This comment in particular infuriated her.  Her Father had been a General, a great leader, and he had shown her all he knew about being one.  "I know what comes along with being a leader, don't dare ever throw that into question," she snarled at him, eyes ablaze.  "Caius and I met when we were both nomads, and we remained that way for many years before the formation of the Volturi.  We were very happy, we were equals, everything we did we did together, as partners.  Not as one locked away, and the other consumed by work..."

Athenodora fought to keep herself standing upright, but the ache seeping at a rapid pace into her limbs eventually overpowered her, and knocked her to her knees.  Her eyes were forced shut by the pounding in her head, and Athena greatly wished, in that moment, that vampires could lose consciousness without the aid of death or a special gift.  Speaking of death, why hadn't Vladimir pounced on her like a predatory lion? What kind of game was he playing?

This thought propelled her to gather enough strength to raise herself up, still on her knees, but shoulders back and straight, and head as high as she could lift it.  "What's the matter, Vladimir?" she questioned him, voice tight with pain, but taunting all the same.

Her pain seemed to be growing worse by the minute. All Vladimir would have to do is lay a single finger on her and she’d topple over. He smirked at her misery. Nothing made him happier than a suffering Volturi. Vladimir wasn’t planning to attack, Athenodora was already hurting enough. He’d much rather just watch.

Athenodora gritted her teeth against the pain, and the implication in his tone.  It was all she could do to stop herself from fleeing right then and there, but she refused to become a coward.  Besides, chances were high that he would easily be able to catch her, so really, what was the point? No, Athenodora was prepared to stand her ground, even if it meant certain death.  And it very well might.

Her head started to feel heavy, but she managed to hold it upright, while her body slumped a little more against the tree.  Damn Corin, damn Caius, she thought, a low growl rumbling in her throat.  She looked at Vladimir. 

Vladimir smirked as her weakness showed through. It was quite apparent in her gesture alone, but her eyes did nothing but prove so. Taking her down would take little effort. He had prepared for and went to battle the Volturi multiple times, Vladimir was one of the best immortals in a fight. Athenodora on the other hand was locked in a tower for centuries. Not only was she unprepared but now she was also in a bit of pain. She could be ended in mere seconds if it was what Vladimir really wanted. “I am just fine here, but, it is a bit crowded isn’t it?"

His anger spurred hers on.  "You haven't know your son for the past three thousand years, you haven't known him since he was 10!" A deep, guttural growl formed in her throat, and her hands shook with fury.  "No, I will not behave, the last thousand years of my life have been spent behaving as others wished me to, and not by choice, mind you.  Not at all.  We have a vampire, in our guard, that can make you feel content, despite your true feelings.  Caius made her use her gift on me, so until recently I've passed through life in a blissful, compliant daze, not allowed to experience my true emotions."

"Where he learned that from?" Archelius stepped closer to the woman growling. “Don’t judge me and don’t judge my son! Unless you want to lose your head I suggest you behave!" Still growling he narrowed his eyes. He had a very hard time believing that Caius would force something on the woman he loved. He should know better than that. He should know a lot better than that. Archelius had always believed that the woman made the man. Igraine had changed him a lot, she made him into a better man. The one thing he had never done was treat a woman badly which Athenodora was implying.

"I suggest you do the same," she replied darkly.  One of her hands came to rest on the tree closest to her, and she leaned some of her weight against it as another paralyzing headache hit her.  Her eyes never left Vladimir's, red piercing red.  She was determined not to let him see her be weak, but some pain managed to slip through her mask of resentment.

"Do not flatter yourself, Athenodora. I would not want you to get your hands dirty," Vladimir narrowed his eyes at her. “I highly suggest that you head back to where you came from."

Very well, my dear husband.  And you? Have the guard been behaving?

Athenodora had been taking refuge on the rooftop of an abandoned building, when the sounds of a fight began close by.  From her position overlooking the alleyway she could see everything, and watched in silence as the vampire and the werewolf fought.  The thought of interfering never occurred to her, she'd had one battle with a werewolf in her lifetime, and though she won that fight, she had no desire to ever tangle with another of those beasts again.  She was pleased to see the vampire be victorious, but then grew concerned when she saw her collapse to the ground. 

Jumping down, Athena approached the vampiress.  "I'm going to help you," she responded soothingly, and kneeling beside her, assessed the woman's numerous wounds.

AU Volturi Wives

Selene was always a very proud warrior and one of the best death dealers around. Stubborn, un emotional and persistent , the perfect soldier against the war with the werewolves. 

She was chasing this particular werewolf for over a week. She was tired and hungry but still carried on running after them. She cornered him near a stone alleyway and the fight began. He was strong and almost got the better out of her but with a couple of shots later the beast was dead.

Selene was greatly injured and she could feel her end coming near. “At least I wll die with honor" she thought. She was losing her senses when suddenly she heard footsteps. With a weak voice she asked “whos there?"
