i either see thalia as a carbon copy of beryl(naomie) which i think could be such a fun concept since T tried her hardest to run away from her mother but sees her anytime she looks in a mirror regardless of how much dark makeup she wears or i see beryl as a biracial woman(thandie) who's slightly self hating & tried to push some of that onto thalia while growing up but it obviously didn't work & that led to some of the complications in their relationship

backstory: 80s british star beryl moved to america with her young daughter thalia after the fall of her career and a little while after jupiter comes along or she was a failed american actress from the 80s and moved to england after getting angry at zeus for not staying and then after some years decided to uproot thalia's whole life & move back to america where she was hoping she still was the star she once was(she wasn't) & jupiter came shortly after

In honor of people constantly telling me that I look way younger than I truly am, here's the seven as their ages compared to how old they look.

Annabeth: 17; looks about 20

Percy: 17; looks between 19 and 21

Piper: 16; looks her age.

Frank: 16; he depends. If you only catch a glance at him from the side, you'd assume he's in his early to mid twenties, but the second you get a good look at his face, it's pretty obvious that he's his age, or even he looks slightly younger. About 14 through 17.

Jason: 16; looks about 18

Leo: 16; looks max 12, and he absolutely hates it.

Hazel: (The books say she's 13, but the time line does not add up at all. If she turned 13 in December, died in June, was ressurected in August/September, and it's now June, that's been 15-16 months! Which is greater than 12!!! Sorry, I get really passionate about this); looks around 14 through 16.

Man, what's the probability that I was planning on yapping about how underappreciated Olujime is by the fandom today so I searched for my past yaps about him and turns out I did the exact same thing one year ago today? Huh!

Anyway, back to yapping about Olujime. He literally confirms the existance of pantheons outside of the Greco-Roman, Norse, and Egyptian that Rick's works normally center on in this universe and somehow he only has 7 works on ao3 to his name??? And ZERO include his backstory. Zippo!!! Now, I'm also guilty of this cause one of them is my own fic, but I digress! Man, Rick absolutely GLOSSED over everything to do with Olujime and his backstory, and is just like "Yeah, here's a Yoruba demigod with lightning powers! Let's never bring this up again except for Apollo to be upset that he has a girlfriend", and I'll give it to Rick, Apollo's unrequited crush on Olujime was absolute comedy gold the progression from "Tall, Dark, and Handsome" to "Tall, Dark, and Jamie" absolutely gets me everytime I read The Dark Prophesy, and why we don't talk about that a lot either is absolutely criminal. I guess it's because TOA is completely underrated imo, and many people don't read it for reasons I have yet to comprehend, so yeah. I think people should give TOA a chance so that more people can yap about Olujime and I can get cool new perspectives that I didn't original think of.

On a completely related note, does anyone have any good recommendations for books on Yoruba mythology? It would be appreciated!

Just finished The Dark Prophecy in my reread and boy do I have thoughts. I'd forgotten how much 13 yo me adored The Dark Prophecy when it first came out, and I definitely still adore it. More will come in due time, but my first one is simple:

Why do we not talk Olujime more as a fandom? He's literally the only demigod that's not Greek, Roman, or Norse, is incredibly powerful, and Apollo is helplessly in love with him (though, let's be honest, Apollo is helplessly in love with a lot of people).

Anyway, can we please talk about Olujime more? I know nothing about Yorubu dieties, but I'm 100% going to do some more research when I have time, because it's so interesting?

So, yeah, please bring up Olujime more.

Thinking of which Apollo kids (and suspected Apollo kids and Apollo legacies) can and can't ride a bike because I've been on mine more in the last three days than I have in the last three years.

Let's start with the most obvious one: Jerry can; London is absolutely filled with bike riders, it would be quite surprising if he couldn't to me. He and his mom (mum, sorry) probably spend afternoons before her shows riding around London.

Michael also can. I don't have solid evidence for this one besides the fact that Michael feels like he can ride a bike.

I've never been to Hong Kong, but according to research, bikes are very uncommon there and it's hilly so bikes aren't very easy to use. Therefore, I hc Yan cannot ride a bike. Maybe Yan'll learn at CHB since I've decided that they deserve a ride share.

Austin also cannot ride a bike. He was far too focused growing up on his music to care to learn without training wheels. He did used to ride Oberlin with his training wheels as a little kiddo though, so maybe he'll learn at CHB.

Will can; he had his bike attached to the back of the music van as a kid and would ride around the parking lots of venues Naomi performed at during set up before people started arriving.

I've also never been to Toronto, so I don't know its true bikeability, but Kayla can ride; Darren would take her on bike trails growing up. I feel in my soul he's close to nature.

Gracie can. The town I hc she's from (Sun Valley; for the puns of course) has on it's website it's numerous bike trails for the summer. (It's normally a ski resort town). So, I trust the website.

Lee can. Like Michael, I can't pinpoint why, just that he can.

Octavian cannot. NR does have bikes, and their pretty popular, but Octavian gives the vibe of a kid who would've rathered use a horse-drawn carriage to get to school because it's more Roman than a bike.

Georgina can; she was taught by Leo post-TDP and it isn't an uncommon sight now for her to ask Waystation for a mini bike park.

Hal could, as a kid, but hadn't ridden in like 50 years so I doubt he still could. Besides, being stuck at home kinda hinders your biking ability if you're not at Waystation.

Victoria cannot. Why? I dunno. I know nothing about her besides the fact that she exists, I'm going on a limb here.

Starship was actually so ahead of its time

It is genuinely such an impressive theatre production when you consider that this was the first show Starkid put on independently of the resources they had at The University of Michigan. It was funded entirely out of their own money with no kickstarter campaign and had so many technical intricacies with the puppets. Not to mention that Joey was still finishing his degree while playing the lead and had to keep travelling between Michigan and Chicago in order to do the show. And Darren had just been signed on to Glee and was unable to write the amount of songs he had planned to.

Starship was the show which solidified Starkid as a professional theatre company. It was a major turning point and set the bar for all of their future work.

It’s a shame that Starship Requiem never got a full production. The Starship universe deserved to be explored more

So, two of my brothers and I rewatched Spaceballs today, and I just know that Will and Cecil cosplay Spaceball characters together because obviously they both adore it; so here's combination of Spaceball characters they've cosplayed as together:

Lone Starr (Will) & Barf (Cecil) — Their go to, a classic. They do their handshake all the time.

Dark Helmet (Cecil) & Col. Sandurz (Will) — Sometimes Lou Ellen joins dressed as Skroob, but she'd not as into Spaceballs as Will and Cecil.

Princess Vespa (Cecil) & Dot (Will) — Cecil's idea: he wanted to wear a wedding dress. Will is *very* annoying about the Virgin Alarm while in Dot cosplay.

2 of the Assholes — Lou Ellen also goes as an Asshole on occassion.

So I finally was able to get the kindle exclusive Rick Riordan books (Singer of Apollo and the interactive Demigod adventure) and golly do I have thoughts! This is gonna be exclusively the demigod adventure rant because Singer of Apollo thoughts will probably make their way into TFMMWTMP at some point, so I'll wait until I write that up to yap. This will have spoilers for things like locations and such that everyone goes to, but since the story is a choose your own, I won't go into the choices. However, big spoiler for the last part of the quest with the pithos (if you know you know)

Okay, so firstly, I saw Austin, Texas, my brain said William Andrew Solace. I swear I'm not obsessed. But, I might have to write like a little Will eating a Xenia at some point.

Next, Hades in New Orleans. My first thought, as expected is HAZEL LEVESQUE! Like, what connection was I supposed to make at first? But after I continued reading I remembered that in Sword of Hades, Nico was in a cemetary at New Orleans before Persephone called him over. Was he dealing with Mormo and then got side tracked by the wars that Zane and Sam ended up finishing it off? Because the story takes place, according to Sam, during the war with Gaea, which would make sense for time line wise. Though, why Hades doesn't mention his son when mentioning the 5 zombie-fied demigods, I'm not sure, but it makes so much sense! Nico's always running errands for Hades, and after Sword of Hades he stays in the Underworld and after that he does the whole Camp Jupiter thing and then he has his own pithos problem. I've seen the Anubis/cross panethon chat theory, which holds validity, but I think thinks makes much more sense! Especially since I can't see why Hades would care too much about cross-pantheon relations during a war.

Also, there can not be a coincidence that Hades and Pluto's known lovers in the 40s are named Maria and Marie, and Marie Laveau was a demigod whom Hades remembered by name. Who was her parent? I'm not sure, my guts saying Melinoë or Hecate because I feel like Hades would have mentioned in the story if she was his own kid, but it can not be a coincidence. (It probably is; or at least Marie Levesque was named after her and he decided after the fact to make Marie Laveau a demigod)
