this was originally gonna be the thumbnail for an animatic I'm working on, but I realized that this thumbnail would be a spoiler so I couldn't use it. consider this an announcement :) I'm about 30% of the way complete right now. the ACTUAL thumbnail will drop when I have a solid release date for the animatic

I...said when I made the post to my main that I wasn't going to do this but I clearly don't know myself that well. More info on the story below the cut!

It isn't always strictly pills of immortality. Sometimes it’s an elixir instead. The rabbit on the moon pounding something is part of both Japanese and Chinese folklore, but in Japanese folklore it's pounding mochi, whereas in Chinese it's a mortar and pestle. So in the version where the method to gain immortality is through pills, the mortar and pestle contain the ingredients to remake the pills of immortality. As for the "love or selfishness" bit, what's being alluded to is the varying reasons Chang'e becomes immortal. The version that's about love is one in which to prevent people from stealing it, she takes the entire dosage (meant to be split in two). "Selfishness" is her taking the pills because she wanted to. Sometimes that's because they only gave Houyi one dosage; sometimes it’s because Chang'e and Houyi were gods before and Chang'e wished to get her status back. It's a complicated story -- I believe the version I learned in my Chinese classes is slightly different from the version I have retold in a book written in English, though it's been many years since then. I think it's interesting how many interpretations are available for Chang'e's actions; maybe she became immortal because she missed the heavens and wanted to go home, maybe she saw there was only one dose and wanted to have it more, or maybe she took it because someone else threatened to.

And if you're wondering what happened to Houyi afterwards...he tries to shoot a message up to the moon, but he fails every time to reach her.

I picked ZTD!Akane to replicate because I thought it was the most fitting. I still haven't started it yet, but it’s also the last time she saw Junpei before the beginning of VLR, so...I think that the projection makes sense. Also white is traditionally the color of mourning :)

As for the caption...what I'm specifically alluding to is Yuelao, who in Chinese folklore is responsible for connecting the red string of fate. I think you can see the ways in which that could correspond to Sigma as Zero.

cradle is replaced by labrelum.

ace = arthur; ninth man = newton

snake & clover = phoenix & maya

santa = clive

seven = chelmey

lotus = sophia; her underestimation comes from her being really old rather than how she dresses

bill is musashidou and eve belduke is nijisaki. Arthur doesn't have face blindness so even tho the body isn't Phoenix, Maya is still on-edge, since she was wearing Phoenix's bracelet and the conclusion is still Phoenix is dead because the bracelet would only be off if he's dead

this AU technically includes VLR but I don't know who Phi should be and I don't want to draw any conclusions about that until I play ZTD. I have a feeling that will help

but here's the casting for vlr anyways. recurring characters retain their roles
