Man, there should be more art pieces like Fantasia (1940) and Fantasia 2000 made. Just throw a wad of money and a handful of beautiful music to one of the great modern 2d animation studios like Flying Bark, and let them go wild and beautiful

In the spirit of honesty though, i do the same thing. I ignore/smooth over the parts of characterizations that i don't like or that I'm uncomfortable with
#i never last long as a hater#I'm too fair-minded 😩#That's the problem with trying to engage with the crumbs of depth in a comedy show#trying to parse what elements are part of complex characterization#and what parts are characterization being subservient to the comedy#What things to take seriously or not#and i have my own tastes and a flaw of mine is making young characters act more mature than is sometimes reasonable#both as a reflection of what i was like as a teenager#and as discomfort with characters being annoying lol#smoothing things into always being perfect no mistakes or being obnoxious#which isn't reasonable to expect from a person or a character#I'm fighting with this so much and I'm tired#it should be ok for me to like what i like and do what i want#but i feel guilty for not liking some things#and i feel obligated to always be fair and realistic#there can't be nuance in my enjoyment of something! everything's always black or white! all or nothing!#that's enough exposure for the night#i just felt the need to caveat my previous post in order to be fair and honest#because as much as I'd like to be#I'm not better at enjoying a show than other people are and puffing myself up for being “smarter” isn't helpful#even if i think they're dumb

Fun typa thing where you see some fanart/fancomic and it's reasonably funny but then there's a comment of "wow this is so in character!" and it's like, is it though?
#being a hater tonight#maybe it's in character with the flat fandom charcterization that's a carbon copy of every other jokester character#but like#where is the fandom getting these ideas that they keep perpetuating#it's barely an interpretation of the canon character and it's more like#they think he should be/do these things because other characters who share a few characteristics do those things#instead of engaging with the characters as they're shown?#it's like there's only a handful of acceptable characters to fandom and any characters from any show that don't easily fit into those boxes#get shoved in there anyway#cutting out whatever's different about them making them flat and all the same#the upside is that this irritation is fueling my desire to create the art that i want to see#but i wish i could filter out all of the bland irritating fandom stuff and just get the good stuff#positive inspiration more like lol
