Xie Lian is like the funniest character you guys. There's a reason he loves all of Hua Cheng's shenanigans and finds the guy hilarious. Guys, he's a judgemental bitch actually. He's been raised to be polite, but he was still a Crown Prince. He has Rich People Thoughts for sure.
He's so snarky, and well, he's been through so much shit, so of course he's snarky. Y'all remember the long-ass rant he went on about all of Mu Qing's bad characteristics? It was like 56 pages long, and he said it all in one breath. He's so savage and unapologetic, I love him.

i like that We Wuxian never has some big epiphany moment about being in love with Lan Wangji. even though he’s in complete denial pre-death, that’s also partly because he always feels like Lan Wangji doesn’t actually like him a whole lot and because there are more pressing matters to worry about. but post-resurrection, his feelings develop slowly and he just kinda quietly accepts them at face value. (except for occasionally wondering if being ritually summoned into a gay man’s body is what made him gay, which is hilarious.)
but at the same time, he starts getting increasingly concerned about getting Lan Wangji dirty, in the literal sense of getting blood and dirt on his clothing, which is clearly a projection of his worry that being associated with him in any intimate sense will taint Lan Wangji’s reputation and somehow hurt him spiritually/mentally/emotionally as well. he projects so much disgust and shame onto Lan Wangji, it’s kinda painful. and at the same time and for the same reasons, he keeps almost willfully misinterpreting every intentional or unintentional display of affection that Lan Wangji demonstrates bc we accept the love we think we deserve etc.
so he goes from like “i am totally straight tralala! and i’m gonna try my hardest to embarrass Lan Wangji in any conceivable way.” to “of course i’m gay for Lan Zhan, but he’s a god amongst men so how dare i even consider the possibility that he might feel the same way.” but that transition feels totally natural.
and then he prays to his ancestors like “yo, can you please help me snag this man? i wanna smash it so bad!” what a fucking mess.

When we're looking at why Wei Wuxian took so long to even consider that Lan Wangji might really like him, I think we should maybe place more weight on that time when they were trapped in a cave together at around age eighteen, and Lan Wangji told him his dad was dying and started to cry and Wei Wuxian was like SHIT and fidgeted awkwardly for a while like ahhhhh I hate when people cry especially men what do I do????
And then he tried to find something to say and Lan Wangji was like 'shut up' and he shut up, and Lan Wangji said 'you're a loathsome person' and he shut up so hard he left him alone for three entire days.
Like if I spent three days trapped in hell with someone, restraining myself from reaching out for human interaction because not subjecting them to my personality was literally the only thing I could do to help with their state of misery.
I would have a real hard time letting go of the understanding that the thing this person wanted from me was not to have to deal with me.

person who has only watched one anime: what i really love about dungeon meshi is how it subverts our expectations of a typical anime by not sexualising women and having a good plot!

Lwj: *softly* ouch…
Wwx: What happened?!
Lwj: Nothing. I just nicked my finger while cleaning Bichen.
Wwx: Aw, here. *kisses his finger*
Lwj: What’s that for?
Wwx: Shijie does that to me! It’s supposed to make you feel better!
—Later—
Lwj: Brother, may I ask you to please punch me in the mouth?
Lxc: … Brother???
Jwy: Can I volunteer?

I know we gush a lot about how romantic it is that LWJ is so die hard for WWX that he’s never so much as thought of romance before or since meeting WWX, but how insane must LWJ feel when he realizes that flirty bad boy rebel WWX is the same way. For him.

I hate the “open floor plan” that everyone is obsessed with in houses now. I want nooks and crannies and bizarre floor plans. I don’t need to be able to see what someone is doing on the other side of the house. I want places to hide and lurk and dwell in the shadows. I am the beast who awaits in the labyrinth

I think I completely forgot that cheating and love triangles as a trope exist because why was I so confused watching thai bls after binging all of mxtx’s works for the past few months. She really said y’all can have death or the entire world come between you but it sure as hell won’t be another man.

It's not a coincidence that the first mission Xie Lian goes on in the story and after ascending is the one with the obsessed woman chasing the god; this is a deliberate contrast to Hua Cheng. Both Xuan Ji and Hua Cheng love the god they chase after, and both of them devote both their lives and afterlives to this god.
MXTX uses Xuan Ji to show what this kind of obsession looks like when it's unhealthy, then introduces Hua Cheng's love as a more healthy version. While Xuan Ji wants to possess, Hua Cheng only wants to protect. Hua Cheng never demands, never kills humans or worshippers (only for revenge for his god or to protect him, never to punish him for lack of attention); he in fact sacrifices to ensure their survival. Instead of demanding his god look at him, he is content to hold his hand and lead him forward. Instead of destroying his god's shrines, he helps build them.
While Hua Cheng is definitely obsessed, his obsession is a shield, a flower, an umbrella. He does not exist to pull Xie Lian down or to own him or to destroy. He exists to love his god, a fervent, selfless love. A direct contrast to Xuan Ji's.

Hua Cheng would absolutely teach Xie Lian how to assume his form so that they could switch forms and mess with people. Xie Lian would have reservations about the idea at first but then insist on doing it anyway, and have more fun than Hua Cheng actually.
