Interesting to see that this person assigns such a specific role to betas. I wonder what the implications would be if an Alpha were to do the same job? How thoroughly would the fic be reviewed? What would an Omega’s review look like? Would the OP’s claimed roles of protect and nurture come up as relevant topics?
Completely satirical, of course.

Someone informed me that my ask box was closed but that problem should be resolved now!
Haven’t been super active the last couple weeks and feeling weirdly bad about it. This blog is brand new and so niche but still. Inactivity is the Niche Blog Killer.
Anyway drop me an ask about me, my blog or Omegaverse-related topics, let’s chit-chat!

This post is funny. This is also a great starting point for a discussion on slick and in Omegaverse.
For the sake of ease, we’ll be taking a strictly binary approach here.
Traditionally, slick refers to a natural lubricant to allow for easier mating. Even non-omegaverse stories use this concept to refer to natural lubricant produced by the Female body.
Within the context of most common tropes in Omegaverse, slick is produced by individuals who are in the ‘CAN get pregnant’ category, but more often than not refers to natural lubricant produced by Omega Males, though I think having a strict reference to that gender designation is very restrictive, and anyone in the CAN category should produce slick.
Interesting things to explore here.
In IRL Females, slick is produced by Bartholin’s glands located on either side of the vaginal opening.
While some Omegaverse stories take an approach to Omegaverse that interprets Omega Males as intersex, and therefore have a vaginal opening that may have these glands, this makes it interesting to consider whether or not Alpha Females who can get other people pregnant have these glands!
Another topic to bring up is ‘slick-sickness,’ occasionally brought up in fics where Heat plays a major role in an Omega’s life, commonly used to refer to an Omega being in physical pain or otherwise in distress from the lack of a mate during their Heat. As far as I have seen, slick as a substance does not often directly play a role in this condition.
(Note: Perhaps I have not dug deeply enough. I’m not an enjoyer of ONLY omegaverse, and don’t typically explore outside of the fandoms I’m in at one time. If you’d like to send me recommendations for specific worldbuilding aspects though, i’d be delighted to take a look!)
Another aspect of slick worth mentioning is that frequently, it has a taste. Traditionally, each Omega tastes different.
Discussion Questions:
What are the biological implications of an individual that produces slick WITHIN the context of the world? Is it related and only related to sexual arousal? What role do hormones and cycles play?
What causes Omega Males to secrete slick?
In an interpretation where Alpha Females do not have a functional reproductive system in place to have children (are situated in the CANNOT get pregnant category) but can get other people pregnant, do they still have a vaginal opening with these glands? What is its function in an Alpha Female with these characteristics?
In an interpretation where Alpha Females have a vaginal opening with these glands, are there implications for their ability to produce slick? If they can, how does it compare to Omega Females, Beta Females, and Omega Males with similar biological structures?
How do Heat and Rut affect the ability of people who can produce slick to do so? To what extent? Does slick play a role in ‘slick-sickness?’ How so? If it plays a role, what role does having a mate play to relieve the condition? Is it different between designations of people who produce slick? Is it unique to Omegas?
Are there variations of an Omega’s taste based on their slick related to their heat and/or menstrual cycle? Is it different between the ‘tasters?’ Does slick have a unique effect on Alphas? If it does, and an interpretation says that Female Alphas produce slick, what does that relationship look like with their own slick?
Are there social or societal implications of slick at play? Are there traditional opinions on maintenance or social practices that vary across cultures, like ways to balance your body’s PH to affect the taste of one’s slick? Are there ways to manage producing too much slick or not enough slick? Can someone who normally does not produce slick (like a traditional Beta Male or Alpha Male) make some kind of hormonal or physical change to do so? Are there social consequences based on someone’s relationship with slick?
A lot of different aspects to explore here! Feel free to reblog or reply with your own thoughts and comments or send me an ask! I’m very interested to know what people’s interpretations are, and do not believe any one way is More Correct or Accurate than another. You’re also welcome to ask about my own thoughts on these questions in my own ideas. These types of posts on this blog are meant to invite discussion!

In real life, the last time someone told me “I’m an alpha” all I did was laugh in their face but maybe I should start asking them more questions.
“Oh how interesting! I’m so glad we’re talking, I have some question regarding the topic. Let me get my notes….”
And then launch into questions about rut cycles and misogyny, because of course that’s what I’m interested in

*trying to contain myself*
Hey…. You should check out my blog…
But I’ll elaborate here on the basics!
I’m going to try and keep it as brief as possible for the sake of readability, but in general if you’d like to know more about these subjects, I talk about a lot of tropes I see on this blog.
As a general rule, and I want to make this clear to you and to anyone else who reads my blog, it is my opinion that:
There is no ONE WAY to write omegaverse. Everyone’s interpretation is equally valid as this is a community-founded genre. Some people prefer one way, some prefer another. Whatever you like to read is up to YOUR PREFERENCES alone.
That being said, there are some very basic general rules most Omegaverse fics you encounter will follow, and from there it is up to the author’s own interpretation, explicit or implied worldbuilding, and your own interpretations of the genre for you to synthesize your own ideas about how Omegaverse works.
Let’s get into it!
As a general rule, here are the basics you need to know about Omegaverse, with a note about which ones I am less well versed in in case someone else has better input.
-Gender: Male and Female
Omegaverse frequently operates under a strictly binary lens, because biology is a large part of the discussion surrounding Omegaverse.
(NOTE: I am non-binary IRL. I don’t tend to think about it too hard in Omegaverse, because I do not want to explode.)
-Secondary Gender: Alpha, Beta, Omega
This is where the name comes from. Anyone can be an Alpha, Beta, or Omega regardless of their status as Male or Female. These three designations are typically associated with the ability to inseminate (get someone pregnant) or to become pregnant. I have a pretty good breakdown of this on my blog, look for “breeding scale.”
Alphas get people pregnant.
Omegas can become pregnant.
Betas are typically seen as neutral entities, and most people see them as “normal,” where Male Betas can only get people pregnant, and Female Betas can only become pregnant.
Biology gets finnicky, it often depends on the typical audience in the fandom. Some people like to imagine Female Alphas and Male Omegas as having “both sets of equipment,” for example, and others prefer an interpretation where they are strictly one or the other. What you prefer is up to you.
-pairings (A/A, A/B, A/O, B/O, O/O)
Typically you will only encounter Alpha/Omega pairings. This is because most people like to explore the mating cycles aspect of Omegaverse (more on that later). If you want to see other pairings, you typically have to seek it out. It’s not uncommon, but by far the most content you will see is for Alpha/Omega.
-Heats:
Everyone’s length of time between heats is different. Mostly I see heats interpreted as a monthly cycle similar to Menstruation, and heat is most similar to Ovulation. This is akin to mating cycles in species other than humans, where the body is prepared for pregnancy. If you’re curious about other species, I would recommend doing your own research. Other lengths of time are not uncommon, I also frequently see every 3 months or every 6 months, in some fandoms it is also common to see once a year. This again depends on the fandom and the author.
Whether or not regular menstruation occurs is up to the author’s interpretation. More often than not, Menstruation never comes up in Omegaverse fics, as Heat tends to be a more interesting subject.
It is common to see that heat causes great physical and psychological distress for an Omega, where they can think of nothing but finding a mate and finding relief from the discomfort. This is typically done by the Omega being mated and knotted by an Alpha. (a process related to insemination where a bulb forms at the base of an Alpha’s penis and “ties” the individuals together, rendering them physically unable to separate from one another.)
Worth noting that Alphas have an equivalent to heat called rut, where they are in similar psychological and physical distress and are seeking relief in the form of a mate (typically an Omega) that they can knot.
-scents:
It is very common to see interpretations where an Omega in heat gives off a scent (pheromones) to indicate that they are in heat. You may also commonly see terms like “preheat” thrown around where an Omega begins to give off the pheromones, but they are not yet in distress from the discomfort of heat. These scents trigger a response in Alphas that the Omega wants to mate and primes them to do so. It may even throw the Alpha into a rut, which makes the mating more vigorous as both hormone cycles are happening simultaneously. This allows for a greater chance of successful insemination and the production of offspring.
Hopefully this helps break down some common tropes! Don’t hesitate to comment and ask more questions, I’m more than happy to discuss these topics!
Okay, so I have a friend who loves omegaverse stuff, and I'm clueless, but they're suggesting a lot of fics, and want me to read some of their own stuff too and give feedback.
I'm trying to figure out how this shit works, and I think it varies between writers and stuff, but as a general consensus, is this correct regarding anatomy and biology rules?
Alpha Men: Dick, Asshole - can't get pregnant
Alpha Women: Dick, Cunt, Asshole - can get pregnant
Beta Men: Dick, Asshole - can't get pregnant
Beta Women: Cunt, Asshole - can get pregnant
Omega Men: Dick, Cunt (sometimes), Asshole - can get pregnant
Omega Women: Cunt, Asshole - can get pregnant
And is it only only alpha x omega and beta x beta. or can there be alpha x beta, omega x beta, omega x omega, alpha x alpha? Cause, I've seen both existing in universes, and if anything, not allowing the second ones listed, kinda reminds me of homosexuality lol. Which type is more commonly considered?
Please, I'm lost, and the sex doesn't make sense sometimes. I expect one thing, and I get another.
And more rules of the universe, are heats like periods, every 4 weeks? Or are heats further apart, since they seem to effect omegas a lot worse emotionally than periods do. Like, as a girl, periods suck, but I can be in pain and just chilling with myself in public; apparently omegas on heat give scents that turn alphas and betas around them horny as well? And if everyone is constantly horny cause not all women/omegas have the same cycle wouldn't it constantly be a sex fest? So like, how far apart are heats most times; I've seen a few fics where it's like, twice a year?
And are heats followed by periods later; do all omegas get regular menstrual cycles. Because I've seen Omega guys suffer from heat, but never a menstrual cycle. And how does that work with Alpha females who menstruate, but don't have heats.
Do you get my confusion? Please, someone explain to me.
#omegaverse#discussion post#someone else’s post#cw: knotting#don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like to know more!#I’m happy to give you more information if you’d like specifics#but most of this is what I see when I read Omegaverse stuff

Thank you so much for engaging!!! This sideblog is so new, I was really excited to see that someone was engaging with it. Your thoughts are well organized and easy to follow. I appreciate the time you took to research the topics and respond!
Really really just generally thrilled. Very starry-eyed excited flailing happening IRL.
Disclaimer: I touch on intersex terms in response to one of these questions. I do not talk about these terms with zero knowledge of what they mean, but I am not intersex and am in no way an expert on this subject, so if my language is outdated/incorrect/offensive I deeply apologize, I do not mean to be, and if you are able to gently correct me I will not make the same mistake again. I am open to learning more, especially because I expect intersex identities to be a semi-frequent discussion topic on this blog.
THAT BEING SAID, let’s get into it!
-your evolutionary tree
The information here is really fascinating to me! I have some familiarity with genetics and human evolution (i’ve done a bit of biological anthropology work) so your passion in your original post was what compelled me to be so curious in the first place. Having a different eukaryote as the founder of life for land mammals is incredibly interesting. It honestly just makes me wonder more about what other land animals would look like besides primates!
I wonder if the additional sexes introduced by tetrahymena thermophilia would cause there to be distinct advantages to hormones that can be detected, allowing for a greater chance of success when it comes to mating. Stronger hormones = greater appeal = more offspring. Or something like that. (NOTE: And estrus has always made more sense to me than whatever humans have going on. Big ‘ol waste of energy and bodily resources if you ask me.)
-puberty
I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to hear that your opinion has changed on this! I was consulting with someone else about this and was thinking about Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, a current branch of the intersex umbrella that adapts secondary sex characteristics that we see as Female but their internal sex organs (please forgive me if this is not the correct way to describe this! As I stated in the disclaimer, I am in no way an expert.) are traditionally Male. I wonder if This combined with some differences based on the differences in evolution could establish this sort of development as the regular development associated with Alpha Females, where the secondary sex characteristics and mature gametes would develop together.
Cloacal Omega Males is a topic I am much less well-versed on but I believe your explanation also makes sense. IRL we know disturbingly little about the Female body so a lack of knowledge on this subject would also make sense.
Perhaps a world exists where DNA testing would be more available so that unfortunate and embarrassing situations could be avoided, but the fact alone that this line of evolutionary evidence is so compelling is very satisfying and exciting to me. Lots of potential in social worldbuilding here! Perhaps DNA testing is expensive, and if we align this universe with what is described in your footnote, since compatibility has a higher rate anyway, it could be seen as a “waste of time” unless a family had a predisposition for Female Omegas or Male Alphas.
-A note on seasonal wombs
I fully believe you here. I read one fic a while back that used this concept where the womb developed in Male Omegas on a yearly cycle and deteriorated if pregnancy did not occur and I thought the idea may be interesting to elaborate on in discussion. It hold little evolutionary merit, but was interesting to me for the social implications.
-menstruation and estrus
This makes sense to me! (Lucky bastards.)
-Variations between females and omegas
This note was primarily for myself as a point to bring up in a longer discussion on the subject. Traditionally, Female Alphas can inseminate in Omegaverse, but it is not content I tend to engage too terribly much in. Your explanation makes sense and I agree that simply giving a female character aggressive alpha traits is wildly off-putting. Co-occurring traits would be interesting to be though! I believe it leans into the idea discussed in your footnote as well, and I think something similar being true for Male Omegas also makes sense within these rules, though I’m not entirely familiar with those kinds of traits.
-insemination
I did mean knotting here, yes! But specifically, I’m interested in what it is like for Female Alphas with a vulva. Based on previous discussion it seems pretty self-explanatory to have enlarged parts that have greater development during ejaculation, but the idea of it is intriguing in my brain.
The Omega clamp response is also a concept I find incredibly interesting. It’s a trope I have noticed has been on the rise in recent years in fic and I like it a lot! I think socially it has a lot of implications for the language that may be used in-universe regarding pleasure and consent and satisfaction during sex.
Thank you so so much for engaging in this with me! If you have any responses to my current notes I welcome it, I’m genuinely delighted to have your engagement. I notes that Tumblr content warned this post and now I’m mildly concerned about getting this account suspended, but meh, we’ll see what happens. I also welcome anyone else’s input or ideas on this post! If you’re following along, I’d love to hear from you!
reading omegaverse reminds how TERRIBLE biology education is everywhere. what do you MEAN these are 'secondary genders' that present later in life. you can't just grow a womb. or eggs!! eggs are there from the start bitch!

Secondary gender presentation is a topic I want to have in a weekly discussion post. I think that it’s not discussed very frequently in most fics (no shame here, I love a ‘presented as an omega at exactly the wrong time’ fic as much as the next person) but because this aspect is so under-discussed I think it will be worthwhile to do a deeper dive into.
I noticed in the tags the OP here talks about biology and gametes, a fascinating topic to explore in Omegaverse. Genetics is an incredibly wide topic and Omegaverse may have a lot of interesting potential to explore it! I would also from a creative perspective, invite OP to reach out regarding this subject so we can have a discussion about their thoughts!
What does a world look like to you that is compatible with the current synthesized theory of evolution where Omegaverse is the outcome? How would it differ from traditional perspectives on Omegaverse? In general, How would YOU do it?
Worth noting that any posts I do make are likely to be less about a “evolution-compliant” approach and more questions regarding how to make evolution work FOR Omegaverse.
Leaving myself some notes, and perhaps for other people reading, if you want to ask questions about this subject, I’d love to discuss with you!
-In puberty vs from birth
-“seasonal” wombs in prior fics
-frequency of heats/rut
-menstrual cycle as it relates to heat
-variations between Omegas and Females
-Insemination process from Alphas

Omegaverse does have a lot of sex-positive stuff, which I think is part of the draw for a lot of audience members that enjoy it.
This interpretation implies that Mark from HR is an Omega, and heat, or perhaps specifically Mark’s heat, lasts for one week.
It’s interesting to think about the social and societal aspects of how hormone cycles are managed. I’ve read one interpretation where Heat and Rut are a seasonal and once a year event that is honored on a nationwide scale as a period of rest time.
It also raises questions about other interpretations of Omegaverse that may be less sex-positive, approaching the idea of having sex during heat similarly to how we currently imagine sex at different points of a standard menstrual cycle. Socially, is sex okay at any time? Are there ‘purists’ who believe that Omegas should only have sex during heat? If a regular menstrual cycle happens for Females along with a heat cycle, are those expectations different for Purists? What is the broader opinion?
It’s also interesting to imagine what this interpretation thinks of how fertility relates to heat cycle. Does heat have a direct effect on Mark’s fertility cycle? Different interpretations of Omegaverse say that Omegas regardless of associated gender can become pregnant at any time, and others say that it is only during heat when Male Omegas can become pregnant. Does the same hold true for other Omegas?
In the context of this interpretation, is Mark from HR now pregnant, or are other factors at play, like whether or not his heat partner was an Alpha or a Beta? What’s the success rate of insemination between Betas and Alphas? Is it different between Male Alphas and Female Alphas?
This is more breakdown than I intended for this post as it’s not the weekly discussion post but rules are arbitrary anyway.
dude omegaverse AUs are lowkey insanely sex positive because 90% of everything revolves around sex and everyone is completely fine with it like imagine taking a week off work to get railed to hell and back and your coworkers being 100% okay with it there's no gossip or drama or anything just mark from HR getting his guts rearranged nonstop tuesday through saturday and coming back to work on monday with a fresh bitemark on his neck and meeting his colleagues for lunch like nothing happened what a LIFE

An interesting read. I wonder if this has other implications or benefits for broader society in this interpretation, if perhaps Alpha Females have a higher population because they have this genetically based trait. If they do have a higher population, I wonder what that means for other, non-Alpha Females socially. Maybe this even has implications for Alpha Males and the way they’re treated socially as they don’t share this trait! Or perhaps they do in this interpretation, and biology is even more funky!
Okay so I’ve been thinking about Omegaverse biology and how alpha females have internal testes which would mean that their sperm is being subjected to constant heat damage which necessities that there is some physiological mechanism to prevent that from happening. Enter: the hot testicle hypothesis! Large mammals with internal testes like elephants have ramped up their DNA repair systems to compensate for their sperm being constantly damaged by their body heat. As a result, they have exceptionally lower rates of cancer overall bc of the whole DNA repair thing. Anyway this is a long winded way of saying that in Omegaverse, alpha females probably have lower rates of cancer.
I need u to know I would 100% have included hot testicle hypothesis in my last video if you had told me this last week
#omegaverse#genetics#someone else’s post#some cool ideas here#i love seeing what people do with alpha females in Omegaverse cause I don’t read much content with them

Let’s talk about the breeding scale.
I have my own opinions about how the scale would work in a world that I’d make personally, but I want to think about this from an unbiased lens and look at the different ways different versions of the scale might affect an omegaverse-based society.
So let’s say that ‘traditionally,’ the scale works like this. I’m approaching this strictly from a binary lens (Besides Betas) because getting more complex than that should be its own post.
Gender designations that CAN get pregnant:
- Omega Female
- Beta Female
Gender designations that CANNOT get pregnant:
- Beta Male
- Alpha Male
Notably missing from this list are ‘Alpha Female,’ and ‘Omega Male’ because that’s the topic I want to tackle here.
Obviously, this is the foundation omegaverse is built on.
Typically, Alpha Female is lumped in with the ‘CANNOT’ crowd, and Omega Male with the ‘CAN’ crowd.
Omegaverse stories and related posts frequently explore the biological differences between the bodies of these two designations and IRL bodies, prompting some questions:
What is biologically different between an Alpha Female and an IRL Female?
For example: Does a functional uterus exist in a Female Alpha, implying that they can become pregnant? Do Female Alphas experience a menstrual cycle? How is it different than an IRL menstrual cycle? Do they experience a rut that Male Alphas traditionally experience in Omegaverse? If they experience both, what is that process like? Can they impregnate someone in the CAN group? What does that process look like? What biological systems are in place to allow them to do that, and how is it different from an IRL Female?
Similarly, what is biologically different between an Omega Male and an IRL Male? And in that list of earlier questions, what are the corresponding things regarding traditionally Male anatomy?
These types of questions are explored in a lot of fics, and I’m always interested to see the diversity of responses to them and what they mean in the context of an individual fic. It says a lot about the creativity of an author to break “traditional rules” or in general to explore ideas that exist outside of a mirror structure to our current society.
For example:
Authors who explore intersex identities among both Alpha Females and Omega Males, placing them in a BOTH category outside of the CAN and CANNOT groups.
What I am ALSO, perhaps even MORE interested in is
What are the sociological differences of a world where Alpha Females are part of the CANNOT crowd, and the Omega Males are part of the CAN crowd?
For example, does the designation of Alpha and Omega attach itself to a social hierarchy? If so, is it a patriarchal structure where Alphas are given more power? What about a matriarchal structure where Omegas are given more power? Are there population differences that make certain combinations of gender and secondary gender minorities? What do different arrangements of those minorities imply for a broader societal structure? Are there perhaps alternate terms given to a population that breeds mostly one designation or another like “Alpha-centric” as a term for a society structure where Alphas hold the most social power? Overall, what is the relationship between Secondary gender and Power?
These types of dynamics I find particularly interesting and are some additional questions I’d like to explore more of on this blog.
