One reason why the leap of faith scene from into the spiderverse works so well is because of the feelings miles goes through. Most superhero origin films has the hero get their powers, figure them out, get a cool costume, and then they have the final battle. And spiderverse does that but the difference is that miles doubts himself. Like after going through: i don’t wanna be spiderman to i can be spiderman I’m ready to maybe I’m not good enough to be spiderman to i am spiderman. He’s constantly struggling because how can you be a good spiderman when there are so many others out there lile you who does it better? But then his dad comes in and tells miles that “hey i believe in you and i will support you no matter what” like he needed that push to move forward. And the build up to that one scene feels so earned he’s finally accepted who he is and what he can do. And the comic book falling is just the icing on the already delicious cake.

““Don’t you understand?” she asks, “I can’t stay. I can’t build a life with you because the closer I get to you, the less I realize I know. When I ask myself about our future, I realize you’ve been plotting your escape. I love you more than love, but I can’t wake up one day and see my identity dissipate with any semblance of truth you’ve put up in front of me.””

If you want to “shock your audience” maybe you should just try writing a good story.

Muslim Representation!
Can we please have one good show, that represents Muslims properly?!
Like all I ask is one show, and it doesn’t even have to be one of those crime fighting shows or horror or any specific genre really... a Comedy Central is what I think would be best.
Just a random comedy show like friends or HIMYM or the new one with Nina dobrev in it. And I’m not even asking for an all Muslim cast cause I know that’s too big to expect. Just one character man!
A Muslim character who spends their day in hijab and then comes home to just toss it on the couch. A Muslim character who loves pizza and nachos. Who binge watches GoT. Who is a big geek. Or a sidekick to the main character. Who is sarcastic and hilarious and is treated like every other character in the show. Some scene where her friends gone through a breakup and she says it’s time to pull out the guns and comes in with a hairdryer and makeup and tell her “gurl, we’re going to party!”. A character who is sensitive and sweet andsmart and loyal and human tbh. Who loves cats and doesn’t drink and has to always be the driver when the others are drunk off their asses. A character who is all about empowerment and has an awesome job. Who leaves the scene randomly cause she gotta go pray, and maybe at some point introduced a brother who is equally hilarious and maybe a little protective.
But I also want the show to display the problems said character faces on a daily basis. The regular catcalls which are mostly threats, the discrimination, the side eyes she gets. The way she has to struggle for simple things sometimes, the extra cautious and unnecessarily airport checks she has to go through. The islamophobia on the streets.
Just for once, some proper representation please!
