"Yield!" She shoved his head down, held it under, pulled it up. "Yield!" Jaime spit water into her face. A shove, a splash, and he was under again, kicking uselessly, fighting to breathe. Up again. "Yield, or I'll drown you!"

i didnt want to engage in this conversation again bc i said my piece before, be it my own navigation of the intention and how he communicates that intention (and my issues lol), my more personal and possibly more jaime critical dota esque read ig based on how i read what is on page, my frustration with giving credit to authors where it is not due and not actually identifying and dealing with extra-diegetic issues as what they actually are which i think is very unproductive, and not to mention that i also just find it very difficult to give a shit about these discussions if they are clouded by the baggage of the usual fandom agenda wars, but a core aspect of this conversation to me still is that like… u can kill the author all u want but keep in mind that he is still the one writing this text. that piece u add is not in his mind and was not his intention, so it is not in the text for him. this is a fact that u will have to confront and reckon with bc i think it is and will continue to be relevant when it comes to the rest of ur reading of the text and the story arcs and characterization and dynamics present in it

Things you may have forgotten about Arya Stark
She has PTSD
She was a slave
And threatened with rape multiple times
Also beaten bloody
She used to play with lowborn kids in Winterfell
And talk with the smallfolk
And people loved her
She likes flowers
She is a polyglot
She knows a lot about poison
Because she had to taste it till her stomach hurt
She is too caring for her own good
She gave water do dying people
She dgaf about social status
She has low self-esteem
So much that she thought her family wouldn’t want her back
She is good at math
Also history
She is an extrovert
She makes friends with anybody
She has a strong pack sense
She’s an incredible warg and she doesn’t even know it
She’s good at climbing
She is an amazing rider
She never totally forgets who she is
No matter how many names she takes
The old gods are casually giving her pep talks
She isn’t a psychopath
She was a war prisoner
Also a child soldier
She can cook
She has a strong sense of justice
JUSTICE
She could pretend she is a singing goat and you’d believe her, that’s how good she is at pretending to be things she is not
She cares about people who are suffering
She doesn’t like killing
She has nightmares about it
She likes songs
She is a girl, she acknowledges it and she is proud of it

"Cold," said Renly in a small puzzled voice, a heartbeat before the steel of his gorget parted like cheesecloth beneath the shadow of a blade that was not there. He had time to make a small thick gasp before the blood came gushing out of his throat.
"Your Gr—no!" cried Brienne the Blue when she saw that evil flow, sounding as scared as any little girl. The king stumbled into her arms, a sheet of blood creeping down the front of his armor, a dark red tide that drowned his green and gold. More candles guttered out. Renly tried to speak, but he was choking on his own blood. His legs collapsed, and only Brienne's strength held him up. She threw back her head and screamed, wordless in her anguish.
The shadow. Something dark and evil had happened here, she knew, something that she could not begin to understand. Renly never cast that shadow. Death came in that door and blew the life out of him as swift as the wind snuffed out his candles.

I think the fandom is seriously underestimating Sansa's self-control at the purple wedding
She smiles, compliments and encourages all those nobles who participated in her suffering, laughing when she was beaten and stripped, or remaining unmoved when she was forcibly married to a man twice her age who also happened to be her jailer and enemy
She compliments Elinor on her gown, same Elinor who threw her away like dirt, she compliments Lancel on his strength, same Lancel who laughed loudly when she was beaten and stripped
She's so good at it that Kevan and Lancel are beaming and even Tyrion (who regularly called Sansa dumb in his thoughts) is amazed by her courtesy and thinks she would have been a great queen

gender essentialism is soooo funny bc it's like "this is what women are like" and you're like "I've met women and many of them, if not the majority, have not been like that" and it's like "well women SHOULD be like that" and you're like "why should women be like that" and its like "because that's what women are like"
