partners after all.
Besides, this was the rest of her life now.
Elena wasn't a fool, or at least she liked to think she wasn't. Tristan was growing impatient. Perhaps not in the way Damon would, not that she'd mention that analogy to her would be captor, but he was impatient nonetheless. Disgusted by the comparison she'd made between him and Elijah, his obvious hate against Klaus. Whoever he was, he was no friend of the originals.
How far would I let you push it?
What a warning, she thought, how obvious and hidden at the same time. Clearly, he'd been playing this game for a long time.
"There's not much I can do against you," she let the words fall easily from her lips, because there was no hiding what was happening here. There was no hiding her lack of power and his absolute control of it. "This is the only chance I'm ever going to have to get something from you, to negotiate. You can't blame me for pushing to my advantage, not really."
He spoke of other vampires a shade more generously than he spoke of Klaus. But not by much. She thought of Damon and Stefan, of Lexi, of Rose and Trevor, and she was inclined to agree with him. They did spend their time hunting, feeling guilty. The obvious deviations were Klaus and Elijah, each intent upon their goal, wanting to fulfil their deepest desire. Tristan seemed to claim there was more to his existence than that of others.
She was proved right when he spoke of history and the world. She gasped as his hand wrapped around her throat. Her pulse thrummed wildly against his palm, but she forced herself to look at him. It wouldn't take much for him, she surmised, to compel her. His words had her, unwittingly, enraptured. He was so much different than every other vampire she had dealt with. Even Katherine, who had seemed like the most calculated of them all. She shivered as his fingers trailed down her neck, before sinking in.
"So you....had some bearing on what happened the world? I'm guessing you were involved in some-" she broke off as pondered over everything he had said, "many significant events in history." Tristan's confidence, his sense of superiority, was something like a second skin, and she was forced to believe that he was telling the truth.
She massaged her neck when he let her go, his words seemed to sink into her skin by then. A hefty price. Being his.
It made her shiver.
Her heart sped up as she considered her limited options; if he was right, he'd be able to protect everyone from Klaus, at the small price of her blood. Klaus would take it too. She'd be a blood bag in either case, but at least with Tristan, there would be the illusion of autonomy. The guarantee of safety.
The only thing Klaus would ever guarantee her was more bloodshed. More violence. More death and grief.
"Okay," she said finally, her heart in her throat, wondering if she'd taken the right decision. "I - We have a deal." The words felt heavy, and she barely forced them out. She was sure she was trembling slightly, because she'd given away....everything. It seemed.
It wasn't as if he couldn't take it himself. Loyalty and blood. She could give him that, she supposed. She possessed both in spades, after all.
"What," she said softly, a different kind of fear filling her, "about Stefan?"

@lordofthestrix
“So, what you want,” she said, shivering, as she could still feel his lingering touch upon hers, his cool skin against her warmth rising within her, a new sort of nervousness. “Is me.”
She should’ve considered herself delusional, but Tristan had made it clear that he wanted her blood, and for some unfathomable reason, her loyalty. Or maybe, she contemplated, it was a game. Her loyalty, after all, would ensure an endless supply of her blood.
Not that he couldn’t take it right then if he really wanted to.
It wasn’t truly a deal if they weren’t on equal footing, but she couldn’t simply demand that. Not of an unknown, unpredictable vampire.
He didn’t seem impulsive, but looks could easily be deceiving.
“If I agree,” she started slowly, carefully weighting her words, “to your….offer,” her voice turned slightly bitter there, but she tried not to pay it mind, “you say you’ll protect the people I love. I made a similar deal like that with Elijah, the vampire who you say turned you, and it didn’t go so well for my aunt.
So, I want to know, how will you protect them?” She let her question hang in the space between them for a moment, before clearing her throat.
“There’s Jeremy, who doesn’t want to be protected, Bonnie, who’s too powerful of a witch to be fooled by vampires, and Stefan,” here, her voice cracked, but she barely gave it a moment before carrying on, “is already with Klaus, how will you protect him? I need to know these things, these important things, before we get to any deal.”

“Well then, share your thoughts.”
“Is that what you want,” Elena said as she looked at Tristan. He was the picture of control, old money and as she had come to know, nobility. “I doubt you would be interested in what I think. Do you not have skilled negotiators, trusted advisors, who will give you better advice? Whose word you can rely upon? Definitely more than a lowly human doppelgänger,” the words were barbed, resentment bleeding through them. She’d overheard them before after all, from the Strix vampires.
“But, if you really want to know, I think the way you do these inductions is ruthless. Join or die? It seems like a high price to pay, especially when you’ve rigged the game to suit your interests.”

“   I thought you loved him. ” (from sage, and omg welcome back! <3)
“I thought I did too,” Elena said, looking over to see Stefan’s receding back, “and I think I still do. But,” she paused, the events of the last few months playing in her mind on a loop, “I don’t think he’s the person I used to love. Not anymore. He’s changed, or maybe I’m finally seeing more of him, and it’s just - it’s difficult. I tried everything, but….I don’t think he loves me anymore.”

“   What ever could be more honorable besides taking care of one's family? ”
“Nothing,” the word was past her lips before she could even think, the answer instinctive in her. “There is nothing more honourable or worthy than that, I agree. But sometimes,” she paused, weighing her words, thinking of all the things Elijah usually did for his family, especially his brother, “it’s necessary to put ourselves first.”

“   While you may be content to accept defeat, it is certainly not how I approach things. ”
Elena pursed her lips, her heart beating softly as she stared at her doppelgänger. It was difficult to not get riled up by her, but then, that was usually Katherine’s intention. Elena didn’t want to give in.
“I think you and I have very different view on what a win is.”

“   You chose this for yourself. ”
“   I thought you were prepared. ”
“   You took my future from me, the one thing I wanted more than anything. ”
“   I would have died for you! ”
“   Do you know — I even felt pity for you? ”
“   The ones we love have the power to inflict the greatest scars. ”
“   What thing is more fragile than the human heart? ”
“   I have learned that a grave fraud is afoot. ”
“   Should I really deliver the message? ”
“   You cannot believe I shall welcome you back into my bed after your lies and deception? ”
“   I would never dream of concealing the truth of such important matters. ”
“   I must return to my family immediately. ”
“   I will not let you out of my sight. ”
“   Hush, child, all will be well. ”
“   We are in just as perilous a position. ”
“   Perhaps if she can destroy a reputation… she can restore one too. ”
“   This is an emergency. ”
“   We do not require your assistance. ”
“   This may be the answer to all of our problems. ”
“   Pretending that nothing is amiss is the perfect way to lure the ignorant into submission. ”
“   I know you must think me a fool, but my heart pays no heed to mere logic. ”
“   When I think of her, I only want to be near her, to be with her… despite all reason otherwise. ”
“   Perhaps I can arrange a rendezvous. ”
“   It follows no reason or sense, does it? ”
“   Where have you been all night? ”
“   Do you understand me? That we no longer trust each other? ”
“   Thank you for joining us. ”
“   I did not come here to be shamed by you, nor anyone else. ”
“   You may think me a villain, but I did what I thought I must. ”
“   No one ever truly helped me, or guided me in a different direction. ”
“   You wish to know the cruelest part of your deception? ”
“   I see now that was all a lie. ”
“   We should tempt scandal more often. ”
“   Your duplicity comes so naturally. ”
“   Improvement is all a matter of practice. ”
“   How are you faring? ”
“   You have not heard what people have been saying. ”
“   All will be well again, I promise you. ”
“   I am sure you wish to avoid any further unpleasantness. ”
“   Judge not, lest we too be judged. ”
“   Something troubles you. ”
“   I know you are a grown woman now, but I am still your mother, and you can come to me when you need advice. ”
“   Well, then, share your thoughts. ”
“   I am merely trying to be of help. ”
“   For what it is worth, I am sorry. ”
“   I came here to apologize to you. ”
“   I wish it had not happened this way. ”
“   Why should he be the one to choose your future? ”
“   Do you really want to be alone? ”
“   I am quite capable of doing more than you think. ”
“   I have defeated the best, and I'm confident I shall continue to do so. ”
“   I think you would be wise to leave. ”
“   We shall teach you the rules. ”
“   Seems I have been blessed with some beginner's luck. ”
“   Would you just get to the point? ”
“   Do you not ever get tired of pretending to be so perfect? ”
“   We may not be perfect, but at least we keep our promises. ”
“   I'm trying to be a man of my word. ”
“   Well, you certainly make it look difficult. ”
“   Tell me why you are so adamant. ”
“   Your help is greatly appreciated, but there is nothing more you can do. ”
“   I’m not exactly in the mood for music and finery this evening. ”
“   I may have been a trifle harsh with you. And I'm sorry. ”
“   So you admit it now? You were acting a fool? ”
“   You may hurt now, but the pain will pass. ”
“   We live under constant threat of danger. ”
“   I risk my life every day for love. ”
“   It takes courage to live outside the traditional expectations of society. ”
“   I'm not bound by the rules of society. ”
“   You know not the future that awaits. ”
“   Don't you touch me. Stay away! Just leave me alone! ”
“   This time next week, our ruse will be well and truly over. ”
“   I shall begin practicing straightaway! ”
“   I would have expected this from anyone but you. ”
“   I am sorry for everything I have done and said. ”
“   I know I do not always say the right things, and then the things I do say, well… They are not always what you wish to hear. ”
“   However difficult forgiving someone may be, it is necessary to move forward. ”
“   However are we supposed to move forward from there? ”
“   I have come bearing grim news today. ”
“   I thought him a villain, but he was not. ”
“   We do not need to have this conversation. ”
“   You may not understand this now, but I am doing this for your own good. ”
“   You will be better off without me. ”
“   I cannot fight forever. ”
“   I merely showed him what he was capable of all along. ”
“   You still managed to put on quite a performance. “
“   What ever could be more honorable besides taking care of one's family? ”
“   You’re angry, but not with me. ”
“   What is this? And more importantly, how did you get it? ”
“   I believe I need a doctor. ”
“   This is preposterous and fantastical. ”
“   I want you there by my side. ”
“   For someone who hates ballgowns… you look exquisite in one. ”
“   I am merely glad you came. ”
“   I suppose I should thank you. ”
“   We did not expect to see you here. ”
“   Are you enjoying your evening? ”
“   I did not see it at first, but I know you were only trying to prevent me from heartache. ”
“   I wish to tell you something. ”
“   It was actually you who inspired me. ”
“   Oh, um… What was it you wished to say? ”
“   I need you to take me somewhere. ”
“   My imagination was the furthest I could allow myself to go. ”
“   I am looking out for myself. ”
“   What I know is that you are lost, and I cannot allow you to set me adrift as well. ”
“   It is a choice, dearest, one that is never too late to make. ”
“   I cannot tell you how much peace and comfort that brings to me. ”
“   There is nothing you cannot do. ”
“   I know that this is not what you had envisioned for the evening. ”
“   Just because something is not perfect does not make it any less worthy of love. ”
“   He made you believe that you needed to be without fault in order to be loved, but he was wrong. ”
“   I am tired of pretending. ”
“   I cannot continue acting as if I… as if I do not love you. ”
“   I love all of you, even the parts that you believe are too dark and too shameful. ”
“   You may think you are too damaged and too broken to ever allow yourself to be happy, but you can choose differently. You can choose to love me as much as I love you. ”
“   I do not want to be alone. ”

Despite his denial of hate, Elena could tell that Tristan harboured ill feelings towards the feared monster of her nightmares. Why keep a track otherwise, why even find her otherwise? Still, he seemed to believe in his own conviction, his own accepted delusion that he didn’t hate Klaus. She, however, did. She frowned at his words, about the information he seemed to have.
Wondering why he wanted to share it.
“Well, I do hate Klaus, you’re right about that. And I’d like to hear this information.”
She shifted in place as he spoke into the night, the air around him shifting, as though a showman was speaking to a captivated audience. And she was, eventually, captivated in his words. His news that made her heart race.
Klaus had failed in making more hybrids. Which meant he would come back. He would come back and find out her lie, find out the deception they had used to fool him.
Perhaps he’d kill her.
Or, she thought as her fingers curled into her palm, he’d do to her what he did to Katherine.
He’d kill everyone else first.
However, her attention was drawn back to Tristan, the implication in his words unexpected.
“Are you saying that because Klaus needed my blood to become a hybrid, he’ll need my blood to make more of them?”
She pictured that, a life of being tied to Klaus. Being a constant supply of blood. Or sacrifice. His anger, paranoia. The ways in which he could turn her into his blood bag. Like one of the girls Damon kept around. Half drained off blood. Out of control of their senses.
She was brought out her thoughts because of his next words, frowning as she tried to grasp his implication. His was good, almost too good, like the one Elijah had made that very first night. He knew, she thought, that she’d do anything to spare the people she loved. Even if he hadn’t found her in the cemetery.
So she was surprised when he told her about the strings.
She crossed her arms over her chest, as if warding off the chill, and stepped closer to him. Her mind was whirling in different directions, but she needed to stay focused.
“So you’ll help me convince Klaus, the world, that I’m dead? And you think I should just trust that you can do such a thing? And if I did, what happens to the people I love? Klaus will come back, one way or the other, and if I’m not here, he’ll lash out and kill everyone. He’s a beast, remember?”
She steeled herself then, swallowing roughly as she considered her next words. “What’s the price?”

Elena smirked at Kol’s choice of words, at the way he seemed adept at planning. “Well, that’ll certainly be fun. I’m sure Stefan and Damon will track every ‘animal attack’. We could always just lead them on a false trail,” she said with a small glimmer of excitement. Her head tilted to the side as she looked up at Kol, “well, at least you could. All you have to do is compel someone to leave a trail like ours. Go in the opposite direction as us.”
It was easy, she realised, to group them together now. As long as they stayed together, she was sure she’d be safe. The last thing she wanted was the cure shoved down her throat. Especially when she was just beginning to learn about vampirism.
“As long as we’re leaving, we might as well go somewhere fun. Maybe Vegas or LA or something. I’m sure you’re yet to discover this century. And I’m yet to discover the world.” She slipped her arm through his proffered arm, tightening her grip on it, “let’s go.”

The rest of the journey was relatively quiet once they got in a car. She examined her nails most of the time, thinking back to some of the worst moments in her life. She waited for it, the familiar pain, the constant agony she lived in, however, she was no longer slammed by any of it.
She was no longer trapped by any of it.
At some point, she turned toads Kol, watching him as though she was watching him through glass.
“Turning off my emotions might be the best thing I’ve done yet.”

Elena spent some time rummaging through the room, that she assumed belonged to Kol, finding many grimoires and objects that she didn’t dare touch. It seemed turning off her humanity didn’t burn her survival instinct, instead, for the first time in years, she actually cared about her own survival.
Not about anything else though.
She also liked the way Kol had looked at her, without any disapproval or judgement in his eyes. She landed on the soft bed a while later, cataloging the way it smelt as she heard Kol move around downstairs, preparing for them to leave.
She couldn’t help but focus on him when he climbed the stairs, frozen in the bed as he stared at her.
“I am comfortable,” she said lightly as she looked up at him from her place in his bed, “you have good, and expensive, taste in clothes; and they feel soft.” As if that could explain why she was lounging in his bed, she thought, but found she didn’t care much about his reaction.
Still, she got off the bed, walking towards him, “I’m guessing everything is done, right? All we have to do is leave?” Her question was light, but even she couldn’t deny the hint of anxiety in it. The moment her friends found out what she had done, Bonnie would likely lock her up in the Salvatore basement. Stefan and Damon would torture her, telling her this was best for her. And Caroline would blame her for Matt’s death. Caroline with her perfect control couldn’t understand the way Elena had lost hers.
“Let’s go. I’ve spent eighteen years in this small town, I wanna see a real city. Preferably before someone comes here and starts preaching to me about morality. It gets boring after a while and I don’t want to be bored. I’m guessing you feel the same,” while she’d tried to be casual, she knew her fear had bled through her voice.
