urban fantasy is at its very best when its about a man who is Just Some Guy TM who gets dragged into supernatural shenanigans beyond his control.  like listen buddy this guy works at burger king or some shit, this is way beyond his paygrade and he does not want to be here At All.  his biggest strength is his midwesterner “don’t ask don’t tell” attitude about the supernatural.  he wants absolutely nothing to do with being a hero, fuck it, he just wants to be normal but instead he’s fighting cthulu in a walmart parking lot.

i think it's important you all know my literature teacher did well and truly write "homoerotic desire" as a theme for Victor Frankenstein up on the whiteboard today... this dude was so gay it's getting mentioned in a Catholic school 200 years later.
